With winter weather expected to reach the Wilmington Tuesday and continue into Wednesday, local schools and governments have announced schedule changes.
Here’s a look at what’s been announced as of Tuesday night.
YWCA Lower Cape Fear
The YWCA Lower Cape Fear will be closed on Wednesday due to winter weather.
New Hanover/Pender courts
The New Hanover County and the Pender County court systems will be closed Wednesday.
City of Southport
The city of Southport’s offices will be closed on Wednesday due to inclement weather, according to a post from the city’s Facebook page.
Administrative city staff will continue to work remotely. Public safety departments are staffed and prepared to respond to any emergencies.
Belville
The Belville Town Hall and Belville Riverwalk will be closed on Wednesday.
Moores Creek National Battlefield
In anticipation of the projected winter storm event, Moores Creek National Battlefield closed at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The park will remain closed on Wednesday. The park will reassess conditions Thursday morning before making a determination about park operations. Reopening of the park will be announced on the park websites and social media.
Dosher Memorial Hospital
Dosher Memorial Hospital has announced schedule changes in anticipation of hazardous travel conditions.
Dosher Medical Clinics
The following schedule changes apply to all Dosher primary care clinics, women’s health (Maritza Manrique-Kiniry), outpatient surgery clinic (Paul Armstrong’s office), and Walk-In Care at the Dosher Wellness Center.
Close at 5 p.m. Tuesday and will be closed on Wednesday. Will reopen at 10 a.m. Thursday, weather permitting.
Hospital Outpatient Services
The following schedule changes apply to the Dosher Wound Care Center, Cardiac Rehab, Therapy Services including PT, OT, and speech, and outpatient radiology, including CT, MRI, X-Ray, and mammogram.
Close at 5 p.m. Tuesday and will be closed on Wednesday. Will reopen at 10 a.m. Thursday, weather permitting.
Dosher Surgical Services
Surgical Services will be closed all day on Wednesday and Thursday. Patients with scheduled appointments will be contacted. If you have questions about your appointment, please call your Dosher provider for further direction.
Hospital Support Services
The following schedule changes apply to Dosher’s healthcare support services, including Medical Records and the Business Office (patient accounts).
Close at 5 p.m. Tuesday and will be closed on Wednesday. Will reopen at 10 a.m. Thursday, weather permitting.
Our Emergency Department and Inpatient Care Services will remain open throughout the duration of the storm and its aftermath.
Additional changes or closures will be communicated as deemed necessary.
University of North Carolina Wilmington
Based on National Weather Service winter weather advisories for Wilmington and the surrounding region, the University of North Carolina Wilmington will be closed through Wednesday. Condition 2 will go into effect for employees at midnight at least through 5 p.m. Wednesday. All classes are cancelled.
The university’s next weather update will be sent by Wednesday afternoon unless conditions warrant earlier notification.
Cape Fear Community College
Cape Fear Community College will shift to remote instruction and operations on Wednesday, due to predicted inclement weather. All CFCC locations will be closed, and all scheduled events will be cancelled.
Additionally, the Bonnie Sanders Burney Child Development Center will be closed for the day.
Town of Caswell Beach
The town of Caswell Beach announces due to weather conditions GFL garbage collection will have a delayed opening on Wednesday to determine the safety of the roadways. If collection is cancelled on Wednesday, GFL will collect on Saturday to make up for Wednesday.
Caswell Beach Town Hall will be closed on Wednesday. Staff will monitor road conditions to determine whether town hall will reopen on Thursday.
Joseph Pierce, town manager, reached out to North Carolina Department of Transportation’s maintenance yard in Brunswick County and requested brine service for Caswell Beach Road, according to a news release. NCDOT told Pierce it would schedule it.
Town of Belville
The Belville ABC Board regular meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed due to impending weather.
The meeting is rescheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Cape Fear Academy
Cape Fear Academy will be closed on Wednesday due to the forecasted severe weather. All after-school activities are also canceled.
Currently, the campus is scheduled to return to normal operations on Thursday. However, this is subject to change depending on weather conditions.
Town of Holden Beach
Holden Beach Town Hall will likely close early on Tuesday, according to the town. Any meetings after 4 p.m. will be postponed.
The approaching winter storm is expected to bring freezing rain and/or snow about 5 p.m. Accumulation of three inches or more is expected. The Holden Beach bridge has been prepped for snow and ice, but it is still possible for it to ice over. If this happens, the bridge is subject to be closed for an extended period of time.
Town of Carolina Beach
In preparation for possible winter precipitation, Carolina Beach town offices and operations will close at noon on Tuesday.
Plans are to re-open all offices and operations at noon on Wednesday, weather conditions permitting.
Brunswick Community College
Due to the threat of severe weather, Brunswick Community College and all campus locations will close Tuesday at 3 p.m. All campuses will also be closed on Wednesday.
This includes the Dinah E. Gore Sports & Aquatics Complex and the Odell Williamson Auditorium.
Classes will move to remote learning where possible.
Town of Leland
Due to the impending weather, all town of Leland facilities, including Town Hall, the Leland Cultural Arts Center, and the Municipal Operations Center, will close at 3 p.m. on Tuesday and remain closed on Wednesday. Town facilities are expected to reopen for normal business hours on Thursday. New Hanover County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board
Due to approaching inclement weather, all New Hanover County ABC stores will close at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Stores will reopen as soon as weather permitting.
Cape Fear Public Utility Authority
The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will be closing for business at 2 p.m. Tuesday and will remain closed all day Wednesday in anticipation of winter weather.
CFPUA will reopen Thursday at 8:30 a.m. weather permitting.
The downtown customer service lobby at the city of Wilmington’s Skyline Center at 929 N. Front St. will be closed all day Tuesday and Wednesday.

Freezing temperatures increase the potential for water mains to leak or break. To report a water or sewer emergency during the closures, call CFPUA’s emergency hotline at 910-332-6565.

Brunswick Regional Water & Sewer H2GO
Due to Inclement Weather, H2GO offices will be closed on Wednesday, and the workshop meeting scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. has been cancelled.
Town of Wrightsville Beach Police Department
“Coffee with a Cop” scheduled for Thursday in Wrightsville Beach has been postponed due to inclement weather. A new date will be determined later.
WIlmington Health
The offices of Wilmington Health will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The offices will reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
New Hanover County Government
- County offices, facilities, parks and the Arboretum will open as normal on Tuesday, then close at noon.
- The regular meeting of the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will take place as scheduled at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
- The Senior Resource Center (Main Site, Castle Hayne, and Carolina Beach Sites) will open Tuesday, with in-person nutrition meals served from 11 a.m. to noon, before closing at noon. (Drive-up meal service will not be available on Tuesday.)
- Public libraries and the Cape Fear Museum will be closed to the public all day Tuesday.
- The landfill will close at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, with tentative plans to reopen no earlier than 1 p.m. on Wednesday, pending road conditions and operational readiness. The Household Hazardous Waste facility will have normal hours on Tuesday (closing at 3 p.m.), but will be closed all day on Wednesday, including the HazWagon at Wrightsville Beach.
- If conditions permit, all county offices, facilities, attractions, and parks will reopen at noon on Wednesday, with the exception of the county landfill, which plans to reopen at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

City of Wilmington Government
- All city offices and buildings will close at noon Tuesday.
- Wilmington City Council will hold its next regular meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, instead of 6:30 p.m.
- The Wilmington Municipal Golf Course will be closed through Thursday.
Brunswick County Government
- All Brunswick County Government offices, libraries and other facilities will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
- All county parks will close at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday until further notice. All youth basketball programs will be canceled Tuesday through Thursday.
- The board of commissioners regular meeting originally scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday has been canceled. The special board of commissioners meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday will continue as scheduled. The board will hold the annual FY 2026 Countywide Goals Workshop during this special meeting.
- The Brunswick County Landfill and Convenience Centers are currently operating on regular schedules. GFL Environmental still plans to collect curbside trash and recycling carts as scheduled on Tuesday. GFL Environmental will open on a delayed schedule on Wednesday to assess road conditions. Town of Carolina Beach Government
- The 2025-26 Budget Open House has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Jan. 28. It will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall.
New Hanover County Schools
- Tuesday will be a remote learning day for students at SEA-Tech, Isaac Bear Early College, Wilmington Early College High School, Codington Elementary, Eaton Elementary, Snipes Academy of Arts and Design, and Freeman School of Engineering.
- All extra curricular activities on Tuesday have been canceled.
- The school district’s career fair and policy committee meeting will proceed as scheduled on Tuesday.
- Tuesday is a designated teacher workday, but district and traditional calendar staff are advised to monitor their email for updates.
Brunswick County Schools
- Tuesday is a required teacher workday, so there is no school for students. All professional development sessions will proceed as scheduled. Brunswick County Early College High School will operate on a regular schedule. All after-school activities, including athletics, are canceled on Tuesday.
- On Wednesday, Brunswick County Schools will implement a remote learning plan for the day. (This includes Brunswick County Early College High School.) All after-school activities, including athletics, are canceled. Classified staff will receive communication from their supervisors regarding specific instructions and options.
Pender County Schools
Due to the National Weather Service warning of the potential for hazardous driving conditions, accumulating snowfall, and extremely cold temperatures, Pender County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Wednesday.
As of now, at minimum, Thursday’s schedule will operate on a two-hour delay.
The district will continue to monitor the weather and make an announcement regarding Thursday’s schedule on Wednesday via the Pender County Schools website, social media platforms as well as email, phone and text messaging.

- Pender County Schools will implement an early release schedule for Tuesday. Families can review the early release schedule by visiting https://www.pender.k12.nc.us/page/school-bell-schedule.
- Additionally, all after-school activities scheduled for Tuesday, including athletics and PACES, will not take place.
- On Wednesday, schools will operate on a two-hour delay at minimum. The district will reassess conditions on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and will provide updates if additional adjustments, including the possibility of remote learning on Wednesday, are necessary.
University of North Carolina Wilmington
- Beginning at 2 p.m. on Tuesday , classes and events are canceled. UNCW plans to follow its normal operating schedule until 2 p.m. Tuesday, when Condition 1 will go into effect for employees.
Cape Fear Community College
- Cape Fear Community College will close at 2 p.m. Tuesday. All classes scheduled after 2 p.m. will transition to remote instruction where possible, and all events after 2 p.m. are canceled.
- The Bonnie Sanders Burney Child Development Center will also close at 2 p.m.
