  • Report: Jerry Jones has spoken informally to Pete Carroll about Cowboys’ head coaching job

The Cowboys’ search for a new head coach could best be described as a soap opera.

Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer may be negotiating to become the 10th head coach of the team, but now comes intriguing and interesting news.

Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports Jones has spoken with former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll regarding the opening. Harris described the conversation “as informal, although the interest is legitimate enough to be reported.”

There are no plans for a formal interview, per Harris.

Jones began the search with a conversation with Colorado coach Deion Sanders that has gone nowhere since.

Seattle assistant Leslie Frazier, former Jets head coach Robert Saleh and Schottenheimer are the only in-person interviews Jones has conducted. Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore had a virtual interview since his team remains in the playoffs.

Schottenheimer worked for Carroll from 2018-20, so it’s possible Jones’ conversation with Carroll was about Schottenheimer. Schottenheimer has spent the past three seasons in Dallas, including serving as offensive coordinator the past two. He did not call the plays under Mike McCarthy.

Carroll, 73, wants to return to the NFL after a year off. He has 18 seasons of NFL head coaching experience and won a Super Bowl in 2013.

Jones’ previous eight hires were familiar faces to Jones and/or previous head coaches. If Schottenheimer is hired, he would follow the hires of Dave Campo and Jason Garrett as coaches on the Cowboys staff who were promoted to head coach.

According to sources close to the Dallas Cowboys organization, team owner Jerry Jones has reportedly reached out informally to Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll about the Cowboys’ head coaching job.

Jones is said to be considering all options as he looks to move on from current head coach Mike McCarthy, who has failed to meet expectations in his first season with the team. Carroll, a seasoned and successful head coach with a Super Bowl win under his belt, could be a top candidate for the job.

While no official offer has been made, the fact that Jones has even spoken to Carroll shows that he is serious about making a change at the head coaching position. It remains to be seen whether Carroll would be interested in leaving Seattle for Dallas, but this development is certainly one to keep an eye on as the Cowboys look to turn their season around.

  • Jets hire Aaron Glenn to end coaching search

The Jets are bringing back one of their own.

The team hired Aaron Glenn to be their 19th head coach on Wednesday, according to multiple reports. Glenn, who was the team’s first-round draft choice in 1994 and played eight seasons for the Jets, spent the past four years as the Lions defensive coordinator.

The Jets zeroed in on Glenn during an extensive search for a head coaching candidate that saw them interview 16 different people. Glenn, 52, emerged as the favorite to get the job after Mike Vrabel decided to take the Patriots job.

Aaron Glenn with the Lions in December 2024. Getty Images

Glenn interviewed for a second time with the Jets on Tuesday in Florham Park. He interviewed virtually with the team on Jan. 9.

Lance Newmark, who knows Glenn from three years together in Detroit, interviewed for the general manager job for a second time on Tuesday.

Newmark spent 26 seasons in Detroit before going to the Commanders last year where he was the assistant general manager under Adam Peters.

Newmark had a virtual interview with the Jets on Jan. 11, two days after Glenn interviewed for the job. That could be a sign that he was recommended by Glenn. It would make sense for the Jets to try to pair two men who have a previous working relationship in the jobs.

Glenn’s defenses in Detroit ranked 29th, 32nd, 19th and 20th in yards allowed per game and 31st, 28th, 23rd and 7th in points allowed. The Lions went 15-2 this season and were the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs despite losing a number of defensive players to injury. The Lions were upset by the Commanders 45-31 on Saturday.

The Jets are not hiring Glenn just for his defensive acumen, though. Glenn is known as a tough coach who is popular with players but also is not shy when holding them accountable. The Jets entered this coaching search prioritizing leadership over everything else.

The biggest question about Glenn now will be who he hires as his offensive coordinator. Glenn said last week that he does not view himself as just a defensive coach.

“Here’s the one thing that I will say about myself, I’m a coach, I just happen to be on defense,” Glenn said. “I understand the offense just as well as a number of people, so if you want to hire me, you’re going to hire a coach, you’re not going to hire a defensive coach. I’m going to talk to the offense just as much as I’m going to talk to the defense.”

The Lions’ surprising loss to Washington accelerated the hiring process. If the Lions had won, the Jets would have been unable to interview Glenn in person until next week.

Glenn was scheduled to interview a second time with the Saints on Wednesday but the Jets made sure that did not happen. Glenn also interviewed with the Jaguars, Raiders and Bears during this hiring cycle.

Glenn began his post-playing career as a scout with the Jets in 2012-13. He then worked as a coach for the Browns and Saints before taking the Lions job under head coach Dan Campbell in 2021.

The Jets are coming off a disappointing 5-12 season that began with high expectations. Jets owner Woody Johnson fired coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start but the move did not change the direction of the team. He fired GM Joe Douglas six weeks later.

Glenn and the new GM will have to decide whether to bring back quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who remains under contract but did not produce the results people expected last season.

There is also a question about whether to bring back wide receiver Davante Adams, who was acquired by trade in the middle of the season.

The answers to those questions will get cleared up in the coming weeks. For now, the Jets have found their new leader and it is a familiar face.

The New York Jets have officially ended their coaching search by hiring former NFL player Aaron Glenn as their new head coach. Glenn, who most recently served as the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, brings a wealth of experience to the team.

With a strong background in defense and a proven track record of developing young players, Glenn is expected to bring a new level of leadership and strategic thinking to the Jets organization. Fans are hopeful that his hiring will bring a fresh perspective to the team and help turn things around for the struggling franchise.

Stay tuned for more updates as Glenn gets settled in his new role and begins to make his mark on the team. Jets fans, get ready for a new era of football with Aaron Glenn at the helm! #Jets #AaronGlenn #NewEra

  • Ben Johnson accepts head coaching job with Chicago Bears

Campbell said the next coordinators could potentially be internal candidates already on staff or candidates possibly outside of the organization. He said he’ll be looking for the right fit in Detroit.

“I think we’ve got guys on staff that I think are more than qualified and would be outstanding in those roles, but that does not mean that I’m not looking outside either,” Campbell said.

“So, I want what I believe is going to be as close to what we have been as possible, and we don’t lose what we’re about and our identity. We’re going to stay true to who we are, and if you’re somebody that doesn’t feel comfortable with that, then no, I don’t – this isn’t the job for you.

“I’m not going to be in a hurry, I’m not in a mad dash. No matter what happens I want to do what’s right by our team and what I believe is going to – those guys will be able to stand in front of that room and command respect and get everybody going in the same direction and will, ultimately, deliver the same message that I’m delivering.”

After an extensive search, the Chicago Bears have announced that Ben Johnson has accepted the position of head coach for the team. Johnson, who previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success to the Bears.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ben Johnson as our new head coach,” said Bears general manager Ryan Pace. “His innovative offensive schemes and strong leadership skills make him the perfect fit to lead our team to success.”

Johnson, known for his aggressive play-calling and ability to develop young talent, is eager to take on the challenge of leading the Bears to a championship. “I am honored to be chosen as the head coach of such a storied franchise,” said Johnson. “I am confident that with hard work and dedication, we can bring a championship back to Chicago.”

Fans are already buzzing with excitement over the hiring of Johnson, and are hopeful that he can bring a new era of success to the Bears. Stay tuned for updates as Johnson begins to make his mark on the team and the city of Chicago.

  • Jacksonville Jaguars coaching search: Losing the optics battle, again

The 2025 NFL head coaching carousel is in full swing with the Chicago Bears snapping up Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, the consensus top coach available for this cycle. The Jacksonville Jaguars missed out on hiring Johnson, who reportedly wanted the Jaguars head coaching position and wanted to work with young quarterback Trevor Lawrence. However, the one thing Johnson did not want to do (according to multiple reports) was work with Trent Baalke.

In the Jaguars’ offseason press conference earlier this month, Baalke and owner Shad Khan met with the media and were both adamant that not cleaning house — despite Khan’s questions of what that phrase actually means — wouldn’t hinder the team’s coaching search. Khan even went so far as to say that if he felt it was going to be an issue and a candidate had a better option for a general manager, he would be open to making changes.

    Obviously not.

The Jaguars are once again losing the battle of optics in the NFL offseason with their fans. The Jaguars fired head coach Doug Pederson after another disappointing season, as they should have, but one very specific move tainted anything else that would be coming. The Jaguars are in the end game of the search for their new head coach in the 2025 NFL offseason and no matter what direction they go, the fact of the matter is it’s always going to be tainted. The optics of whoever they hire is always going to look bad, at least in the immediate, because of one thing in particular.

    General manager Trent Baalke.

When Jaguars owner Shad Khan decided to make the move of firing Pederson at the end of the season, virtually everyone was shocked that the firing of Baalke didn’t follow soon after. Even more surprise swept not just the fanbase, but the NFL as a whole, that not only was Baalke not going to be fired, but he would be heavily involved in the search for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ new head coach. There were reports as early as November during the 2024 season that Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson was the guy for the Jaguars and he wanted the job. As we got to the offseason those reports and rumors, the guy everyone with a coaching vacancy wanted, wanted the Jaguars job.

Could you believe that? Finally, the Jaguars are the apple of someone’s eye. Not just someone, but the guy everyone else says is the best and the guy everyone else wants.

    But they screwed it up.

    Because of Trent Baalke.

The Jaguars are set to meet with Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen, former Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh in person this week for a second round of interviews for their vacant head coaching position. Most believe that the job now, with Johnson out of the mix, Coen’s if he wants it. Personally, I think Coen is a perfectly good hire for what the Jaguars want to accomplish, but because of how the Jaguars have conducted themselves this offseason, it’s going to taint whoever they’re going to hire in the short term.

The Jaguars have once again, in the short term, fumbled the bag.

Their optics on their decision-making processes look like a jumbled mess, once again.

The Jacksonville Jaguars coaching search has once again left fans and analysts scratching their heads, as the team seems to be losing the optics battle in their pursuit of a new head coach.

Despite having a young and promising quarterback in Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars have struggled to attract top coaching talent, with several high-profile candidates reportedly turning down the opportunity to lead the team.

This comes as no surprise to many, as the Jaguars have a history of turmoil and dysfunction within the organization, making it a less-than-desirable destination for many coaches.

With the team now looking to fill their head coaching vacancy once again, it remains to be seen if they will be able to turn things around and finally bring stability and success to the franchise.

As the coaching search continues, the Jaguars will need to work hard to improve their reputation and show potential candidates that they are serious about building a winning team. Otherwise, they may find themselves stuck in a cycle of mediocrity for years to come.

  • Liam Coen withdraws from Jaguars coaching search, will stay with Bucs on new contract

Liam Coen will not be departing the Buccaneers this offseason.

While a report emerged on Tuesday that Tampa Bay was bracing for Coen to depart the franchise to become Jacksonville’s head coach, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Coen has taken himself out of the running for the Jaguars job. Instead, Coen will stay with the Buccaneers on a new contract that will make him one of the NFL’s highest-paid coordinators.

Coen, 39, joined the Buccaneers last offseason and helped make Tampa Bay one of the league’s most effective offenses. The unit finished No. 3 in total yards and No. 4 in points. Tampa Bay was also No. 4 in rushing and No. 3 in passing offense in 2024, helping the club capture a fourth consecutive NFC South title.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 71.4 percent of his throws for 4,500 yards with 41 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. His completion rate, yards, and touchdowns all set new career highs.

If Coen had departed, the Buccaneers would’ve needed a new offensive coordinator for the third straight season. After head coach Todd Bowles fired Byron Leftwich, Dave Canales came in for the 2023 season and was hired after one year to coach the Panthers.

Now, the Buccaneers will have continuity at a key spot on their staff.

But, the Jaguars’ coaching search continues. They have reportedly set second interviews with former Jets head coach Robert Saleh and Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.

After much speculation and anticipation around his potential move to the Jacksonville Jaguars, it has been announced that Liam Coen has decided to withdraw from the coaching search and will be staying with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coen, who currently serves as the Buccaneers’ quarterbacks coach, has reportedly signed a new contract with the team, solidifying his commitment to their coaching staff.

This news comes as a disappointment to many Jaguars fans who had high hopes for Coen potentially joining their team and bringing his expertise to help revitalize their offense. However, it appears that Coen is content with his current position and the opportunity to continue working with the talented players and coaching staff in Tampa Bay.

While the Jaguars will now need to look elsewhere for a new offensive coordinator, the Buccaneers can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they will retain Coen’s valuable contributions to their team. It will be interesting to see how Coen’s decision impacts both teams moving forward, but for now, it seems that he is focused on helping the Buccaneers achieve success in the upcoming season.

  • Jaguars Coaching Search Update: Day 16

The search for the next Jacksonville Jaguars head coach is officially on.

One day after the Jaguars’ season ended with an overtime loss to the Indianapolis Colts to finish the season 4-13, Jaguars owner Shad Khan made the expected move to fire head coach Doug Pederson.

As the Jaguars conduct their search for a new head coach, we will be providing updates each day until they find him.

    Day 16

The Jaguars are all set to speak with Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen today according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. That will make Coen the first of three in-person interviews the Jaguars have scheduled, with Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and former New York Jets head coach set to speak in the following days.

As things stand today, Coen makes the most sense as the Jaguars’ next head coach. Saleh will obviously have a chance to make his case on Friday, and he has been frequently linked to the Jaguars’ job over the last several weeks. And in most cases, where there is smoke, there’s fire.

Still, it would ultimately be surprising if this decision doesn’t come down to Trevor Lawrence and his development. With Ben Johnson now off the board, Coen is the best possible choice the Jaguars are facing when it comes to a coach who can directly have a positive impact on Lawrence’s development.

That is where Saleh and Graham — whom are both well-respected insider the Jaguars’ building — may come up just short. Both coaches are well-liked leaders and obviously are top defensive minds, but the issue is they may not have a clear path on how to help Lawrence moving forward. It would have to start with a home run offensive coordinator hire, though Saleh’s track record in that regard is troubling.

With the Jaguars not permitted to make a hire until after they speak with Graham on Thursday, it would only make sense for the search to stretch all the way to Friday at the least.

Make sure you stay tuned to Jacksonville Jaguars On Sports Illustrated each day as we keep close tabs on which coaches the Jaguars speak with and what it means for their search for Pederson’s replacement.

After 16 days of intense searching, the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching search is still in full swing. As the team looks to find a new leader to guide them to success, several candidates have emerged as front-runners for the job.

One name that has been consistently linked to the Jaguars coaching vacancy is former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson. Known for his Super Bowl-winning experience and offensive acumen, Pederson could bring a winning mentality to Jacksonville.

Another candidate generating buzz is San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. Saleh has been instrumental in the 49ers’ defensive success and could bring a tough and disciplined approach to the Jaguars.

Other potential candidates include former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, and Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

As the Jaguars continue to interview candidates and evaluate their options, fans are eagerly awaiting news of who will be chosen to lead the team next season. Stay tuned for more updates on the Jaguars coaching search.

  • The latest rumors on Ben Johnson’s Chicago Bears coaching staff – NBC Chicago

Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson will be introduced to the media on Wednesday, but he still needs to put together his new staff in the Windy City.

Johnson, 38, will take over the Bears as his first head coaching job after three successful years running the Detroit Lions’ offense, and it seems likely he’ll want to bring some coaches with experience onto his staff.

Here’s how things are currently situated as Johnson looks to put together his coaching staff.

    Offensive Coordinator:

While Johnson will undoubtedly call plays with the Bears, there are rumblings that he could end up bringing over one of his fellow coaches with the Lions to work on his staff in Chicago.

Fox Sports’ Carmen Vitali went on CHGO’s Bears podcast this week and said she would be surprised if Johnson didn’t hire Lions offensive line coach Hank Fraley as his offensive coordinator in Chicago.

Fraley is also considered a contender to become the new offensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks, according to multiple reports, so there may be competition for his services.

Thomas Brown, who was the Bears’ interim offensive coordinator before he was promoted to interim head coach, could potentially join the staff of the New England Patriots if he doesn’t land a job elsewhere, according to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones.

According to reports, Brown had interviewed with the Patriots for their vacant offensive coordinator position before Josh McDaniels landed the job on Tuesday.

    Defensive Coordinator:

The Bears’ defensive coordinator search is still taking shape, but according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a frontrunner for the job could be former New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen.

Before Allen was promoted to head coach of the Saints, his defenses ranked in the top-five in NFL in scoring, according to ESPN.

Eric Washington, who served as Matt Eberflus’ defensive coordinator in Chicago during the 2024 season, has reportedly been interviewed by the Green Bay Packers for their open defensive line coaching position, according to Jones.

    Special Teams Coordinator:

Questions remain over whether the Bears will retain Richard Hightower as their special teams coordinator.

If Hightower isn’t retained by the Bears, Chicago Tribune reporter Brad Biggs has reported that he could end up heading to the Miami Dolphins to work under Mike McDaniel.

Johnson has reportedly been linked to Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi, who was New Orleans’ special teams coordinator before he was promoted after Allen’s firing in Nov. 2024.

The latest rumors on Ben Johnson’s Chicago Bears coaching staff

According to sources close to the Chicago Bears organization, a major shakeup is expected to take place within the coaching staff under new head coach Ben Johnson. Rumors have been swirling about potential changes to key positions on the coaching staff, including offensive and defensive coordinators.

One name that has been floating around as a potential addition to the Bears coaching staff is former NFL head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy, who most recently served as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, is rumored to be in talks with Johnson about potentially joining the Bears as either the offensive coordinator or quarterbacks coach.

Another name that has been mentioned in connection with the Bears coaching staff is former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher. Urlacher, who was a nine-time Pro Bowler and the 2005 Defensive Player of the Year, is rumored to be in consideration for a coaching position on the defensive side of the ball.

While these rumors have not been confirmed by the Chicago Bears organization, they have certainly generated a lot of buzz among fans and analysts alike. It remains to be seen how the coaching staff will ultimately shake out under Ben Johnson, but one thing is for certain – changes are on the horizon for the Chicago Bears. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation continues to develop.

  • Raiders turn page on coaching search after losing out to Bears on Ben Johnson

    On to Plan B.

The Las Vegas Raiders were legitimate contenders to land the hottest available candidate as their next head coach, but former Detriot Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson decided Monday to join the Chicago Bears instead, according to league sources. Raiders minority owner Tom Brady has been working on Johnson since a pregame chat in early November, but Johnson seemingly preferred quarterback Caleb Williams to the nebulous void at that position in Las Vegas.

Brady and controlling owner Mark Davis could’ve offered Johnson a big contract and input on the general manager decision, but they couldn’t really address the biggest question in the NFL these days: What’s the plan at quarterback?

The Raiders don’t have an answer on the roster. Neither Aidan O’Connell nor Gardner Minshew II is ideally suited to be more than a backup in the NFL. The Raiders could attempt to trade for an upgrade such as Geno Smith of the Seattle Seahawks or Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals, but it’s unclear whether players of that caliber would be available. The veteran options set to hit free agency are similarly unattractive.

While the Raiders have the sixth pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, they’re behind three quarterback-needy teams: the Tennessee Titans (No. 1), the Cleveland Browns (No. 2) and the New York Giants (No. 3). There’s a world in which they could still have a shot to land a top prospect such as Miami’s Cam Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, but it’s far from a guarantee.

The uncertainty at quarterback was a major factor in Johnson’s decision to head elsewhere, according to league sources. Williams, the No. 1 pick in last year’s draft, had a solid rookie season with the Bears and has the potential to become one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL. That’s something the Raiders simply couldn’t match.

Now, the Raiders have to turn to their alternatives, and former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is believed to be the Raiders’ top option, according to league sources.   Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is also believed to be a strong candidate, but many around the league expect him to wind up with the New Orleans Saints, the team he played for and coached for, or the New York Jets, who he also played for.

Jed Hughes, who the Raiders have contracted from search firm Korn Ferry to help coordinate their GM and head-coach searches, helped place Carroll with the Seahawks in 2010, so there’s plenty of familiarity there. Carroll will turn 74 next season and would be the oldest head coach in NFL history if he returns to the sidelines, but the Super Bowl XLVIII champion has a strong resume and could still have something left in the tank.

Last week, the Raiders interviewed Carroll, former Jets head coach Robert Saleh and former Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera in person. Saleh and Rivera are diverse, so Las Vegas has satisfied the Rooney Rule and is free to hire a head coach.

There are three other candidates who the Raiders have interviewed virtually: Glenn, Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. The Raiders also plan to interview Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken. The Raiders can set up in-person interviews with Glenn, Joseph and Monken, but they’ll have to wait until the Chiefs are eliminated if they want to talk to Spagnuolo again.

Missing out on Johnson could also alter the Raiders’ plans for hiring a general manager. Commanders assistant GM Lance Newmark has ties to Johnson and Glenn and is a legit candidate — he has also interviewed for the Jets’ GM vacancy.

If the Raiders aren’t going to hire Glenn, though, it could make sense to head in another direction. The Raiders had in-person interviews with Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown and Los Angeles Chargers assistant GM Chad Alexander on Monday. They’ve also done virtual interviews with Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant GM John Spytek, Pittsburgh Steelers director of pro personnel Sheldon White and Green Bay Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan.

Spytek was part of the front office that brought Brady to Tampa Bay in 2020 and was his college teammate at Michigan. He’s now believed to be the front-runner at GM, according to league sources.

NFL coach matchmaking: Deion Sanders a fit in Dallas? Jon Gruden back in the NFL?

Brady played a big role in cultivating Johnson’s interest in the Raiders. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Brady and Johnson recently spent hours on a Zoom call to discuss the job. Brady’s pitch to Johnson was multifaceted.

With the Raiders, Johnson would have had the opportunity to be fully aligned with the next GM. Being able to offer that symmetry played a big role in the Raiders’ decision to fire GM Tom Telesco after just one season. The Raiders have interviewed six GM candidates, but their first in-person sit-down was with Newmark on Sunday. Newmark overlapped with Johnson for four seasons in Detroit, so they had a pre-existing relationship and could’ve come to the Raiders as a package deal.

The Raiders were also prepared to make a substantial financial commitment to Johnson. The franchise was once held back by controlling owner Mark Davis’ lack of liquidity, but that’s no longer the case. Silver Lake CEO Egon Durban and Discovery Land Company chairman Michael Meldman, who each bought 7.5 percent of the team last month, and Knighthead Capital co-founder Tom Wagner, Brady’s business partner, made it clear that money wouldn’t be an issue when it came to courting Johnson, according to league sources. That not only would’ve given Johnson additional job security, but it also would’ve allowed him to be more aggressive in building out his coaching staff and making roster moves.

In the end, the Raiders were done in by the uncertainty at quarterback. For whoever they hire as their next GM and head coach, finding a way to remedy that issue must be the top priority.

It was a disappointing day for the Las Vegas Raiders as they lost out on their top coaching candidate, Ben Johnson, to the Chicago Bears. But now, it’s time for the Raiders to turn the page and focus on finding the right person to lead their team.

The coaching search may not have gone as planned, but there are still plenty of qualified candidates out there who could help the Raiders turn things around. It’s important for the organization to regroup and refocus on finding the right fit for their team.

While losing out on Johnson may be a setback, it’s also an opportunity for the Raiders to reevaluate their options and find the best person for the job. The right coach could make all the difference in turning this team into a contender once again.

So, Raiders fans, don’t lose hope. The coaching search may have hit a snag, but there are still plenty of possibilities out there. Stay tuned for updates on the Raiders’ coaching search as they look to find the right person to lead their team to success.

  • Ron Rivera head coaching rumor is unexpected twist Commanders fans can get behind

Ron Rivera is probably looking on in complete disbelief about what’s unfolding with the Washington Commanders this season. The strides made since firing the head coach represented a breath of fresh air for all involved. Although positive for the franchise, it’s a damning indictment of his four-year tenure before Josh Harris’ ownership group pulled the plug.

After taking a year out, Rivera is looking to get back involved. He’s had three head coaching interviews without getting a second look as yet. This ship might have sailed, but one analyst believes there could be an unexpected twist to come.

Analyst projects Ron Rivera to join Commanders’ bitter division rival

Maurice Moton from The Bleacher Report projected Rivera to become the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. He’s not been interviewed as yet with Jerry Jones focusing on bigger names, but the analyst pointed to the retread hires under his ownership as a reason why this couldn’t be ruled out entirely.

“[Ron] Rivera won a division title in his first season with the then-Washington Football Team. In the following three years, Washington finished third or fourth in the NFC East while struggling to find a franchise quarterback. In Dallas, Rivera wouldn’t have to worry about the quarterback position, with Dak Prescott entrenched as the starter. He could use his expertise to strengthen the Cowboys defense, which gave up the second-most points and fifth-most yards this past season. With the swirling rumors surrounding Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, Rivera would be a conservative option with low buzz. That said, the Cowboys brought in retreads with three of their last four head coaching hires: Mike McCarthy, Wade Phillips and Bill Parcells.”

This is something Commanders fans can get behind.

Rivera couldn’t motivate his players. He couldn’t properly evaluate personnel and made some critical errors with his first-round picks — all of whom are no longer with the Commanders. His inability to adjust in-game or prepare his squad effectively came with complications. The supposed culture he’d built was a mirage.

He’s a good guy who overcame significant personal adversity during his Washington reign. But the game passed him by.

Jones’ handling of team affairs in Dallas is coming in for increased criticism. The Cowboys are already behind in their head coaching search after he took so long to part ways with Mike McCarthy. Leading candidates are already taking jobs elsewhere. The links to Deion Sanders have subsided for now, so there’s just no telling how this is going to play out.

Rivera is experienced, but this would be an underwhelming hire. However, it would allow Jones to be the center of attention as always. That wouldn’t be the case if Sanders got the keys to the kingdom.

That’s all Jones seems to care about. If people are talking about the Cowboys and he’s making money, that suffices despite nothing but perennial underachievement for three decades.

It might (and probably will) come to nothing. But Rivera going to Washington’s bitter division rival wouldn’t exactly leave anybody in D.C. shaking with fear.

If anything, it would have the complete opposite effect.

    More Commanders news and analysis

The Washington Commanders have been the center of attention in the NFL recently, with rumors swirling about potential changes to the coaching staff. One unexpected twist that has caught the attention of fans is the rumor that Ron Rivera could be stepping down as head coach.

While this news may come as a shock to many, it has actually been met with a surprising amount of support from Commanders fans. Rivera, who has been with the team since 2020, has had a tough time turning things around in Washington, with the team struggling to find success on the field.

Many fans believe that a change in leadership could be just what the team needs to get back on track. Rivera has certainly had his moments of success in the NFL, most notably leading the Carolina Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance in 2015. However, some fans feel that a fresh start could be exactly what the Commanders need to finally break through and make a playoff run.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, the rumors surrounding Rivera’s potential departure have sparked excitement and optimism among fans. Whether or not Rivera ultimately decides to step down as head coach, it’s clear that Commanders fans are ready for a change and eager to see what the future holds for their team.

  • Dallas Cowboys coaching search: Who will be the next head coach under Jerry Jones?

After five seasons with Mike McCarthy at the helm, the Dallas Cowboys are on the hunt for a new head coach.

The next head coach will be tasked with succeeding where so many of his predecessors have failed. The Cowboys last won a Super Bowl after the 1995 season under Barry Switzer, who coached the team that Jimmy Johnson built to its third championship in four seasons.

Since Switzer resigned in 1998, six Cowboys coaches have accounted for a total of four playoff wins in 27 seasons that include zero appearances in the Super Bowl or the NFC championship game. Despite that history, expectations will remain high in Dallas with a roster that’s built and paid to win now, featuring high-priced offensive weapons Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb and defensive star Micah Parsons, who’s due for his own lucrative contract extension.

Those expectations will feature not only returning to but winning a Super Bowl in Dallas to bookend the Jones era with at least one more Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The offseason coaching carousel is in full swing with the news that the Chicago Bears are hiring former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, in addition to Mike Vrabel joining the New England Patriots. That leaves the Cowboys as one of five teams still in search of a head coach alongside the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders.

While the other four teams each have a lengthy list of candidate interviews, the Cowboys have officially interviewed just three candidates: former Jets head coach Robert Saleh, former Minnesota Vikings head coach and Seattle Seahawks assistant Leslie Frazier and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who held the same position in Dallas from 2019-22.

They’re also reportedly planning to interview their own offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, according to multiple reports.

The Cowboys are also reportedly tied to other candidates, including former players Deion Sanders and Jason Witten. Witten has won two state championships in four seasons as a high school coach in Texas since retiring in 2020 from a 17-season NFL career as a tight end for the Cowboys and Raiders. He has no coaching experience beyond the high school level.

Sanders played 14 Hall of Fame seasons as an NFL cornerback, including a five-year stint and a Super Bowl championship with the Cowboys. He’s since embarked on a college coaching career that’s taken him from Jackson State to Colorado, where he’s spent the last two seasons coaching the Buffaloes to a 13-12 record.

Schottenheimer has emerged as a betting favorite to secure the job, for whatever that’s worth. Betting lines, of course, don’t necessarily reflect what’s happening in the building. But like Sanders and Witten, Schottenheimer has familiarity with Jones, which historically goes a long way in Jones’ hiring decisions.

The Dallas Cowboys coaching search is heating up as the search for the next head coach under owner Jerry Jones continues. With Jason Garrett officially out as head coach, speculation is swirling about who will be the next leader of America’s Team.

Names like Urban Meyer, Lincoln Riley, and Josh McDaniels have all been floated as potential candidates for the coveted position. Meyer, a three-time national championship-winning coach at the collegiate level, has been rumored to be Jones’ top choice. Riley, the head coach at the University of Oklahoma, has a strong track record of developing quarterbacks and innovative offensive schemes. McDaniels, the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots, has previous head coaching experience with the Denver Broncos.

Whoever takes the reins as the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys will have big shoes to fill, as the expectations for success are always high in Dallas. With a talented roster in place, the new head coach will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact and lead the team back to the promised land of Super Bowl glory.

Stay tuned as the coaching search unfolds and the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys is revealed. Who do you think will be the next leader on the sidelines in Dallas? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. #DallasCowboys #HeadCoachSearch #JerryJones
