  • Jhon Durán completes move to Al Nassr from Aston Villa

Jhon Durán has completed his transfer from Aston Villa to Al Nassr as the Saudi Pro League side bolstered their forward line for the second half of the season.

Durán’s form at Villa had seen him garner considerable attention from clubs in Europe and beyond, and the signing is seen as a coup for Stefano Pioli’s team, who already boast Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mané among their ranks.

The 21-year-old has scored 12 goals in 29 games this season for Villa, including memorable long-range strikes against Everton in the Premier League and Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Durán joined the midlands club from Chicago Fire for £18m ($22.3m) in January 2023 but has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Villa Park as Ollie Watkins‘ presence in the forward line kept him out of the team on a regular basis.

Wakins has also been linked with a move away from Villa in January but the Colombia international’s exit means that Watkins is likely to stay with Unai Emery’s team, with sources telling ESPN on Wednesday that the club had rejected a bid from Arsenal for his services.

Durán was an unused substitute in Villa’s Champions League win over Celtic on Wednesday which secured their eighth-place finish and a spot in the round of 16.

“Everyone at Aston Villa would like to wish Jhon all the best in the next step of his professional career,” Villa said in a statement.

Meanwhile, sources have told ESPN that Villa are interested in signing Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford before the transfer deadline.

Al Nassr have struggled to compete at the highest level in the Saudi Pro League this season, sitting fourth in the table and eight points off top despite the exploits of Ronaldo, who has scored a division-high 14 goals in 17 games.

Jhon Durán, the talented midfielder, has completed his move to Al Nassr from Aston Villa. The transfer was confirmed today, after weeks of negotiations between the two clubs.

Durán, who has been a key player for Aston Villa in recent seasons, expressed his excitement about the move, stating that he is looking forward to the new challenge and is eager to contribute to Al Nassr’s success.

The 26-year-old Colombian has impressed fans and critics alike with his skillful playmaking abilities and his eye for goal. His addition to the Al Nassr squad is expected to bolster their midfield and provide a creative spark to the team.

Fans of both clubs are eagerly anticipating Durán’s debut for Al Nassr and are hopeful that he will make a significant impact on the team’s performance in the upcoming season. We wish Jhon Durán all the best in his new adventure with Al Nassr!

Aston Villa striker, Fabio Duran, has completed his medical ahead of a proposed move to Al Nassr, according to reports.

The 24-year-old Brazilian has been linked with a move away from Villa Park this summer, and it looks like a deal with the Saudi Arabian club is now close to being finalized.

Duran joined Villa from Corinthians in 2019 and has since struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in the Premier League. However, his impressive performances in the recent months have caught the eye of Al Nassr, who are keen to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season.

The completion of Duran’s medical is a significant step towards the transfer being completed, and it is expected that an official announcement will be made in the coming days.

Villa fans will be sad to see Duran leave, but they will wish him all the best in his new adventure with Al Nassr.

  • Miguel Almiron completes transfer to Atlanta United from Newcastle United

Atlanta United has completed the signing of Miguel Almiron from Newcastle United.

The Athletic reported on January 15 the MLS side had tabled a bid worth £11million ($13.5m) for the 30-year-old Paraguayan who will return to Atlanta six years after he left the club to join Newcastle.

He has signed a contract through to 2027 with the option for a further year.

Almiron played 70 times for Atlanta during a two-season spell in the United States and was part of the side that lifted the MLS Cup in 2018.

The Paraguay forward joined Newcastle in 2019 for around £20million, which at the time was a record fee for MLS, and initially struggled to make his mark at St James’ Park, scoring just three Premier League goals across his first three years on Tyneside.

He enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2022-23, scoring 11 times in the league to help Eddie Howe’s side to a fourth-placed finish and Champions League qualification. This term, he has been limited to just four starts in all competitions amid the resurgence of Jacob Murphy, who has become Howe’s preferred option on the right side of attack.

“On behalf of the club, I want to thank Miggy for everything he has given us during our time together,” said Howe.

“He has been the ultimate professional, and he has been a big part of some of our most memorable moments in recent seasons. He is a great person and we’ll miss him greatly, but this is the right move at the right time for him and his family and we wish them well.”

What does Almiron’s return mean for Atlanta and MLS?

    Analysis by Felipe Cardenas

Almiron became an international star during his previous two-year stint in Atlanta. He was the club’s first designated player in 2017 and a key part of Atlanta United’s 2018 MLS Cup title run.

Despite constantly battling for a starting position during his time in the Premier League, he remains an important player with his national team, and 2026 World Cup qualification is a real possibility for the South American side. He’ll now return to MLS as a more mature footballer, hardened by the Premier League game and by unfulfilled expectations.

Almiron’s homecoming in Atlanta coincides with the club’s intention to become an MLS title contender in 2025. After winning the MLS Cup final in 2018, Atlanta United has since struggled to win on a consistent basis. The club’s front office was overhauled after former president Darren Eales left Atlanta to become Newcastle’s chief executive officer in 2021. He was replaced by former Seattle Sounders general manager Garth Lagerwey, who was given the CEO title in Atlanta.

Former Inter Miami sporting director Chris Henderson joined Atlanta as its new chief soccer officer in December. Henderson’s hire was followed by the appointment of Ronny Deila as head coach. Almiron is expected to be one of several new signings for Atlanta this winter. The club is in negotiations to sign Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath.

In 68 matches for Atlanta from 2017 to 2019, Almiron contributed 22 goals and 30 assists. During that time he was one of MLS’s most recognizable players, along with his strike partner Josef Martinez. Under manager Tata Martino (who resigned as Inter Miami’s head coach in 2024), Almiron and Martinez broke out as stars in North America. Martino built a fast-paced transition style of play around the two South Americans that took the league by storm and inspired the city of Atlanta.

Almiron’s return will receive plenty of attention stateside. How quickly he adapts to his new teammates, and to the weight of being a star man after years as a supporting actor at Newcastle, will be fascinating to watch.

How did we get here with Almiron and Newcastle?

Analysis by Newcastle writer Chris Waugh

Newcastle fans will wish Almiron only a fond farewell, recognising that the Paraguay international was an important player during a period of much upheaval.

But the 11-goal 2022-23 Premier League campaign was the exception when it came to end product for Almiron. Only 12 goals were spread across the six other seasons and, for all his endeavour and energy, decision-making in the final third was always a shortcoming.

    (Eddie Keogh/Getty Images)

Regardless, Eddie Howe extracted huge improvement from Almiron and, for more than two years, he was first-choice right-winger. However, he has played only 157 Premier League minutes this season and there is an acceptance from all parties his time on Tyneside had reached a natural conclusion. Perhaps it should even have come sooner, given Almiron had been available for sale for the past year.

However, with Harvey Barnes currently injured, many Newcastle fans are questioning the logic of allowing a forward to leave given the dearth of attacking depth.

Yet profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) mean a sale of some form is essential and, with Almiron deemed expendable, Newcastle have picked up a reasonable fee for him. It does represent a risk, should injuries afflict their forwards, though.

Miguel Almiron completes transfer to Atlanta United from Newcastle United

Exciting news for Atlanta United fans as the club has officially announced the signing of midfielder Miguel Almiron from Newcastle United. The Paraguayan international has been a standout player in the Premier League and his arrival is sure to bolster Atlanta’s midfield.

Almiron, who joined Newcastle United in 2019, is known for his pace, creativity, and goal-scoring ability. He was a key player for the Magpies during his time in England, but has now decided to make the move back to Major League Soccer.

Atlanta United fans are thrilled to welcome Almiron back to the club, where he previously played from 2017 to 2018. His dynamic playing style and ability to create chances will undoubtedly be a huge asset to the team as they look to compete for the MLS Cup once again.

Stay tuned for more updates on Miguel Almiron’s debut for Atlanta United and how he will make an impact on the team’s performance in the upcoming season. Welcome back, Miguel! #ATLUTD #MiguelAlmiron

  • Novo Nordisk successfully completes phase 1b/2a trial with subcutaneous amycretin in people with overweight or obesity

    Novo Nordisk A/S
    Novo Nordisk A/S

Bagsværd, Denmark, 24 January 2025 – Novo Nordisk today announced topline results from a phase 1b/2a clinical trial with amycretin, a unimolecular GLP-1 and amylin receptor agonist intended for once weekly subcutaneous administration.

The trial investigated the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and proof-of-concept after once-weekly subcutaneous administrations of amycretin in 125 people with overweight or obesity. The trial was a combined single ascending dose, multiple ascending dose and dose-response trial investigating three different maintenance doses with a total treatment duration of up to 36 weeks.

The primary endpoint was treatment emergent adverse events. The safety profile of amycretin was consistent with incretin-based therapies. The most common adverse events with amycretin were gastrointestinal and the vast majority were mild to moderate in severity.

When evaluating the effects of treatment if all people adhered to treatment1 from a mean baseline body weight of 92.7 kg, people treated with amycretin achieved an estimated body weight loss of 9.7% on 1.25mg (20 weeks), 16.2% on 5mg (28 weeks) and 22.0% on 20mg (36 weeks). People treated with placebo experienced an estimated 1.9%, 2.3% and 2.0% body weight gain, respectively.

“We are very encouraged by the subcutaneous phase 1b/2a results for amycretin in people living with overweight or obesity,” said Martin Lange, executive vice president for Development at Novo Nordisk. “The results seen in the trial support the weight lowering potential of this novel unimolecular GLP-1 and amylin receptor agonist, amycretin, that we have previously seen with the oral formulation.”

Based on the results, Novo Nordisk is now planning further clinical development of amycretin in adults with overweight or obesity.

    About amycretin
Amycretin is a unimolecular long-acting GLP-1 and amylin receptor agonist under development by Novo Nordisk, to provide an efficacious and convenient treatment for adults with overweight or obesity and as a treatment for adults with type 2 diabetes. Amycretin is developed for oral and subcutaneous administration.

About the Phase 1b/2a subcutaneous amycretin trial
The trial was a randomised, placebo-controlled and double-blinded study assessing the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and proof-of-concept after subcutaneous administration of amycretin in people with overweight or obesity. The trial was conducted in 5 parts: A single ascending dose (Part A) for determination of pharmacokinetics and starting dose for the first multiple dose cohort in which the safety and tolerability were explored using dose escalation until 36 weeks of total treatment duration (Part B). Lastly, in the proof-of-concept part, body weight loss was explored for up to 36 weeks of dosing by escalating to dose levels of 1.25 mg, 5 mg, and 20 mg, respectively, dosed for 12 weeks (Part E, D and C).

Novo Nordisk, a leading global healthcare company, has announced the successful completion of a phase 1b/2a trial with their innovative subcutaneous amycretin treatment in individuals with overweight or obesity.

Amycretin is a novel compound that targets key mechanisms involved in weight regulation, offering a promising new approach to tackling the growing global epidemic of obesity. The trial results have shown encouraging efficacy and safety profiles, paving the way for further development of this potential game-changing therapy.

The successful completion of this trial marks an important milestone for Novo Nordisk in their mission to provide innovative solutions for individuals struggling with overweight or obesity. With obesity rates on the rise worldwide, the need for effective and safe treatments has never been more urgent.

Novo Nordisk remains committed to advancing research and development in the field of obesity management, and looks forward to bringing amycretin one step closer to becoming a reality for patients in need. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the fight against obesity.

  • Giants AGM Brandon Brown Completes In-person Interview with Raiders

JAN. 21: BRANDON BROWN COMPLETES IN-PERSON INTERVIEW WITH RAIDERS. New York Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown completed his in-person interview for the Las Vegas Raiders general manager vacancy on Monday, per CBS insider Jonathan Jones.

Brown previously had a virtual interview with the Raiders, who are conducting a thorough search for a head coach and a general manager after moving on from Antonio Pierce and Tom Telsco, respectively, in those roles.

Brown has been with the Giants since 2022, hired shortly after Joe Schoen was announced as its general manager.

JAN. 20. MIKE KAFKA GETS SECOND INTERVIEW FOR SAINTS HC JOB.  New York Giants assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Mike Kafka is getting a second interview with the New Orleans Saints for their head coaching vacancy, NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero reported.

Kafka, who completed a virtual interview with the Saints earlier this month, is headed to New Orleans to discuss the position and his vision for the franchise in more detail.

Kafka has been sought after for previous head coaching vacancies. In 2022, he was reportedly a finalist for the Arizona Carindlas job that went to Jonathan Gannon. During that cycle, Kafka also reportedly drew interest from Carolina and Indianapolis.

Last year, Kafka reportedly had interest from Seattle for their head coaching vacancy that went to Mike Macdonald. After hiring Macdonald, the Seahawks were also said to have wanted to speak with Kafka about their offensive coordinator role, but the Giants blocked that request.

Instead, the Giants, who stripped Kafka of the play-calling duties this year, reportedly gave him a pay raise and added the “assistant head coach” role to his job duties.

In the process, Kafka also received at least another year on his contract, confirming to reporters earlier this month that he was under contract with the team for the 2025 campaign.

JAN. 18. REPORT: GIANTS AGM BRANDON BROWN TO INTERVIEW IN-PERSON WITH RAIDERS ON MONDAY. New York Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown, who reportedly has been sought by the Las Vegas Raiders for their vacant general manager position, is scheduled to have an in-person interview with the Raiders on Monday, according to FOX Sports insider Jordan Schultz.

Schultz added that Brown already had a virtual interview with the Raiders.

The Raiders, who have been conducting their head coach and general manager search simultaneously after dismissing Antonio Pierce and Tom Telesco from their respective posts, have cast a wide net for the general manager position.

Among the candidates they have reportedly met with or have expressed interest in speaking with for the general manager post are Jon-Eric Sullivan (Packers), Jon Spytek (Bucs), Sheldon White (Steelers, also a one-time Giants defensive back), and Chad Alexander (Chargers).

Unlike some other teams currently conducting general manager and/or head coaching searches, the Raiders have not confirmed whom they have spoken with for either of their openings.

JAN. 17. REPORT: GIANTS EYEING JETS ASSISTANT COACH TO FILL D-BACKS COACHING ROLE. The New York Giants, who this week parted ways with defensive backs coaches Jerome Henderson and safeties coach Michael Treir, are reportedly interested in speaking with New York Jets safeties coach Marquand Manuel to fill one of those vacancies.

Manuel, 45 years old, is a former NFL defensive back, having entered the league in 2002 with the Cincinnati Bengals, who selected him in the sixth round of that year’s draft.

Manuel also played for Seattle, Green Bay, Carolina, Denver and Detroit before finally calling it a career after the 2009 season.

He began his coaching career as an intern with Florida, his alma mater, in 2011. From there he went to the NFL, making spots with Seattle (with whom he was part of a Super Bowl championship), Atlanta, Philadelphia, and the Jets, with whom he’s been since the 2021 season.

As a player, Manuel appeared in 116 games with 58 starts. He logged 368 tackles, two quarterback hits, one sack, 16 pass breakups, two interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.

Manuel served as the Falcons defensive coordinator under head coach Dan Quinn during the 2017-2018 seasons.

JAN. 15. GIANTS QUIETLY TWEAKING S&C, ASSISTANT COACHING STAFF. The New York Giants might not be making any significant changes among their coaching staff, but that doesn’t mean some moves haven’t already occurred.

According to the team’s website, defensive assistant Ben Burress, director of strength and conditioning Frank Piraino, and director of sports and performance nutrition Steve Smith are no longer listed in their respective roles.

Burress as an offensive assistant. He then spent the next three seasons as a football data and innovation research analyst before returning to a more coaching role, this time as a defensive assistant, in 2023, a role he also held last year.

Burress temporarily replaced outside linebacker Charlie Bullen earlier in the season when he was sidelined after suffering a broken leg that required surgery. Bullen didn’t make the trip to the team’s Week 2 game against Washington, so Burress served as the outside linebackers coach in his place.

Burress is reportedly taking an offensive assistant role with the University of South Carolina.

Piraino, hired last year after five seasons with the Titans and then head coach Mike Vrabel, is reportedly joining Vrabel in New England in a similar role.

Smith was hired by the Giants in 2020 after Pratik Patel, the team’s previous director of nutrition and assistant strength and conditioning coach, left the organization. It’s unclear if he has another role lined up at this time.

JAN.13: GIANTS LOSE KEY FRONT OFFICE EXECUTIVE TO PATRIOTS. As Charles Robinson of Yahoo first reported over the weekend and confirmed by SI’s own Albert Breer, New York Giants executive advisor to the general manager Ryan Cowden is joining Mike Vrabel with the New England Patriots.

Cowden, who worked with Vrabel in Tennessee with the Titans, interviewed with the Giants in 2022 for their general manager position that ultimately went to Joe Schoen.

Schoen hired Cowden in 2023 to serve as an advisor.

During his time with the Titans (2016 to 2022), Cowden served as director of player personnel, vice president of player personnel, and interim general manager in 2022.

Before working with the Titans, Cowden and Schoen were colleagues in the Carolina Panthers scouting department.

Cowden’s new position with the Patriots isn’t yet known. He will work under Eliot Wolf, the Patriots’ executive vice president of player personnel, who is believed to be the highest-ranking personnel figure in the Patriots organization.

JAN. 7. GIANTS CO-OWNER JOHN MARA HAS SURPRISING REACTION TO SAQUON BARKELY’S SLEEP-AID AD. New York Giants co-owner John Mara wasn’t too happy with the new Unisom sleep-aid ad done by former running back Saquon Barkley, but not for the reason you think.

The ad, which thinly referenced Mara’s now-viral comments about not being able to sleep at night if Barkley signed with the Eagles, appeared on the running back’s Instagram account a couple of days ago. (Barkley had the script re-written as he reportedly felt the original version cut too close to the bone.)

Mara, the uncle to actresses Kate Mara (House of Cards, We Are Marshall) and Rooney Mara (The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo), didn’t seem to mind the reference from Barkley in the ad, but he did take some playful offense that he wasn’t invited to participate in the ad, telling reporters, “There’s an acting gene in my family; it’s not just my nieces.”

JAN. 6: MIKE KAFKA DRAWS INTERVIEW REQUEST FROM BEARS, SAINTS. According to the NFL Network, the Chicago Bears have requested the New York Giants’ permission to interview assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Mike Kafka for their head coaching vacancy.

Kafka, a Chicago area native and former NFL quarterback, played high school football at St. Rita in Chicago and college football at Northwestern University.

In addition to the Bears, The New Orleans Saints have also requested permission to speak to KAfka about their head coaching vacancy, reports NFL insider Josina Anderson.

A 2010 fourth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles, Kafka has been steadily in demand for head coaching vacancies, even though the last two seasons have seen the Giants’ offense hover at or near the bottom of the league in every major statistical category.

Kafka had the play-calling duties taken away from him at times in 2023 before losing it altogether in 2024 when head coach Brian Daboll elected to take on the responsibilities himself.

Under Daboll, however, the Giants’ offense was no better and, in some categories, even worse. In his discussion with team president and COO John Mara, the topic of play calling was one that Mara said was discussed and one that Daboll said he would rethink moving forward.

Next. John Mara on Why Daboll, Schoen Stay. John Mara Explains Why Giants are Sticking with Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen. dark

Kafka, who told reporters last week that he was under contract to the team for 2025 and that he didn’t want to speculate about his future, had an opportunity to interview for a lateral move last offseason with the Seahawks after missing out on head coaching jobs, but the Giants denied permission.

Seattle ended up hiring Ryan Grubb as its offensive coordinator, whom they fired on Monday after the Seahawks failed to make the postseason.

JAN. 3: SAQUON PLAYFULLY TROLLS GIANTS IN NEW AD. Former New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley has a solution for anyone who bleeds Giants blue and might still be having sleepless nights about his joining the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason.

At least that’s what he admits to in a new commercial for Unisom, which Barkley posted on his Instagram account.

As is now known, Barkley, who obviosuly didn’t write the commerical or the jingle, not only signed with the Eagles, but he posted a career-best 2,000-yard rushing campaign, coming up just 101 yards shy of breaking the NFL single-season rushing record set by Eric Dickerson in 1984.

Meanwhile, the Giants saw their 100th season implode thanks to inconsistent quarterback play, injuries, questionable coaching, and, some would argue, Barkley’s deflection to the Eagles.

So Barkley’s solution for anyone still losing sleep over his signing with the 2024 NFC East Champs is to try the over-the-counter product.

“I heard some of you were having trouble sleeping, so I wrote you a lullaby,” said Barkley.

“Rockabye baby awake in your bed as the thought of 2,000 swirls in your head. It sure is tough to lose sleep over football; not for me, though. Goodnight to you all.”

    And if that didn’t work?

“Try counting sheep,” Barkley said, as images of lambs with his face superimposed on the animal’s head repeatedly jump over a fence.

Barkley is not expected to play in the Eagles’ Week 18 regular-season finale when Philadelphia hosts the Giants.

The San Francisco Giants Assistant General Manager, Brandon Brown, recently completed an in-person interview with the Las Vegas Raiders for their vacant General Manager position. Brown, who has been with the Giants organization for over a decade, is highly regarded for his expertise in player development and analytics.

The Raiders are looking to fill the position after the departure of former GM Mike Mayock. Brown’s interview with the Raiders is a testament to his reputation within the industry and his potential as a future front office leader.

While Brown remains committed to the Giants, this interview represents a significant opportunity for him to potentially take on a new challenge in the NFL. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

  • SpaceX completes 400th Falcon booster landing on mission featuring 27 Starlink satellites – Spaceflight Now

SpaceX’s Falcon 9 first stage booster, tail number B1082, touches down on the droneship, ‘Of Course I Still Love You,’ a little more than eight minutes after liftoff. This was the 400th landing of an orbital class booster. Image: SpaceX

Update 11:44 a.m. EST (1644 UTC): SpaceX landed the first stage booster on the droneship.

SpaceX launched its latest batch of Starlink satellites from Vandenberg Space Force Base. The Tuesday afternoon mission carried 27 second-generation Starlinks, a new record for this type of satellite.

Liftoff of the Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) happened at 7:45 a.m. PST (10:45 p.m. EST, 1545 UTC). SpaceX had to stand down from a launch attempt on Sunday when a plane entered the keep out zone 11 seconds before the planned liftoff. It did not give a reason for the Monday scrub.

The Falcon 9 first stage booster supporting this mission, tail number B1082, launched for a 10th time. SpaceX previously used it to fly USSF-62, OneWeb 4 and seven previous batches of Starlink satellites.

It is one of four boosters still in use that has only launched from the West Coast.

A little more than eight minutes into the mission, B1082 landed on the SpaceX droneship, ‘Of Course I Still Love You,’ marking the 117th booster landing on OCISLY and the 400th booster landing to date.

The Starlink 11-8 mission sent more second-generation satellites into orbit in one batch than previously possible. According to SpaceX’s 2024 Progress Report, the company said it created Starlink V2 Mini Optimized satellites. The company said they not only have new capabilities, but they are also lighter, and therefore, more can be launched at one time. SpaceX said that its newest version of the V2 Mini are 22 percent lighter than the original V2 Mini.

“These satellites have a new backhaul antenna powered by a SpaceX-designed and built dual band chip, called Doppio,” SpaceX wrote. “The satellites have upgraded avionics, propulsion, and power systems and are optimized for Falcon 9 to allow up to 29 satellites to launch on each mission – six more satellites per launch than the original V2 Mini design.”

It’s unclear if SpaceX launched any of these new satellites prior to the Starlink 11-8 mission. Starting at the beginning of 2024, SpaceX was typically launching 23 Starlink satellites from Florida and 22 from Vandenberg, that is when the satellites with Direct to Cell capabilities weren’t onboard.

The Starlink 6-39 mission, which launched on a Falcon 9 from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on Feb. 25, 2024, was the first to feature 24 Starlink V2 Mini satellites, but there was no mention of any of them being optimized.

It wan’t until Nov. 11, 2024, when another batch of 24 satellites launched, which once again, took place at Cape Canaveral. Since then, there were six more missions that featured 24 Starlink V2 Mini satellites each.

SpaceX achieves milestone with 400th Falcon booster landing on latest Starlink mission

SpaceX has achieved a significant milestone with the successful landing of its 400th Falcon booster on a mission carrying 27 Starlink satellites into orbit. The successful landing marks another step forward in the company’s goal to revolutionize global internet connectivity.

The mission, which saw the Falcon 9 rocket lift off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, was the latest in a series of launches aimed at expanding SpaceX’s Starlink constellation. With each successful launch and landing, SpaceX continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in space exploration.

The 27 Starlink satellites deployed during the mission will join the growing constellation of internet-beaming satellites in low Earth orbit. These satellites play a crucial role in providing high-speed internet access to underserved and remote areas around the world.

SpaceX’s ability to consistently land and reuse Falcon boosters has been a key factor in driving down the cost of spaceflight and making missions more affordable. The company’s commitment to reusability has set a new standard in the industry and is paving the way for a more sustainable future in space exploration.

As SpaceX continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in space, the successful landing of its 400th Falcon booster serves as a reminder of the company’s dedication to innovation and excellence. With each new milestone, SpaceX is proving that the possibilities in space are limitless.

  • UNC Completes Non-Conference Slate In Home Win Vs. Campbell

UNC Completes Non-Conference Slate In Home Win Vs. Campbell

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — North Carolina picked up its second consecutive win on Sunday to close out the calendar year and its non-conference schedule. The Tar Heels (8-5, 1-0) led by as many as 29 points in securing a 97-81 victory against Campbell (5-7) at the Smith Center.

It took a while for North Carolina to create true separation from the Fighting Camels. UNC led by 11 at halftime, but Campbell hung around and kept the game within single digits for most of the first half. The Tar Heels shot 4-17 from 3-point range in the first half, and the offense was fairly stagnant in the halfcourt. UNC missed its final 12 3-pointers of the half. The Tar Heels began to expand their lead early in the second half with a Jalen Washington dunk, an Elliot Cadeau floater and a catch-and-shoot 3-pointer from Ian Jackson that put them ahead by 16. North Carolina secured its first 20-point lead at the 13:11 mark when RJ Davis connected on a catch-and-shoot 3-pointer on a pass from Cadeau.

UNC found most of its success when going inside, scoring 48 points in the paint. North Carolina got the pick and roll game working at times with Cadeau and Davis at guard. Cadeau, who recorded the first double-double of his career, finished the game with a career-high 12 assists and Davis dished out five.

Colby Duggan led the way for Campbell with a career-high 32 points, which is the most that an opponent has scored on UNC’s defense this year.

    RJ Davis Finds Rhythm

Davis found the range early on Sunday, making his first three 3-pointers of the game. His second shot from long range gave him 300 for his career, and it moved him to No. 1 on UNC’s all-time list. He passed his assistant coach Marcus Paige, who finished his career with 299 makes from distance. The fifth-year guard finished the game with 23 points on 5-10 shooting from three. He set a new season-high for 3-pointers made this season, as he made four against Dayton in the Maui Invitational.

Davis, who is third on UNC’s all-time scoring list, entered the game shooting 25.5% (24-94) from 3-point range. Last season, he set a school record with 113 made 3-pointers and he shot 39.8% from outside.

    Another Lineup Change For UNC

Hubert Davis started freshmen standouts Jackson and Drake Powell against the Fighting Camels. Sunday marked the first time since 2021 that the Tar Heels started two freshmen in a game, as Roy Williams started Caleb Love and Kerwin Walton in a Round of 64 game against Wisconsin. Jackson finished with a career-high 26 points on 9-15 shooting on Sunday, and Powell added 12 points. Jackson recorded his third 20-point game of the season and his second in a row.

North Carolina used its fourth unique starting lineup of the season on Sunday. Jackson started for the first time this season, and Washington made his first start since the team’s game against Michigan State in Maui. Seth Trimble was out of the lineup with an upper body injury.

    Next on the schedule

North Carolina will leave town for the first of a two-game road trip this week, as it will face Louisville on Wednesday at 6 p.m. inside the KFC Yum! Center for a New Year’s Day matchup. UNC won last season’s matchup at home 86-70, as former Cardinal Jae’Lyn Withers recorded a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double off the bench.

Louisville (8-5, 1-1) won its most recent game 78-76 at home against Eastern Kentucky, with Noah Watterman’s go-ahead layup putting the Cardinals over the top. Louisville is currently the No. 59 team in the NET rankings, making Wednesday’s game a Quad 1 winning opportunity for the Tar Heels. A road game against an opponent ranked between 1-75 qualifies as a Quad 1 matchup. UNC defeated Georgia Tech earlier this month to open conference play, and the conference schedule will pick up steam after Wednesday.

UNC leads the all-time series against Louisville 20-7, and the Tar Heels have won the last five meetings.

The University of North Carolina Tar Heels completed their non-conference slate with a dominant home win against Campbell University. The Tar Heels showcased their talent and depth as they cruised to a convincing victory.

UNC’s offense was firing on all cylinders, with multiple players contributing to the scoring effort. The defense also stood strong, holding Campbell to a low scoring output throughout the game.

The win gives the Tar Heels momentum heading into conference play, where they will look to continue their winning ways. UNC fans are excited for what the rest of the season holds, as the team looks poised for success.

Stay tuned for more updates on the UNC men’s basketball team as they continue their journey towards a successful season. Go Tar Heels!

  • Pistons vs. Kings final score: Jaden Ivey 4-point play in final seconds completes improbable comeback

Pistons vs. Kings final score: Jaden Ivey 4-point play in final seconds completes improbable comeback

The Detroit Pistons scored 31 points in the final seven minutes, including a clutch four-point game-winning play from Jaden Ivey with 3.1 seconds remaining to snatch a victory from the Sacramento Kings 114-113.

The Pistons’ comeback was fueled by a trio of fourth-quarter threes from Malik Beasley that gave them a puncher’s chance if they could dig down and get a stop or two. They got those crucial stops and cut the lead to one on a Beasley stepback three and the score at 109-108 with 1:04 remaining.

Detroit played some smart, engaged defense and forced a Trey Lyles’ off-the-mark three. Cade Cunningham took the ball and attempted an iso in the paint, but couldn’t nail his 11-foot jumper.

That put the ball in De’Aaron Fox’s hands. Fox, who exploded in the fourth quarter and looked to be the savior of the game until Ivey ripped the Kings’ hearts out, then calmly hit a filthy 14-foot high-arcing jumper to pad the lead back to three 111-108 with 19 seconds remaining.

Instead of holding for a three, the Pistons decided to go quick and use the open lane to create an easy driving two for Ivey, who connected easily. The Kings got a pair of free-throws from Kevin Heuerter and just over 10 seconds left for the Pistons to attempt to tie with a three.

Detroit attempted to put the ball in Beasley’s hands for the game-winning shot, but the Kings obviously had an anyone-but-Beasley defensive gameplan. Beasley passed over to Ivey in the corner who attempted to sidestep the collapsing defender and get the shot up.

Ivey double-clutched, let it go, absorbed the contact, and sank the shot. He then went to the charity stripe and hit the game-winning free-throw to give the Pistons their third win in a row. Ivey finished with 19 points, and Beasley finished with 22 off the bench.

    It’s the team’s first three-game winning streak since 2021.

The Pistons were led by Cade Cunningham’s 33 points and 10 assists. Cunningham did most of his damage in the first half as Detroit was lethargic on both ends, and Cade put the team on his back.

Fox, who had five points at the start of the second quarter, finished with 26 to lead the Kings.

Sacramento was without star center Domantas Sabonis, who was out with an illness, but who needs Sabonis when you have Trey Lyles?

Lyles, a bonafide Pistons killer, chipped in 20 points, four three-pointers, and eight rebounds.

In a thrilling matchup between the Pistons and Kings, Jaden Ivey delivered a jaw-dropping performance to secure a stunning comeback victory. With the game tied in the final seconds, Ivey stepped up to the free-throw line and sunk a clutch shot, drawing a foul in the process. As the crowd held their breath, Ivey calmly drained the ensuing free throw to complete a rare 4-point play, giving the Pistons a miraculous win. The final score: Pistons 110, Kings 108.
