Conceicao discusses Pulisic’s absence, Abraham’s role and Bennacer’s return
AC Milan head coach Sergio Conceicao has spoken about the absence of Christian Pulisic and the battle between the two star wingers ahead of the Juventus game.
Conceicao gave two mini-interviews a few minutes before the game against Como on Tuesday night, and they really were short. The Rossoneri coach took his leave very hastily from the Sky and DAZN cameras, preferring not to stop for a long chat.
After the game he was asked whether he is annoyed by having to speak to the media just before the game starts and it would be fair to say that he didn’t hold anything back. “Those at the club should talk more before the match, I should talk less because I’m nervous,” he said, among other things.
As a result, it seems that DAZN have let Conceicao do his interview ahead of time as they aired a pre-recorded interview with him two hours before kick-off, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
There will be no Christian Pulisic…
“We have to have faith in the other players. I think he’s not a player who wins the match alone, there’s a collective dynamic. I wanted to have him but it’s not possible.”
What do you say to the idea Abraham is not clinical enough?
“The work he does is so important to me, he works hard for the team and creates like in Leao’s goal against Como: he came to a deeper area than I want. I’m happy and the goals will surely come.”
Yildiz or Leao: who is more talented?
“They are two great talents, different. I also like Yildiz a lot. When they put themselves at the service of the team I like to have these young players who can decide the match at any moment even if you are not a solid team. I see a fantastic future for both of them.”
What will Bennacer’s role be, and how is his fitness?
“He was out for four months, he played the first match against Juve and in the final against Cagliari he didn’t play. He lacks rhythm but his intelligence in playing is there with Fofana and Tijji.
“My job is to find the best positions for them. I’m asking him for more vertical movement of the ball and different movement, he has time to take this message and see the final result.”
In a recent press conference, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel’s assistant coach Joao Conceicao discussed several key topics surrounding the team. One of the main talking points was the absence of star winger Christian Pulisic, who has been dealing with injury concerns. Conceicao provided an update on Pulisic’s condition, stating that the American international is making good progress in his recovery and could be back in action soon. He emphasized the importance of having Pulisic fit and available for selection, as he is a key player for the team.
Conceicao also touched upon the role of striker Tammy Abraham in the squad. With competition for places up front fierce, Abraham has found himself on the fringes of the starting lineup in recent weeks. However, Conceicao praised Abraham’s professionalism and work ethic, highlighting his potential to make an impact when called upon. He expressed confidence in Abraham’s ability to contribute to the team’s success.
Finally, Conceicao addressed the return of midfielder Ismael Bennacer from injury. The Algerian international has been sidelined for a significant period of time, but is now back in training and nearing full fitness. Conceicao spoke highly of Bennacer’s qualities as a player, noting his technical ability and tactical intelligence. He underlined the importance of having Bennacer back in the squad, as he provides another option in midfield and adds depth to the team.
Overall, Conceicao’s comments shed light on some key issues facing Chelsea and highlighted the importance of having a fully fit and competitive squad as they continue to push for success in multiple competitions.

Conceicao ‘asking for something different’ from Milan talent in new 2025 era

Sergio Conceicao explains he wants ‘something different’ from Tammy Abraham and Ismael Bennacer at Milan, but sees a ‘fantastic future’ for Kenan Yildiz at Juventus.
The two sides go head-to-head this evening at 17.00 GMT.
Christian Pulisic is ruled out through injury, along with Malick Thiaw, Samuel Chukwueze, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Noah Okafor and Alessandro Florenzi, plus suspended Alvaro Morata.
That inevitably forces changes and limits the options available to the new coach.
“We have faith in all the players, so if Pulisic is not there, someone else will be,” Conceicao told DAZN.
“There is no single player that decides a match, there is a dynamic collective where everyone is important.”
It has been said that Morata is less a centre-forward and more a support striker, so does having Abraham upfront change things for Milan?
“Everyone is waiting for the goals from strikers, but the work that Abraham does is very important for me as a coach. He works so hard for the team, creates opportunities, against Como he provided a great assist for Rafa Leao, dropped deep to pick up the ball.
“The goals will come, because he is someone who knows how to put the ball in the net.”
Bennacer and Milan still adapting to Conceicao

(Photo by Abdullah Ahmed/Getty Images) Conceicao confirmed in a pre-match press conference that Bennacer will start, although the midfielder has struggled so far to deliver what the new coach is looking for.
“He was out for four months, so he is missing match fitness, but his intelligence allows him to play alongside anyone. My job is to find the best position for everyone. I am asking him for something different to what he is accustomed to, to be more vertical in his passing, but there will be time to get the message and I hope the final result will be positive.”
The comeback 2-1 victory over Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final was Conceicao’s debut on the Milan bench, going on to lift the trophy after beating Inter 3-2 in stoppages.
With Dusan Vlahovic not fully fit, the focus of the Juve attack will be Turkish talent Kenan Yildiz, who some have compared to Rafael Leao.
“Yildiz and Leao are both great talents, but they are different,” said the coach.
“I really like Yildiz, these are talents who put themselves to work for the team and can decide a match from one moment to the next. However, if a team is not already strong and solid, you will have trouble letting this individual talent emerge.
“I see a fantastic future for them both.”
In the new 2025 era, AC Milan’s manager Conceicao is asking for something different from the talent at the club. With a fresh approach and a new mindset, Conceicao is pushing his players to think outside the box and strive for greatness.Gone are the days of playing it safe and sticking to the status quo. Conceicao is encouraging his players to take risks, try new tactics, and push themselves to new limits. He wants them to be bold, creative, and innovative on the field.
Conceicao is looking for players who are willing to break the mold and challenge the traditional norms of football. He wants them to be fearless in their approach and unafraid to try something different.
With Conceicao at the helm, AC Milan is entering a new era of excitement and innovation. The players are ready to embrace the challenge and show the world what they are truly capable of. It’s time to shake things up and make a statement in the football world. Let’s see what the future holds for AC Milan under Conceicao’s leadership.

Conceicao makes first big call as coach
One of the things that many AC Milan fans were wondering with the change in head coach was who will wear the armband, and the first answer has arrived.
Sergio Conceicao has not had much time to work with the team having only been announced as the new coach on December 29, but in his pre-match press conference he made it clear that he does not see that as an excuse.
One of the issues that has been spoken about is resolving who will be the captain. Davide Calabria is the official club captain but no longer has a guaranteed starting spot, so Theo Hernandez has regularly filled in as the vice.
Paulo Fonseca decided to take a more democratic approach, even giving the armband to Rafael Leao at one point, but now he is no longer in charge it has once again given everyone a clean slate.
The choice has fallen on Mike Maignan for the Juventus game. As one of the leaders of the dressing room, the goalkeeper will no doubt feel a sense of responsibility to ensure that the transition into a new era is as seamless as possible.
“We are here to act and react, we have to do better. I know my team-mates and we will try to do our best. The fans don’t like the results, but neither do we: we have a lot of ambitions,” the Frenchman said in his pre-match comments.
In his first major decision as coach of the team, Conceicao has made a bold move that is sure to shake things up. Stay tuned to see how this decision impacts the team and their upcoming matches. #Conceicao #Coach #BigCall #TeamChanges
