  • Sources – Brady Smigiel, No. 36 recruit for ’26, pulls FSU commit

Four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel, ESPN’s No. 36 overall recruit in the class of 2026, has decommitted from Florida State, sources told ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Sunday.

The 6-foot-5 Smigiel, ESPN’s fourth-ranked pocket passer in the 2026 recruiting cycle, initially committed to Florida State in June, picking the Seminoles over Ohio State, Oregon and Washington. He now stands as the No. 2 uncommitted quarterback in the upcoming cycle, trailing only five-star quarterback and former Georgia pledge Jared Curtis (No. 4 overall).

Smigiel’s decommitment comes one day after he received an in-home visit from Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly on Saturday. Michigan, South Carolina, Washington, UCLA and Michigan State also stand among the programs that are expected to be involved in Smigiel’s recruitment moving forward.

A three-year starter at Newbury Park (California) High School, Smigiel led the program to a 14-1 record and a division title this past fall while throwing for 3,521 yards and 49 touchdowns in his junior season. Equipped with a strong arm, standout downfield accuracy and an ability to move within the pocket, Smigiel totaled 7,701 passing yards and 98 touchdowns across his first two high school campaigns in 2022 and 2023.

His exit from coach Mike Norvell’s 2026 class stands as a significant loss for the Seminoles, who lost a total of 10 commitments in the final months of the 2025 cycle, including eight from the ESPN 300. Without Smigiel, Florida State now holds five commitments in the 2026 class, led by ESPN 300 athletes Efrem White (No. 112 overall) and Darryon Williams (No. 244).

Only eight of the 18 quarterbacks ranked in the 2026 ESPN 300 remain uncommitted more than 10 months out from the early signing period.

Sources have revealed that Brady Smigiel, the No. 36 recruit for the class of 2026, has decided to pull his commitment to Florida State University. This unexpected move has shocked many in the recruiting world, as Smigiel was considered a key player for the Seminoles’ future success. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story. #BradySmigiel #FSUcommit #recruitingnews

  • Spurs rookie Stephon Castle, Bulls rookie Matas Buzelis commit to 2025 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, per reports

Two rookies, Stephon Castle of the San Antonio Spurs and Matas Buzelis of the Chicago Bulls, have committed to participate in the Slam Dunk Contest at the NBA’s 2025 All-Star Weekend, according to ESPN.

Castle, the first reported player to enter the 2025 Dunk Contest field, will be the first Spurs player to participate in the Slam Dunk Contest since Greg “Cadillac” Anderson in 1988.

Castle, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, has already thrown down a number of highlight-reel slams. Perhaps most notably, he put two-time All-Defensive center Brook Lopez on a poster during the Spurs’ loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Jan. 8. In addition, Castle has soared for some impressive alley-oops, thrown down a windmill and converted some thrilling dunks in traffic.

His ability to elevate quickly off one or two feet and add power to his dunks has already made him one of the more exciting in-game dunkers. All of those traits should serve him well at All-Star Weekend. Castle’s 25 dunks this season are the most by any point guard, per Basketball-Reference.

Castle is off to a solid start in his rookie season. Through 40 games, he’s averaging 11.6 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Among all rookies he is fourth in scoring and third in assists as his play has helped the Spurs stay in the mix for the playoffs. The Spurs have not made the postseason since 2019.

Buzelis hasn’t had as a big of a role with the Bulls as Castle in San Antonio, but he has shown his explosive finishing ability while averaging just under 13 minutes per game. There is always potential for a highlight reel play whenever the 6-foot-10 Buzelis is on the court. The No. 11 overall pick in the 2024 Draft is averaging 4.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game and will be the first Bulls player to take part in the Dunk Contest since Tyrus Thomas in 2007.

The NBA’s 2025 All-Star Weekend is set for Feb. 14-16 in San Francisco. All-Star Saturday Night and the Slam Dunk Contest will take place on Feb. 15 at Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors

According to recent reports, two promising rookies in the NBA have already set their sights on the 2025 Slam Dunk Contest. Spurs rookie Stephon Castle and Bulls rookie Matas Buzelis are reportedly eager to showcase their high-flying skills on the big stage.

Castle, known for his explosive athleticism and highlight-reel dunks, has already garnered attention for his impressive performances in the G League. The 6’6″ guard has shown incredible leaping ability and creativity around the rim, making him a fan favorite for future dunk contests.

On the other hand, Buzelis, a 6’9″ forward from Lithuania, has turned heads with his smooth shooting stroke and above-the-rim finishes. The Bulls’ rookie has quickly made a name for himself as a versatile scorer and electrifying dunker, making him a contender for the Slam Dunk Contest in the years to come.

Fans can expect an exciting showdown between Castle and Buzelis in the 2025 Slam Dunk Contest, as these two rookies look to leave their mark on the NBA with their jaw-dropping aerial displays. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated event.

Naomi Osaka Scores Big as Aryna Sabalenka Joins Nick Kyrgios to Commit to Her Groundbreaking Player Initiative

Aryna Sabalenka is a force to be reckoned with, and she’s showing no signs of slowing down! After an incredible 2024 that saw her win two Grand Slams and snatch the World No. 1 ranking from Iga Swiatek, the tennis star’s impact is now making waves off the court too. The latest buzz? Sabalenka has joined the exclusive club of elite players under the banner of Naomi Osaka’s venture, Evolve—following in the footsteps of none other than Nick Kyrgios!

The Belarusian tennis sensation is currently enjoying her campaign at Brisbane International and has qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament. She will be facing Mirra Andreeva in the final four and would look forward to boosting her morale ahead of the Australian Open. But ahead of the first Grand Slam of the year, Sabalenka has entered into an agreement with Evolve, stylized as EVOLVE, joining several other tennis entities and becoming one of the biggest WTA names to join Osaka’s endeavor.

Taking to its official Instagram handle on Friday, Evolve announced the remarkable partnership. Captioning the story, it wrote, “Welcome to EVOLVE @arynasabalenka .” Remember, it was in 2022 when Osaka ended her partnership with IMG to launch her own sports agency, Evolve, with her agent Stuart Duguid. Since then, she has managed to work with several iconic players like Nick Kyrgios.

It was in June 2022, when Kyrgios became one of the first tennis players to sign to Osaka’s sports agency. The Japanese tennis star had lauded the Australian sensation back then, saying, “Kyrgios embodies the types of athletes we want to work with at Evolve.” Remember, Osaka’s venture wishes to focus on aspects like brand partnerships, investing, creating athlete-owned businesses, and philanthropy. In the process, it also managed to sign a deal with Jannik Sinner’s girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya, and Tunisian star Ons Jabeur.

Ons is an ideal Evolve client,” Evolve co-founder Duguid said after the partnership. However, Sabalenka’s addition to the agency will help it boost the brand image further given the achievements that the World No. 1 has amassed. And as she inches closer to yet another title in Brisbane, her strength on the courts is only getting stronger. Meanwhile, besides her off-court endeavors, the Belarusian star is equally focused on her campaigns on the courts. And it is probably for this reason, that despite tasting great success, she wishes to continue improving herself.

Aryna Sabalenka opens up on her plans for the 2025 season

Aryna Sabalenka proved her mettle quite strongly in 2024. She managed to remain stoic in the toughest of situations and overcame barriers with determination. But despite putting in graceful efforts, the star player does not want to leave any room for mistakes and wishes to continue improving herself as she steps into a new season.

Speaking about the same to BBC Sports, Sabalenka said, “There are so many things to improve.” Continuing further, she added, “I’m not that good with maybe my game at the net in singles. There is a lot of things to improve in my touch game. Even my serve is not as good as I want it to be, so there is always (elements) to improve.” And it would not be wrong to say that the ongoing campaign is sort of an experiment for her ahead of a motivated run in Melbourne.

The first tournament before the major tournament is the one where you can try it out and see what’s going to work well for you, and what’s not,” Sabalenka said earlier in the interview. As the new season kicks off, Sabalenka is clearly aiming for more than just trophies—she’s cementing herself as a global icon. Now, the question is what’s next for the remarkable Belarusian? Well, only time will tell.

Naomi Osaka Scores Big as Aryna Sabalenka Joins Nick Kyrgios to Commit to Her Groundbreaking Player Initiative

In a move that is shaking up the world of professional tennis, Naomi Osaka has scored big by getting Aryna Sabalenka and Nick Kyrgios to commit to her groundbreaking player initiative. Osaka, who has been a vocal advocate for mental health and social justice issues, launched the initiative to create a platform for players to come together and address important issues facing the sport.

Sabalenka, the world No. 2 in women’s tennis, and Kyrgios, known for his fiery on-court antics and off-court activism, have both pledged their support to Osaka’s initiative. This marks a significant moment in the sport, as top players are starting to take a more active role in shaping the future of tennis.

Osaka’s initiative aims to provide a safe space for players to discuss and address issues such as mental health, diversity and inclusion, and player rights. By bringing together players from different backgrounds and experiences, Osaka hopes to create a more supportive and inclusive environment for all players on tour.

With Sabalenka and Kyrgios on board, Osaka’s initiative is gaining momentum and could potentially lead to positive changes in the sport. Consensus in Data Management: From Distributed Commit to Blockchain

In the world of data management, achieving consensus among multiple parties is crucial for ensuring the integrity and accuracy of data. Traditionally, this has been achieved through techniques such as distributed commit, where each party involved agrees to commit changes to a shared database.

However, with the rise of blockchain technology, there is a new and innovative way to achieve consensus in data management. Blockchain technology utilizes a decentralized network of nodes to validate and record transactions in a secure and transparent manner. This eliminates the need for a central authority to verify transactions, as the network itself acts as the arbiter of truth.

By leveraging blockchain technology, organizations can streamline data management processes, reduce the risk of fraud and errors, and increase transparency and trust among stakeholders. Additionally, blockchain technology enables the creation of smart contracts, which are self-executing contracts with the terms of the agreement directly written into code. This further enhances the efficiency and security of data management processes.

In conclusion, the evolution of consensus mechanisms in data management, from traditional distributed commit to blockchain technology, represents a significant advancement in ensuring data integrity and trustworthiness. By embracing these innovative technologies, organizations can revolutionize their data management practices and unlock new opportunities for growth and innovation.

Consensus In Data Management: From Distributed Commit To Blockchain by Faisal

Consensus in data management is crucial for ensuring the integrity and reliability of data within a system. Traditionally, consensus has been achieved through distributed commit protocols, where all nodes in a network must agree on a transaction before it is considered valid. However, with the rise of blockchain technology, a new method of achieving consensus has emerged.

Blockchain technology utilizes a decentralized network of nodes to reach consensus on the validity of transactions. Through the use of a consensus algorithm, such as Proof of Work or Proof of Stake, nodes work together to validate and add new transactions to the blockchain. This ensures that all nodes in the network have a consistent view of the data, without the need for a central authority.

The shift towards using blockchain for consensus in data management has several advantages. Firstly, it eliminates the need for a trusted third party to validate transactions, reducing the risk of fraud or manipulation. Additionally, blockchain technology provides a transparent and immutable record of all transactions, making it easier to audit and verify the integrity of the data.

Overall, the move towards using blockchain for consensus in data management represents a significant shift in how data is governed and managed. By leveraging the power of decentralized networks, organizations can ensure the integrity and reliability of their data, while also reducing the risk of fraud and manipulation.
