Bradley Beal’s contract is a problem as the NBA’s trade deadline approaches.
The Phoenix Suns guard is currently in the third season of a five-year, $251 million contract he signed with the Washington Wizards. The nearly $111 million he’s set to make on top of the $50 million he’s making this season aren’t the biggest issues in the deal. He also has a full no-trade clause, which is making it incredibly difficult for the Suns to move him.
An NBA player rarely gets a no-trade clause. Beal and LeBron James are the only players to have them in their current contracts. In fact, in the history of the NBA only 10 players have ever received them, a list that consists of David Robinson, John Stockton, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Dirk Nowitzki, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, James and Beal.
It’s shocking that Beal is included on that list.
Jimmy Butler is one of the biggest pieces available at this year’s trade deadline and Phoenix is his preferred destination. It seems like the Suns would love to add him to Kevin Durant and Devin Booker while dumping Beal. A deal like that would allow the Miami Heat to rid themselves of Butler and Phoenix to ship out an underperforming, overpriced Beal. That said, he’d only waive his no trade clause for the right fit and that doesn’t seem to be out there.
CBS Sports’ Bill Reiter quoted an Eastern Conference executive as saying, “[Beal] is now controlling the biggest trade in the NBA because he got something from Washington two years ago no one else would have given him.”
Beal is a three-time All-Star but hasn’t lived up to his deal in Phoenix. He’s averaging 16.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists, while playing 32.6 minutes per game this season.
Normally it’d be easy to ship him to a team that would take a boatload of draft picks in exchange for onboarding his lucrative contract. But the Suns simply can’t do that unless they find Beal a place he’d like to play.
That’s turning into a nearly impossible task.
Bradley Beal, the star shooting guard for the Washington Wizards, has a rare no-trade clause in his contract that has reportedly been a major factor in stalling any potential trades involving him. The no-trade clause gives Beal the power to veto any trade that the Wizards might propose, and it has effectively put a roadblock in front of any potential deals.
Beal’s no-trade clause is a rarity in the NBA, as most players do not have this type of leverage in trade negotiations. It gives Beal significant control over his future and allows him to dictate where he wants to play, rather than being at the mercy of the team that holds his contract.
The presence of the no-trade clause has made it difficult for the Wizards to find a suitable trade partner for Beal, as any potential deal would have to meet his approval. This has limited the team’s options and made it challenging to make a move that would benefit both Beal and the organization.
Despite the trade market being stalled by Beal’s no-trade clause, there are still rumors swirling about potential destinations for the talented guard. Teams like the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers have all been mentioned as potential landing spots for Beal, but until he is willing to waive his no-trade clause, any potential deal remains in limbo.
In the meantime, Beal continues to be a standout player for the Wizards, averaging over 30 points per game and cementing his status as one of the top shooting guards in the league. Whether he ultimately decides to stay in Washington or seek a new opportunity elsewhere, one thing is for certain – Bradley Beal’s rare no-trade clause has certainly made things interesting in the NBA trade market.
Man City open talks for €60m former Barcelona midfielder, club have 40% sell-on clause
FC Barcelona could find themselves in a situation where they can benefit financially in a big way before the transfer window closes through a deal involving one of their former players.
Mika Marmol, currently at UD Las Palmas, is attracting interest from AS Roma as well as Sevilla, with Barça retaining 50% of his rights.
Now, another former La Masia talent, Nico Gonzalez, playing at FC Porto is the subject of transfer speculation.
Man City want Nico Gonzalez
According to Fabrizio Romano, Premier League champions Manchester City have opened talks to sign Nico Gonzalez from Porto – a deal which would bring significant revenue for Barcelona.

Pep Guardiola’s side have made a formal approach for the Spanish talent and are in talks with the Portuguese giants as they seek to add a new midfielder before the transfer window closes.
Nico has a release clause worth €60 million in his contract with Porto, while Barcelona hold a 40% future sell-on clause.
As per the update from Romano, Porto are unwilling to let the ex-La Masia talent leave and will only consider his departure for a significantly high fee.
In that scenario, the Blaugrana will stand to benefit greatly as they would be entitled to 40% of the transfer fee that Manchester City pay to Porto for Nico.
Should the deal go ahead swiftly, it might also open the doors for Barcelona to sign Marcus Rashford, whose pursuit has hit a standstill owing to the lack of salary space.
Manchester City is reportedly in talks to sign former Barcelona midfielder, Thiago Alcantara, for a fee of €60 million. The Spanish international, who currently plays for Bayern Munich, is said to be interested in a move to the Premier League.
One interesting aspect of the potential transfer is that Barcelona have a 40% sell-on clause in place for Thiago, meaning they will receive a significant portion of any future transfer fee if he is sold by City.
Thiago, known for his technical ability and vision on the field, would be a valuable addition to City’s midfield as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.

Manchester City have reportedly opened talks with former Barcelona midfielder, who is currently playing for another club. The Premier League champions are said to be willing to pay €60m for the talented midfielder, who has impressed with his performances in recent years.
It is understood that City are keen to bring the player to the Etihad Stadium as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. The club are said to be in negotiations with the player’s current club, with a deal potentially close to being agreed.
One interesting aspect of the deal is that Barcelona have a 40% sell-on clause in the midfielder’s contract, meaning they would be entitled to a significant portion of any future transfer fee. This could complicate negotiations between the two clubs, but City are said to be confident of reaching an agreement.
City fans will be excited at the prospect of adding such a talented player to their squad, and will be hoping that a deal can be completed in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing transfer story.
Will Ferrell had a unique clause in his contract about a famous actor he flat out refused to work with again.
We all have probably had a coworker at some point or another who has pi**ed us off to no end.
If you have never had that experience? You were that coworker.
What many of us won’t have had however, is the opportunity to put into our contract something that bars them from working with us again if we want to, which reportedly is exactly what Ferrell had.

Now unique contract clauses in Hollywood are no rare thing.
Queen Latifah famously has clauses in many of her contracts prohibiting her characters from dying, The Rock puts it into contracts that he cannot lose fights, and Reese Witherspoon got it into her contract that she get to keep all her clothes from Legally Blonde 2.
Ferrell’s meanwhile, actually led to a sequel to Elf never having been made.
The story came about when the late James Caan in 2020 was interviewed on the radio and he was incredibly frank about the reason a sequel never happened.

Favreau is now most well known as an actor, playing Happy Hogan in a multitude of Marvel films and Pete in Friends.
The 58-year-old has also directed several classics such as Zathura, Chef, and of course, Elf.
Caan spoke about the pair in the context of a sequel to Elf, saying that himself Zoey Deschanel, himself and Mary Steenburgen were all on board to return.
He said: “We were gonna do it.
“I thought, ‘Oh my god, I finally got a franchise movie, I could make some money, let my kids do what the hell they want to do.’
“But the director and Will didn’t get along very well.”
Caan claims the two did not get on (Sylvain Gaboury via Getty Images)
He claimed that Ferrell was considering it, but didn’t do the film as he had in his contract that he refused to work with Favreau again.
He said: “He had it in his contract, it was one of those things.”
Ferrell has not acknowledged this but has stated that he turned down £23 million to appear in a sequel to Elf.
He said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter: “I would have had to promote the movie from an honest place, which would’ve been, like, ‘Oh no, it’s not good. I just couldn’t turn down that much money.’
I thought, ‘Can I actually say those words? I don’t think I can, so I guess I can’t do the movie’.”
The LADbible group have reached out to representatives for Will Ferrell for comment.
In a recent contract negotiation, Will Ferrell included a unique clause stating that he never wants to work with a certain famous actor again. 4:46pm: Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports that Pressly has not agreed to waive his no-trade clause to this point. According to Rome, while the Astros are shopping Pressly, a deal is not considered imminent. The veteran righty would obviously need to approve a trade for anything to get across the finish line.
4:36pm: The Cubs are “on verge” of acquiring right-hander Ryan Pressly from the Astros, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Pressly has a full no-trade clause and will have to waive it for a deal to be finalized.
Chicago has been looking for another back-end reliever. Pressly has plenty of experience in the late innings. He worked as Houston’s closer between 2020-23. Pressly saved 12 games in the shortened season and recorded between 26 and 33 saves over the next three years. He didn’t allow an earned run average north of 3.58 in any of those seasons.
More to come.
According to recent reports, Houston Astros pitcher Ryan Pressly has not waived his no-trade clause despite speculation about potential trade talks. Pressly, who has been a key asset for the Astros, is apparently content with staying put and helping the team in their push for the playoffs.
This news comes as a relief to Astros fans who have come to rely on Pressly’s dominant performances out of the bullpen. With his no-trade clause intact, it looks like Pressly will remain a crucial part of the team’s pitching staff for the foreseeable future.
While trade rumors may continue to swirl around Pressly, it’s clear that he is committed to his role with the Astros and is focused on helping the team succeed. As the season heats up and the playoff race intensifies, Pressly’s presence will be invaluable as the Astros look to make a deep postseason run.

Should UNC win a national championship under Belichick’s guidance, he will earn an extra $1.75 million.
Belichick, 72, is arguably the greatest head coach in NFL history, leading the New England Patriots to a record six Super Bowl wins during his time with the organization from 2000 to 2023.
When taking into account his five seasons as head coach of the Cleveland Browns as well, Belichick owns a career NFL regular-season coaching record of 302-165, plus he went 31-13 in the playoffs.
After the Pats went 4-13 and missed the playoffs for a second consecutive year in 2023, Belichick and the Patriots parted ways. Belichick tried to land another NFL head coaching job immediately after, but he wasn’t hired.
While it was expected that he would re-enter the pool of head coaching candidates at the end of the 2024 campaign, he instead decided to join the college ranks, agreeing to become the Tar Heels’ next head coach last month.
Belichick began his coaching career in 1975 with the Baltimore Colts, but he has never coached at the collegiate level until now.
Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported last week that Belichick technically hadn’t signed his UNC contract yet, leading to speculation that Belichick could leave and land an NFL job if the opportunity were to arise.
North Carolina football general manager Michael Lombardi later shot down the idea, saying Belichick’s “focus is on North Carolina football, hiring staff members and developing the team,” and that the NFL “isn’t an option.”
There are still four head coaching vacancies in the NFL, although all of them figure to be filled in the coming weeks.
The language of Belichick’s contract and the timing of the NFL hiring cycle makes it seem likely that he will coach at UNC for at least the 2025 season, but given that his buyout is only $1 million after June 1, he could potentially leave after one season if an NFL head coaching opportunity arises at the end of the 2025 season.
Until then, Belichick will attempt to get the Tar Heels back on track after a disappointing 6-7 showing in 2024.
In a shocking turn of events, the signed contract of legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick with the University of North Carolina has been released to the public. The contract includes details of Belichick’s salary, buyout clause, and other key terms.
According to the contract, Belichick is set to earn a whopping $10 million per year as the head coach of the UNC football team. This makes him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football history. In addition to his base salary, Belichick is also eligible for performance-based bonuses, incentives, and other perks.
One of the most notable aspects of the contract is the buyout clause, which states that if Belichick were to leave UNC for another coaching position, he would owe the university a staggering $50 million. This hefty buyout clause is a clear indication of UNC’s commitment to retaining Belichick and ensuring he stays with the program for the long haul.
Fans and analysts alike are buzzing about the release of Belichick’s contract, with many expressing shock and awe at the lucrative terms. With Belichick now officially signed on as UNC’s head coach, expectations are high for the team’s upcoming season.

The NBA trade deadline is on Feb. 6, so between now and then there will be no shortage of rumors to keep us entertained. We’ve already seen a few trades go through, as the Brooklyn Nets jettisoned both Dennis Schroder and Dorian Finney-Smith in exchange for draft capital from the Warriors and Lakers, respectively. But those won’t be the only moves made before the deadline as contenders try to find missing pieces, and rebuilding teams look to become sellers in hopes of adding draft picks and/or younger players.
The biggest trade narrative that we’ll be watching is Jimmy Butler’s situation in Miami. Trading Butler is going to be difficult because of his contract, but also due to his age and injury history. There hasn’t been much traction yet on that front, but that doesn’t mean teams aren’t working the phones to try and get something done. Butler aside, here’s the latest intel from around the league as trade season is in full swing.
Bradley Beal could waive no-trade clause for right team
Beal’s time in Phoenix may be coming to an end, if he wants it to. There have been rumors bubbling about the Suns trying to trade Beal, ideally in hopes of landing Butler, but the wrench keeping that trade from happening is that Beal has a full no-trade clause. The Suns have to get Beal’s approval before making any trade involving him, but according to The Athletic’s Fred Katz, Beal might consider doing so for the right situation. The Suns have not approached Beal about a trade, as he’s said on multiple occasions, but Katz is reporting that Beal would consider waiving his no-trade clause if the right situation came along, which would ideally be in another winning situation.
The Heat have said that if they were to trade Butler they would want players who can contribute to winning right now, and Beal fits that criteria. But Katz is reporting that Beal isn’t of interest to the Heat because of his no-trade clause, making it difficult to trade him down the line if they want to. A third team would all but certainly need to be involved for the Suns to land Butler, which is easier said than done. The Milwaukee Bucks have been mentioned as a potential third team to help facilitate Butler moving to Phoenix, but that doesn’t mean it will happen.
Lakers’ LeBron James has seemingly begun his annual campaign to convince the team to make a trade
Sam Quinn
Beal’s status with the Suns overshadowed the fact that Nurkic also got demoted from the starting lineup at the same time in favor of Mason Plumlee. Phoenix traded for Nick Richards last week and further pushed Nurkic down the totem pole, and now it looks like the team’s looking to trade the big man, per Katz. Similarly to Beal, though, finding a team willing to take on Nurkic is going to be difficult, especially as he’s now a fourth-string big man making $37.4 million between this year and next. Between declined production and an expensive contract, it might be unlikely that Phoenix finds a home for Nurkic before the deadline. If he does remain on the roster past Feb. 6, he’ll likely be a trade candidate in the offseason when he’s on an expiring contract for next season.
One of the bigger stories immediately after the trade deadline last season was Kyle Kuzma announcing that he rejected a trade that would’ve sent him to the Dallas Mavericks. Kuzma revealed that information to The Athletic’s Josh Robbins, in which he said Wizards president Michael Winger presented him with the trade offer. Kuzma said he turned it down in part because he didn’t view the Mavericks as a championship contender. Cut to a few months after that, and the Mavericks made it to the NBA Finals.
Now, though, as another trade deadline approaches, Kuzma’s name is being mentioned yet again, and he might be changing his tune on wanting to stay in D.C.
“We’ll see how it goes,” Kuzma said via The Athletic. “I don’t know. I didn’t think last year was the right time after signing the deal. That was kind of more of a last-year thing. I haven’t had conversations [with Wizards management]. I haven’t even talked about the deadline, haven’t talked about being traded. So, this is really the first time I’m really talking about it.”
While Kuzma isn’t saying he’s completely open to a trade, he’s also not closing the door on it. And given the fact that he seems to have some input on if he’s traded or not based on his description of last season’s potential trade, he appears to be more open of the idea if the Wizards are looking to shop him. Kuzma’s stock certainly isn’t as high as it was a season ago, but he’s a quality two-way player who has already shown he can be a valuable piece on a championship team.
With the NBA trade deadline quickly approaching, there are some intriguing rumors circulating around the league. One of the biggest names being mentioned is Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal, who could potentially waive his no-trade clause for the right team.
Beal has been the subject of trade rumors for quite some time now, as the Wizards continue to struggle in the Eastern Conference. Despite his loyalty to the organization, Beal may be open to a change of scenery if it means joining a contender.
On the other hand, Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma has also been mentioned in trade talks. Kuzma, who has had a rollercoaster career with the Lakers, is reportedly open to being moved to a new team.
With the trade deadline approaching on February 10th, it will be interesting to see if any of these rumors come to fruition. Stay tuned for more updates on potential NBA trades as the deadline draws near.
