  • Southeast Michigan school closings: Tuesday closures rolling in amid arctic blast

While many Metro Detroit schools are closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, others are already announcing that they won’t reopen Tuesday due to subzero temperatures

A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for Monroe County, Livingston County, Lapeer County, St. Clair County, Wayne County, Macomb County, Washtenaw County, and Oakland County until noon Wednesday.

Monday’s high will struggle to reach 10 degrees, with wind chills remaining below zero all day. Heading into Tuesday and Wednesday, it will be even colder. Wind chills are forecasted to be between -15 and -15. Some areas could see this number dip as low as -25.

Though there is no hard and fast rule for canceling school, it’s likely schools will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Check the school closings list here.

  • New Hampshire closings and delays: Jan. 20, 2025

Some New Hampshire schools, institutions announce closings, delays Monday morning

Slow going as far as travel is concerned. First thing this morning, snow continuing to pull away and the winds picking up the beginnings of very cold air, coldest air of the season so far moving in. This will last all the way through Thursday morning. Temperatures will start to moderate later this week, so travel impacts still very slow. There this morning, things improving greatly as we go into the afternoon. As *** matter of fact, quick clearing later this morning will help improve roadways going into the afternoon. Just bear in mind temperatures just aren’t going to move all that much. We’ll stay in the teens to over 20s. Winds will start picking up as well. Gusts over 25 miles an hour through the afternoon, and that’s going to add *** certain bite to the air with wind chills in the single digits above and below zero this afternoon. And *** trend that continues into Thursday morning. You notice some moderation trend by later this week, but again, some gusts today over 25 miles an hour and some cold temperatures around tomorrow and into Wednesday and into Thursday morning as well. There is the last of the accumulating snow starting to pull away just before sunrise. Again, quick clearing behind that, setting up. The teens to lower twenties, bear in mind with the wind, it is not going to feel anything close to that through the afternoon. It will be with sunshine across most of the state, nothing more than *** few lingering flurries into the afternoon up through the White Mountains and the Great North Woods. Fair skies tonight, winds will come down overnight and it will be *** lighter breeze for both tomorrow and Wednesday, but again. You’re talking highs mostly in the teens with overnight lows in the single digits above and below zero. That air mass starts to break on Thursday afternoon after another cold start. There’ll be *** front coming through with *** chance of *** few flurries or *** couple of snow showers. Otherwise, this is *** fairly quiet but cold week for us out there. You notice the, uh, feels like temperatures later this afternoon in the single digits and in the single digits in teens below 0 up north. Everyone below 0. Overnight tonight for those wind chill readings again, it’s just *** light wind to go along with the colder temperatures, and you can see you’re talking wind chills basically in the single digits above 0 for the day on Tuesday and more of the same for the day on Wednesday starting below 0 for the wind chills and then climbing into the single digits through the afternoon. Eventually there will be some improvement going forward by the end of the week. That’s with temperatures eventually getting back into the 20s to lower 30s by the weekend.

    Houston Weather Forecast

    Timeline:

Tuesday looks like a snow day. Yes, actually a snow day in the Houston area.

Now, while the exact locations of significant snow are still uncertain, it definitely looks like 2 to 3 inches of snow in the greater Houston area are possible. There will likely be a few spots north of Houston that even see 3, 4 or 5 inches of snow, so it’s pretty exciting stuff.

Unfortunately, that does come with some hazards. Ice may also be mixed in with the snow, and there also is a chance that the snow could be slushy, causing it to briefly melt and then freeze overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, so travel is going to be treacherous all across our area on Tuesday and for the first half of Wednesday.

Beyond that, we’ll continue to have a series of cold mornings, but slightly warmer afternoons, and we’re hoping to get back into the 60s by Saturday.

The Source: Information in this article comes from the FOX 26 weather team and several districts across the Houston area.

    Winter WeatherHoustonHouston ISDWeather

In light of severe weather conditions, Houston ISD, along with several other school districts, have made the decision to close on both Tuesday and Wednesday. This closure is in response to the safety concerns of students and staff as the city braces for inclement weather.

Parents and students are advised to stay tuned to the district’s website and local news stations for updates on when schools will resume normal operations. In the meantime, it is important to stay safe and take necessary precautions during this time.

We understand the inconvenience this may cause for families, but the safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time.
