  • The Houston Rockets Need Cam Whitmore’s Bench Production to Continuing Winning

For most of the season, Cam Whitmore has been on the outside looking in. After a successful rookie campaign, many thought Whitmore would have an even bigger role on the team this season. For the most part, that has not been the case, as Whitmore bounced between the G League and the Rockets.

Whitmore played in one game from Nov. 4 until Dec. 14. Even before November 4th, he struggled on the court, starting the season 1-21 from 3-point range. This was a bit of a shock to many, as Whitmore showed for most of his rookie season that he could be a reliable shooter from 3-point range.

That prompted the Rockets to send Whitmore down to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets G League affiliate. Whitmore played 11 games for the Vipers this season, and, as expected, it didn’t take long for him to show he was too good for the G League.

Whitmore has been back with the Rockets since Dec. 19 and is averaging 12.4 points on 42.1 percent shooting from beyond the arch. During that period Whitmore is second on the team in 3-point shooting percentage only behind Jae’Sean Tate.

Whitmore was almost a point-per-minute player for the Rockets last season and is starting to show signs this season that he can again be that player. However, for as much success as they have had this season, the Rockets still lack explosive scorers.

Whitmore is so important; he can provide that off the bench. He showed that again last night as he was one of the reasons the Rockets were able to stay in the game with the Memphis Grizzlies as he provided a spark off the bench.

That spark eventually led to the Rockets pulling out a comeback win over the Grizzlies 120-118. Whitmore finished with 16 points and was a game high plus 16. If the Rockets can continue to get this version of Whitmore the rest of the season they will continue to be a top two team in the Western Conference.

The Houston Rockets Need Cam Whitmore’s Bench Production to Continuing Winning

The Houston Rockets have been on a hot streak lately, and one of the key contributors to their success has been rookie Cam Whitmore. The young forward has been providing valuable scoring and energy off the bench, helping to propel the Rockets to victory in several close games.

Whitmore’s ability to come in and provide an immediate spark has been crucial for the Rockets, who have been dealing with injuries to key players. His scoring ability, rebounding prowess, and defensive intensity have all been instrumental in helping the team secure crucial wins.

As the Rockets continue to push for a playoff spot, they will need Whitmore to continue his stellar play off the bench. His production has been a difference-maker in close games, and his energy and effort have been infectious for the entire team.

If Whitmore can keep up his high level of play, the Rockets will have a much better chance of continuing their winning ways and making a strong push for the postseason. The young rookie has proven himself to be a valuable asset for the team, and his contributions will be key to the team’s success moving forward.

  • Congestion pricing NYC: NJ lawmakers say they are continuing fight against congestion pricing due to environmental impacts

Congestion pricing NYC: NJ lawmakers say they are continuing fight against congestion pricing due to environmental impacts

FORT LEE, New Jersey (WABC) — Congestion pricing is set to begin in New York City on Sunday, but New Jersey lawmakers aren’t giving up in their fight to stop it.

A press conference is planned for Thursday in Fort Lee.

Congressman Josh Gottheimer plans to stand with local representatives and community members to highlight the recent federal judge’s decision.

The judge ruled that the Federal Highway Administration must provide more detail on the environmental impacts of the tolling plan.

The judge noted the Bronx is getting tens of millions of dollars to clean the air from an expected increase in truck traffic over the George Washington Bridge — $15 million to replace diesel-powered transport refrigeration units at the Hunts Point Produce Market, $20 million to fund an asthma care center and $10 million to add air filtration systems to schools near highways.

But no such specifics exist on how to address expected pollution in impacted North Jersey communities, like in Bergen County -where an MTA environmental assessment showed that traffic increases would be greater.

“They were able to set with precision monetary amounts dedicated to relief in New York while providing no minimum amounts for mitigation for potentially impacted areas in New Jersey,” the judge wrote.

“The court must conclude that the FHWA (Federal Highway Administration) and Project Sponsors acted in an arbitrary and capricious manner in reaching their mitigation determination in the Final EA,” he concluded.

Gordon gave the Federal Highway Administration until Jan 17 to further detail the mitigation money going to places like Bergen County, so he can determine if it is being distributed fairly.

But MTA lawyers said since there is nothing in the ruling that specifically blocks congestion pricing starting, they will proceed early Sunday morning.

Thursday’s press conference comes as lawyers for New Jersey also filed for a temporary restraining order to stop the plan from going into effect.

Any delay could give its opponents an opportunity to stop congestion pricing for good. President-elect Trump has already said he opposes the plan and would end it when he takes office. Supporters are attempting to turn the license plate readers on and start collecting revenue before Jan. 20.

In a recent development, New Jersey lawmakers have vowed to continue their fight against congestion pricing in New York City, citing concerns about the potential environmental impacts of the policy.

Congestion pricing, which aims to reduce traffic congestion in the city by charging drivers a fee to enter certain parts of Manhattan during peak hours, has been a controversial topic among lawmakers on both sides of the Hudson River. While supporters argue that the policy will help to reduce air pollution and improve public transportation, opponents believe that it will disproportionately impact low-income and minority communities.

According to New Jersey lawmakers, the implementation of congestion pricing could lead to increased traffic in neighboring areas of New Jersey, resulting in higher levels of air pollution and negative health effects for residents. They have also raised concerns about the potential economic impact on New Jersey businesses that rely on commuters from New York City.

Despite these concerns, the New York State Legislature approved a congestion pricing plan in 2019 as part of a larger transportation funding package. The plan is currently awaiting approval from the Federal Highway Administration before it can be implemented.

As the debate over congestion pricing continues, it remains to be seen whether New Jersey lawmakers will be successful in their efforts to block the policy. Stay tuned for further updates on this ongoing issue.

  • Art Cashin’s Sons Honor NYSE Legend by Continuing New Year’s Poem Tradition

Art Cashin’s Sons Honor NYSE Legend by Continuing New Year’s Poem Tradition

In a touching tribute to a New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) legend, Art Cashin’s sons, John and Thomas Cashin, continued the beloved tradition of reciting a New Year’s poem to mark the close of the trading day on December 31st.

This annual ritual, started by their father, has become a cherished moment on Wall Street, blending reflection, humor, and insight as traders prepare to ring in the new year.

For decades, Art Cashin, who was a floor broker at the NYSE and a respected market strategist, would recite a carefully chosen poem that captured the essence of the year past while offering a glimpse of hope and foresight for the year to come.

His wisdom and wit made these poems a favorite among traders, with many seeing it as a symbolic moment that tied together the fast-paced, often turbulent world of finance with a sense of humanity and tradition.

Following Art Cashin’s passing in 2022, his sons made a heartfelt decision to uphold this family legacy.

Each year since, John and Thomas Cashin have gathered in the NYSE’s bustling trading floor, standing in their father’s place and delivering their own renditions of the poem that became so much more than just a Wall Street tradition — it became a moment of emotional connection for the entire community of traders, analysts, and spectators alike.

“We are proud and honored to continue this tradition our father started. It’s a way for us to reflect on his life, his work, and the legacy he left behind in the financial community,” said John Cashin, who, like his father, has worked in finance.

“The poem is a symbol of hope, a reminder that even amidst the ups and downs of the market, there’s always room for reflection and gratitude.”

This year’s poem was no different in its emotional resonance. Delivered with a mix of reverence and warmth, it reminded those present of the enduring values of resilience, optimism, and the power of perseverance — qualities that Art Cashin exemplified throughout his storied career.

The tradition, while steeped in personal significance for the Cashin family, has also become an annual highlight for the NYSE community. As the markets close on New Year’s Eve, the poem’s delivery acts as a symbolic bridge between the frenetic energy of Wall Street and the quiet moments of personal reflection that come with the dawn of a new year.

“Art’s poem was always a reminder that the market is just one piece of the larger picture,” said one NYSE trader who has witnessed the ceremony for years.

“It’s a way to pause and reflect, and that’s something we all need, especially in such a fast-paced environment.”

As the poem echoed across the trading floor on December 31, the Cashin family’s tradition stood as a powerful reminder of the human side of the markets and the enduring influence of Art Cashin’s legacy on Wall Street.

As 2024 begins, traders and financial professionals alike will carry with them the warmth of this annual ritual, knowing that the Cashin family’s tribute to Art’s memory remains a central part of the NYSE’s enduring traditions.

Art Cashin’s sons, Brody and Liam, are continuing their father’s New Year’s tradition by writing and reciting a poem on the NYSE trading floor. The tradition, started by their father Art Cashin, a legendary NYSE trader, has been a staple of the New Year’s celebration at the exchange for decades.

The Cashin family has been a fixture on the NYSE trading floor for generations, with Art Cashin serving as the head of UBS’s floor operations for many years. His sons, Brody and Liam, have followed in their father’s footsteps and are now carrying on his legacy by honoring him with their annual New Year’s poem.

The tradition began as a way for Art Cashin to bring some levity and humor to the often stressful and chaotic environment of the trading floor. The poems, which are usually filled with inside jokes and references to the world of finance, have become a beloved tradition among traders and employees at the exchange.

This year, as the Cashin brothers take the stage to recite their poem, they will be honoring their father’s memory and carrying on his tradition with pride. The poem is sure to bring laughter and joy to all who hear it, and will serve as a fitting tribute to a man who was not only a legendary trader, but a beloved father and mentor to many in the financial industry.

  • ASU continuing to feed off doubt on way to Peach Bowl

ASU continuing to feed off doubt on way to Peach Bowl

TEMPE — There’s only so long a team can feed off doubt the way ASU has all the way to Wednesday’s Peach Bowl agianst Texas. At some point, it just doesn’t have the same juice as before.

The Sun Devils have not reached that point, if you ask them.

“I wouldn’t say it gets old,” defensive tackle C.J. Fite said. “I mean, most people that are here have been underdogs our whole life. You build on it, you thrive off of it, you kind of get used to it. I’m not gonna say, like, you need it, but when you have it, it’s normal for you, so it’s like it’s just another day where it happens or people don’t believe you.”

Safety Xavion Alford, a former Longhorn and close friend of Texas’ Thorpe Award-winning defensive back Jahdae Barron, said outsiders’ refusal to give Arizona State credit powered this season’s run.

“It’s been like ASU is a car and, you know, the doubters have been the gas. We’ve been putting that in our engine the whole year. We’re sitting here 11-2 in the Peach Bowl, still doubted. You know, we love that,” Alford said. “That gives us, you know, extra edge (when) we go out to practice every day. You turn on the TV, turn on your phone, first thing you wake up in the morning, seeing ASU is doubted. OK, that’s cool. You’re gonna get up and attack the day.”

ESPN ranked all 52 teams to ever make the CFP after the field was set and it had ASU dead last. CBS and Sports Illustrated were more willing to give credit in their quarterfinal round reseeding, each listing ASU ahead of Boise State, but none others.

Furthermore, the betting line for the quarterfinal opened with the Sun Devils as 13.5-point underdogs, and the public has bet it down to 12.5-point underdogs, per FanDuel.

“We won the Big 12 Championship and people still got stuff to say. So at this point, it’s like keep doing what we can do and keep winning, ’cause we’re gonna have doubters,” linebacker Caleb McCullough added.

When asked what the players are most excited to show a more national audience in the CFP, all said a variation between proving the doubters wrong and showing what the culture of Arizona State is under Kenny Dillingham.

“It’s ain’t no pressure on us. It’s really all the pressure on them,” Shamari Simmons said.

What have the ASU leaders been telling the team heading into Peach Bowl?

The team has exhibited a high level of confidence entering the game, with Sam Leavitt declaring he’s the better quarterback in the matchup and Cam Skattebo saying ASU just needs to play the same football it has all year.

“We have to play our game. We have to constantly do what we do,” Skattebo said on Saturday. “We have to play the same game we played against Wyoming, we have to play the same game we played against BYU, we have to play the same game we played against Utah.

“We have to play the same football we’ve played all year, and if we do that, we’ll be just fine. We either blow it out or we keep the game close, why not? If we can play our game and fight until the end, I think we’ll be just OK.”

Skattebo said the game starts with setting the tone physically, both for him as a runner and for the offensive line that opens his lanes.

McCullough said practicing against ASU’s group has prepared the ASU defense to handle Texas’ physicality on offense, which features two dynamic backs in Quintrevion Wisner and Jaydon Blue.

As the Arizona State Sun Devils gear up for their highly-anticipated Peach Bowl matchup against the Pittsburgh Panthers, they continue to feed off the doubt that has surrounded them all season long.

Despite facing numerous challenges and setbacks throughout the year, including key injuries and tough losses, ASU has maintained a resilient and determined mindset. Head coach Herm Edwards has instilled a “prove them wrong” mentality in his players, and they have embraced it wholeheartedly.

With each passing game, the Sun Devils have silenced their critics and proven that they are a force to be reckoned with. Led by star quarterback Jayden Daniels and a tenacious defense, ASU has defied expectations and exceeded all odds.

As they prepare to face off against Pittsburgh in the Peach Bowl, the Sun Devils are using the doubt and skepticism as fuel to propel them to victory. They are determined to prove once again that they belong among the elite teams in college football and are ready to make a statement on a national stage.

So as ASU continues their journey to the Peach Bowl, they will carry with them the chip on their shoulder and the confidence that comes from overcoming adversity. And they will not rest until they have proven all their doubters wrong.

  • Browns LG Joel Bitonio Undecided On Continuing Playing Career, Will Not Seek Trade Or Release

Browns LG Joel Bitonio Undecided On Continuing Playing Career, Will Not Seek Trade Or Release

Browns star edge defender Myles Garrett will consider a trade request if, after speaking with Cleveland brass this offseason, it becomes apparent that the club is contemplating a rebuild. We subsequently heard that, since the Browns are not considering a rebuild and are eyeing a return to contention in 2025, the team is not overly concerned about Garrett’s comments.

Still, it is noteworthy that the Browns’ season has gone so poorly and created so much uncertainty that their best player – who is under contract through 2026 and who could land another lucrative extension this offseason – wants to hear about their future plans before making decisions about his own future. Likewise, the longest-tenured member of the Browns, left guard Joel Bitonio, would like to know where the team is headed before deciding whether to return for the final year of his own contract in 2025.

It’s hard to go out there and have three wins right now,” Bitonio said (via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com). “That’s been tough. It’s tough on your body. You just don’t feel as good on Monday when you lose a game. So it’s part of the process and you’d love to hear what the plan is going forward and kind of see where we’re at, see how much winning you can do.”

Bitonio, 33, was selected by the Browns in the second round of the 2014 draft, and aside from being a bastion of durability for most of his career, he has also been one of the league’s best interior blockers. From 2018-2023, he rattled off six consecutive Pro Bowl nods, a stretch that included First Team All-Pro acclaim in 2021 and 2022. Per Pro Football Focus’ metrics, however, his play has regressed a bit in 2024, as his 63.1 overall grade ranks 41st out of 74 qualified players and would represent the lowest mark of his career.

Given how good he has been throughout his lengthy Cleveland tenure, the Browns would surely love to have him back just the same, particularly since he is due just a $1.26MM base salary and $3MM roster bonus in 2025. But Bitonio has not yet made a decision one way or another.

We’ll see how we’re doing in a couple weeks after the season,” he said. “It’s very hard to make a decision when you’re in the middle of it, you’re going through the daily grind. So I’m going to finish the year as strong as I can and see how we feel in a couple weeks and go from there.”

While Bitonio would like to know the team’s 2025 plans, both at quarterback and in general, Tony Grossi of TheLandOnDemand.com interpreted Bitonio’s comments to mean that the decorated lineman’s decision as to whether he will retire or return to play out the last year of his contract will mostly be dictated by his health.

Truthfully, it’s mostly personal, just how my body feels going into another season,” Bitonio said, underscoring Grossi’s point. “The game, it’s an amazing game, blessed to play it, but it’s a stressful game, you put a lot on your body, how are you going to feel in 10 years or 15 years or 20 years?”

One way or another, Bitonio will not request a trade or release and will finish his career as a member of the Browns.

“For me personally, I don’t know what they’re thinking [with respect to quarterback plans], but I’m going to be a Cleveland Brown, I think, for my career,” he said. “So if I come back, whatever decision they make at quarterback is what decision they make. I’m not as young as Myles where you have some options other places. So for me it’s more going to be like how I feel personally, how my family feels and all that stuff.”

Cleveland Browns left guard Joel Bitonio has revealed that he is undecided on whether he will continue his playing career in the NFL. Bitonio, who has been a key cog in the Browns’ offensive line for the past several seasons, stated that he is currently evaluating his options and weighing his future in the league.

Despite his uncertainty about his playing future, Bitonio has made it clear that he will not seek a trade or release from the Browns. The 29-year-old offensive lineman has been a stalwart for the team and is highly respected by his teammates and coaches.

Bitonio’s decision will have a significant impact on the Browns’ offensive line, as he has been a consistent and reliable presence in the unit. His leadership and experience have been invaluable to the team, and his potential departure would leave a significant void to fill.

As Bitonio takes the time to consider his future, Browns fans will be eagerly awaiting his decision and hoping that he ultimately decides to continue his playing career in Cleveland. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation.

As the founder of the Sisters of Charity and the first Catholic school for girls in the United States, she dedicated her life to serving others and spreading the message of God’s love.

Today, the Seton legacy lives on through the Sisters of Charity, who continue to serve those in need and provide quality education to students across the country. Through their work in hospitals, schools, and social service programs, the Sisters carry on the mission of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton and inspire others to follow in her footsteps.

As we reflect on the life and achievements of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, let us remember her dedication to serving others and living out the Gospel message. May we strive to continue her legacy of faith, love, and service in our own lives, making a positive impact on those around us and spreading God’s love to all.

Let us honor the memory of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton by following her example and carrying on her legacy for generations to come.

Bears rookie Rome Odunze continuing to display rare ability

Odunze finished the game with four receptions for 77 yards, increasing his season totals to 51 catches for 701 yards and three TDs. He was also clutch Nov. 17 on the Bears’ final drive against the Packers when he caught passes of 16 yards on third-and-19 and 21 yards on fourth-and-3 on back-to-back plays.

“Rome has been consistent from Day 1,” said interim coach Thomas Brown. “When he’s had an opportunity to make plays, the guy constantly shows up. You’re talking about critical moments: fourth-down calls, two-minute drives, winning one-on-one. He’s a separator, has elite twitch, really good ball skills and is a really detailed route runner. I would say he’s been good overall.”

Williams and Odunze continue to strengthen a close bond that began in April. About a week before the draft, they held a throwing session in Los Angeles along with Bears receivers DJ Moore and Keenan Allen. Williams and Odunze later traveled on the same flight to Detroit for the draft, where they were selected by the Bears with the first and ninth overall picks, respectively.

Williams is happy that he and Odunze have embarked on their NFL journeys together.

“It’s been great, to be able to have a young guy with me like Rome, spectacular person, spectacular player,” Williams said. “Being able to have him here and grow with him and our relationship over the years is going to be vital for the team. To be able to continue that and continue to grow that is going to be really fun and really vital. He’s going to get better, especially with the guys he had here this year with him, Rome with DJ and Keenan, two guys who have been doing it for a while. I think it’s helping him being able to watch those guys and how they move and how they work.”

Odunze is just as excited about growing along with Williams.

“From the moment you step on the field with a great player like him, you feel that confidence and I think that you feed off of that from one another and I think that we do that well,” Odunze said. “But you’ve got to go out there and prove it on the field and we have to continue to do that.”

Bears rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze is quickly making a name for himself in the NFL with his exceptional talent and skills. Since being drafted by Chicago in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Odunze has continued to impress coaches, teammates, and fans alike with his rare ability on the field.

Odunze’s speed, agility, and route-running have all been on full display during training camp and preseason games, leading many to believe that he has the potential to become a standout player in the league. Despite being a rookie, Odunze has already shown a level of maturity and professionalism that is rare for a player of his age.

In a recent interview, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus praised Odunze for his work ethic and dedication to improving his game. Eberflus noted that Odunze has been a quick study and has shown a willingness to learn and adapt to the speed and complexity of the NFL game.

With the regular season quickly approaching, all eyes will be on Odunze as he looks to make an impact for the Bears on the field. If he can continue to display his rare ability and continue to develop as a player, there’s no doubt that Odunze will become a key contributor for Chicago in the years to come. Bears fans should be excited about the potential that Odunze brings to the team and the impact he could have on their success this season.
