Texas confirms growing measles outbreak affecting school-aged children
Officials at the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) warn there is a growing measles outbreak involving school-aged children.
The report said that 10 cases have been identified in Gaines County and eight of the cases are school-aged children, of which two are under the age of 5.
All were unvaccinated cases, said officials.
“Due to the highly contagious nature of this disease, additional cases are likely to occur in Gaines County and the surrounding communities,” the alert said.
Seven of the cases have been hospitalized, according to the Texas DSHS.

The rise in cases comes more than two decades after measles was reported eliminated by health agencies in 2000.
This week’s alert went on to advise that additional cases are likely to occur soon.
US MEASLES CASES ARE UP IN 2024. WHAT’S DRIVING THE INCREASE?
“Due to the highly contagious nature of this disease, additional cases are likely to occur in Gaines County and the surrounding communities,” they said.

Officials urged people to immediately report any suspected cases to their local health department with the infected person in their presence.
DSHS said the virus can be transmitted through direct contact with infectious droplets or airborne and spread when an infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes. They also warned that the virus can remain infectious in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area.

Vaccination is the best way for people to avoid infection from measles and other preventable diseases, the advisory said.
“Children too young to be vaccinated are more likely to have severe complications if they get infected with the measles virus,” DSHS said.

Daniil Medvedev confirms Gilles Simon coaching split in Rotterdam
Gilles Cervara remains head coach for Medvedev, a former world No. 1 who won his first major title at the 2021 US Open.
Since peaking at the top of the ATP rankings in February 2022, the 28-year-old has dealt with numerous patches of injuries and inconsistency and has not won a title since 2023.
Medvedev rang in the 2025 season by welcoming his second child with wife Daria, but suffered a second-round loss at the Australian Open to American teenager Learner Tien.
“When you are 20 years old and you first come onto Tour, you have a lot of fire and you just go for it. You are fearless. When you are 28, nearly 29, it is a bit different,” Medvedev told the ATP website. “The fire still burns in me but it is a different fire. You need to try to keep the fire as the margins are so small, and I have it. When you lose early you just need to look forward because there is more coming.”
Medvedev is the No. 2 seed in Rotterdam behind Carlos Alcaraz, and will play his first match against former world No. 3 Stan Wawrinka.
Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev has confirmed that he has split with his coach Gilles Simon during the Rotterdam Open. The decision comes after a successful partnership that saw Medvedev rise to world No. 1 and win multiple ATP titles. In a statement released to the press, Medvedev thanked Simon for his guidance and support over the past few years. He expressed his gratitude for the impact that Simon had on his game and wished him all the best in his future endeavors.
Medvedev is currently competing in the Rotterdam Open and will be looking to continue his winning ways despite the coaching change. Fans will be eagerly watching to see how this split will affect his performance on the court.

Arsenal to agree Ollie Watkins deal? ‘It just confirms all along…’
Credit: Hasan Karim, Breaking Media
Arsenal are unlikely to agree a big-money deal to sign Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins before the transfer window closes on Monday (3 February).
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider there is no value for Villa in selling the England international after Jhon Duran joined Al-Nassr for more than £64million.
The Telegraph reported on 30 January Arsenal’s bid for Watkins was worth around £45million after it was initially believed to be in the region of £60million.
Football Insider revealed on 31 January the north London giants are hoping to play on the 29-year-old’s heartstrings as he is a boyhood fan of the club.
But the forward remains a key player for Unai Emery’s side after registering 11 goals and nine assists in 33 appearances this season.
Arsenal to face issues agreeing striker deal
Borson insisted it will be difficult for Arsenal to sign a striker this late in the window.
MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES
He told Football Insider: “I think the Watkins bid just confirms they have always had capacity all the way along.
“That’s not a surprise to anybody that looks at the numbers. It’s been a choice.
“They seem to have left it a little bit late. I guess they would argue that they have had injuries that they wouldn’t expect in this window and ordinarily wouldn’t want to do a deal. They also lost the sporting director.
“But you could also say that the level that they have bid is neither here nor there. Apparently, they bid less than £60million. If they bid £50million, the actual cost in this financial year is negligible, even for a player like Watkins.
“But they are just not realistically going to get him. I think you then look at the importance of youth. Watkins is 29 and they just don’t think there is the value there to pay more than £60million.
“But clearly, there is also not value in Villa selling him, especially after they have just sold Duran. I don’t think the deal will happen and I don’t know what that means for Arsenal. They have obviously got money.
“They could do a deal but finding a striker at the 11th hour in the window is very hard.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican-controlled Senate on Wednesday confirmed Lee Zeldin to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, a key role to help President Donald Trump fulfill his pledge to roll back major environmental regulations, including those aimed at slowing climate change and encouraging use of electric vehicles.
The vote was 56-42 in Zeldin’s favor. Three Democrats — Sens. Ruben Gallego and Mark Kelly of Arizona and John Fetterman of Pennsylvania — supported Zeldin, along with all 53 Republicans.
Zeldin, a former Republican congressman from New York, is a longtime Trump ally and served on Trump’s defense team during his first impeachment. He voted against certifying Trump’s 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden.
Zeldin, 44, said during his confirmation hearing that he has a moral responsibility to be a good steward of the environment and pledged to support career staff who have dedicated themselves to the agency’s mission to protect human health and the environment.
Zeldin repeatedly declined to commit to specific policies, however, promising instead not to prejudge outcomes before arriving at EPA. When asked by Republican Sen. Pete Ricketts of Nebraska whether he would roll back programs that promote electric cars — a program Trump has repeatedly criticized — Zeldin stayed vague but acknowledged he has heard Republican complaints.
Trump led efforts to dismantle more than 100 environmental protections during his first term and has promised to do so again, targeting what he falsely labels an electric vehicle “mandate” and “green new scam” approved by Democrats.
Trump, who has called climate change a hoax, has vowed to overturn former President Joe Biden’s biggest climate accomplishments, including tailpipe regulations for vehicles and slashed pollution from power plants fired by coal and natural gas. Trump has already moved to oust career staff at EPA and other agencies, remove scientific advisers and close an office that helps minority communities that disproportionately struggle with polluted air and water.
Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island called Zeldin the wrong man for the job.
“We need an EPA administrator who will take climate change seriously, treat the science honestly and stand up where necessary to the political pressure that will be coming from the White House, where we have a president who actually thinks (climate change) is a hoax, and from the huge fossil fuel forces that propelled him into office with enormous amounts of political money and who now think they own the place,” Whitehouse said in a Senate speech.
Trump is “under the thumb of the fossil fuel industry,” Whitehouse said, adding that the EPA administrator “has to be truthful and factual and support and defend our environment and our safety from climate change.”
He has nothing against Zeldin personally, Whitehouse added, “but the likelihood of him standing against that fossil fuel bulldozer that is coming at him is essentially zero. And in that context, this is very much the wrong guy.”
Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said Zeldin will return the EPA to its original mission of protecting America’s air, water and land — without “suffocating the economy.”
Barrasso called Zeldin “a lifelong public servant” and a seasoned lawyer with a sharp legal mind and over 20 years of military service.
Zeldin will continue Trump’s “mission to roll back punishing, political regulations” at the EPA, “cut red tape” and oversee “a new wave of creativity and innovation,” Barrasso said.
“For the last four years, the so-called experts at the Environmental Protection Agency went on a reckless regulatory rampage,” Barrasso said, referring to the Biden administration. “They saddled American families and businesses with higher costs and heavy-handed restrictions. They bowed to climate extremism and ignored common sense.”
Zeldin “will right the ship and restore balance at the EPA,” Barrasso said, citing likely actions to repeal Biden-era rules on tailpipe emissions and power plants, along with eliminating federal subsidies for electric vehicles.
The League of Conservation Voters, a national environmental advocacy group, has panned Zeldin’s lifetime environmental record, giving him a 14% score. Like all Republicans at the time, he voted against the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act aimed at boosting renewable energy and manufacturing and fighting climate change.
Zeldin supported a bill to reduce harmful forever chemicals, called PFAS, that would have required the EPA to set limits on substances in drinking water. He also was a leading proponent of the 2020 Great American Outdoors Act, which used oil and gas royalties to help the National Park Service tackle its massive maintenance backlog. He’s also supported local conservation efforts on Long Island.
Zeldin said at his Jan. 16 hearing that he wants to collaborate with the private sector “to promote common-sense, smart regulation that will allow American innovation to continue to lead the world.”
The EPA under his leadership “will prioritize compliance as much as possible,” Zeldin said. “I believe in the rule of law and I want to work with people to ensure they do their part to protect the environment.”

Today, the Senate confirmed former Congressman Lee Zeldin as the new head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Zeldin’s confirmation comes amidst President Trump’s vow to roll back climate regulations and cut environmental protections.Zeldin, a staunch advocate for deregulation and a critic of climate change science, is expected to lead the EPA in a new direction that aligns with the Trump administration’s pro-business agenda. His confirmation has sparked controversy among environmentalists and lawmakers who fear that his leadership could lead to further dismantling of crucial environmental protections.
President Trump has made it clear that he intends to prioritize economic growth over environmental concerns, and Zeldin’s appointment is seen as a step in that direction. With Zeldin at the helm, the EPA is likely to see a significant shift in its approach to climate change and other environmental issues.
As Zeldin takes the reins at the EPA, it remains to be seen how his leadership will impact the agency’s mission to protect the environment and public health. Environmental advocates and concerned citizens will be closely watching to see how Zeldin’s policies shape the future of environmental protection in the United States.

Colin Cowherd confirms move to Chicago as part of FS1 extension
Colin Cowherd formally announced his move to Chicago this week, a big change for the FS1 star and his hit show The Herd.
After Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports reported Cowherd agreed to a new contract with Fox that will extend his run as the face of the network beyond a decade while splitting time between Los Angeles and Chicago, Cowherd confirmed the new digs Wednesday on The Colin Cowherd Podcast.
Cowherd explained that he and his wife Ann, an interior designer, have maintained an apartment in Chicago for years to enjoy the city lifestyle and visit Ann’s sister. It’s not just a family move, though, as the relocation puts Cowherd in proximity to the Big Ten Network offices. Conveniently, that will allow Cowherd to broadcast The Herd from his new home while being closer to family as well.
“My wife has given a lot to my career and sacrifice,” Cowherd said. “I love the city, she’s got her sister there, I’ve got a lot of friends there. And I think it’s just time to be a better guy, be a better husband.”
The host first teased a move to Chicago last April. In his announcement this week, Cowherd said he told Fox Sports of his intentions six months ago.
Because Fox is a majority owner and operating partner of the Big Ten Network, the move works well logistically for FS1, which was built around Cowherd when it launched in 2016. The Herd remains competitive against ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show and anchors FS1’s daytime lineup.
It won’t be a full goodbye to L.A., where Fox Sports also broadcasts its daytime shows Speak and The Facility as well as its Sunday NFL pregame slate. Cowherd estimated he will spend a few weeks each football season back in Southern California.
Cowherd, who also works for iHeartMedia as part of a distribution deal for the radio simulcast of The Herd, believes experiencing a new part of the country helps him as a sports analyst. And he has bounced around a lot, starting his career in the West before later heading to Tampa and ultimately Bristol.
“I always said I think it’s an advantage as a broadcaster,” Cowherd said. “I think it gives me a sense of every region.”
Now Cowherd can officially add the midwest to the list.
The radio veteran did not give a formal date for his move, and Fox Sports has not officially announced Cowherd’s new deal. On his podcast, Cowherd stated the relocation will happen this spring.
After much speculation, Colin Cowherd has officially confirmed that he will be moving to Chicago as part of his contract extension with FS1. The popular sports commentator and host of “The Herd” made the announcement on his show, stating that he is excited for the new chapter in his career.Cowherd’s move to Chicago comes as no surprise to many fans, as rumors of the relocation have been circulating for weeks. The move is expected to bring a fresh perspective to his show and allow him to delve deeper into the sports scene in the Windy City.
Fans of Cowherd can expect the same insightful analysis and entertaining banter that they have come to love, but with a new twist as he immerses himself in the sports culture of Chicago. Stay tuned for more updates on Cowherd’s move and what it means for the future of “The Herd.”

#WWE #Confirms #Triple #Receive #WWE #Hall #Fame #InductionTom McKibbin: Northern Ireland man confirms move to Saudi-backed LIV Golf
McKibbin becomes the second player from Northern Ireland to make the switch to LIV Golf, with 2010 US Open winner Graeme McDowell already part of a circuit that has several other major winners.
Those include current US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, plus Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith and Sergio Garcia.
The Holywood golfer has qualified for this year’s Open Championship, which will be held at Royal Portrush.
McKibbin turned professional in April 2021 and won his first DP World Tour event in June 2023 at the Porsche European Open in Germany. He also lost in a play-off at last year’s Italian Open.
His decision could jeopardise his prospects of securing a Ryder Cup debut this season, even though he was part of the Great Britain & Ireland team at the recent Team Cup in Abu Dhabi which Europe skipper Luke Donald used to look at player options for the biennial match against USA.
Speaking two weeks ago, former world number one McIlroy said he would find it “a little disappointing” if McKibbin did move to LIV.
“If I were in his position, which I think I have been before, and had his potential I wouldn’t make that decision,” McIlroy said.
“But I’m not him. I’m not in his shoes. He’s a grown man at this point and can make his own decisions.”
McIlroy added that he would continue to be a “fan” of the 22-year-old and “help him in whatever way I can”.
Tom McKibbin, a promising young golfer from Northern Ireland, has confirmed his move to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league. The 19-year-old rising star has shown great potential in the world of golf, and his decision to join the controversial new league has raised eyebrows in the golfing community.McKibbin, who turned professional in 2020, has already made a name for himself on the junior circuit and is seen as one of the most promising young talents in the sport. His decision to join LIV Golf is seen as a bold move, as the league has faced criticism for its association with Saudi Arabia and its alleged attempts to disrupt the traditional golfing landscape.
Despite the controversy surrounding LIV Golf, McKibbin has expressed his excitement about the opportunity to compete against some of the best players in the world and showcase his skills on a global stage. Many fans and experts are eager to see how he will fare in the new league and whether he can continue his impressive rise in the world of professional golf.
As McKibbin prepares to embark on this new chapter in his career, there is no doubt that he will continue to be a player to watch in the golfing world. His talent, determination, and ambition make him a formidable competitor, and his move to LIV Golf will undoubtedly add an extra layer of intrigue to his already promising career.

The Senate has confirmed Congressman Lee Zeldin to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in a move that has sparked controversy among environmental advocates. Zeldin, a Republican from New York, has been a vocal critic of climate change regulations and has vowed to roll back environmental protections put in place by the previous administration.President Trump praised Zeldin’s confirmation, stating that he is confident Zeldin will prioritize economic growth over environmental regulations. The President has also reiterated his commitment to cutting climate rules and expanding domestic energy production.
Environmental groups have expressed concern over Zeldin’s appointment, citing his track record of voting against environmental protections and his ties to the fossil fuel industry.
