Chloe Kim wins 8th X Games snowboard halfpipe title, breaks record
Chloe Kim won her seventh X Games Aspen women’s snowboard halfpipe title (and eighth title across all X Games sites), breaking her tie with Kelly Clark for the most in history.
Kim, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, scored 93.33 points in her first of two final runs. It included the first double cork in X Games women’s halfpipe history, and it held up as the best score through both rounds.
She also landed the same cab double cork 1080 in her second run — a victory lap with the win already assured — before falling on her next trick, getting up quickly and smiling as she rode to the bottom of the pipe.
“I am having so much fun,” Kim said on the broadcast. “I have to be honest, I was in a bit of a rut. I really did not enjoy snowboarding for a couple of years. I think this year I really wanted to change that and just do runs that felt good to me, do tricks that felt good to me. It kind of has been working out, no complaints.”
Fellow American Maddie Mastro took second with an 89.66-point run that included her signature double crippler (two backflips).
Kim is now one title shy of Shaun White’s overall record of eight X Games Aspen halfpipe golds. Kim has seven titles at the annual event in Aspen, plus one from an X Games competition in Oslo in 2016.
After repeating as Olympic gold medalist in 2022, Kim took one season off from competing.
She returned last season and became the first woman to land a 1260 in competition. Then last Saturday, she and Mastro became the first women to land a double cork at any competition in going one-two at the Laax Open in Switzerland.
In 2026, Kim can become the first snowboarder to win gold at three consecutive Olympics.

Also Saturday, Nick Goepper led a U.S. men’s ski halfpipe podium sweep with Alex Ferreira and Hunter Hess.
Goepper, a three-time Olympic slopestyle medalist, spent 10 months retired in 2023, then switched to halfpipe.
American Red Gerard repeated as X Games men’s snowboard slopestyle champion, adding to his 2018 Olympic gold medal.
Gerard’s winning run included a switch backside triple cork 1620 and a backside 1800, according to the broadcast.
Canadian Mark McMorris was second for his 24th career Winter X medal across all sites and 20th in Aspen, both outright records.

Chloe Kim, the 21-year-old snowboarding phenom, has once again proven why she is one of the best in the sport by winning her 8th X Games snowboard halfpipe title. Not only did she take home the gold medal, but she also broke the record for the most X Games snowboard halfpipe titles ever won by a female athlete.Kim’s incredible performance on the halfpipe left fans and competitors in awe as she effortlessly executed flawless tricks and spins, showcasing her incredible skill and talent. It’s great to watch one rider overcome adversity. It’s even better when two of them do so to land on the podium.
U.S. Snowboarding teammates Chloe Kim and Maddie Mastro both missed the podium at the U.S. Grand Prix’s halfpipe contest in December. Mastro was forced to withdraw from the contest after a hard landing led to an injury. Kim fell at the end of her run, which cost her the lead, and she finished in fourth.
Kim and Mastro regrouped to finish in first and second places, respectively, in Laax, Switzerland. They made some history along the way.
Both Kim and Mastro became the first women to land a double cork 1080 in a competition. Kim’s cab double helped her earn a 96.50 on her way to gold, and Mastro landed a frontside double to join Kim in the record books.
It was Kim’s fifth world cup win of her career, and her first win since the 2023 X Games, where she became the first woman to land a 1260 in a competition.
“I really wanted to show you guys my cab double, and I’m so happy I was able to put it down,” Kim said. “It’s rewarding to just ride for fun.”
It’s the first time American women have claimed the top two spots on a World Cup podium since the same duo did it in 2018 at the U.S. Grand Prix. For Mastro, it was a tremendous mental boost, following the slam at Copper Mountain.
“Having confidence in this half pipe, it’s a must. You have to be confident when you drop into this halfpipe. So it was good that I got to start to knock off that rust, per se, and build my confidence back up after that slam in Copper,” Mastro said to Snowboarder. “Then it just kind of just snowballed from there, and I was able to land on my feet in finals and ended up back on the podium, which was overall really great for my confidence.”

South Korean rider Choi Gaon finished in third place with a 93.25.
On the men’s side of things, Australian Scotty James took home a win thanks to a big second run. His cab triple cork 1440 helped set the tone, and he finished the run with a switch backside 1260 on his way to a score of 95.75.
Japan’s Ruka Hirano finished in second place with a 93.75, and Ayumu Hirano came in third with a score of 87.
“I knew I had to put my best foot forward and throw everything at these guys,” James said to Olympics.com. “I fortunately came away with the win.”

In the slopestyle contests, British phenom Mia Brookes won with an 84.86 in her first run that outlasted fellow heavy hitters Zoi Sadowski-Synnott and Kokomo Murase, who rounded out the podium with respective scores of 75.36 and 71.15.
It’s a big win for the youngster, who remains hot after dominating the podium in Big Air contests so far this year.
Red Gerard finished in second place on the men’s side, just barely getting nudged out of first place by Canadian Cameron Spalding with his score of 86.63. German Noah Vicktor’s score of 83.72 was enough to grab the final podium spot.

It was a historic women’s halfpipe competition at the Laax Open in Switzerland this weekend, and leading the charge were—unsurprisingly—two of the discipline’s longtime standard-bearers: Chloe Kim and Maddie Mastro.
Kim and Mastro may each be only 24 years old, but in the women’s halfpipe field, they’re seasoned vets. And they’ve both solidified their places in the sport’s legacy.
At 17, Kim became the youngest woman to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal at the Pyeongchang 2018 Games; at Beijing 2022, she became the first woman to win two gold medals in halfpipe. She was the first woman to land back-to-back 1080s in competition, and at X Games Aspen 2024, she became the first to land a 1260 in competition.
Mastro has made her own innovative contributions to the sport. She was the first to land the double crippler (a frontside double backflip with no spin) in competition.
And in the women’s halfpipe final at this weekend’s Laax Open, where Kim and Mastro earned gold and silver, respectively, they added more history to their résumés, becoming the first women to land a double cork 1080 in competition.
Kim’s switch frontside double 1080 came in her first run, which scored 96.50 and ultimately stood as the top score of the contest.
In her second run, Mastro landed the first frontside double 1080 in women’s competition as well as her double crippler, becoming the first woman to land two double inversions in one competition run.
Sixteen-year-old Gaon Choi of South Korea rounded out the women’s podium. Choi has cited Kim as her inspiration to begin snowboarding.
Japanese riders finished fourth through seventh—in order, Mitsuki Ono, who is currently ranked first in the world; Rise Kudo; Sena Tomita and Sara Shimizu. Spain’s Queralt Castellet finished in eighth.
As the road to Milano-Cortina 2026 gets underway, Mastro and Kim are ranked second and fourth in the world, respectively, earning valuable quota points for the U.S. as well as themselves.
Women’s halfpipe snowboarding has never been more exciting, and Kim and Mastro are setting the tone for the rest of the field. The two U.S. Snowboard Team members will carry their momentum into next week’s X Games Aspen.
Chloe Kim and Maddie Mastro have made history once again in the world of women’s halfpipe snowboarding at the Laax Open. Maddie Mastro, another rising star in the sport, also delivered a standout performance at the Laax Open. With her impressive amplitude and stylish grabs, she secured a podium finish and proved that she is a force to be reckoned with on the halfpipe.
