  • Bucks star Damian Lillard chooses the four greatest players in NBA history

When it comes to NBA greats, Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard has earned his place among the league’s elite, even without a championship ring. Known as one of the greatest players in Portland Trail Blazers history, Lillard’s opinion carries weight when discussing basketball’s legends.

In March 2022, Damian Lillard appeared on a stream for Shannon Sharpe’s YouTube channel, Club Shay Shay, where he revealed his Mount Rushmore of the greatest players in NBA history.

I’m going with Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and I’m gonna say Magic Johnson,” Lillard shared. However, the seven-time All-Star added that none of these legends was the player he most enjoyed watching on the court.

“I’m gonna say Kyrie Irving,” Lillard said. “I love the way he plays. I love how his game looks—his ball handling, but also just the way he moves and how he plays the game. He’s got the most beautiful game ever, just how it looks”.

For his first pick, Lillard chose Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards. “Anthony Edwards, I think everyone super high on him right now but I like him because his energy and his swag is authentic and he got the game to go with it,” he explained.

His second pick was Grizzlies leader Ja Morant, highlighting the star’s immense potential. “I am gonna go Ja Morant,” Lillard continued. “He got into some trouble and people kind of turned off to him but I know what I am looking at.

Rounding out the list, Lillard named Luka Doncic of the Mavericks, reigning MVP Nikola Jokic of the Nuggets, and his current Bucks teammate Giannis Antetokounmpo, without elaborating further on his choices.

    Damian Lillard’s individual achievements

Though Lillard has yet to win an NBA title, his accolades prove his status as one of the league’s best. Here’s a breakdown of his impressive resume:

    • 2013 NBA Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie First Team selection.

  • Legend Michael Nunn chooses best boxer of all time between Muhammad Ali and Floyd Mayweather

Michael Nunn, a former middleweight champion and one of the most skilled fighters of his generation, shared his thoughts on the age-old debate about the greatest boxer of all time. Despite acknowledging Floyd Mayweather Jr.‘s flawless 50-0 record and technical brilliance, Nunn placed the honor elsewhere.

In a 2023 interview with Vlad TV (via Essentially Sports), he explained why his admiration is firmly rooted in the past, with legends like Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson.I’m just a Muhammad Ali guy, and a Sugar Ray Robinson guy. Even a Sugar [Ray] Leonard guy,” Nunn said.

However, Nunn said that Mayweather is a “great fighter” and acknowledged his 50-0 record as “a crown achievement moment,” while expanding more on their relationship. “I say Floyd is my dear friend. I’m not saying anything against him,” he said.

“Because he thinks I’m one of the best fighters, well, I’m one of his favorite fighters, and he’s definitely one of my favorite fighters, you know,” Nunn added, underscoring the camaraderie between the two boxing greats.

Nunn himself knows greatness firsthand. Known as “Second to Nunn,” the former champion was renowned for his speed, skill, and southpaw style. During his prime in the late 1980s and early 1990s, he captured titles in multiple weight classes and defeated top contenders. However, his career ended when he was sentenced to 24 years in prison for drug trafficking in 2004, being released in 2019.

The greatest boxer of all time: More than boxing?

When it comes to determining who is the “greatest boxer of all time”, there’s always other factors that are taken into account, apart from numbers: legacy, impact, technique and more. In that sense, Ali’s legacy went more beyond impressive bouts.

Ali was not just a boxer but a cultural icon, also known for his activism and defense of civil rights, inspiring millions around the world and leaving an indelible mark on history.

Michael Nunn, a boxing legend in his own right, recently weighed in on the age-old debate of who is the best boxer of all time: Muhammad Ali or Floyd Mayweather. Nunn, who held world titles in multiple weight classes during his career, had high praise for both fighters but ultimately chose one as the greatest of all time.

In an interview with ESPN, Nunn explained his reasoning for selecting Muhammad Ali as the best boxer of all time. “Ali’s impact on the sport of boxing and on society as a whole cannot be understated,” Nunn stated. “His charisma, his skill, and his ability to transcend the sport make him a true legend in every sense of the word.”

Nunn also acknowledged Mayweather’s incredible skill and undefeated record but ultimately felt that Ali’s influence and legacy set him apart. “Mayweather is undoubtedly one of the best defensive fighters of all time, but Ali’s impact goes beyond his in-ring accomplishments,” Nunn added.

While the debate between Ali and Mayweather will likely continue for years to come, it’s clear that Michael Nunn holds Ali in the highest regard as the best boxer of all time.

  • Former Five-Star Receiver Johntay Cook II Chooses Washington over Florida Gators

Former Five-Star Receiver Johntay Cook II Chooses Washington over Florida Gators

Former Texas Longhorns receiver Johntay Cook II, a prominent target in the transfer portal for Florida, on Saturday pledged his services to Washington, choosing the Huskies over the Gators.

A former five-star in the 2023 recruiting class, Cook II will have two years of eligibility remaining. He appeared in 20 games with the Longhorns, recording 16 receptions for 273 yards and two touchdowns in that time.

Cook II’s commitment to Washington comes after a recent crystal ball from 247 Sports national recruiting analyst Mike Roach for Cook II to land at Washington. He visited with the Huskies prior to announcing his commitment.

He also recently visited Florida from Dec. 21 until Dec. 22. After his visit, On3’s Pete Nakos predicted Cook II would commit to the Gators. However, it seems in recent days that the Gators had begun to distance themselves from Cook II due to an already-full receiver room.

Despite Cook II heading to Washington, the Gators have still managed to put together one of the nation’s best receiver class in this recruiting cycle.

The Gators signed a four-man high school receiver class made up of five-star Dallas Wilson, five-star Vernell Brown III, four-star Naeshaun Montgomery and three-star Muizz Tounkara while also adding former UCLA starter J. Michael Sturdivant via the transfer portal.

Both Wilson and Brown III are ranked inside the top-10 of On3’s industry rankings, and its the first time Florida has signed two composite five-star receivers in the same class since 2003.

The Gators are also set to return receivers Eugene Wilson III, Aidan Mizell, Kahleil Jackson, Tank Hawkins and TJ Abrams next season.

Since the portal opened, the Gators have added four total transfers to its time while losing 19 total players, 13 of which are on scholarship. Gators Illustrated is keeping track of all of Florida’s transfer portal moves here and is keeping count of the Gators’ roster count here.

Former five-star receiver Johntay Cook II has made his decision, choosing to commit to the University of Washington over the Florida Gators.

Cook, who was highly sought after by top college football programs across the country, ultimately felt that Washington was the best fit for him both academically and athletically.

“I am excited to announce that I will be continuing my football career at the University of Washington,” Cook said in a statement. “I believe that the coaching staff, the facilities, and the overall atmosphere at Washington will help me reach my full potential as a player.”

The 6-foot-4 receiver is expected to make an immediate impact for the Huskies, who are looking to bolster their receiving corps for the upcoming season. With his size, speed, and excellent route-running ability, Cook is sure to be a key player for Washington in the years to come.

Despite interest from other top programs, Cook ultimately felt that Washington was the best place for him to continue his football career and pursue his academic goals. Gators fans may be disappointed to miss out on his talent, but Huskies fans are surely thrilled to welcome him to their program.
