Luka Garza continues to be Timberwolves’ secret weapon in Utah
Then when Alexander-Walker came to the Wolves in the Russell trade, he wasn’t playing much, and he was at a precarious point in his career where he might have been out of the league the following season. But when he got more playing time with injuries to Reid and Jaden McDaniels late in the season, he played well and got a new contract.
“Those examples in front of me are inspiring and motivating,” Garza said. “I feel like I’m in that spot where I can do that as well for myself. I’ve made it my identity to always be ready when my name is called.”
The organization has always loved Garza’s professionalism and his work ethic. It’s why he has worked his way up from training camp invite, to edge-of-roster player, to a two-way contract and most recently, to a full NBA contract. Coach Chris Finch had plenty to say about Garza’s approach after Thursday’s win.
“He’s one of my most favorite players I’ve ever coached, for so many reasons,” Finch said. “He’s stayed always ready. Always in a great mood and been an unbelievable example for all the other young guys. Every time we put him in, he produces. Silly me, I probably should play him more, but with the number of bigs and the way we’ve had the roster constructed over the last couple of years, it’s not easy to do, but he’s always, always ready.”
Garza has stayed with the organization because he felt a good fit among him, Finch’s style of play and the culture Finch and the front office established.
“I feel like I fit perfectly into what [Finch] is trying to do,” Garza said. “He does a really good job of putting me in the right spots, and all my teammates have so much confidence in me. That’s the thing that keeps me going when I’m not playing … Mike, Ant, Donte are coming to talk to me, to stay ready, and I’m bought in to help this team in whatever way I can.”
Luka Garza continues to be Timberwolves’ secret weapon in UtahThe Minnesota Timberwolves have found a hidden gem in rookie center Luka Garza. Despite going undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft, Garza has quickly made a name for himself with his strong play on both ends of the court.
In a recent matchup against the Utah Jazz, Garza once again proved to be a valuable asset for the Timberwolves. He showcased his scoring prowess with 15 points and 8 rebounds in just 20 minutes of play. Garza’s ability to stretch the floor with his outside shooting has been a valuable addition to the Timberwolves’ offense.
But it’s not just Garza’s scoring that has impressed his teammates and coaches. His hustle on defense and willingness to crash the boards have made him a key contributor on the defensive end as well. Garza’s work ethic and determination have quickly earned him the respect of his teammates and coaching staff.
As the Timberwolves continue to push for a playoff spot in the competitive Western Conference, Luka Garza’s emergence as a secret weapon could prove to be a game-changer. With his versatile skill set and strong work ethic, Garza has the potential to make a significant impact for the Timberwolves down the stretch. Keep an eye on this rising star as he continues to shine in Utah and beyond.

No. 3 Notre Dame Continues Road Swing With Trip To Blacksburg – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Official Athletics Website
BLACKSBURG, Va. — After a win at Boston College last Thursday and the weekend off, No. 3 Notre Dame (17-2, 8-0) heads to Virginia Tech (14-6, 5-4) for the second of three straight away games.
The Irish most recently stifled a hot Eagles offense, defeating BC 89-63 and holding them to a 1-17 showing from the floor to close out the game. Hannah Hidalgo paced Notre Dame with 23 points, while Sonia Citron stuffed the stat sheet once again with 9 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and a block. She led the team in both boards and dimes.
Notre Dame’s “pick your poison” mantra is alive and well through eight ACC games. There are five players in the conference posting at least 15 points, 6 rebounds and a pair of assists per game in ACC play. Three of them play for the Irish (Citron, Hidalgo and Olivia Miles). The other two are Miami’s Haley Cavinder and Stanford’s Nunu Agara.
In total, Notre Dame has a player ranked in the top 10 nationally in four of the five major statistical categories — Hidalgo (points and steals), Miles (assists) and Kate Koval (blocks). As a team, the Irish lead the ACC in rebounds, assists, blocks and steals per game plus field goal percentage, scoring margin and rebounding margin. The Irish offense is posting 87.5 points per game, which ranks second in the conference and fifth nationally. The group also leads the country with a 41.2 success rate from beyond the arc.
The Hokies are led by first year coach and Notre Dame alum Megan Duffy, who played in South Bend from 2002-06. Virginia Tech is coming off an 85-57 loss to No. 20 NC State but brings a balanced offense and young core to the court. Carleigh Wenzel is the team’s leading scorer (14.3 ppg), but four players are averaging 10+ points per contest. Wenzel led the Hokies with 18 points in Raleigh on Sunday. Forward Rose Michaeux is posting a near double-double with 12.4 points and 8.5 boards per game.
Notre Dame is 17-2 all-time against Virginia Tech and has won the last five meetings, including a top-10 clash in December 2022, the last time the Irish visited Cassell Coliseum. Thursday’s game airs on ACCNX and tips off at 6 p.m.
The No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish are hitting the road once again as they travel to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech in their next game. After a thrilling victory in their last matchup, Notre Dame is looking to continue their winning streak and solidify their spot near the top of the rankings. This road swing will test the Fighting Irish as they face a tough Virginia Tech team on their home turf. The Hokies are always a formidable opponent, especially in front of their passionate fans. Notre Dame will need to bring their A-game in order to come out on top in this matchup.
With a talented roster and a strong coaching staff, the Fighting Irish have the tools to come away with a victory in Blacksburg. Fans can expect an exciting and competitive game as Notre Dame looks to extend their winning streak and make a statement in the college football world.

Sen. Britt continues to pursue anti-immigration agenda, introduces POLICE Act
Last week, the Laken Riley Act, a piece of legislation introduced by U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, R-AL, passed the House of Representatives before being sent to the Oval Office where it is expected to be the first bill signed into law under the new Trump administration. The bill would require U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to detain any undocumented migrant arrested for offenses as minor as shoplifting before they are even charged with a crime.
Now, Britt is looking to add onto the provisions of the Laken Riley Act with a new bill, the Protect Our Law Enforcement with Immigration Control and Enforcement (POLICE) Act of 2025, which she introduced on Monday alongside U.S. Sen. Ted Budd, R-NC.
When it passed, the Laken Riley Act included an amendment which added assaulting a law enforcement officer to the list of crimes which ICE is required to detain an undocumented immigrant for. In that vein, the POLICE Act would explicitly make the assault of a law enforcement officer, firefighter, or other first responder by an undocumented individual a “deportable offense.”
“The American people want to make sure our communities and our friends and neighbors are safe,” Britt said in an official statement on Monday. “The passage of the Laken Riley Act was a big step forward in helping achieve this goal, but there is so much more that needs to be done, including passage of the POLICE Act. I think all Americans should be able to agree that if you break our laws after coming here illegally, you should be quickly removed from our nation. Senator Ted Budd’s and my legislation would ensure our brave law enforcement officers, firefighters, and first responders are strongly protected.”
Sen. Budd also spoke in support of the legislation.
“One of the best ways we can support law enforcement officers, and protect the public, is by deporting dangerous people who do them harm. If a migrant commits the crime of assaulting an officer or other first responder, they should be subject to immediate deportation. Our lawmakers must always back the men and women who protect and serve our communities. We must act on this vital proposal,” Budd said.
Just days into the new Trump administration, Sen. Britt has already been one of the staunchest supporters of the president’s anti-immigration agenda.
In addition to the Laken Riley and POLICE Acts, Britt is also a cosponsor of the Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act, a bill which would require states and municipalities to waive any protections of undocumented migrants as a condition of receiving federal grant dollars.
Britt has also introduced the WALL Act to appropriate $25 billion “to finish building a wall on our southern border without raising taxes on U.S. citizens or increasing the national debt.” According to Britt, the bill would be funded by closing loopholes, eliminating access to social services for undocumented migrants, and fining individuals who immigrate illegally or overstay their legal visas.
In a latest move to push forward his anti-immigration agenda, Sen. Britt has introduced the POLICE Act in Congress. This proposed legislation aims to increase cooperation between local law enforcement agencies and federal immigration authorities, further empowering them to enforce immigration laws.Critics argue that the POLICE Act would lead to racial profiling and erode trust between immigrant communities and law enforcement. They believe that this bill would only perpetuate fear and discrimination among immigrants, ultimately harming public safety.
Sen. Britt, however, defends his stance by stating that the bill is necessary to uphold the rule of law and protect American citizens from potential threats posed by undocumented immigrants. He argues that the POLICE Act is crucial in ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
As the debate over immigration reform continues to heat up, it remains to be seen whether the POLICE Act will gain enough support to become law. Stay tuned for further updates on this controversial legislation.

Padres Lose Ha-Seong Kim to AL Contender as Brutal Offseason Continues
The San Diego Padres have lost another key free agent, as infielder Ha-Seong Kim has signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Kim is signing a $29 million deal with an opt-out after the first season, per Passan.

Infielder Ha-Seong Kim and the Tampa Bay Rays are in agreement on a two-year, $29 million contract that includes an opt-out after the first season, sources tell ESPN. Kim is coming off shoulder surgery but is expected to return in May and slated to take over at shortstop.

Kim is yet another free agent to leave the Padres in a brutal offseason for San Diego. Jurickson Profar signed with the Atlanta Braves despite interest in returning to San Diego. He mentioned the ongoing ownership lawsuit as a reason he’s not back.

“Obviously the Padres have some issue with the ownership and all that,” Profar said in a video call with the Atlanta media. “It was difficult to go back (to San Diego), but [Braves general manager] Alex [Anthopoulous] showed a lot, a lot of interest in me and I loved that. He gave me a lot of confidence to come to a team and to perform. People show confidence like that, it gives you a boost.”
All-Star reliever Tanner Scott left the Padres for the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers, and hasn’t stop talking about how happy he is to be in L.A.

Now, Kim is officially gone from San Diego, even though just two years ago he appeared to be a future cornerstone of the roster.
This story will be updated…
The San Diego Padres have suffered another blow in what has been a brutal offseason, as they have lost infielder Ha-Seong Kim to an American League contender.Kim, who signed with the Padres last offseason, was a key part of their infield depth and provided versatility with his ability to play multiple positions. However, it has been reported that he has been traded to an AL contender in exchange for prospects, leaving the Padres with a hole to fill in their infield.
This news comes on the heels of the Padres missing out on several free agent targets and dealing with injuries to key players. Fans are understandably frustrated with the team’s inability to make significant moves to improve their roster, especially as they try to compete in a tough NL West division.
As the Padres continue to struggle this offseason, it remains to be seen if they can turn things around before the start of the season. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

Rapid Reaction: Northwestern’s conference drought continues with 85-80 loss to Iowa
It was another tough loss for the ‘Cats at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Northwestern (7-12, 0-8 B1G) could not pick up its first conference win of the year, falling short by a score of 85-80 against the Iowa Hawkeyes (14-7, 4-6 B1G).
For the Hawkeyes, Hannah Stuelke led the way with a season-high 26 points along with six rebounds. The ‘Cats were led by Melannie Daley and Caileigh Walsh, who put up 15 points apiece. Caroline Lau added 13 on 4-of-6 shooting from three, and the ‘Cats shot just 65% from the free throw line compared to 90% for the Hawkeyes. Both teams shot above 40% from three, with the ‘Cats hitting a season-high nine triples on 60% three-point shooting.
Wildcat head coach Joe McKeown made a change in the starting lineup for this matchup, benching point guard Lau for the first time this season. Lau sat in favor of a three-forward starting lineup featuring Walsh who had previously been coming off the bench.
The Hawkeyes won the tip, but Kylie Feuerbach missed the opening layup and committed a foul on the subsequent possession. Grace Sullivan got the ‘Cats on the board after a couple of empty possessions with a layup to put Northwestern up 2-1. After a brief period of no scoring, Lucy Olsen fouled Wildcat guard Kyla Jones on a shot near the basket and Jones made 1-of-2 at the charity stripe. Olsen missed a three-ball on the next opportunity for Iowa, and then Casey Harter knocked down a corner three for the Wildcats off a nice assist from Grace Sullivan.
Stuelke, a key player in Iowa’s March Madness run last season, converted a quick two for Iowa, but Walsh responded with another triple, and the ‘Cats were up 9-3. After the teams traded buckets, Lau and Daley checked in for NU for the first time, and the teams traded turnovers on the subsequent two possessions. Lau, an inefficient 22.7% three-point shooter entering the game, hit a big three to extend the lead to nine, and after a shooting foul on Daley sent Feuerbach to the line, the Wildcats went into the media break with a surprising 14-5 lead.
Feuerbach made 1-of-2 following the timeout. Iowa went into the press on the next possession, but the ‘Cats broke through successfully, and a deep two from Daley put the ‘Cats up by double digits for the first time in the game. Addison O’Grady finally responded for the Hawkeyes, picking up her first bucket to cut things to 16-8. With Northwestern clinging to a 20-17 lead, Casey Harter hit a huge three to double the advantage. The Hawkeyes trailed 23-20 after one quarter of action.
The second quarter scoring opened up with another mid-range jumper from Daley. She fought hard for a defensive rebound on the subsequent defensive possession, and Williams took a feed from Kyla Jones to put the ‘Cats up seven. Hannah Stuelke’s quickness was not to be denied, however. She fueled a 7-0 Hawkeye run to bring things even at 27.
Stuelke was unstoppable with another lay-in off the glass, and Iowa fans were making noise after retaking the lead. Feuerbach checked out after a foul on Caroline Lau underneath, and Lau made 1-of-2 to cut Iowa’s advantage to 29-28. Sydney Affolter hit a three on her first field goal attempt a short time later, giving the Hawkeyes a 12-1 run and a four-point lead. A short time later, Walsh hit a big three to stem the tide, but she committed an offensive foul on the Wildcats’ next possession, sending the game to break with the ‘Cats down by one.
Coming out of the break, the ‘Cats struck first on a layup from Jones to retake the lead. After a timeout, Williams drew a shooting foul, splitting the free throws to slash the deficit to two. With Northwestern down four, Harter converted a tough and-one on the left baseline, making the free throw and reducing Iowa’s lead to one. Surprisingly, Stuelke missed a layup on Iowa’s next offensive trip, and she fouled Williams on the floor, sending Williams to the line with the Wildcats in the bonus. Williams made 1-of-2, keeping the game tied at 38. With under a minute to go in the half. Stuelke redeemed herself with a successful three-point play on a third foul from Walsh. Iowa went to the locker room with a 41-38 lead.
Both teams shot around 50% in the first half, and, surprisingly, the ‘Cats were 5-of-8 from three, a good sign for a squad that had shot just 27.9% from deep entering the game. Harter led the ‘Cats with nine points (all on threes), and Williams and Walsh added four rebounds apiece. For Iowa, it was Stuelke who led the way with 18 points and five boards.
The second half began with a nice scoop shot from Affolter to put Iowa up by five. Daley responded with a signature mid-ranger, and she added another layup to put Northwestern within one. Sullivan missed a couple of jumpers that could have given the ‘Cats the lead, and Feuerbach capitalized with a three to fire up the Iowa crowd. Still, it was Daley responding with yet another mid-range jumper. After another Iowa three, Sullivan drew a foul on Affolter, knocking down both free throws to slice the deficit to three. The deficit was 52-48 for the ‘Cats at the media timeout following a Grace Sullivan foul on Hannah Stuelke.
Stuelke cashed in on two free throws from Sullivan’s third foul of the game, and Olsen swerved to the rim for another two points for the Hawkeyes. Walsh drew a shooting foul on Iowa’s Taylor Stremlow, missing both free throws, but Daley picked up the offensive rebound and converted a successful three-point play off an inside layup. Jones made a nice move inside on a later possession, and, suddenly, the ‘Cats were trailing by just three.
Following an Iowa timeout, Taylor Williams, who had drawn a foul, made 1-of-2 free throws. After a mini-drought from both teams, Olsen hammered home a corner three to put the Hawkeyes up 59-54 with 1:38 remaining in the third quarter. Sullivan followed with a fadeaway jumper, but a nice pass from Stuelke set up a Guyton three-ball for Iowa. Neither team scored for the rest of the quarter, setting the stage for yet another close final period for the ‘Cats, who trailed 62-56.
Stuelke started the fourth quarter with a floater to put Iowa up by eight. Daley responded with an acrobatic two to quiet the crowd, but Affolter was money from three, swishing one on the left wing to create a nine-point lead. Lau canned one from the same wing on the opposite side, and after just 90 seconds of chaotic basketball, the teams went into a timeout with Iowa up 67-61.
Walsh picked up her fourth foul coming out of the break, and Harter fouled Affolter on a subsequent drive, sending her to the line for two shots both of which she made. Both teams sustained a brief field goal drought, and with Northwestern desperately needing a breakthrough, Olsen’s elbow jumper silenced the ‘Cats instead. Williams found a way to get two on a layup, but Olsen was too quick for the Wildcats, driving down the right baseline to put Iowa ahead 73-65. Daley’s mid-ranger clanged off the back iron, and Feuerbach’s drive induced a Wildcat shooting foul with 4:01 to go in the fourth. She made both, giving Iowa a 10-point edge.
A foul on Caroline Lau sent the Hawkeyes into the bonus, and Lucy Olsen capitalized, making both free throws to move up to 16 points on the night. Once again, it seemed as though Northwestern was slowly letting a conference game slip away in the fourth quarter, but Lau hit a tough corner three to cut the deficit to single digits again. Walsh swished a floater off an excellent move on the baseline, and, suddenly, the Hawkeyes took a timeout with Northwestern down 77-70.
Stuelke outfought Northwestern’s defense for a layup near the right low block, and the ‘Cats turned the ball over on the next possession, a brutal sequence for the team. Northwestern began to full-court press and did eventually force an Olsen three-point miss late in the shot clock. An Iowa foul sent Casey Harter to the line, and she made both free throws. Iowa ran down the shot clock again on its next possession, and Guyton drew a foul on her drive with 53 seconds to go.
Guyton knocked down both free throws to extend Iowa’s lead to nine. With Northwestern’s hopes growing slim, Wildcat head coach Joe McKeown used a timeout. The stoppage did boost Northwestern, as Lau hit a three, and the ‘Cats got a steal and a Taylor Williams put-back to cut the lead to four in an instant. Following a foul, Guyton made two free throws, boosting Iowa to an 83-77 advantage. Walsh nailed a three from the right corner to make it a one-possession game with 11 seconds to go. Stuelke drew a foul with 8.9 on the clock, and she made both free throws. A missed three-pointer from Lau was the nail in the coffin, and Northwestern fell short 85-80.
The ‘Cats will host Michigan State on Sunday at 2 p.m. CST.
In a tough battle on the court, Northwestern fell short yet again, extending their conference drought with a close 85-80 loss to Iowa. The Wildcats showed determination and fought hard throughout the game, but ultimately couldn’t secure the win. Despite their efforts, Northwestern struggled to contain Iowa’s offense and couldn’t capitalize on key opportunities down the stretch.
This loss serves as a reminder of the challenges that Northwestern faces in the competitive Big Ten conference. The Wildcats will need to regroup and refocus as they continue their quest to break their conference drought.
Stay tuned for more updates on Northwestern’s journey as they look to turn things around and secure a crucial conference win. #GoWildcats #ConferenceDroughtContinues

Chelsea continues to push for Bayern Munich’s out-of-favor Mathys Tel
Bayern Munich’s struggle to involve Mathys Tel in the squad is rather alarming, with the 19-year-old stuck at just under 400 minutes and 2 starts at the time of writing, more than halfway through the season. Tel has repeatedly emphasized his desire to succeed at Bayern and recently renewed his contract until 2029. But combine these struggles with Chelsea FC’s reported interest in the youngster, and, via @iMiaSanMia, Tel might eventually budge:
Chelsea are still pushing to sign Mathys Tel on a permanent deal. If Vincent Kompany continues to plan without him, then Tel could reconsider his decision to stay.
Remember, Bayern executive Max Eberl called him, in the official announcement of his contract extension, “an important foundation for the future of the team.” Selling the incredibly talented Frenchman less than a year after such statements would be a real kick in the teeth. But so would seeing Tel sitting on the bench for the entire season. What will it be? What is the plan to see Tel fulfill his obvious potential in Munich? As of now, it seems rather unclear.
Chelsea Football Club is not giving up on their pursuit of Bayern Munich’s out-of-favor midfielder, Mathys Tel. The Blues have been actively pursuing the talented youngster, who has fallen out of favor at the German club.Tel, who is known for his versatility and technical ability, has caught the eye of Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, who is keen on adding the young midfielder to his squad. Despite facing stiff competition from other clubs, Chelsea is determined to make a move for Tel in the upcoming transfer window.
With Tel looking for regular playing time and a fresh start, Chelsea could provide the perfect opportunity for the talented midfielder to showcase his skills in the Premier League. Stay tuned for more updates on Chelsea’s pursuit of Mathys Tel.

Valley sees sporadic rain, Winter Weather Advisory continues in northern Arizona
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A storm system, cut off from the main storm track, continues to spin over southern California without much forward movement.
It’s the system that brought some showers to the northern and western parts of the Valley earlier today. Surprise got .20″ of an inch of rain, Anthem and Cave Creek got .16″ of an inch.
No, Phoenix Sky Harbor did not get any rain, so we’re now at day 158 without measurable rain at the airport, two days shy of tying the all-time dry spell.
With the low-pressure system slowly moving toward Arizona, and drying out, we’re going to see a reduction in rain chances for the Valley tonight and Tuesday. On the back side of the storm, there is a chance for a brief, convective period of rain that could impact that Valley, but that chance is 20% or less. And as we’ve been saying about this storm, don’t expect significant rainfall amounts.
The Winter Weather Advisory continues in northern and northwestern Arizona above 5,000 feet until midnight tonight. Two to four inches of snow is possible around Flagstaff.
We have a report from Sedona of an inch of rain. And we could see snow tonight in Prescott and along parts of the Mogollon Rim.
Temperatures are dropping. We expect highs in the Valley to struggle to get into the low-60s the next couple of days.

Valley sees sporadic rain, Winter Weather Advisory continues in northern ArizonaAs the Valley of the Sun experiences sporadic rain showers, northern Arizona continues to be under a Winter Weather Advisory. The National Weather Service has issued the advisory for areas above 6,000 feet in elevation, warning of snowfall and icy conditions.
Drivers in the high country are urged to use caution while traveling, as slick roads and reduced visibility may pose a hazard. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and to take necessary precautions to stay safe during this wintry weather.
In the Valley, the rain showers are providing a welcome relief from the dry conditions, but residents are advised to be cautious on wet roads and sidewalks. Remember to drive slowly, leave extra space between vehicles, and watch for pedestrians.
Stay tuned to local weather updates for the latest information on the Winter Weather Advisory and any potential impacts on your area. Stay safe and stay warm!

President Donald Trump said that the construction of an Iron Dome-like shield for the U.S. is a top priority for him on Monday, calling for “immediate” work to be done on the project before signing an executive order.
Trump made the remarks at a Republican dinner in Florida on Monday, while commending his recently-confirmed Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. After landing at Joint Base Andrews that night, he confirmed that he signed an executive order regarding the Iron Dome on the plane.
“Pete Hegseth, who’s going to be great, by the way… I think he’s going to be fantastic,” Trump said at the event. “I know him very well. I think he’s going to be fantastic.”
“He’s what we need, to immediately begin the construction of a state-of-the-art Iron Dome missile defense shield, which will be able to protect Americans.”

The president added that Americans “protect other countries, but we don’t protect ourselves.” Trump also referenced that President Ronald Reagan was interested in the system during the Cold War, but Americans “didn’t have the technology.”
“And now we have phenomenal technology. You see that with Israel,” Trump continued. “So I think the United States is entitled to that. And everything will be made right here in the USA 100%.”
“We’re going next to ensure that we have the most lethal fighting force in the world.”
On Monday, the State Department said that a future Iron Dome is one of Hegseth’s many priorities.

“Other areas the secretary will study include reinstating troops that were pushed out because of COVID-19 vaccination mandates and developing an Iron Dome anti-missile system for the United States,” the statement read.
This wasn’t Trump’s first mention of an Iron Dome for the U.S. At the Commander-In-Chief inaugural ball on Jan. 20., Trump said that the project was on his radar.
“We’re also doing the Iron Dome all made in America,” Trump said. “We’re going to have a nice Iron Dome.”
The Republican leader also referenced the plan on the campaign trail in 2024.

“By next term we will build a great Iron Dome over our country,” Trump said during a West Palm Beach event on June 14. “We deserve a dome…it’s a missile defense shield, and it’ll all be made in America.”
President Trump continues to push for the implementation of a ‘state-of-the-art’ Iron Dome missile defense system in the United States. The President has repeatedly emphasized the need for enhanced missile defense capabilities to protect the country from potential threats. In a recent speech, President Trump highlighted the success of Israel’s Iron Dome system in intercepting incoming missiles and protecting its citizens. He praised the technology as a crucial tool in safeguarding national security and vowed to prioritize the development of a similar system in the US.
The President’s call for a ‘state-of-the-art’ Iron Dome missile defense system has sparked debate among lawmakers and defense experts. Some argue that such a system would greatly enhance the country’s defense capabilities, while others raise concerns about the high cost and feasibility of implementing such advanced technology.
As discussions continue, President Trump remains steadfast in his commitment to strengthening the nation’s missile defense capabilities. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

Russia on Sunday claimed its troops had captured Velyka Novosilka, a strategically important town in the Donetsk region, eastern Ukraine. The statement could not be independently verified, and Ukraine’s 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade said its troops had only strategically withdrawn from certain parts of Velyka Novosilka to avoid encirclement. “This does not mean that we have completely left the city, the fighting in Velyka Novosilka continues. All actions are aimed at minimising our own losses and maximum damage to the enemy.” The brigade said the withdrawal would make it topographically difficult for Russians to advance by making the river an obstacle. “The enemy … will have no peace, any movement is cut off by shells and drones.”
Russia also claimed it troops had taken control of the settlement of Zelene in Donetsk region. There was no independent confirmation. Zelene lies south of Pokrovsk where Russia has incurred mass casualties in a grinding campaign against Ukrainian defenders. In its latest Russia-Ukraine war assessment, the Institute for the Study of War said: “Russian forces recently advanced near Toretsk, Pokrovsk, Kurakhove, and Velyka Novosilka.”
Ukraine’s military said it destroyed 200 Shahed drones in an attack on warehouses in the Oryol region of Russia. “Concrete structures were hit, where thermobaric warheads, which are used to equip drones, were stored. There is information about a strong secondary detonation.”
Ukraine on Sunday claimed a further successful drone strike on the Ryazan oil refinery south-east of Moscow. It was the second attack on the same site in less that two weeks. Kyiv said the refinery is one of the four largest in Russia and is used by Moscow’s air force. “Explosions and a fire were recorded in the targeted area,” it said. The Russian regional governor in Ryazan – Pavel Malkov – said Russian air defence had “destroyed” drones over the region and that authorities were assessing the damage. Russian officials routinely falsely claim that all attacking drones were destroyed and any damage was only caused by falling debris.
An undersea fibre optic cable between Latvia and Sweden was damaged on Sunday, likely as a result of external influence, Latvia said, prompting Nato to deploy patrol ships to the area and triggering a sabotage investigation by Swedish authorities. Nato was coordinating military ships and aircraft under its recently deployed mission, dubbed Baltic Sentry. The effort follows a string of incidents in which power cables, telecom links and gas pipelines have been damaged in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has taken a new turn as Moscow claims control of the town of Velyka Novosilka. However, Ukrainian forces are disputing this claim, stating that the fight for control of the town is far from over. The town of Velyka Novosilka has been a key battleground in the conflict between Ukrainian forces and Russian-backed separatists. The area has seen heavy fighting in recent weeks, with both sides vying for control of the strategic town.
Moscow’s claim of control over Velyka Novosilka comes as a blow to Ukrainian forces, who have been fighting to maintain control of the town. However, Ukrainian officials have stated that their forces are still engaged in fierce fighting in the area and are determined to retake control of Velyka Novosilka.
The situation in Ukraine remains fluid, with both sides continuing to engage in violent clashes. The international community has called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, but the fighting shows no signs of abating.
As the conflict in Ukraine rages on, the people of Velyka Novosilka are caught in the crossfire, with their town becoming a symbol of the ongoing struggle for control in the region. The ultimate outcome of the fighting in Velyka Novosilka remains uncertain, but one thing is clear – the fight for control of the town is far from over.
