Budget alternative streaming camera
This camera gives me a legit CHEAP option for live-streaming.I’ve gone through a range of camera options in the 2+ years I’ve produced a weekly live streamed show. Basic webcams don’t frame the shot the way I would like and are a pain to position, since they don’t zoom. I was disappointed by the limited image size I could use for streaming using my Nikon D5600 DSLR camera, but I LOVED that it had optical zoom so I could easily frame my shots precisely.I kept watching YT videos suggesting $1000 DSLR or Mirrorless cameras for streaming “on a budget”. Um… no. My budget is a fraction of that!Right as I was about to give up I saw this USB camera offered for review and immediately assumed that for this price, it would suck.Wow! I was so wrong.What I like:- the camera is small (body is a 1.5” cube) and light weight- it mounts on a standard 1/4-20 threaded screw, like on tripods and camera mounts.- it doesn’t need a battery or AC power. It gets power from the same USB cable that carries the video signal.- it is dead simple, with only 3x adjustments on the lens; focus, zoom, and brightness- the image fills the screen in my broadcast software (my Nikon does not)- the image is useable for my streaming broadcast at 720, or 480.- the color saturation is rich at 480 (last picture)- the price! I really had lost hope of finding a useable HD camera with optical zoom for under $100.- no setup was required. I plugged it into a USB port and my Win11 pc and streaming software detected it automaticallyWhat I don’t like:- At full 1080 my little miniPC can’t process the video fast enough and it drops frames and loses sync with my audio source.- the color is a bit washed out at 1080 and 720 (3rd picture)

    This device, along with an OTG cable, since the camera’s cable is USB-A (male) – LARGE USB plug, that is – it requires an adapter module | cable that will fit your Android device – any device will do, even the cheapest Android device – cellular service is not necessarily required, hopefully you can find one cheap, like I did. A consumer user’s tech-travels note – iOS and iPadOS do not do friendly support of obscure third-party USB-connected peripherals, that are of some sort of, umm… I guess – cutting edge, or abandonable, or unknown, or… just couldn’t be included in the code, for i-devices, since there’s so many possibilities – Apple has higher standards, or more stringent standards, I suppose, and Android is more open-source, so there’s more support, in this case, for this USB camera.

    The specs are great! For a miniature camera. What it is, essentially, is a varifocal (manual focus) 1-10x optical zoom, with adjustable aperture and fine focus, aside from the zoom feature. Comparatively, the Google Pixel 7 Pro has 30x optical zoom, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max has some form of similar camera telephoto lens capability, somewhat comparable to the Google Product, with its 30x optical zoom – this means that you could see something 30 feet away as if it were 1 foot away. With this manual varifocal lens camera, in this listing, you can reasonably see something 10 feet away, as if it were 1 foot away, by comparison.

    Check out the cool blur and abstract photo possibilities there are, though, with this notion of analog features, in manual camera capabilities – ported over in to a hybrid digital camera with analog dials about it – there are 3 dials to this camera, which I’ve noted, previously – zoom, aperture, and fine focus.

    The device, itself, seems pretty sturdy. The old-fashioned thick USB cable construction is thick and sure – not quite thin and flimsy, like we’d been getting used to, with our mobile devices. I’ve taken the camera out, with me, in mobile photography outing settings, and it works great, and it holds up – I’ve had it for several weeks, now. The device is essentially what people might “try” to do, in doing Raspberry Pi projects, yet, who really does Raspberry Pi all that well? It would be a scarce person to come across. That being the case, this device is one part similar, in that it’s just a modular USB external camera, yet it’s already built, soldered wiring, the construction is solid, and it stands up to the rigors of traveling around, and even bunching up the cable and camera, altogether, in to a mobile packing situation. It’s pretty tough, all in all, and it’s a perfect choice, for a mobile digital photographer enthusiast. It’s not the absolute finest photo that you’d get, but it does have these natural analog effect capabilities that standard mobile device users only get as app features within their mobile phone devices – having the dials as manual analog effects is a truly pleasing aesthetic to have, under the user’s control.

    Okay, so this thing isn’t altogether terrible, it just isn’t great for anything. I’ll often try to figure out who the ideal buyer would be, for something I don’t have use for, myself, and I can only think of one practical application for this, and it’s kinda ridiculous. But, if you run around with your laptop as a vloggong cam, or things are always falling down or crashing around in your studio or office, and you don’t think a regular-ol’ webcam can stand up to the abuse, this might be the camera for you. I got it thinking I could use it as a second angle, or some kind of backup, and I’ve since found many better options up for those tasks, with better picture quality, so it just sits in the box, like a spare car part. I like that it’s sturdy, but don’t like that the power cord is fixed. And it just doesn’t excell in anything to choose it over any other similarly priced option out there. So, it gets a generous “Meh” of three stars. *Shrugs

    Holy COW what a suhweeeeeet camera!
    I do lots of virtual meetings for my job, as well as training webinars, interviews, and zoom recordings of training materials. I have a couple of different higher end webcams to fit different needs, but this new camera is likely to replace all of my external cameras because of its incredible versatility.

    Notice from the pics that you can connect this to a tripod on either top or bottom, it’ll also sit flat on a desktop or table top or whatever may be handy. it’s a 5 megapixel camera, which to those who are used to your phone camera may seem on the weaker side; it’s not, trust me, and the image quality, color, and frame rate is superb.
    Setup is a breeze thanks to plug n play tech, so plug the usb into a slot, choose the camera from your list, and git busy with it.
    Housing for the unit is aluminum, sturdy and weighty, you can definitely tell this is not a cheaply made camera.

    The manual zoom and lends adjustment levers are easy to use and adjust “on the fly,” so you can dial this bad boy in tighter than a sailor’s anchor knot!

    I have no quibbles, issues, or negatives here. This camera is freakin awesome, and if you get this as a gift for someone, this is a gift that will never be re-gifted, you can count on that.

      this was tested and the results observed were, 2592 x 1440 (3.732mp). i have a few of these style cams and they are pretty amazing at the clarity adn crispness. the detail it captures is pretty amazing. but they all seem to suffer from a fairly small sweet spot for that crispness. i am by no means a camera expert, but it seems to me if you are using this for a webcam you really shouldnt move forwards or backwards at all. i got this to try with a microscope, but have yet to find an adaptor that i can make work with it. what is surprising is there is no mention in the manual or listing as to how to accomplish this connection. maybe it is not for this, but why not? so that is alittle frustrating. such an amazing image but some drawbacks, meant for specific use cases.

      I have 2 of these now, and while they aren’t the mega-hyper-fast ones that exist, for my use, it’ll do fine. Solid built, it is a bit of heft, but small enough to not need much space. I have multiple ideas for this and the other 1, but as long as I don’t hard-mount them then they can be moved from one to another. Getting a software set up that one is comfortable with may be the most difficult part.

      The Global Shutter Manual Focus USB Camera was easy to setup and operate. The instruction manual is very small, but everything I need to know and understand is there.

      I do ZOOM video meetings which require multiple camera angles. I have this camera mounted on a small tripod so I can easily move around the room.
