Here’s an awesome life-imitates-art story from the press tour for ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ – Chris Evans was actually the one to inform Anthony Mackie that Steve Rogers would be passing the shield off to Sam Wilson at the end of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, making him the new Captain America in the MCU.
Mackie says it happened at Evans’ house in Atlanta one night before shooting, when Evans asked him if he had read the latest ‘Endgame’ script. He said he hadn’t, and when Evans insisted he come down to his man-cave to check out the final ten pages immediately, Mackie assumed that his character had been killed off. He thought Evans just wanted to see his reaction to reading that like a buddy who gets a kick out of watching you get rejected at a bar or something. When he got to the moment in the screenplay where Rogers hands him the shield, though, and Evans confirmed what that meant – they “jumped around in circles” like little kids celebrating together.
Say what you will about how Sam Wilson (and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole) has been handled post-‘Endgame’, but that moment in the movie was an awesome passing of the torch and the fact that it actually happened like that in real life is incredible to me. Plus, Mackie has always come off as such a likable dude – whether it’s celebrating the Golden Globes win of his pal Sebastian Stan recently, taunting Tom Holland at Comic Cons and press events over the years, or even chopping it up on KFC Radio….

Marvel could really use a smash hit to open up 2025 and they’ll definitely need Sam Wilson’s Cap to hit with audiences before he steps up into what I’m assuming is a major role in the next two ‘Avengers’ movies. I know there’s been tons of test screenings and reshoots that have everybody panicked right now, but as I blogged yesterday, not all reshoots mean trouble….
I honestly like what I’ve seen from the trailers so far, with ‘Brave New World’ obviously trying to evoke the same espionage-feel ‘The Winter Soldier’ did….
We’ve got Harrison Ford playing the President of the United States (who is also a Red Hulk) again with Isiah Bradley trying to assassinate him (possibly under mind control), Giancarlo Esposito making his MCU debut, Tim Blake Nelson returning to the MCU to play a classic Marvel character in The Leader, that big ass Celestial in the ocean will finally be addressed….

At the end of another fantasy basketball week, let’s go over some possible drop candidates.
These players were all taken from the most dropped waiver trends section, which can be found on any FantasySP fantasy basketball page. Here was the first drop story from the week.

Williams was dropped in 4.7% of leagues, bringing his total mark down to 25%.
He’s coming off a four-point game, which is a pretty good guess as to why he’s being dropped in fantasy leagues. Williams had four rebounds and two steals in that game, and 21 minutes played.
In 29 games and 14 starts this season, Williams is averaging 9.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1 steal and 0.3 blocks across 22.6 minutes. Since returning from a lengthy absence, Williams is averaging 11.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.4 blocks across 24.7 minutes across eight games and seven starts.
So while he’s coming off a tough fantasy performance, Williams’ numbers of late are actually better than his season averages. I think he’s doing enough to keep rostering him in the league he’s already owned in.
If Williams has a nice showing in his next game, his own percentage will rise again. Instead of adding and dropping players consistently, try to lock down some permanent fantasy building blocks. Based on his numbers of late, I’d keep holding Williams – if he continues to struggle, then you can drop him.
Fantasy Outlook
Boucher is down 4.1% and now rostered in just 23% of leagues.
Boucher is coming off a poor performance himself, so a lot of what I just wrote for Williams is probably going to apply here. They are even owned in a similar amount of leagues.
Boucher had five points and nine rebounds across 17 minutes in his last game – that’s not even bad fantasy production. For the season, he’s averaging 10.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 0.6 steals and blocks across 17.6 minutes in 36 games played (all off the bench).
Even if you include a pair of single-digit scoring performances, Boucher is averaging 14 points, 6.2 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 0.4 steals and blocks across 17.8 minutes over the past five games.
So I again think it’s premature to drop Boucher. He’s producing plenty of late, and will probably get scooped up if you let him go. The only way I’m dropping guys like Williams or Boucher is if there’s a can’t-miss player on the waiver wire, and those aren’t that common.
Just hold on to Boucher for a bit longer, because he could be a nice fantasy asset for those of you in deeper leagues.

Yabusele was dropped in 4% of leagues and sits at 35% overall now.
Yabusele has played a bigger role than expected this season as the 76ers deal with a number of injuries. He’s averaging 34.9 minutes over the past six games, just to give an example.
For the season, Yabusele has averaged 10.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.4 blocks across 25.8 minutes in 39 games played and 18 starts.
While he’s failed to score in double figures five times over the past 13 games, and in three of the past four, Yabusele is also averaging 12 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.5 blocks across 30.7 minutes in those 13 games.
He’s not a very consistent fantasy performer, but he’s doing enough most nights to be a fantasy asset to those of you in deeper leagues. I understand and don’t mind fantasy owners dropping him after some lower-scoring games, but I wouldn’t think his own percentage should fall too much more.
He’s still playing a bunch of minutes, and until the Sixers are healthier consistently, Yabusele should retain his big role. If Yabusele doesn’t make sense to roster in a deeper league right now, at least throw him on your watch list in case he heats up as a scorer again.
I think Yabusele will remain pretty involved all season, and there’s always the chance a trade, with him or one of his teammates, opens up more opportunities at some point. Don’t write Yabusele off after just a few lower-scoring games.
Fantasy Outlook
Capela saw his own percentage fall 3.4%, making his total 78%.
Capela is an interesting fantasy asset. He averages 9.5 points, 9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.6 steals and 1 block, but also only plays 22.8 minutes a game. Capela has been durable, starting all 40 of the team’s games so far. He also shoots a high percentage (57.2% overall).
On points and rebounds alone, Capela is a pretty solid fantasy asset. Sure, we’d love for him to play more minutes, but as is, Capela is scoring a healthy amount of fantasy points every night.
I’m a bit surprised to see his own percentage falling, because his production has been better of late. Capela is averaging 10.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.5 steals and 1.8 blocks across 23 minutes in the past four games.
Maybe he’s just being dropped with so many good waiver wire options appearing over the past week. Whatever the case, I expect Capela’s own percentage to hover between 75-85% most of the season.
He’s a nice fill-in option if one of your big men goes down with a multi-week injury. Capela also is a pretty solid option in category-based leagues because of his rebounding numbers.
Capela’s fantasy ceiling is probably pretty close to his season averages. Sure, there will be nights where he outperforms the averages by a good bit, but with just two games over 20 points and with 15 or more rebounds on the season, he’s more a consistent player than a streaky one.
Assess your fantasy team thoroughly and then determine whether Capela would help your team out in the long run.

Krejci was let go in 3.3% of leagues and now is rostered in 13% overall.
Krejci is another case in which I do not understand why fantasy owners are dropping him. He’s scored in double figures in four straight games, and also has 15 rebounds, 18 assists, four steals and two blocks combined in those contests.
On the season, Krejci is averaging 5.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and assists, 0.6 steals and 0.4 blocks across 17.4 minutes in 25 games and eight starts. Atlanta has been missing some key rotation players of late, but until those players actually get back in the lineup, Krejci is worth rostering in quite a few deeper leagues.
Also, with the way he’s been playing of late, there’s a chance Krejci sticks in the rotation even when the team is at full health. If Krejci goes back to a reserve role and is producing closer to his season averages, then he can be dropped, but until that actually happens, I’d just ride the hot streak he is on.

Chris Wright, President-elect Donald J. Trump’s pick for energy secretary, tried to reassure Democrats at his confirmation hearing on Wednesday that he believed climate change was a “global challenge that we need to solve” and that he would support the development of all forms of energy, including wind and solar power.
The founder and chief executive of Liberty Energy, a fracking firm, Mr. Wright has been a longtime evangelist for fossil fuels like oil and gas. He has frequently shrugged off the risks of global warming, saying in 2023, “There is no climate crisis, and we’re not in the midst of an energy transition, either.” He has also criticized renewable energy sources like wind and solar power, calling them “unreliable and costly.”
Appearing before the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, however, Mr. Wright struck a more diplomatic tone. In his opening statement, he said his top priority was to “unleash” domestic energy production, including liquefied natural gas and nuclear power. Yet under questioning from Senate Democrats, he suggested that he agreed with many of their priorities as well.
At one point, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Democrat of Nevada, told Mr. Wright that “the conversation around energy should be balanced and not just focused on fossil fuels.”
“I agree entirely,” Mr. Wright replied, going on to talk about the importance of less-polluting sources of energy like nuclear, geothermal, hydropower, wind and solar power.
The greenhouse gases from burning oil, gas and coal are the main driver of global warming, which made last year the hottest in recorded history.
In one tense exchange, Senator Alex Padilla, Democrat of California, brought up this month’s catastrophic wildfires in Los Angeles. He noted that Mr. Wright had once written in a social media post, “The hype over wildfires is just hype to justify more impoverishment from bad government policies.”
“Do you still believe that wildfires are just hype?” Mr. Padilla asked angrily.
Mr. Wright said that “climate change is a real and global phenomenon” but did not disavow his past writing. Later, however, he clarified that the Energy Department had an important role to play in tackling global warming.
“Do I wish we could make faster progress? Absolutely,” he said. “Are there things we can do, investments together, through the Department of Energy, to accelerate development of new energy technologies that are really the only pathway to address climate change? Absolutely.”
Yet Mr. Wright also promised to enthusiastically support Mr. Trumps’s energy plans, saying, “I will work tirelessly to pursue his bold agenda.”
Mr. Trump, who has repeatedly called global warming a “hoax,” wants to dismantle existing U.S. policies to reduce emissions and has promised to “drill, baby, drill.”
If confirmed, Mr. Wright would run the Energy Department, which plays a central role in developing new energy technologies. The agency oversees a network of 17 national laboratories that conduct cutting-edge research as well as a $400 billion lending program that under President Biden backed dozens of projects, including battery factories in Ohio and Tennessee and a novel rooftop solar expansion in Puerto Rico.
Mr. Wright would also imanage approvals of liquefied gas export terminals, which the Biden administration has tried to slow, angering industry groups.
Managing an agency so sprawling can be challenging. About 80 percent of the Energy Department’s $52 billion annual budget goes toward maintaining the nation’s nuclear arsenal, cleaning up environmental messes from the Cold War and conducting research in areas like high-energy physics.
At his hearing, Mr. Wright declined to go into details about how he would run the department, seeming to signal to Republican and Democrats alike that he was on their side.
Senator Mike Lee, Republican of Utah, raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest at the agency’s Loan Programs Office, the $400 billion lending program that has been an engine of Mr. Biden’s clean energy agenda. The senator asked Mr. Wright to freeze new loan activity on Day 1. Mr. Wright declined to promise that and merely said he would “immediately engage” with the concerns.
Democrats asked Mr. Wright about proposals by conservative groups to dismantle the agency office that works to expand high-voltage power lines across the country. Those lines can greatly benefit wind and solar power, though experts say they are also critical for avoiding blackouts and keeping electricity prices low.
Mr. Wright sidestepped the question but said that building new transmission lines was “very important.”
When asked by Democrats if he would try to rescind spending for clean-energy programs funded by laws passed under the Biden administration — as many of Mr. Trump’s allies have urged — Mr. Wright said that he would follow the law, but he did not elaborate.
On podcasts and in speeches, Mr. Wright frequently makes a moral case for fossil fuels, arguing that the world’s poorest people need oil and gas to realize the benefits of modern life. Researchers have accused him of downplaying the risks of a warming planet: He said on a podcast last year that climate change would have “a slow-moving, modest impact two or three generations from now.”
Mr. Wright graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and did graduate work on solar energy at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1992, he founded Pinnacle Technologies, which created software to measure the motion of fluid beneath the Earth’s surface. The software, which Mr. Wright has called “super nerdy,” helped bring about a commercial shale-gas revolution.
Mr. Wright started Liberty Energy in 2011, and the company has worked with others on geothermal energy and small, modular nuclear reactors.
Mr. Wright holds 2.6 million shares in the company, which are worth more than $55 million based on the current stock price. He has said he intends to step down from Liberty Energy and divest his holdings if confirmed.
While the hearing at several points was interrupted by protesters, who accused Mr. Wright of ignoring climate change while Los Angeles burned, the exchanges were mostly devoid of drama. Republicans, who have a 53-47 majority in the Senate and are confident they can confirm Mr. Wright, praised the nominee’s experience in the energy sector. But even many Democrats seemed to find him acceptable.
At the start, Senator John Hickenlooper, Democrat of Colorado, introduced Mr. Wright, saying the two men had been friendly for years despite often disagreeing on issues like global warming.
“Some people would be surprised that I’m introducing him here,” said Mr. Hickenlooper. “He is indeed an unrestrained enthusiast for fossil fuels in almost every regard.” But, he added, Mr. Wright was “also a scientist who is open to discussion.”
