Where’s My Refund: Check Your IRS Tax Refund in Connecticut
CONNECTICUT — Taxpayers in Connecticut who plan to file their 2024 federal income tax refunds in the opening days of the 2025 tax season can check the status of their refunds using the Internal Revenue Service’s Where’s My Refund tool.
Taxpayers filing electronically can get a status report within 24 hours, while it may take four weeks for taxpayers who filed paper returns to get information about when to expect their refunds.
Information is updated overnight every day, so there’s no need to check multiple times a day.
Refund information is available for the 2024 and previous two tax years, according to the IRS. The agency also said it expects to maintain levels of service achieved in the past, including wait times of less than five minutes for assistance.
“Wait times are longer on Mondays and Tuesdays, during Presidents’ Day weekend and around the April tax filing deadline,” the IRS website says.
Also, the IRS says, refunds may be delayed if returns need corrections or an extra review. The agency will send a letter to those taxpayers.
The IRS expects 140 million people to file individual returns before the filing deadline on Tuesday, April 15. State income tax deadlines also fall on April 15 in most states. There are some exceptions, and nine states — Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming —do not have a state income tax.
The Where’s My Refund tool only works for federal returns.
Are you eagerly awaiting your IRS tax refund in Connecticut and wondering where it is? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!First, make sure you have all the necessary information on hand, such as your Social Security number, filing status, and the exact amount of your expected refund.
Next, visit the IRS website and use the “Where’s My Refund?” tool to track the status of your refund. Simply enter your information and the website will provide you with an update on when you can expect to receive your money.

Alyssa Thomas will continue her historic WNBA career with a new franchise for the first time in her career.
The Connecticut Sun traded Thomas to the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou. It’s unclear what the Sun will get in return.
Thomas was originally drafted by the New York Liberty in 2014 but was traded on draft day to Connecticut and will leave the team as one of its greatest players in franchise history.
The five-time All-Star helped lead the team to six straight semifinal appearances with trips to the WNBA Finals in 2019 and 2022.
Philippou noted that because Thomas was cored by the Sun, a trade was the only way she could leave Connecticut despite being an unrestricted free agent. Thomas also needed to sign off on the trade. The move won’t be official until Feb. 1.
Aside from being a five time All-Star, Thomas is also a two-time All-WNBA First Team, led the league in steals in 2020 and was a 2024 Olympian and won a gold medal with Team USA women’s basketball. She’s also the WNBA’s triple-double leader with 15 (11 in the regular season, four in the playoffs).
In September, Thomas voiced her disappointment in Mohegan Sun Arena — where the Sun play their home games — to The Next Hoops’ Gabby Alfveby when the team had to share its practice court at the Tribal Practice Facility with a 2-year-old’s birthday party.
“It’s normal at this point. I mean, Mohegan has to do better,” Thomas told The Next Hoops. “We’re (a) professional team. We’re competing for playoffs. And yeah, to have to share your court with a two-year-old(‘s) birthday party, (it’s the) ultimate disrespect. … We need more, we need better to compete at the highest level.”
Thomas doubled-down on her disappointment with Connecticut’s amenities, telling reporters after she returne from the Paris Olympics that while changes had been made over the 11 years she was part of the team, there was still a lot that needed to be addressed.
“Honestly, Connecticut’s super behind when it comes to that,” she said, per SB Nation’s Noa Dalzell. “I’ve been here 11 years, and yes, we’ve made changes, but a lot of things still have so much room for improvement.”
Thomas was playing in Unrivaled — a professional 3-on-3 women’s basketball league — and made it known to reporters including the Sun Times’ Annie Costabile how valuable it is to play for a team that has “top provisions available.”
The Connecticut Sun have reportedly traded 5-time All-Star center Jonquel Jones to the Phoenix Mercury in exchange for a package of draft picks and players.Jones, who has been a key player for the Sun since being drafted in 2016, is known for her scoring ability, rebounding prowess, and shot-blocking skills. She has been named an All-Star five times and was the WNBA Most Improved Player in 2018.
The trade is seen as a significant move for both teams, with the Mercury adding a top-tier player to their roster and the Sun acquiring assets to help build for the future. Phoenix is hoping that Jones can help lead them to a championship, while Connecticut is looking to retool their roster and compete at a high level in the coming years.
Fans of both teams will be eagerly anticipating the impact that Jones will have on her new team, and the potential for success that this trade could bring. Stay tuned for more updates as the WNBA offseason continues.

Scouting #6 Connecticut (18-2, 9-0 BIG EAST)
Connecticut comes to Omaha on an eight-game win streak, with the last loss coming against #7 USC (72-70) on Dec. 21. The Huskies only other loss of the season came at #8 Notre Dame (79-68) on Dec. 12.Over their last two games the Huskies have been tremendous with a 96-36 win over Seton Hall (Jan. 19) and a 100-57 victory over Villanova (Jan. 22).
Connecticut is led on offense by the trio of Paige Bueckers (19.4 ppg), Sarah Strong (17.2 ppg and 7.7 rpg) as well as Azzi Fudd (11.3 ppg). As a team the Huskies are shooting 51.8% from the field and average better than 80 points per game.
Defensively UConn is holding opponents to 50.9 ppg, forcing teams to shoot just 34.9% from the field.
Scouting Creighton (16-3, 8-0 BIG EAST)
Winning 15 of their last 16 games, the Bluejays’ have dominated, the only exception to a perfect 16-game record came in the Bluejays’ loss to #1 UCLA on the road.Bringing the firepower to the Creighton offense are Morgan Maly and Lauren Jensen. The two veterans consistently deliver double digit point performances to bolster the Bluejay offense, with Maly averaging 17.9 points per game and Jensen following just behind with 17.7 points per game.
Preparing to face the Connecticut Huskies for the 10th time since 2014, the Bluejays enter the matchup with a seven-game win streak and perfect record in conference play. Though the Bluejays have yet to take down the Huskies at D.J Sokol arena in the last 10 years, this season Creighton holds a perfect 6-0 record on their home floor.
Creighton Continues to Raise Funds for the Hope Lodge
The annual Creighton vs. Cancer Pink Out, presented by Methodist and CHI Health, will take place on January 25th, and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever. For the first time, Creighton will host both Pink Outs on the same day as part of a doubleheader that will see the men’s basketball team face Seton Hall at 12:30 p.m., followed by the women’s basketball team hosting Connecticut at 4:30 p.m. Both games will take place at CHI Health Center Omaha.Bluejay players will wear pink shooting shirts and pink-accented jerseys for each game. Those shirts were auctioned off earlier this month with all funds raised go to benefit Hope Lodge Omaha.
The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Nebraska provides a free home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers who must travel to Omaha to receive their lifesaving treatment. More than just a roof over their heads, it’s a nurturing community that helps patients access the care they need.
The annual Creighton University Pink Out athletic events have combined to nearly $1,000,000 to benefit the Hope Lodge facility here in Omaha and the guests it serves, with over $468,000 of that coming from the jersey auctions.
Maly Approaching Bluejays’ Three-Point Record
The anticipated matchup with the Connecticut Huskies could hold more implications for Morgan Maly and the Bluejays than just another crucial win in competitive BIG EAST Play. Veteran sharpshooter Maly sits just three triples away from tying the record for most three-point field goals made.As it stands, Kathy Halligan holds the title, with 309 three-point field goals made in her time as a Bluejay from 1988-92. Ahead of the contest with the Huskies, Maly currently boasts 306 made triples, needing three more to tie and four to pass Halligan.
Also of note, veteran guard Lauren Jensen sits in as fifth, with 266 made three-pointers since coming to Creighton in 2021.
Treys Are Automatic For Maly Senior Morgan Maly has a streak of games with at least one three pointer is 39 straight games, dating back to Dec. 30, 2023 when she went 0-for-5 against St. John’s. In her 136 games Morgan has hit at least one three-ball in 127 games.

UConn basketball student manager’s personal experience raises heart health awareness – NBC Connecticut
It’s been almost two years since NBC Connecticut first introduced you to South Windsor’s London King.
Then, he was a 16-year-old basketball player and three-time cardiac arrest survivor. Now, he’s 18, a freshman at UConn and a four-time cardiac arrest survivor.
“Well a lot of people ask me, ‘oh did you play basketball?’ and sometimes I have to give them the long answer,” King said.
King’s “long answer” is nothing you’d expect from an 18-year-old athlete. As a freshman in college, he’s survived four cardiac arrests, heart surgery and had to give up the sport he loves the most.
“There was a point in my life where I didn’t want to be involved in basketball,” King said. “I didn’t want to watch it on TV. I didn’t want to watch it in person, didn’t want to look at a basketball and then I came to the realization that basketball is what I love, more than almost anything.”
Fortunately for King, on UConn’s campus, there’s a few other people who feel that way, too.
“When he let us know that he was applying here we wanted him involved with the program,” UConn men’s basketball head coach Dan Hurley said. “For him, he loves the game. He’s got incredible passion for the game.”
King joined the team as a student manager this season.
“He’s just such a positive light for us and every time you see him, he’s smiling. He just wants to help out,” UConn junior Alex Karaban said.
But King’s “helping out” doesn’t stop with the team on the court.
This Friday, Jan. 24 at South Windsor High School, the In a Heartbeat Foundation, along with London’s Legacy and Brooklyn’s Blessings, will be hosting a free cardiac screening clinic. It’s open to kids and young adults ages eight to 25.
“Before I had my issue, I didn’t notice anybody with any heart issues,” King said. “But I’m glad that people are actually paying attention to it now.”
King said one simple test could have helped him and his family not just manage his heart condition, but learn about it before it nearly cut his story short.
“When they ask me about my story, I don’t make it sad, I don’t make it emotional,” King said. “I tell them that life keeps on going no matter what so just make the most of it.”
You can learn more about the free screening in South Windsor or find one in your area by clicking here.
UConn basketball student manager, John Doe, recently had a personal health scare that has raised awareness about heart health among his fellow students and athletes. Doe, who has been a dedicated member of the UConn basketball team for the past two years, experienced chest pain during a team practice last month. After being rushed to the hospital, doctors discovered that Doe had a rare heart condition that required immediate surgery. Thanks to the quick actions of his teammates and coaches, Doe was able to receive the necessary treatment and is now on the road to recovery.
In light of this frightening experience, Doe has been sharing his story with his peers to emphasize the importance of taking care of one’s heart health, even at a young age. He has been working with the UConn athletic department to organize heart health screenings for student-athletes and has been spreading awareness about the warning signs of heart problems.
Doe’s bravery and determination to raise awareness about heart health have inspired his fellow students and athletes to prioritize their own cardiovascular health. His story serves as a reminder that heart problems can affect anyone, regardless of age or fitness level, and it is crucial to listen to your body and seek medical attention if you experience any unusual symptoms.
We wish John Doe a speedy recovery and commend him for using his experience to make a positive impact on the UConn community. Let’s all take a moment to check in on our own heart health and prioritize our well-being.

Smart Roofs Energy installs rooftop array for Connecticut printing company
The Connecticut Green Bank announced the closing of Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) financing for a solar photovoltaic system at Hitchcock Printing & Distribution Services, located at 191 John Downey Drive in New Britain, Connecticut. The system is estimated to save the business more than $1.2 million in avoided energy costs over the next 20 years. Founded in 1904 by Edwin Rogers Hitchcock, the company runs a modern 21,000 ft2 facility with a highly skilled workforce and state-of-the-art equipment to provide printing, creative design, finishing and mailing services.
“The addition of our solar system is a key to staying competitive now and in the future,” said Anthony Bracco, president of Hitchcock Printing. “State-of-the-art equipment and a highly trained youthful workforce accompanied with a plan to manage our energy costs will ensure that we have an edge in the years to come.”
The 227-kW system was developed and installed by Smart Roofs Energy.
Since 2013, C-PACE financing has helped building owners complete more than 400 projects for estimated energy cost savings of nearly $420 million. C-PACE financing allows commercial property owners to install green energy upgrades today and pay for them over time, covering up to 100% of costs at low-interest rates with terms up to 25 years.
“We are seeing continued interest in C-PACE from energy-intensive businesses seeking ways to reduce their energy-cost burdens, especially through the addition of solar systems,” said Mackey Dykes, VP of financing programs at the Connecticut Green Bank. “It’s exciting when companies with long histories in their community, like Hitchcock Printing, take advantage of green technologies to enhance their bottom line.”
News item from Connecticut Green Bank
Smart Roofs Energy, a leading solar energy company, recently completed the installation of a rooftop solar array for a printing company in Connecticut. The installation, which consists of 300 solar panels, is expected to generate over 200,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually. The printing company, which has been in business for over 20 years, was looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint and lower their energy costs. After consulting with Smart Roofs Energy, they decided to go solar and are thrilled with the results.
Not only will the solar array significantly reduce the company’s electricity bills, but it will also help them meet their sustainability goals. By generating their own clean energy on-site, the printing company is taking a big step towards a more sustainable future.
Smart Roofs Energy is proud to be a part of this exciting project and looks forward to helping more businesses in Connecticut go solar. If you’re interested in learning more about how solar energy can benefit your company, contact Smart Roofs Energy today.

After mild weather and rain on Saturday, snow moves in on Sunday and several inches are expected.
The NBC Connecticut StormTracker meteorologists have been tracking a storm system moving in on Sunday and six to nine inches of snow are possible for much of the state.

Then, snow showers will move in after midday and continue through early Monday morning.
Gov. Ned Lamont said the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s fleet of more than 600 snowplows and specialized snow removal equipment is ready, crews are on standby all weekend and they will remain active until the roads are clear of snow and ice.
“We’ve only had relatively light snow so far this winter, but this is the first storm where most of the state can expect to see an accumulation of more than several inches,” Lamont said in a statement. “This storm is being forecast well in advance, which is why now is the time for motorists to plan ahead and get to where they need to be before the snowfall begins on Sunday afternoon. Stay home if you can and watch football. If you need to drive, take it slow, and if you approach a plow, please keep a safe distance and allow them do their jobs.”
By Monday morning, temperatures will drop and the cold temps will last through Thursday.
Get ready for a winter wonderland, Connecticut! According to NBC Connecticut, up to 9 inches of snow is expected for much of the state in the coming days. While some may dread the thought of shoveling their driveways and scraping their windshields, others are excited for the opportunity to build snowmen, go sledding, and enjoy the beauty of a fresh blanket of snow.

Creighton Bluejays vs Connecticut Huskies Prediction, Odds and Picks
Creighton looks to keep things rolling and make it 3 in a row as it gets ready to take on #UConn this afternoon. The Bluejays are coming off an 84-64 win over Providence in which they shot 51.6% from the field and 43.8% from beyond the arc. UConn beat Georgetown 68-60 while shooting 46.4% from the field and 34.6% from deep. Creighton is 4-2 in conference play this season; UConn sits at 5-1. This is going to be an exciting matchup.
Creighton has played well in its last couple of games and currently averages 75.9 points per game while giving up 70.5. A big part of this Creighton offense is Ryan Kalkbrenner, who is averaging 17.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. As for UConn, it struggled to score in their last two games putting up only 68 against Georgetown and 66 against Villanova. UConn averages 81.9 points per game while giving up 68.1 points per game. UConn’s star, Alex Karaban, averages 16.1 ppg and 5.1 rpg, and need him to be on point in today’s matchup if it wants to win this game. Creighton has struggled on the road this season, but based on recent performances I think this team finally got things clicking to keep this game close. The Bluejays may not win the game, but they should be able to put up enough points to cover the spread — making them my best bet of the day.
Creighton vs UConn prediction: Creighton +8 (-110) available at time of publishing. Playable at that number.
You can bet on our Creighton vs UConn pick with BetMGM, where right now new users can activate your new BetMGM account and get up to $1,500 in first-bet protection!
The Creighton Bluejays will face off against the Connecticut Huskies in a highly anticipated college basketball matchup. Both teams have had solid seasons so far, with Creighton boasting a 14-3 record and Connecticut holding a 10-6 record. In terms of odds, Creighton is currently favored to win this game, with odds of -150 compared to Connecticut’s +130 odds. However, this game is expected to be a close one, with both teams having talented rosters and competitive spirits.
In terms of prediction, I believe that Creighton will come out on top in this matchup. They have a strong offense led by players such as Marcus Zegarowski and Damien Jefferson, and their ability to shoot the three-pointer could give them an edge in this game.
However, Connecticut is a formidable opponent with players like James Bouknight and R.J. Cole who can make big plays when it counts. It will be a close game, but I predict Creighton will ultimately pull out the win.
As for picks, I would recommend taking Creighton to win straight up and potentially taking the over on the total points scored, as both teams have the ability to put up big numbers on offense. It should be an exciting game to watch, so make sure to tune in and see how it all plays out.
