Bryce James, son of NBA superstar LeBron James, commits to Arizona

    CNN
     —

Bryce James, the younger son of basketball legend LeBron James, has committed to the University of Arizona as a member of the Wildcats’ 2025 class.

The 17-year-old made the announcement on Instagram with a photoshopped image of himself playing for the team next to Wildcats head coach Tommy Lloyd, along with the caption “100% committed.”

Bryce’s father, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron, posted the same graphic on Instagram along with the message: “CONGRATULATIONS MAXIMUS!! SO PROUD OF YOU!!!”

Bryce is rated by ESPN scouts as a four-star prospect. He played 14 games last year for his father’s Strive for Greatness program on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League circuit, in which he averaged 6.9 points and 2.2 rebounds. His shooting was 39% from the field and 36.8% from three-point range.

The six-foot-four small forward also had offers from Ohio State and Duquesne, per ESPN. The Dukes, who are coached by LeBron’s close friend and high school teammate Dru Joyce III, made an offer all the way back in the summer of 2022.

Bryce joins Arizona as the second player recruited to the 2025 class, following the arrival of top prospect Dwayne Aristode in October. The Wildcats are reportedly still chasing three top-15 players: Koa Peat, Brayden Burries and Alijah Arenas.

Since making history alongside his father on October 22, Bronny has been assigned to the Lakers' G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.

LeBron’s older son Bronny spent one season with USC in 2023-24, but suffered a cardiac arrest due to a congenital heart defect before the season, which limited him to six starts for the Trojans.

He was selected by the Lakers in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, before he and LeBron became the league’s first father-son duo to feature in a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves in October.

Speculation over LeBron’s future has been rife all season. “To be honest, if I really wanted to, I could probably play this game at a high level, probably about another – weird that I might say it – about another five or seven years if I wanted to,” the four-time league MVP said on Monday, his 40th birthday. “But I’m not going to do that.”

Bryce James, son of NBA superstar LeBron James, commits to Arizona

In a shocking turn of events, Bryce James, the son of basketball icon LeBron James, has decided to commit to the University of Arizona for his collegiate basketball career.

The decision comes as a surprise to many, as Bryce had been heavily recruited by top programs across the country. However, he ultimately chose Arizona for its strong basketball program, impressive facilities, and coaching staff.

Bryce is following in his father’s footsteps as a highly-touted prospect, known for his athleticism, scoring ability, and basketball IQ. With his commitment to Arizona, he is sure to make a significant impact on the college basketball scene.

Fans are already buzzing with excitement at the prospect of seeing Bryce James donning the Arizona Wildcats jersey and showcasing his skills on the court. It’s safe to say that the future looks bright for this young star in the making.

Bryce James, the younger son of LeBron James, has committed to Arizona as part of the Wildcats’ 2025 class.

James made his announcement on Instagram, with the caption “100% committed.”

James, a four-star prospect from Sierra Canyon (California), also held offers from Ohio State and Duquesne. The Dukes were his first offer, extending it back in the summer of 2022, and James took an unofficial visit to Ohio State in the fall of 2023. He also recently took an unofficial visit to Arizona.

In 14 games last spring with the Strive For Greatness grassroots program on the Nike EYBL circuit, James averaged 6.9 points and 2.2 rebounds, shooting 39% from the field and 36.8% from 3-point range in 22.0 minutes per game. He made multiple 3-pointers in seven games, highlighted by a 21-point, six-rebound effort against NightRydas Elite when he shot 5-for-9 from behind the arc.

He played five games with SFG at the Nike Peach Jam, averaging 5.6 points. He again had his best performance against NightRydas Elite, scoring 12 points in 23 minutes.

James was also invited to the USA Basketball under-17 national team training camp last June.

James’ older brother, Bronny, played one season at USC before turning pro. Bronny suffered cardiac arrest during a team workout the summer before his freshman year, impacting his lone season with the Trojans. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of last June’s NBA draft.

Arizona now has two players in its 2025 recruiting class, with James joining top-25 prospect Dwayne Aristode, who committed to the Wildcats in October and put pen to paper during the early signing period. Tommy Lloyd has a trio of high-level targets left in the 2025 class, including Koa Peat (No. 8 in the ESPN 100), Brayden Burries (No. 10) and Alijah Arenas (No. 15), who recently reclassified from 2026 into the senior class.

LeBron James’ youngest son, Bryce James, has officially committed to playing basketball at the University of Arizona. The 17-year-old guard is following in his father’s footsteps and continuing the family’s basketball legacy.

Bryce is a highly touted prospect, known for his elite ball-handling skills, basketball IQ, and scoring ability. He has been playing AAU basketball for years and has garnered attention from top college programs across the country.

LeBron James, who played college basketball at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, has been a vocal supporter of his son’s decision to play for Arizona. He took to social media to express his pride and excitement for Bryce’s future.

Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd is thrilled to have Bryce join the Wildcats’ program and is confident that he will make an immediate impact on the court. With his talent and dedication to the game, Bryce has the potential to become a star player for Arizona and continue to make his family proud.

Wildcats fans are eagerly anticipating Bryce James’ arrival on campus and are looking forward to watching him excel in the Pac-12 conference. Congratulations to Bryce James on his commitment to Arizona – the future is bright for this young basketball star! #BearDown #BryceJames #ArizonaBasketball

  • 4-star cornerback Jakob Weatherspoon commits to Ohio State

4-star cornerback Jakob Weatherspoon commits to Ohio State

The Buckeyes have landed another big commitment for their 2026 recruiting class as cornerback Jakob Weatherspoon from Avon (Ohio) has announced he has picked Ohio State. Weatherspoon made multiple Ohio State visits for the Buckeyes’ games, including versus Indiana and Michigan and has now announced he will play his college football in Columbus, Ohio for Ohio State.

“I love the coaching staff. They’re all great dudes,” Weatherspoon has told Bucknuts. “And it seems like they think highly of me, coach (Tim) Walt(on) and coach (Gerren) DuHart are in touch every day.”

Weatherspoon was offered a scholarship by the Buckeyes on June 5 after an outstanding performance at the Ohio State one-day camp that day.

The 5-foot-11 and 172-pound Weatherspoon has well over a dozen scholarship offers all as a corner. In addition to Ohio State, his offer list includes Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt and Syracuse.

For the Buckeyes, Tim Walton and Gerren DuHart have been recruiting Weatherspoon.

Weatherspoon is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite.  He is the country’s No. 164 overall 2026 prospect, the No. 9 athlete and the No. 7 prospect in Ohio.

It has been a great start to the new year for the Buckeyes as on Wednesday night, Ohio State rolled over Oregon 41-21 in the Rose Bowl to advance to the final four of the college football playoff and a game against Texas, and now the staff lands a huge commitment from one of their top of the board class of 2026 defensive targets.

Weatherspoon is a fast and physical cornerback with very good coverage skills and the ability to jam wide receivers at the line of scrimmage as well as run with them in coverage.  He could play inside or outside corner in college.  Weatherspoon has played safety and cornerback for Avon as well as on offense but has been recruited as a cornerback by the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes want to sign at least three class of 2024 cornerbacks and now have their first in Weatherspoon, who has excelled for one of the top prep football programs in Ohio.

    IMPACT

In landing Weatherspoon, the Buckeyes have again kept one of the state’s top talents at home. And the Buckeyes have beaten out Michigan for a top prospect that the Wolverine coaching staff really wanted.

The commitment of Wetherspoon also kicks off a great recruiting start to the new year and gives Ohio State four commitments now in their 2026 recruiting class.

Weatherspoon is an outstanding cornerback talent that I think can be a two or maybe three-year starter for the Buckeyes and a potential future 1st-round NFL draft choice.  I think he can be a big factor for the Buckeyes by his second year at Ohio State.

Ohio State continues to strengthen its defense with the commitment of 4-star cornerback Jakob Weatherspoon. The highly sought-after recruit announced his decision to join the Buckeyes, adding even more talent to their already impressive roster.

Weatherspoon, known for his speed, agility, and lockdown coverage skills, is expected to make an immediate impact for Ohio State. His commitment is a major win for the Buckeyes, as they look to solidify their defense and compete at the highest level.

Fans are excited to see Weatherspoon in action and are eager to watch him showcase his talents on the field. With his commitment, Ohio State’s defense is shaping up to be one of the best in the country next season.

Congratulations to Jakob Weatherspoon on his commitment to Ohio State. Buckeye Nation is thrilled to have him on board! #GoBuckeyes

Four-star Cornerback Jakob Weatherspoon Commits to Ohio State

And he’s keeping the best in Ohio in Ohio. Four-star in-state cornerback prospect Jakob Weatherspoon committed to Ohio State on Thursday, giving the Buckeyes four commits total and their first cornerback commit in the 2026 cycle.

    The Weatherspoon File

    • Class: 2026
    • Size: 5-10/172
    • Pos: Cornerback
    • School: Avon (Avon, Ohio)
    • Composite Rating: ★★★★
    • Composite Rank: #164 (#9 ATH)

Weatherspoon is the first defensive commit in the 2026 class, joining wide receivers Chris Henry Jr. and Jaeden Ricketts and tight end Corbyn Fordham.

Weatherspoon grew up rooting for the Buckeyes and the Avon product picked up his OSU offer following an impressive recruiting camp performance in June.

“It meant a lot to me being from Ohio and getting an Ohio State offer,” Weatherspoon told Eleven Warriors of his offer. “Honestly, I worked hard for it. They told me I’d have to come to camp and earn an offer, they weren’t just going to hand it to me, so basically all I did this offseason was work to get that offer. When I got it, I was really excited.”

Tim Walton and other OSU staff members were in contact with Weatherspoon nearly every day since then trying to secure his commitment.

“A whole lot of it is what he just does for people and how he puts others before himself,” Weatherspoon said this summer of his conversations with Walton. “It was about him telling us what he actually does instead of what people think, and he was showing us his history and how he’s been connected with Ohio State since 1989, so he knows the school well. He showed us some video calls with former players, a few former players sent some over, so we watched those and got some good chatting in.”

Per 247Sports’ composite rankings, Weatherspoon is the No. 164 overall prospect in the 2026 class. He had a terrific junior season for Avon, helping lead his team to a 16-0 season and a state title.

“I think I’m very dynamic, I have a lot of patience at cornerback,” Weatherspoon said describing his on-field game. “I’ve been working on my footwork all offseason.”

In an exciting announcement for Ohio State football fans, four-star cornerback Jakob Weatherspoon has officially committed to play for the Buckeyes. Weatherspoon, a highly sought-after recruit, chose Ohio State over several other top programs, citing the coaching staff, facilities, and winning tradition as key factors in his decision.

The 6’1″ cornerback out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida is known for his speed, agility, and ball skills, making him a valuable addition to Ohio State’s defense. With his commitment, Weatherspoon joins a talented recruiting class that is already shaping up to be one of the best in the nation.

Buckeye Nation is buzzing with excitement over Weatherspoon’s decision, and fans are eager to see him take the field in scarlet and gray. Congratulations to Jakob Weatherspoon on his commitment to Ohio State – we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes on the field for the Buckeyes! #GoBuckeyes

  • Junior Pan Pac Finalist Harrison Smith Commits To Arizona State University (2025)

Junior Pan Pac Finalist Harrison Smith Commits To Arizona State University (2025)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Junior Pan Pac finalist Harrison Smith has committed to Arizona State University’s class of 2029. Smith signed with the Sun Devils in November and will arrive on campus in the fall of 2025.

Smith trains with TSM Aquatics in California but represents Canada internationally. This summer, he was part of the Canadian roster for the 2024 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, helping the country have its best-ever performance at the championships. Smith made two ‘A’ finals at the meet; he finished eighth in the 200 IM and qualified fifth in the 200 fly before getting disqualified in the final.

Back in yards for his senior season, Smith has continued to find success. He swam lifetime bests in three events this month at the Winter Junior Championships —West, including lowering his 200-yard butterfly best twice in one day and finishing fifth overall in the event (1:45.71). The 200 butterfly was his highest finish in Austin, but he also made the ‘B’ final of the 500 freestyle, where he swam a lifetime best 4:22.03 for 11th place.

After Winter Juniors, Smith won the 200 backstroke in a lifetime best 1:46.64 at the CA/NV Speedo Winter Sectionals. He finished third in the 1650 freestyle (15:19.89, PB) and 400 IM (3:50.14, PB), as well as sixth in the 100 freestyle (45.58) at the same meet.

    Best Times (SCY):

    • 500 freestyle: 4:22.03
    • 1000 freestyle: 9:17.27 (not an official NCAA DI event)
    • 1650 freestyle: 15:19.89
    • 200 butterfly: 1:45.71
    • 400 IM: 3:50.14

Smith will have a range of options for which events he chooses to pursue in collegiate swimming and will likely choose some combination of 200s of stroke, IM, and distance freestyle. His current lifetime nests will help round out the Sun Devils’ depth in those disciplines as the team looks to maintain their place at the top of the NCAA.

Arizona State is currently in its first year in the Big 12 conference and is aiming to establish itself as the new superpower in the conference as Texas has departed for the SEC. When Smith arrives on campus, the team will have been to its first Big 12 conference meet. Smith’s current lifetime bests would’ve earned ‘A’ final appearances in the 500 freestyle, 200 butterfly, and 400 IM, and his 1650 freestyle best would’ve earned a top-five finish at the 2024 Big 12 Conference Championships.

Smith joins Noah MudaduAli SayedJack TroyHayden HakesHudson Evans, Jonathan Gur Itzhaki, and Seth Crow as a member of ASU’s class of 2029.

Oregon LB transfer Emar’rion Winston commits to Baylor

Former Oregon linebacker Emar’rion Winston is heading to the Big 12. Winston has committed to Baylor, he announced Monday afternoon on Instagram.

Emar’rion Winston is heading to Baylor after spending three seasons at Oregon. This past year, he tallied eight tackles for the Ducks, while appearing in all 13 games. He entered the transfer portal on Dec. 13.

Prior to coming to Oregon, Emar’rion Winston attended Central Catholic High in Portland, Oregon. He was ranked as a three-star recruit and the No. 44 EDGE in the country in the class of 2022, per the On3 Industry Rankings.

As a true freshman in 2022, Emar’rion Winston appeared in three games while redshirting. He then saw his role increase greatly for the 2023 season.

That year, Winston played in all 14 games and started the opener for the Ducks. He finished the 2023 season with 19 tackles, one tackle for loss and a pass breakup.

Winston once again played in every game this season, prior to entering the transfer portal. He will look to have a bigger role on the Baylor defense in 2025 than he had with Oregon this year.

The Ducks are currently in the College Football Playoff and will face Ohio State in a quarterfinal game on Wednesday.
