  • Revival restaurants abruptly close all Twin Cities locations

Locations were added and menu options grew, but a change for the St. Paul restaurant earlier this year, when the menu expanded to add Chicago-style beef sandwiches and tavern-style pizzas, might have been the Hail Mary pass that didn’t catch on with the enthusiasm the company needed to move forward.

“With St. Paul, we were trying to interject some fun and find a path forward,” Boemer said. “The worst part is that our team right now is amazing across the board. That is the hardest thing. Across four restaurants, we were trying to steer the Titanic. That only happens by the hard work and grace by the people you’re surrounded by and they all gave it all.”

And now, in the midst of the slowest season in the industry, more than 100 restaurant workers are — without notice — without jobs.

Co-owner Rancone said the decision came after a hard look at the company’s finances. “Anything but a sudden closure would have put our staff and vendors at risk of not getting paid,” he said.

Boemer added his perspective saying, “It’s been a very difficult few years. We fought through COVID. There are a lot of people in our industry having a really hard time right now. January and February are hard on restaurants. Winter is a difficult time and this one was ferocious.”

As to the nature of the announcement, he conceded: “The abruptness is hard. It’s hard, but it’s part of the nature of how these things come and go. Sadly, restaurants are not a forever thing.”

In a shocking turn of events, Revival restaurants have announced the abrupt closure of all their Twin Cities locations. Known for their delicious Southern comfort food and popular fried chicken, fans of the restaurant chain are left devastated by the sudden news.

The closure comes as a surprise to many, as Revival had garnered a loyal following in the Twin Cities food scene. The reasons behind the closures have not been disclosed by the restaurant management, leaving customers and employees alike in the dark.

Many are left wondering what will happen to their favorite dishes and where they will go to satisfy their cravings for Revival’s signature fare. The sudden closure serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by restaurants in the ever-changing and competitive industry.

As Twin Cities foodies mourn the loss of Revival, they are left with memories of memorable meals and hopes that another restaurant will fill the void left by the beloved chain.

“We’re doing everything we can as a city to prepare for this winter storm,” Whitmire said. “We will be here to keep you safe and respond to emergencies, but we need your help.”

Whitmire urged people to limit time outdoors and stay home if possible.

“We don’t want you to risk your life or jeopardize the safety of our police officers and firefighters if they have to rescue you when you could have stayed home,” he said. “Our first responders must remain focused on critical incidents as conditions worsen.”

“Keeping Louisianans safe is our top priority,” Landry said in a statement. “I am declaring a state of emergency for the incoming winter storm currently forecast to impact Louisiana, and I’m encouraging everyone to stay alert, monitor the weather forecast, and prepare now for any potential impacts.”

Officials announced that state offices in Louisiana will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday because of the storm, and a press conference will be held Monday afternoon to discuss preparations across the state.

The city of New Orleans has been included in a Winter Storm Warning, and that doesn’t happen often.

“In Orleans Parish, I reached out to the weather service (Sunday), and they said that it’s only the second time on record they’ve had a Winter Storm Warning for Orleans Parish,” FOX Weather Storm Specialist Mike Seidel said. “Just that one parish. Not some of the other areas like up here in Baton Rouge.”

The Louisiana Department of Transportation has been busy pretreating state roads and highways across the region in anticipation of the storm, and Louisiana State Police are urging people to stay off the roads if possible when the storm hits.

“With the extreme winter weather conditions expected to impact our state over the next few days, Louisiana State Police urges our residents and visitors to stay weather aware and avoid all unnecessary travel,” Col. • Cori Close Reflects Ahead of UCLA’s Showdown With Baylor

The UCLA women’s basketball team, off to a historic 17-0 start (6-0 in Big Ten play), is set to take on Baylor University (16-3, 6-1) at the inaugural Coretta Scott King Classic.

For Coach Cori Close, the event represents more than a competitive clash between two powerhouse programs. It’s an opportunity to honor the legacy of Coretta Scott King and the King family’s contributions to justice and equality.

“To be a part of excellent competition against Baylor and having national exposure is always special,” Close told reporters on Friday. “When you can couple it with such an amazing, important cause and recognition in the Coretta Scott King Classic — acknowledging the great work of the King family — that’s really unique. It’s really an honor to be a part of it, and I love the vision that has been executed here. We’re lucky to be participating in such a great event.”

Baylor enters the game ranked among the nation’s top programs, despite taking some early-season losses. They boast an impressive win over Utah, a team UCLA is familiar with from conference play.

“Baylor’s playing great,” Close said. “Their talent package is there. Just because they took some losses early, they’re a really good team and they’re playing really well. They beat a really good Utah team, obviously, that we’re really familiar with. We’re very attentive to what Baylor’s doing and how well they’re playing right now.”

Monday’s game marks the 11th meeting between the two programs. Baylor holds a 7-3 advantage in the all-time series, but UCLA claimed victory in its last matchup, an 82-68 win at Pauley Pavilion in 2017. With both teams playing at a high level, the matchup promises to be a closely contested battle.

The Bruins are heading into the game after a challenging week, both on and off the court. Wildfires in Los Angeles have impacted the team, adding emotional weight to their preparation.

“I think there are pluses and minuses to both sides,” Close said about the timing of the trip. “Going on the road may be able to narrow our focus and give us some family time, but it’s also going to be a taxing trip. The bottom line is that we’ve known this was coming for a long time, and we’re prepared for it. We have to pre-decide that we are lucky to compete. We’re ready. We’re going to make the most of every opportunity and create some memorable wins along the way.”

Amid adversity, Close expressed admiration for her team’s resilience and character.

“I love them deeply,” Close said. “I love their work ethic, their commitment to represent this university, and the choices they’ve made. That’s why I could care less about 17-0. All I care about is being 1-0 on Monday afternoon. The road to go where we want to go is very narrow, but I believe this team is committed to and willing to do what it takes to stay on that road.”

Close emphasized the importance of focusing on the small details that make a big difference, even when success comes easily.

“We’re still scoring, we’re still winning, we’re still getting stops, even when we haven’t paid close enough attention to the details,” Close said. “It’s my job to create that discomfort when we don’t do that. It’s about making the details stick in their hearts and minds because that’s what will matter in the toughest moments.”

The Coretta Scott King Classic is an opportunity for UCLA to not only maintain its undefeated record but also grow as a team. With Baylor providing a formidable challenge, the game serves as a measuring stick for the Bruins as they continue their pursuit of excellence.

As UCLA’s women’s basketball team prepares to face off against Baylor in a highly anticipated matchup, head coach Cori Close took a moment to reflect on the team’s journey and the challenges that lie ahead.

Close, who has led the Bruins to multiple NCAA tournament appearances and a reputation as a competitive force in women’s college basketball, expressed her pride in her team’s growth and resilience throughout the season.

“We’ve faced tough opponents and adversity, but we’ve come out stronger because of it,” Close said. “Our players have shown incredible determination and heart, and I have no doubt they will bring that same energy to the court against Baylor.”

The Bruins will face a formidable opponent in the Baylor Lady Bears, who are known for their physical play and dominant inside presence. Close acknowledged the challenges that Baylor presents but expressed confidence in her team’s ability to rise to the occasion.

“We know Baylor is a tough team, but we are prepared and focused on executing our game plan,” Close said. “We have the talent, the drive, and the will to compete at the highest level, and I believe in our ability to come out on top.”

As the Bruins gear up for the showdown with Baylor, Close emphasized the importance of staying true to their identity as a team and playing with passion and intensity.

“We have worked hard all season to get to this point, and we are ready to leave it all on the court,” Close said. “I have full faith in this team and their ability to rise to the challenge and make a statement in this game.”

Fans are eagerly anticipating the matchup between UCLA and Baylor, with both teams poised to deliver a thrilling and competitive game. Close’s reflections serve as a reminder of the dedication and determination that have brought the Bruins to this point, and her confidence in her team’s abilities is sure to inspire both players and supporters alike.

    Houston Weather Forecast

    Timeline:

Tuesday looks like a snow day. Yes, actually a snow day in the Houston area.

Now, while the exact locations of significant snow are still uncertain, it definitely looks like 2 to 3 inches of snow in the greater Houston area are possible. There will likely be a few spots north of Houston that even see 3, 4 or 5 inches of snow, so it’s pretty exciting stuff.

Unfortunately, that does come with some hazards. Ice may also be mixed in with the snow, and there also is a chance that the snow could be slushy, causing it to briefly melt and then freeze overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, so travel is going to be treacherous all across our area on Tuesday and for the first half of Wednesday.

Beyond that, we’ll continue to have a series of cold mornings, but slightly warmer afternoons, and we’re hoping to get back into the 60s by Saturday.

In light of severe weather conditions, Houston ISD, along with several other school districts, have made the decision to close on both Tuesday and Wednesday. This closure is in response to the safety concerns of students and staff as the city braces for inclement weather.

Parents and students are advised to stay tuned to the district’s website and local news stations for updates on when schools will resume normal operations. In the meantime, it is important to stay safe and take necessary precautions during this time.

We understand the inconvenience this may cause for families, but the safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time.

  • Glenn Close confesses biggest regret about on-screen kiss with Robert Redford

Glenn Close revealed the identity of the Hollywood legend whose kissing prowess left a lasting impression on her.

The 77-year-old actress participated in a round of “Plead the Fifth” during her appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live!” on Thursday. In the segment, host Andy Cohen asks guests three questions, and they are given only one opportunity to “Plead the Fifth.”

At the beginning of the game, Cohen noted that Close has starred in “so many romantic movies,” before asking her, “Who has been your best on-screen kiss?”

The “Fatal Attraction” star briefly closed her eyes and smiled before replying, “Robert Redford… in ‘The Natural.’”

However, Close expressed her regret that the encounter was brief.

“I only got to kiss him once,” she recalled.

    “Only one take?” Cohen asked.

“No, no, maybe we did two takes,” Close remembered.

“But I also threw him out of my apartment in that movie,” she added. “But I ended up with him.”

In the 1984 movie “The Natural,” Redford played Roy Hobbs, a young baseball player with a “natural” talent for the game. Hobbs’ career is derailed after he is inexplicably shot by a disturbed woman, but he returns to professional baseball 16 years later and defies expectations to become one of the league’s best players.

Close played Hobbs’ former girlfriend, Iris Gaines, who reunites with him over the course of the movie. During her appearance on “Watch What Happens Live,” Cohen pointed out that Close earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in “The Natural.”

“What performance of yours do you think, at the time, was most deserving of an Oscar?” Cohen asked Close, who has never won an Academy Award.

“All of them!” she exclaimed to laughter and applause from the audience.

Close was also asked to name the project she “took on strictly for the paycheck.”

“Oh my goodness,” Close said with a smile. “I plead the Fifth!”

The actress earned her most recent Oscar nomination for her performance “Hillbilly Elegy,” the 2020 film based on Vice President-elect JD Vance’s 2016 memoir of the same name. In the movie, Close played Bonnie “Mamaw” Vance, the grandmother of Vance, who was portrayed by Gabriel Basso.

While appearing on “The View” earlier this week, Close shared that Vance’s family was “generous” while they were filming the movie adaptation.

Close said he and his family visited the set and Vance helped Owen Asztalos, the young actor who played him as a boy in the film, with the role.

“We all met members of the family. We all sat with them individually, you know, one-on-one and, for me, with Mamaw, I’d say, ‘How did she walk into a room? How did she sit? How did she smoke? How did she laugh? How did she change the chemistry?’ So that was, you know, the family was very generous with their time,” Close said.

Fox News Digital’s Hanna Panreck contributed to this report.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, legendary actress Glenn Close opened up about her biggest regret when it comes to her on-screen kiss with Robert Redford in the film “The Natural.”

Close revealed that she wishes she had taken more risks and made the kiss with Redford more passionate and memorable. She explained that at the time, she was nervous and unsure of herself, and as a result, the kiss lacked the intensity and emotion that she now wishes she had brought to the scene.

Despite her regret, Close acknowledged that working with Redford was a dream come true and that she has always admired his talent and professionalism. She hopes to have the opportunity to work with him again in the future and make up for what she sees as a missed opportunity.

Fans of Close and Redford have long praised the chemistry between the two actors in “The Natural,” but it seems that Close is now haunted by the missed potential of that iconic on-screen kiss. Perhaps one day, she will have the chance to right that wrong and create a cinematic moment that truly leaves a lasting impression.

  • Glenn Close Reveals Her Best Onscreen Kiss on ‘Watch What Happens Live’

Glenn Close is looking back on her romantic roles.

While appearing on Watch What Happens Live on Thursday night, Jan. 9, the 77-year-old actress participated in the show’s popular “Plead the Fifth” segment. Host Andy Cohen began by asking her, “Who has been your best onscreen kiss?”

After closing her eyes for a moment, Close replied, “Robert Redford. In The Natural.”

She went on to lament, “I only got to kiss him once,” prompting Cohen, 56, to respond, “Only one take?”

“No, no, maybe we did two takes,” the Fatal Attraction star responded, quickly adding, “But I also threw him out of my apartment in that movie. But I ended up with him.”

Cohen then noted that she “got an Oscar nomination out of it,” referring to her Best Supporting Actress nod. The 1984 sports drama famously starred Redford, 88, as Roy Hobbs, a middle-aged baseball player who seemingly comes out of nowhere to become a legendary batter. Close played his girlfriend Iris Gaines, with whom he unknowingly shared a son.

During the segment, Cohen also asked Close — who has been nominated for eight Academy Awards throughout her career — to share which of those performances she believes was most deserving of a golden statuette at the time. She immediately answered, “All of them!” with a laugh, eliciting cheers and applause from the audience and a high-five from the Bravo star.

Her response was a cheeky nod to the fact that she has never taken home a win at the Oscars, despite being recognized for her work in such films as The Big Chill, Hillbilly Elegy and Dangerous Liaisons. In 2021, when she tied with the late actor Peter O’Toole — who also had eight Oscar nominations and zero wins — she addressed the much-publicized statistic.

“First of all, I don’t think I’m a loser,” she told the Associated Press. “Who in that category is a loser? You’re there, you’re five people honored for the work that you’ve done by your peers. What’s better than that?”

She continued, “And I honestly feel that the press likes to have winners and losers. And then they say, ‘Who is the worst dressed?’ And, you know, ‘Who made the worst speech?’ Forget it. It’s not what it’s about.”

“I say, f— them!” she jokingly added.

When asked about her lack of wins earlier that same year, she said acting isn’t about the awards for her.

“It’s beyond me,” she said of her elusive golden statuette during an interview with Pete Davidson for Variety‘s Actors on Actors. “I don’t know what to say about that. I just have to keep doing what’s good. You’re fulfilled by your work, and that’s the process to me. It’s what feeds my soul, but it really is nice when other people like it.”

She added, “It might be cool to never get one. I wouldn’t mind being wheeled out when I’m old and drooling, and I have a gray wig to cover my bald head.”
