Report: Marko Milić Leaves Mavericks’ Coaching Staff After Luka Dončić, Lakers Trade | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors
Joe Murphy/NBAE via Getty Images
Luka Dončić isn’t the only one leaving the Dallas Mavericks.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Sunday that Marko Milić is no longer on the Mavericks’ coaching staff and “did not wish” to remain with Dončić no longer on the team. Milić was a notable name as the first Slovenian to play in the NBA, but his time with Dallas is over.
The connection with Dončić was obvious, as the five-time All-Star is also from Slovenia.
Milić spent seven years on the coaching staff of the Basketball Federation of Slovenia before the Mavericks hired him before the 2022-23 campaign. He also played professionally for 21 seasons from 1994 to 2015 with stops in seven different countries (Slovenia, Turkey, Spain, Italy, France, Iran and Kuwait).
He came to the NBA as a second-round pick in the 1997 NBA draft and appeared in 44 games across two different seasons for the Phoenix suns.
Milić was never more than a secondary scorer and averaged 2.5 points and 0.7 rebounds per game while shooting 56 percent from the field.
As for the Mavericks, this is more fallout from a shocking trade.
Dončić appeared well on his way to becoming a franchise legend with a Rookie of the Year, five First-Team All-Pro selections, a scoring title, five All-Star Game nods, an NBA Finals appearance and a Western Conference Finals MVP on his resume through just seven seasons.
Yet they moved him to the Los Angeles Lakers in a trade that landed them 31-year-old Anthony Davis.
While Davis is an excellent player himself, it was still stunning to see Dallas move on from the 25-year-old face of its franchise.
Marko Milić, an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks, has reportedly left the team following the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers.Milić, who joined the Mavericks’ coaching staff in 2018, was known for his strong relationship with Dončić and played a key role in his development as a young star in the NBA. However, with Dončić now heading to the Lakers in exchange for a package of players and draft picks, Milić has decided to part ways with the Mavericks.
The news of Milić’s departure comes as a surprise to many in the basketball world, as he was highly regarded for his coaching acumen and ability to connect with players. It remains to be seen where Milić will land next, but his departure is sure to have an impact on the Mavericks’ coaching staff going forward.
In the meantime, the Mavericks will have to regroup and adjust to life without both Dončić and Milić as they look to move forward and compete in the highly competitive Western Conference.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Gilles Cervara remains head coach for Medvedev, a former world No. 1 who won his first major title at the 2021 US Open.
Since peaking at the top of the ATP rankings in February 2022, the 28-year-old has dealt with numerous patches of injuries and inconsistency and has not won a title since 2023.
Medvedev rang in the 2025 season by welcoming his second child with wife Daria, but suffered a second-round loss at the Australian Open to American teenager Learner Tien.
“When you are 20 years old and you first come onto Tour, you have a lot of fire and you just go for it. You are fearless. When you are 28, nearly 29, it is a bit different,” Medvedev told the ATP website. “The fire still burns in me but it is a different fire. You need to try to keep the fire as the margins are so small, and I have it. When you lose early you just need to look forward because there is more coming.”
Medvedev is the No. 2 seed in Rotterdam behind Carlos Alcaraz, and will play his first match against former world No. 3 Stan Wawrinka.
Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev has confirmed that he has split with his coach Gilles Simon during the Rotterdam Open. The decision comes after a successful partnership that saw Medvedev rise to world No. 1 and win multiple ATP titles. In a statement released to the press, Medvedev thanked Simon for his guidance and support over the past few years. He expressed his gratitude for the impact that Simon had on his game and wished him all the best in his future endeavors.
Medvedev is currently competing in the Rotterdam Open and will be looking to continue his winning ways despite the coaching change. Fans will be eagerly watching to see how this split will affect his performance on the court.

Bears finalize offensive coaching staff by adding offensive line coach Dan Roushar: source
As the Bears rebuild their offensive line, with possibly four new starters coming in for next season, they’re hiring longtime offensive line coach Dan Roushar, a source said.
Roushar was with Tulane the last two seasons and spent a decade with the Saints before that. Much of that time was with current Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, and he overlapped with offensive coordinator Declan Doyle as well.
Roushar, 64, has nearly four decades of coaching experience. He got his start with Butler University in 1986 and was hired as the University of Illinois’ quarterbacks coach in 1995. He also coached at Northern Illinois, University of Cincinnati and Michigan State before joining the Saints in 2013.
That fills out the position coaches on new coach Ben Johnson and Doyle’s staff and would finalize the staff for next season unless Johnson and Doyle create new titles for additional assistants.
The Chicago Bears have officially completed their offensive coaching staff by adding Dan Roushar as the team’s new offensive line coach. Roushar comes to the Bears with a wealth of experience, having previously served as the offensive line coach for the New Orleans Saints.Roushar’s addition to the coaching staff is seen as a major win for the Bears, as he is widely regarded as one of the top offensive line coaches in the NFL. His expertise and leadership are expected to greatly benefit the Bears’ offensive line, which has been a major area of concern in recent years.
With Roushar now on board, the Bears’ offensive coaching staff is now complete and ready to hit the ground running as they prepare for the upcoming season. Fans are hopeful that Roushar’s addition will help bolster the team’s offense and lead to greater success on the field.

New Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll has been on the job for a week now and he is busy putting his staff together.
While he has work to do, Carroll is making progress on filling his staff.
Monday, when he was introduced as the Raiders’ new head coach, Carroll said his 2025 staff would be a combination of former assistants from his 14-season stint as the coach of the Seattle Seahawks, spanning 2010-23, coaches from elsewhere and holdovers from the staff of the fired Antonio Pierce in Las Vegas.
That is what is unfolding.
In two of his three biggest hires, Carroll has kept holdovers as he retained defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and special teams coach Tom McMahon. They are both working with their third head coach and are entering their fourth season in Las Vegas.
Saturday night, another former Pierce assistant, defensive line coach Rob Leonard was retained. There has been speculation cornerbacks coach Ricky Manning Jr could return as well.
Carroll has brought in linebackers coach John Glenn and vice president of coaching operations Matt Capurro from his Seattle days.
Carroll has interviewed Darrell Bevell for the offensive coordinator job. Bevell was Seattle’s offensive coordinator for seven seasons. He is considered the favorite, but Carroll has to comply with the Rooney Rule at offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach so it’s a work in progress.
There is also speculation Carroll could hire Tom Cable as offensive line coach. Cable worked for Carroll in Seattle and has had stints with the Raiders as both the head coach and offensive line coach.
So, Carroll is making progress, but there’s still work to do as he fills his staff.
As the Las Vegas Raiders gear up for the upcoming season, head coach Pete Carroll has been busy assembling his coaching staff. Here are the latest updates on the Raiders’ coaching hires:1. Offensive Coordinator – Carroll has tapped former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron to lead the Raiders’ offense. Waldron brings a wealth of experience and a reputation for innovative play-calling.
2. Defensive Coordinator – The Raiders have also brought in Gus Bradley as their new defensive coordinator. Bradley, who previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers, is known for his aggressive and disciplined defensive schemes.
3. Special Teams Coordinator – In a surprising move, Carroll has hired former New England Patriots special teams coordinator Joe Judge to lead the Raiders’ special teams unit. Judge is widely regarded as one of the top special teams coaches in the league.
4. Position Coaches – The Raiders have also made several other coaching hires, including adding former NFL players DeMarcus Ware and Ed Reed as defensive line and defensive backs coaches, respectively. These hires bring a wealth of playing experience and knowledge to the Raiders’ coaching staff.
Overall, the Raiders’ coaching staff is shaping up to be one of the most experienced and talented in the league. With Carroll at the helm and a roster full of talented players, the Raiders are poised for a successful season ahead. Stay tuned for more updates on the Raiders’ coaching staff as the offseason progresses. #RaidersNews #CoachingStaffUpdates #PeteCarroll

Former Bruins OC Eric Bieniemy drawing NFL coaching interest
Since the end of the 2024 college football season, the UCLA Bruins have made significant changes to their coaching staff as they try to keep pace in the Big Ten.
UCLA’s most notable move to their staff was their decision to cut bait with offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. In one season with the Bruins, Bieniemy struggled to generate a balanced offense and contributed to some of UCLA’s pitfalls in 2024.
But over a month after Bieniemy and the Bruins parted ways in December of 2024, the Bruins’ former offensive coordinator is garnering attention in the NFL.
In a post on X from Fox Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, Bieniemy was a leading candidate in the New England Patriots offensive coordinator search and has “spoken with multiple NFL teams.”
Though there is no word on which teams have expressed interest in the former college and NFL coordinator, as coaching staffs across the league begin to fill out, Bieniemy should be considered a serious candidate for offensive coordinator openings.
Former Bruins offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is generating significant interest from multiple NFL teams for their head coaching vacancies. Bieniemy, who helped lead UCLA’s offense to new heights during his time with the Bruins, has proven himself to be a highly talented and innovative offensive mind. With his track record of success at the college level, it’s no surprise that Bieniemy is now being pursued by NFL teams looking to inject some new energy and creativity into their offenses. His ability to develop and maximize the potential of his players, as well as his strategic play-calling, make him an attractive candidate for teams in need of a fresh perspective.
As the interview process continues and teams weigh their options, it’s clear that Bieniemy’s name will be one to watch as the NFL coaching carousel heats up. Stay tuned for more updates on his potential landing spot in the league.

Ohio State assistant coach Justin Frye to take OL coaching job with Arizona Cardinals
Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye is expected to become the OL coach for the Arizona Cardinals, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed the news.
“Sources: Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye is expected to become the offensive line coach of the Arizona Cardinals,” Thamel wrote on Twitter. “Frye is a veteran OL coach with stops at UCLA, Boston College and Temple. Frye was also offensive coordinator during his time at UCLA under Chip Kelly.”
Frye was the OL coach for the Buckeyes over the last three seasons, culminating in a national championship this season. He began his coaching career in 2007 following his playing days as a tackle at Indiana.
He began with the Hoosiers as a grad assistant for two seasons before becoming a GA at Florida in 2009 and ’10.
Frye got his first OL coaching gig at Temple in 2011, coaching in Philadelphia for two years. He then moved to Boston College in 2013, coaching there for five seasons before landing a gig at UCLA.
After one year (2018) at UCLA, Frye added offensive coordinator responsibilities to his plate the next season and was Kelly’s OC for three years before going to Ohio State.
Justin Frye leaving Ohio State for the NFL
With Fyre joining the Arizona Cardinals staff as the OL coach, Ohio State has a hole to fill. Still, everything’s coming up Buckeyes right now after Ryan Day won his first national title.
Despite that, as Day explained after winning the national championship, it’s important to find happiness outside of on-field results. So, while there’s a lot to be proud of, that’s not where he’s getting his own personal happiness.
“If you define your happiness by the results, then you can find yourself focusing on those things,” Ryan Day said. “I don’t. I’m just as proud of this team no matter what happened. But now the best thing is, again, you get to hear about these guys for the history of college football, and these guys get to go back to the Woody and put their arm around their wife and their kids and say, look what dad did.
“To me, that’s all that matters because that’s why you get into coaching. It isn’t to hoist trophies or make big contracts or anything like that. The reason you get into coaching is to help young men reach their dreams and goals, period. At least that’s what I and our staff are in this thing for.”
Ohio State assistant coach Justin Frye is set to leave the Buckeyes to take on the role of offensive line coach with the Arizona Cardinals. Frye has been a key member of the Ohio State coaching staff for the past two seasons, helping to develop one of the top offensive lines in college football.During his time with the Buckeyes, Frye has worked closely with head coach Ryan Day to shape a dominant offensive line that has paved the way for some of the best rushing attacks in the country. His expertise and leadership will be sorely missed in Columbus, but his opportunity to join an NFL coaching staff is a well-deserved next step in his career.
Frye’s departure is a loss for Ohio State, but it is a big win for the Arizona Cardinals, who are getting a proven and talented coach to lead their offensive line. With Frye at the helm, the Cardinals’ offensive line is sure to benefit from his knowledge and experience, and the team’s offense will be in good hands moving forward.
We wish Justin Frye all the best in his new role with the Arizona Cardinals and thank him for his contributions to the Ohio State program. His impact on the Buckeyes will not be forgotten, and we look forward to seeing what he can accomplish in the NFL.

Patriots QB Drake Maye Discusses New-Look Coaching Staff and the 2025 Season at the Pro Bowl Games
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye checked in from the Pro Bowl with his first public comments on new head coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
Speaking to Sirius XM radio on Friday, the Pro Bowl alternate shared his excitement for the Patriots new-look coaching staff. In his introductory press conference, Vrabel said the Pats quarterback, who is down in Orlando this week at the Pro Bowl Games, was one reason he found the job in New England appealing, calling Maye a “young, dynamic quarterback.”
During his radio interview at the 2025 Pro Bowl Games, Maye said that he’s already been in communication with his new head coach.
“[Vrabel] reached out to me, and we got on the phone. He’s been awesome. Obviously, a guy who’s done it, played in the league, and won a Super Bowl,” Maye told Sirius XM. “You have a respect for what he’s done and seen what he’s done. I think the biggest thing is he’s been a head coach and knows what it’s like. So excited to get up to New England and get things going.”
The 22-year-old starting quarterback was a late addition to the Pro Bowl roster following a promising rookie season. Maye finished his first season as the 17th-ranked quarterback in ESPN’s total QBR metric out of 32 qualified passers (58.6), slightly ahead of fellow rookie QB Bo Nix (56.9) and one spot below Jags QB Trevor Lawrence (59.3). The Pats QB threw for 2,276 passing yards with 17 total touchdowns in 12 starts as a rookie.
Along with sharing his excitement for his new head coach, Maye was also asked about offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels returning to direct New England’s offense. With the Pats top brass spending the last week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Vrabel suggested that McDaniels will add “new trends” to his offense that will also cater the offense to Maye.
“There’s been some growth from the offense over the years, and [McDaniels] has blended that with some of the new trends, but the foundation will remain the same,” Vrabel said. “We’re going to want to do things that maybe they didn’t do with previous quarterbacks here.”
As the head coach stated, Maye has a different skill set than most of the quarterbacks that McDaniels has worked with previously. Mainly, the second-year QB is a dual threat, with the ability to stress defenses with his arm talent and mobility. The hope is that McDaniels will leverage all of Maye’s physical tools against opposing defenses, giving New England’s offense as many ways as possible to move the ball and score points.
“Coach McDaniels, obviously what he’s done and the success he’s had, I’m fortunate to be able to have a guy come in who has done it at a high level and learn from him coaching one of the best ever – the best ever in my opinion — Tom [Brady],” Maye said of his new offensive coordinator.
At the Pro Bowl Games, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye took some time to discuss the team’s new-look coaching staff and the upcoming 2025 season. Maye expressed excitement about working with the new coaches and the fresh perspective they bring to the team.“I’m really looking forward to working with our new coaching staff,” Maye said. “They bring a lot of energy and new ideas to the table, and I think it’s going to be a great opportunity for us to grow and improve as a team.”
Maye also shared his thoughts on the upcoming 2025 season, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to compete at a high level.
“We have a talented group of players and a strong team culture, so I think we have a lot of potential to have a successful season,” Maye said. “I’m excited to see what we can accomplish together.”
As the Pro Bowl Games continue, Maye and the Patriots will be keeping a close eye on the offseason developments and preparing for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the 2025 season. Stay tuned for more updates as the team gears up for another exciting year of football.

Raiders coaching search: Getting to know Pete Carroll hire Matt Capurro
The Las Vegas Raiders have hired Pete Carroll as their new head coach. He is building his new staff. He has reportedly hired Matt Capurro as a vice president of coaching operations.
Seahawks VP of coaching operations Matt Capurro is leaving the team after 15 years to reunite with Pete Carroll and rejoin the Raiders. Was with Carroll at USC in 2009 and in Seattle from ’10-23, and worked for Al Davis in Oakland from ’04-08.
Valuable right-hand man to the HC.
— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) January 31, 2025
Let’s get to know Capurro better:
Last job:
He was the vice president of coaching operations for the Seattle Seahawks from 2010-24.
Experience with Carroll:
Carroll brought Capurro to Seattle after Capurro had a similar role for Carroll at USC in 2009.
Raiders’ experience:
Capurro, a Bay Area native, has Silver and Black in his blood. He was a football operations intern from 1998-2003. Spanning 2004-08, Capurro was the assistant to the head coach for multiple coaches.
What’s his duties:
Capurro is not a coach per se, but he’s a valuable part of the staff. He operates the daily schedule for the head coach and the staff and plans year-round scheduling. The program starts with Capurro.
Why the Raiders would hire him:
His history with both Carroll and the Raiders made this a slam-dunk hire for all involved.
The Raiders coaching search is heating up and one name that has emerged as a potential candidate is current Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. If Carroll were to join the Raiders, one person who could potentially join his coaching staff is Matt Capurro.Matt Capurro has been an assistant coach with the Seahawks since 2010, working closely with Carroll on the defensive side of the ball. Capurro has a strong background in coaching, having previously served as a defensive coordinator at the college level before joining the Seahawks.
Capurro is known for his ability to develop young players and his attention to detail on the defensive side of the ball. He has a strong understanding of Carroll’s defensive philosophy and would be a valuable asset to the Raiders coaching staff.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, the potential pairing of Pete Carroll and Matt Capurro in Oakland is certainly an intriguing one to keep an eye on as the Raiders continue their coaching search. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

Two potential coaching changes for Steelers
There won’t be any sweeping changes to the Steelers’ coaching staff. Mike Tomlin’s not going anywhere. We know that both Arthur Smith and Teryl Austin will be retained in their respective coordinator roles. Both Rooney and Tomlin mentioned changes to the coaching staff, and now there might a couple that could be coming as final decisions are made.
The contracts for defensive line coach Karl Dunbar and outside linebackers coach Denzel Martin have expired and, according to team sources, there’s a significant chance neither coach will be retained.
Regarding Dunbar, moving on from him would be perhaps the most significant move regarding any assistant coach. He’s been the team’s defensive line coach since 2018 and has helped several players reach their greatest potential in Pittsburgh, including Javon Hargrave and Stephon Tuitt, and he works with edge rushers such as T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, Bud Dupree — the list goes on.
From what I’ve been told, the Steelers don’t necessarily have a strong desire to move on from Dunbar. Rather, it’s more likely Dunbar looking for something else, whether it’s another coaching job or something less time consuming. Dunbar’s 57 years old. He’s a well respected coach throughout the league. If he’s available, there will be teams interested in him.
If the Steelers opted to move on from Martin, that’d be a pretty significant move, as well. Outside linebacker is one of the team’s strengths. Martin has also been put in situations to grow, such as accompanying secondary coach Grady Brown to the Senior Bowl two years ago to coach prospects in Mobile, Ala., for the week-long pre-draft event.
If these changes are made, it could also mean quite a bit regarding the general outlook of the team. The last time the Steelers took the field, they were gashed on the ground for 299 rushing yards in the wild-card loss to the Ravens. As one source told me, “That leaves a sour taste in your mouth.” Should Dunbar and the Steelers fail to agree on a new contract and Martin also not be retained, it would give the Steelers a chance to have two new voices for the players up front.
As we learned throughout this week at the Senior Bowl, defensive line will be a priority throughout the draft process. The team invested a lot of time looking at and meeting with the defensive linemen this week, and it just so happens to be a very deep position in this class. Adding one or two young talents to that room along with two new coaches could provide a bit of a reset up front.
Tomlin already left Mobile, so final decisions for the coaching staff should be coming sooner rather than later.
• While I don’t have this completely ironclad, my general feeling from all conversations I’ve had is coaches currently under contract will not be fired. That includes offensive line coach Pat Meyer, who just re-signed with the team last spring. So, coaches with expiring contracts are being discussed whether or not they’ll be retained while coaches under contract seem to be safe. Sounds like business as usual to me.
• Unlike all of the coaches this week, Omar Khan doesn’t do a lot out in the open during Senior Bowl practices. He prefers to stay out of sight. Only saw him a few times throughout Tuesday and Wednesday. Just the way he prefers to work events such as these. But, the meetings with players carry more weight for him at this point anyway. He lets the coaches and scouts do their thing.
• Nothing new yet on the quarterback situation. All I know is the team has had very preliminary talks with both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, but they aren’t close to making that decision just yet. That’s likely the first player decision that’s made, but it’s also a little out of their hands. Both players are unrestricted free agents and have the right to look elsewhere.
• Quarterback is not high up on the Steelers’ radar just yet regarding the draft. One name I’ve heard they’re interested in is Ohio State’s Will Howard. He was supposed to be at the Senior Bowl, but pulled out last week after winning the national championship with the Buckeyes. Had he been here, we might have seen a little bit more interest from the Steelers at quarterback this week, which was very lacking.
• One position to watch throughout the draft process is tight end. No, it’s not a position of need for the Steelers. But, this is a ridiculously good class of tight ends. I’ve heard that from various scouts, and a couple of Steelers people I’ve spoken with this week are also intrigued.
• It’s only a matter of time before the game in Ireland is official. It’s pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point. Some expected it to already be announced by now. But, all of the Ts have to be crossed and Is dotted.
With the Pittsburgh Steelers currently sitting at a disappointing 2-5 record, it’s clear that changes need to be made. Here are two potential coaching changes that could help turn the team’s season around:1. Offensive Coordinator: The Steelers’ offense has struggled to find consistency and scoring opportunities this season. A change at offensive coordinator could bring fresh ideas and play-calling strategies to help spark the offense. Bringing in a new coordinator with a proven track record of success could help jumpstart the team’s scoring and put points on the board.
2. Special Teams Coordinator: The Steelers have had issues on special teams this season, including missed field goals and poor coverage on kickoffs and punts. A new special teams coordinator could help improve these areas and give the team a better chance to win the field position battle in games. By making a change in this coaching position, the Steelers could see improvements in their overall performance on special teams.
Overall, making these coaching changes could provide a much-needed boost for the struggling Steelers and help them turn their season around.
