Alarm Bells at Lazio as Mattia Zaccagni Could Miss Cagliari Clash
Lazio captain Mattia Zaccagni could skip Monday’s Serie A contest against Cagliari due to a bout with flu.
The Background
The Biancocelesti are preparing to take the flight to Sardinia where they’ll take on Davide Nicola’s men on the closing curtain of Round 23. However, they might be forced to leave their skipper behind in Rome.
Lazio Could Be Without Mattia Zaccagni
The 29-year-old had already missed Thursday’s Europa League fixture against Braga as he was serving a suspension. But while that ban gave the winger some timely rest, Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) reveals he hasn’t trained since falling ill on Friday. The source expects the final decision to be made just hours before the team flies to Cagliari.
Zaccagni’s Numbers this Season
Zaccagni’s absence would be a significant blow for Marco Baroni, as he remains one of his most consistent performers and arguably the team’s most vital player in the final third. The Cesena native has contributed with eight goals and five assists his his 27 appearances across all competitions this season.
The Alternatives
So if the Italy international fails to make it, the Aquile will reportedly turn to either Pedro or Tijjani Noslin for the left-wing role. The attacking band should be led by Taty Castellanos, with Boulaye Dia behind him and Gustav Isaksen on the right wing.
Lazio fans are sounding the alarm bells as midfielder Mattia Zaccagni could miss the upcoming clash against Cagliari. The Italian international has been a key player for the team this season, and his absence could be a major blow for the squad.Zaccagni has been dealing with a nagging injury in recent weeks, and it appears that he may not be fit in time for the crucial match against Cagliari. His absence would leave a significant gap in the midfield, as he has been instrumental in Lazio’s attacking play and defensive solidity.
Fans are hoping that Zaccagni will be able to recover in time for the match, but there is growing concern that he may not be ready to take the field. His absence would be a big loss for Lazio, who are looking to secure a top-four finish in Serie A this season.
The team will need to find a way to cope without Zaccagni if he is unable to play, and they will be hoping that other players can step up in his absence. The clash against Cagliari is a crucial one for Lazio, and they will need to be at their best if they are to come away with a positive result.
Stay tuned for updates on Zaccagni’s status ahead of the match, as Lazio fans hold their breath and hope for good news.

Why Jim Knowles walked: Philosophical clash at Ohio State leads to fresh start, historic payday at Penn State
Jim Knowles’ defense is not static and is certainly malleable to suggestions, but even a veteran coach has a breaking point with directives.
The coordinator reached his limit after three years at Ohio State, where he successfully revamped and revitalized a struggling unit into a championship caliber group in short order — but not without interference and pressures from head coach Ryan Day, who inserted himself in defensive meetings more often this season and asked for changes to be made midway through the season, sources told CBS Sports. Last week, their short marriage ended with Knowles bolting for rival Penn State. A bigger payday and more autonomy to run his scheme awaits him in State College, where he will be introduced Tuesday in a press conference.
Chip Kelly leaves Ohio State for Raiders: Buckeyes facing significant staff overhaul after national title win
Will Backus
The departure was not a surprise for Ohio State staffers. Knowles also fielded discussions with Oklahoma and Notre Dame, and rumors of a departure for the Sooners hit a fever pitch as the Buckeyes prepared for the national championship game against the Irish. It never distracted Ohio State, particularly because Knowles, lovingly referred to as a hermit with a coach’s whistle, never relented from his habits: locking himself in his office, studying opponents’ film and developing concise game plans before emerging from behind closed doors with a plan that always seemed to wow his players.
“I always called him Batman,” Buckeyes defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau said before Ohio State’s win against the Irish in the national championship. “He is in his cave, and he comes out and you never know what he has in store, but you’ve got to get to know him. Once you get to know him, that’s one guy you’ll have on your side. To be able to play for him as a DC, it’s a blessing.”
The Buckeyes won the national championship and Knowles polished the “Silver Bullets” into the nation’s best defense (12.9 points per game), but did so rebuilding the unit over three years with the understanding that mixing his three-man front schemes would never be a hallmark in Columbus, sources told CBS Sports. The crux was longtime defensive line coach Larry Johnson, whose four-man front philosophies are ingrained in the Buckeyes’ culture. It was Knowles, not the Buckeyes, who had to adjust philosophically. That didn’t necessarily eliminate Knowles’ three-man looks and mixing coverages, but his love of utilizing a “Jack” hybrid on and off the line was never the touchstone it was previously at Oklahoma State and Duke.
Meanwhile, Day’s appearances in the defensive meeting room increased after the Buckeyes’ 32-31 loss at Oregon in Week 7. They allowed nearly 500 yards of offense, including 341 yards passing, as superstars like cornerback Denzel Burke struggled in coverage.
It’s not unusual for a head coach to take an added interest in a particular unit after a loss, but what made this development more personal and political was Day’s background as an offensive coordinator. As Day left mentor Chip Kelly on his own to develop game plans and call games, it was the veteran defensive coordinator who instead had to deal with his boss breathing down his neck.
That didn’t mix well with Knowles’ lone ranger attitude. The Cornell graduate, who also got his coaching start in the Ivy League, is not your typical play-caller. He enjoys cigars and sushi, and is quite the reflective intellectual.
“He’s smart, and he just so happens to like football,” an Ohio State source said. “He’s a guy you could see being a curator of art or maybe a professor discussing World War II history.”
Still, Knowles and Day worked well together. The defense allowed only 9.7 points per game for the remainder of the regular season, including the 13-10 loss to Michigan in the finale, before the offense exploded in the playoffs with double-digit wins in all four rounds, including the 34-23 capper against Notre Dame for the national title.
“When he was at Oklahoma State, they didn’t have four down D-linemen, and then certainly no depth behind it,” Day said of Knowles in late October. “So, he had to be creative about what he was doing there. Decision was made a long time ago that we have the D-linemen here at Ohio State that can play with four down linemen.”
Shortly after the national championship game on Jan. 20, Knowles, 59, began fielding phone calls from suitors, sources told CBS Sports. The flirtations led to counter offers from Ohio State, and though their pitches were in the same pay-day ranges discussed with Oklahoma and Penn State, there was a caveat: if you don’t commit now to the Buckeyes, you will be barred from the team’s championship celebration inside Ohio Stadium on Jan. 26. At that point, negotiations broke down and Knowles, who already had one foot out the door, made up his mind, and subsequently agreed to join Penn State. Not long after Day told 30,000 fans celebrating inside Ohio Stadium that Knowles was “the defensive coordinator of the best defense in the country,” the play-caller wrapped up a deal with the Nittany Lions. Penn State announced Knowles as DC less than 24 hours later.
Penn State poaching Jim Knowles sends clear message: James Franklin, Nittany Lions ready to take next step

Interestingly, Knowles leaves Ohio State for a similar ready-made situation to win a title that he had with the Buckeyes a year ago. It was in late January 2024, shortly after Ross Bjork was hired as Ohio State’s athletics director, that the school committed to go full speed with a $20 million NIL treasure chest, and attacked the transfer portal with relentlessness, effectively transforming a championship-worthy roster into unquestionably the most talented team in the sport.
MORE: What Bucknuts247 heard about Knowles’ departure from Ohio State
Penn State has money to spend, and isn’t afraid to show it. They made Knowles the highest-paid assistant coach in college football with a deal averaging $3.1 million, with a bonus structure that could push that annual total over $4 million, according to CBS Sports sources. Head coach James Franklin has received three contract extensions and raises since last winning a Big Ten title in 2016, and is paid an average of $8.5 million annually, according to a 10-year deal he signed in November 2021.
Penn State’s total revenue jumped nearly $18 million to a record $220.8 million in its most recent annual fiscal report released last month. Where that stands nationally is not entirely clear as the NCAA releases financial reports this month, but it’s behind goliaths Texas ($331.9 million) and Ohio State ($254.9 million), according to documents obtained by USA TODAY last week. Penn State has usually ranked third in the Big Ten in operating revenue behind the Buckeyes and Michigan.
How Penn State plans to attack the spring portal window remains to be seen, but it stands to return one of the nation’s more talented rosters. The Nittany Lions lose future first-round pass rusher Abdul Carter but returns a plethora of stars, including Dani Dennis-Sutton, who accounted for 8.5 sacks last season. The offense is loaded, again, with running backs Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton returning, too.
Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles hopes to light victory cigar, add CFP title to lengthy resume
Brandon Marcello
Meanwhile, Ohio State loses eight starters on defense, including its entire defensive front, led by Ohio State legend Jack Sawyer, whose fumble return against Texas in the CFP semifinals will forever be remembered as the biggest play of the Buckeyes’ title run.
Also tugging at Knowles? Returning home for the first time in his 37-year coaching career. “Penn State was everything. It was everything. That’s what we aspired to be and I couldn’t get there as a player, but through a lot of work, a lot of time, a lot of really good players, that allowed me to reach that point in my career where I could really pick wherever I wanted to be,” Knowles told Penn State players during a team meeting last week.
Knowles grew up in north Philadelphia, the son of a police officer, which he often refers to as the framework for his coaching style. “Raised by a Philly cop,” he said two days before the national championship. “So there’s an intensity that goes with that.”
Dennis Dodd contributed to this report
After a successful tenure as the defensive coordinator at Ohio State, Jim Knowles shocked the college football world by announcing his departure for Penn State. Many fans and analysts were left scratching their heads, wondering why Knowles would leave a top program like Ohio State for a conference rival like Penn State. The answer, it seems, lies in a philosophical clash at Ohio State that ultimately led Knowles to seek a fresh start and a historic payday at Penn State. Knowles, known for his aggressive and attacking defensive schemes, reportedly clashed with Ohio State head coach Ryan Day over the direction of the defense. Day, a more conservative coach, reportedly wanted a more traditional and conservative defensive approach, while Knowles wanted to continue his aggressive style.
Ultimately, the two could not see eye to eye, leading Knowles to make the difficult decision to leave Ohio State and seek a new opportunity at Penn State. The move was not only a chance for Knowles to start fresh and implement his preferred defensive schemes, but also a chance to make history with a historic payday at Penn State.
Knowles’ decision to walk away from a top program like Ohio State may have been surprising to many, but for Knowles, it was a necessary step to stay true to his coaching philosophy and continue to grow as a coach. And with a new challenge and a historic payday awaiting him at Penn State, Knowles is ready to make his mark on the college football landscape once again.

It was not the best of nights for Los Angeles Lakers veteran star LeBron James and his team faced a devastating 118-104 loss against the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday. Anthony Davis had to depart from the game following his injury during the game which left the Lakers short-handed to defend their game against the Sixers. However, James shared a special moment with Allen Iverson’s mother, Ann Iverson.
Certainly, it was a special moment for NBA fans as James shared his heartfelt gratitude for the mother of the former basketball star who was also dubbed The Answer. James stepped out of the visitors’ locker room at Wells Fargo Center with a smile on his face. Before leaving, he took a moment to greet Iverson’s mother, Ann. The two shared a warm embrace and exchanged a few words. It was a touching courtside moment.
Ann came prepared to meet James, bringing a few photos for him to sign. The Lakers star nodded to her request. As he signed, James mentioned that his son, Bronny James, had just left. Ann smiled, saying she would have asked the rookie for an autograph too. After ensuring the ink was dry, LeBron carefully placed the photos in an envelope. The two shared another warm hug before posing for pictures. Before parting ways, Ann told King James that she was proud of him, capping off a heartfelt exchange.
While the moment was beautiful, he and his team failed to secure the victory against the Sixers. As Davis was missing from action after about 10 minutes of play, James shared that it was tough to lead the team without the 31-year-old center/forward. “When our best player goes out, it’s always challenging,” James said during the post-match conversation with the reporters.
“If he’s out from the beginning, then we have a game plan set. We know what to expect [and] we know what our lineups gonna be. I didn’t realize until the second quarter when he didn’t come back in his regular minutes,” he continued. When speaking of the injury concern for Davis, he added, “Level of concern? He’ll be fine.”
James added 31 points in the game where his son Bronny James also had the chance to play alongside his father. Bronny was, however, surprised to get the call to appear in the game, “I knew beforehand that I was coming in (and) getting some minutes, but I didn’t know before I got the call to come. It just came out of nowhere,” he shared adding, “…(I’m) just always trying to stay ready to play and always keep my mind right.”

#LeBron #James #shares #special #courtside #moment #Allen #Iversons #mother #Ann #LakersSixers #clash #NBA #NewsDesperation a factor on both sides as Mountaineers set for clash with Bearcats
CINCINNATI — West Virginia put itself in good position to earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament by winning 13 of its first 17 games, including four victories over ranked foes, three of which were in the top 10 at the time.
For that to still be the case in the near future, the Mountaineers need to put an end to a losing streak that’s stretched three games over the last two weeks.
The first opportunity comes at 2 p.m. Sunday in a matchup with Cincinnati at Fifth Third Arena that will be carried by ESPN+.
“It’s a long season and it’s a grind. We still have 11 games left, so there are lots of opportunities to go win games,” first-year WVU head coach Darian DeVries said. “They’ve put themselves in a good position to survive a stretch like this where you go through a three-game losing streak, but at some point you have to put the brakes on and we have to get back on the other side of that column. Every night, there’s an opportunity going forward where it’s a Quad 1, Quad 2-type gam, and we have to win our share of those.”
During the skid, which began with a home loss to Arizona State, continued with a setback at Kansas State and most recently included another home loss to No. 6 Houston, WVU has struggled defensively and suffered through three of its five lowest-scoring games this season.
The Mountaineers (13-7, 4-5) have fallen to 15th in scoring among Big 12 Conference teams at 70.1 points on average — one spot behind the Bearcats and their average of 71. In Big 12 play, WVU remains 15th with an average of 61 points, while UC falls to last in the league with a mark of 60.7.
West Virginia guard Javon Small remains the Big 12’s leading scorer with an average of 19.1 points, though he’s been held in check twice during the skid, totaling 22 points in the losses to the Sun Devils and Cougars. Small is consistently draw the bulk of attention from opposing defenses that often includes sending double teams his way in an effort to make another Mountaineer beat them.
“We did a lot of stuff tonight with Javon off the ball to try and get it back to him and get him on the move a little bit more,” DeVries said of his season-low eight-point effort against Houston, which came on only seven field-goal attempts. “Houston is a good defense and they’re able to show another guy out or switch it to keep him from coming off clean. But we did get those switches, because he was going to come off clean or get an open three and that gave us some advantages on the interior. Something to build on for us as we continue to try to find different ways to utilize all the guys that are out there.”
After trailing the Cougars 39-19 at halftime, West Virginia scored the first 11 points of the second half and was within five with more than 6 minutes remaining, before falling short down the stretch.
Still, DeVries liked much of what his team displayed over the final 20 minutes in a matchup against one of the nation’s top teams, which included disruptive defense that helped create transition offense and led to 12-for-21 shooting.
“I told them to leave this building tonight only focused on what it looked and it felt like in the second half,” DeVries said. “Make that their mindset again and approach as we go into practice and get ready for Cincinnati. That team in that 15-minute stretch, we’ll take anywhere, because they’ll go compete and line up and go do some things that can be pretty special.”
For as much as the Mountaineers are in need of a win, Cincinnati (12-8, 2-7) could be even more desperate after following up two Big 12 victories with three straight losses, including setbacks at BYU and Utah over the last week.
The Bearcats began their second season in the Big 12 with a No. 20 national ranking, but have struggled mightily since completing their non-conference schedule with 10 wins in 11 games.

Huntsman Center. Mandatory Credit: Rob Gray-Imagn Images Four players average double-figure scoring for UC, though the Bearcats do not have a player among the top 25 scoring leaders in the Big 12.
Simas Lukosius leads the squad with an average of 12.2 points. He does a large portion of his damage from the perimeter and 47 of his 85 field goals are three-pointers.
Guard Jizzle James and swingman Dan Skillings Jr. follow at 10.8 points, while Texas transfer Dillon Mitchell averages 10.6 points and provides defensive versatility with his abundance of athleticism.
With the exception of Lukosius, UC has struggled shooting from long range and its 31.7 percent shooting on triples is ahead of only TCU in the Big 12. Excluding Lukosius, the Bearcats are shooting 29.6 percent on threes.
UC has won 12 of 23 all-time meetings against the Mountaineers, including six of eight in Cincinnati and four or five at Fifth Third Arena.
The upcoming showdown between the Mountaineers and Bearcats is shaping up to be a must-watch game, with desperation playing a key factor for both teams. On one side, the Mountaineers are coming off a tough loss and are hungry for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. They know that a victory over the Bearcats could be the spark they need to turn their season around and make a push for the top spot in their conference.
Meanwhile, the Bearcats are also feeling the pressure as they look to maintain their undefeated record and solidify their spot as a top contender in the conference. They know that a loss to the Mountaineers could derail their championship aspirations and put a dent in their playoff hopes.
With both teams feeling the weight of desperation, this matchup is sure to be intense and hard-fought. Fans can expect to see a battle of wills as these two teams leave it all on the field in pursuit of victory.
Be sure to tune in to see which team will come out on top in this clash of the titans.

Gonzaga’s Ryan Nembhard, Saint Mary’s Augustas Marciulionis a clash of styles
MORAGA, Calif. – It’s more like key matchups rather than one key matchup when it comes to Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s.
It doesn’t get much better than posts Gonzaga’s Graham Ike and Mitchell Saxen dishing out bruises. Or GU’s Ben Gregg facing Arizona transfer Paulius Murauskas, who has nine double-doubles.
Perhaps not at the forefront but just as important: Nolan Hickman, hot lately from behind the 3-point line, matching up against sophomore Jordan Ross, who supplies Saint Mary’s with several of the same things Hickman does for the Zags.
All worthy candidates, but the nod here goes to the two best point guards in the West Coast Conference: Gonzaga assists machine Ryan Nembhard and Saint Mary’s counterpart Augustas Marciulionis, the reigning WCC Player of the Year and conference tournament most outstanding player.
The two standouts go about it in different ways. The 6-foot, 180-pound Nembhard directs one of the top offenses in the country, excelling in transition and the half-court.
Nembhard, at his nation-leading rate of 9.9 assists per game, would break the school’s single-season record he set last year (243) in three games. The Ontario native, who played two seasons at Creighton before transferring to Gonzaga, is No. 1 in NCAA Division I career assists by a Canadian with 755, passing Marcus Carr’s 747 with nine assists in Tuesday’s win over Oregon State. His older brother Andrew, a former standout point guard at Gonzaga, is third at 691.
Nembhard’s 4.52 assist-to-turnover ratio is No. 2 nationally and his 37.7% 3-point accuracy is the highest of his career. The senior averages 11 points per game, a career low, because he’s attempting at least 1.5 fewer shots per game than his first three seasons.
Nembhard has scored just eight points on seven shot attempts in the past two games, but Gonzaga put up 105 and 98 points, respectively, against Portland and Oregon State. He finished with 23 assists and only two turnovers in those two wins.
Marciulionis pilots a Saint Mary’s offense that is efficient but usually operates at a slower pace. He has scored at least 22 points in four games and has a pair of 11-assist outings. He’s hit a career-best 36% on 3s and his 13.6 scoring average is well ahead of last year’s 12.4.
The 6-4, 200-pound senior is 38th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.66). Teammate Jordan Ross (3.14) is 19th nationally. Marciulionis is also a high-level defender.
Nembhard averaged 17 points on 52.4% shooting, 7.3 assists and 2.7 turnovers while playing all 40 minutes in every game as the Zags went 1-2 against the Gaels last season. Marciulionis averaged 11.3 points, 50% shooting, 5.7 assists, 1.7 turnovers and 38.7 minutes in those three games.
The point guard who gets his team’s offense into a comfort zone and keeps it there the longest will likely come out on top in this showdown of the WCC’s perennial powers.
Nembhard and Marciulionis might end up guarding each other, but there’s also a chance of cross-matching. Hickman could be assigned to Marciulionis and vice versa and the same goes for Nembhard and Ross.
Gonzaga’s Ryan Nembhard and Saint Mary’s Augustas Marciulionis: A Clash of StylesWhen Gonzaga’s Ryan Nembhard and Saint Mary’s Augustas Marciulionis take the court, fans are in for a clash of styles that promises to be both exciting and intense. Nembhard, a dynamic point guard known for his speed and playmaking abilities, will be tasked with navigating the Gaels’ defense led by Marciulionis, a physical and tenacious defender.
Nembhard’s ability to break down defenses with his quickness and court vision will be put to the test against Marciulionis, who prides himself on shutting down opposing guards with his relentless pressure and defensive instincts. The matchup between these two talented players is sure to be a highlight of the game, as they battle for control of the tempo and momentum.
As the game unfolds, fans can expect to see Nembhard’s flashy passes and scoring prowess go head-to-head with Marciulionis’ gritty defense and ability to disrupt opposing offenses. Both players bring unique skills and strengths to the table, making this clash of styles one to watch for any basketball enthusiast.
In the end, it will be a battle of wills between Nembhard and Marciulionis, with each player looking to outsmart and outplay the other. Whether it’s Nembhard’s finesse or Marciulionis’ physicality that ultimately prevails, one thing is for certain – fans are in for a thrilling matchup when these two talented players face off on the court.

Preview
About Rutgers: Led by projected top-five NBA Draft picks Ace Bailey (20.7 points per game, 1st in the Big Ten) and Dylan Harper (18.6 pig, 4th in the Big Ten), the Scarlet Knights have plenty of size and athleticism, but have struggled to make it count against fellow power-conference opponents, as they enter the weekend 11-10.
So far this season, Rutgers has been a two-man game, with both Bailey and Harper averaging more than 11.0 points per game more than any of their teammates. So far this season, the duo has attempted 44.8 percent of Rutgers’ field-goal attempts.
Stylistically, Rutgers leans into its physicality, averaging 21.9 free-throw attempts per game and ranking 258th in percentage of field-goal attempts coming from 3-point range. Defense has been a weak point at times — 211th in points per possession allowed, 107th in KenPom’s adjusted defensive efficiency — but Rutgers has scored quadrant-1 wins over UCLA, at Nebraska, and at Northwestern on Wednesday.
Matchup to watch: With Harper out to injury, the matchup of Bailey vs. Michigan’s Danny Wolf will be the key matchup. Bailey, who scored 37 points in Rutgers’ win Wednesday, is averaging a Big Ten-leading 20.7 points per game to go with 7.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. The 6-foot-10, 200-pounder can score at every level, as he is currently the only high-major player in the country with at least 40 made field goals each from 3, the midrange and by the rim, per BartTorvik.com. Bailey has scored 17 points or more in six straight games, and at least 15 points in all but three games this season.
On the other side, Wolf has been in something of a slump lately. In Michigan’s last five games, Wolf has 10.6 points per game (he averaged 14.6 the prior nine games), is shooting 36.2 percent from the field (previously was 58.7 percent from the field) and has struggled especially to make a different in the first half of games.
How well Wolf can defend Bailey’s scoring by himself, and what he’s bringing to Michigan’s offense on the other end, will go a long way in this matchup
Keys for Michigan
- Keep Bailey contested. Odds are that Bailey will score a lot, draw fouls and control his matchup at times. But keeping him inefficient on his shots will limit Rutgers’ chances, especially with Harper out.
- Match the Scarlet Knights’ physicality. Rutgers wants Saturday to be a bruising game for the Wolverines, and has played like it for much of Big Ten play. Just a few days after Dusty May said he wants his team to show more physicality, Saturday offers a test on the Wolverines’ ability to win a grittier game.
- Get area 50-1 going. In addition to Wolf’s slump above, Vlad Goldin is coming off a four-point, 17-minute performance affected by an illness. If he and Wolf can come out strong Saturday, Rutgers will struggle to keep pace with the Wolverines.

Real Madrid have dealt with numerous injuries lately, but with defender Antonio Rudiger needing to be subbed out in the 15th minute of their match facing Espanyol on Saturday, manager Carlo Ancelotti will be sweating. The German defender appeared to suffer a hamstring injury before being withdrawn from the match where he was replaced by young defender Raul Ascencio.
Rudiger seemed to feel discomfort while defending a cross before coming out after being examined by the physios.
Already starting Aurelien Tchouameni at center back due to Eder Militao being absent with an ACL injury of his own, this could put Madrid’s defensive corps in quite a tight spot with big games on the horizon. Not only is there a top-of-the-table clash in the Madrid derby with Atletico Madrid on Feb. 8, but in quick succession, Los Blancos will head to Manchester for the first leg of the Champions League knockout round playoffs against Manchester City.
Real Madrid expect to win the Champions League each year, not just make it to the round of 16, but if Rudiger isn’t ready for the first leg on Feb. 11, they’ll struggle to track Erling Haaland and make it out with a victory.
Rudiger’s physicality and mastery of the dark arts to get into the head of his opponents is something unmatched by other defenders in the world which is why he has become a mainstay in the Real Madrid defense. Of course, there’s always the chance that his withdrawal from the Espanyol match is just a precaution to make sure that he’s healthy for a busy February, but missing any time would come as a concern.
Real Madrid’s injury troubles seem to be mounting as they prepare to face off against Manchester City in the Champions League. The Spanish giants are already dealing with a number of key players sidelined due to injuries, including the likes of Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio, and Rodrygo. The latest blow comes in the form of Karim Benzema, who picked up a muscle injury during their La Liga clash against Levante. The French striker has been an instrumental player for Real Madrid this season, scoring crucial goals and providing a creative spark in the attack.
With Benzema’s availability for the upcoming Champions League fixture against Manchester City uncertain, Real Madrid will have to rely on their other attacking options to step up. Zinedine Zidane will likely turn to players like Vinicius Junior, Isco, and Luka Jovic to fill the void left by Benzema’s absence.
Facing a formidable opponent like Manchester City, Real Madrid will need all hands on deck to secure a positive result. The injury woes only add to the challenge for Zidane’s side, but they will have to dig deep and find a way to overcome the odds if they hope to advance in the Champions League.

Pre-Match Facts: Mohamed Salah Could Make Premier League History in Liverpool’s Clash with Bournemouth
Pre-Match Facts: Mohamed Salah Could Make Premier League History in Liverpool’s Clash with Bournemouth Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s No.11, stands on the cusp of a historic milestone as he gears up for the upcoming clash against AFC Bournemouth. Already with 19 goals this season, scoring once more will see him join the prestigious ranks of Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Sergio Aguero, and Harry Kane—each having netted 20+ goals in five different Premier League campaigns. This elite status, detailed by liverpoolfc.com, not only underscores Salah’s consistent excellence but also his pivotal role in Liverpool’s offensive machinery.
Salah’s Track Record and Liverpool’s Form
Salah’s journey has been nothing short of spectacular, with a tally of 176 Premier League goals, positioning him just shy of Frank Lampard in the all-time scorers list. His ability to influence games is further highlighted by the Reds’ ongoing unbeaten streak in the league, currently standing at 18 games, a testament to their formidable form. This weekend, against a Bournemouth team that has shown resilience at the Vitality Stadium, beating both Manchester City and Arsenal this season, Salah’s prowess will be crucial for Liverpool to maintain their momentum.

Strategically, Liverpool has excelled in converting high turnovers into scoring opportunities, a facet where Salah’s speed and precision come to the forefront. The team has managed more shots from high turnovers than most, second only to Bournemouth. This stat suggests a dynamic match-up where both teams will look to exploit any lapses in the opponent’s half. Furthermore, Liverpool’s record of winning all 14 games in which they’ve scored first this season augurs well for their chances if Salah or his teammates can break the deadlock early.
Potential Records and Historical Comparisons
This game is not just about the present but resonates deeply with historical significance. The last team to conquer the top three sides from the previous season’s standings, as Bournemouth aims to, was Blackburn Rovers in 2005-06—a narrative adding an extra layer of challenge and intrigue to this fixture. For Salah, his record against Bournemouth is impressive, with nine goals in 11 appearances, including a memorable hat-trick back in December 2018. As he prepares to possibly etch his name alongside the legends of the Premier League, the stage is set for another headline-worthy performance.
