  • Controversial holding, pass interference calls in Bills-Ravens turn up heat further on NFL officials

Officiating, as usual, remains an issue in the NFL playoffs with multiple games producing more than their share of controversy.

Sunday’s divisional round playoff game between the Ravens and Bills was no exception. A pair of calls had fans and players from both teams up in arms during the first half of Buffalo’s 27-25 win.

The first questionable call took place in the first quarter with the game tied 7-7. Buffalo had the ball near midfield, and Josh Allen found Curtis Samuel for an 8-yard gain on second-and-11. But officials whistled left tackle Dion Dawkins for a hold while blocking Ravens pass rusher David Ojabo.

Replay shows that Ojabo fell to the ground on the frozen turf in Buffalo and no evidence of a hold.

Alas, the Bills were penalized 10 yards and faced second-and-21 at their own 43-yard line instead of third-and-3 at the Baltimore 39. They punted two downs later after failing to secure a first down. The game remained tied at 7-7.

Then, as the second quarter came to a close, the Bills benefited from another controversial call. This time, officials flagged Baltimore cornerback Tre’Davious White for pass interference on a pass to Keon Coleman. But it was White who got shoved to the ground on the play.

White had man-to-man coverage on the go route down the left sideline. The two were hand fighting as Allen’s pass landed, and Coleman shoved White to the ground by his helmet. The pass fell incomplete.

With contact initiated by both players, officials could have deemed the play a no-call and moved on to the next down. Or they could have conceivably called offensive pass interference for the shove by Coleman. Finding defensive pass interference there is hard to explain.

But defensive pass interference was the call, and the Bills were granted a first down and an 18-yard gain to the Baltimore 12-yard line on the spot foul. A no-call would have brought up fourth-and-5 at the 30 and a potential potential 47-yard field-goal attempt in dicey conditions from Tyler Bass. Instead, the Bills scored a touchdown three plays later to extend their lead to 21-10.

The Ravens rallied to make it a one-score game in the second half. But the Bills held on after a late drop by Ravens tight end Mark Andrews on a two-point conversion attempt that would have tied the game.

If there’s any solace, each team benefited from a controversial call. But better officiating all-around would be the biggest benefit to both teams.

The officiating in the Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens game this past weekend has sparked controversy and heated debate among fans, players, and analysts alike. The game was marred by several questionable holding and pass interference calls that ultimately had a significant impact on the outcome.

One of the most controversial calls came late in the fourth quarter when the Bills were driving for a potential game-winning touchdown. On a crucial third down play, Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey was flagged for pass interference on Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs, giving Buffalo a fresh set of downs deep in Baltimore territory. However, many argued that the contact between the two players was minimal and did not warrant a penalty.

Earlier in the game, there were also several holding calls that drew scrutiny from both teams. The Bills felt that the Ravens were getting away with holding on multiple occasions, while Baltimore believed that Buffalo offensive linemen were guilty of the same infractions.

Overall, the controversial officiating in this game has only added fuel to the fire of criticism surrounding NFL officials this season. Many have called for more accountability and transparency in the officiating process, with some even suggesting that the league should consider implementing additional measures, such as expanded replay reviews or full-time officiating crews.

As the debate rages on, one thing is clear: the scrutiny on NFL officials is only growing, and every questionable call only serves to further intensify the spotlight on their performance.

  • Paddy Pimblett dragged off rival after nearly starting mass brawl with controversial choke hold

UFC star Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett squashed his social media beef with a rival in the most emphatic way possible.

A feud between Pimblett and Dennis Frimpong, who holds a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) record of 3-2, was ignited when the latter took a swipe at the Liverpudlian.

Pimblett decided he'd settle internet beef on the mats rather than with a keyboard

When a fan stated they hoped to see Pimblett on the upcoming UFC London card in March – which has since been revealed and he is not a part of – Frimpong replied: “He won’t be fit for the Vegas event let alone the London one.”

Pimblett seemingly caught wind of Frimpong’s comment and didn’t take kindly, as the two went back-and-forth in their personal messages.

They ultimately decided to settle their dispute in the only way they knew.

Pimblett ventured over to Manchester Top Team, where Frimpong trains out of, to squash their beef.

Neither man donned headgear which emphasised the seriousness of their scrap as they threw punches and kicks with serious intent, although they did have shin guards on.

There was plenty of interest in the feud too as fellow fighters, including Molly McCann, sat in a circle to watch the action unfold.

The two exchanged multiple strikes and kicks, but when Frimpong misses with a right hook, it spelt the beginning of the end.

Pimblett telegraphed Frimpong’s hook to perfection and ducked underneath before taking his rival down to the ground.

The pair continued to roll before Pimblett sat up and wailed down punches on Frimpong, who struggled to keep the UFC star off of him.

It wasn’t long before Pimblett took Frimpong’s back and from there, it was a matter of when, not if the former would end proceedings.

Pimblett quickly locked in a tight rear-naked choke that left Frimpong struggling for air.

Realising there was no way out, Frimpong conceded defeat and tapped out.

However, Pimblett evidently wanted to send a message to his rival as he refused to let go.

It took several onlookers to intervene and get Pimblett to release the hold.

Such was the tension, a brief push-and-shove broke out next to the fighters but nothing came of it.

Once the respective camps separated, Pimblett and Frimpong shared an embrace to signal an end to their feud.

Although Pimblett is not on the upcoming London card on March 22, his scrap with Frimpong proved he is in top condition as he awaits his next fight.

Pimblett has not fought since he submitted King Green, also known as Bobby Green, at UFC 304 in July last year.

The 30-year-old holds an impressive record of 22-3 and is riding a six-fight win streak in the UFC.

In a shocking turn of events at the latest MMA event, rising star Paddy Pimblett found himself in the middle of a potential mass brawl after putting a controversial choke hold on his rival.

The tension between Pimblett and his opponent had been building for weeks leading up to the fight, but things escalated quickly in the octagon. After securing a dominant position, Pimblett applied a choke hold that many deemed to be excessive and dangerous.

As the referee attempted to intervene, Pimblett’s rival’s cornermen rushed into the ring to confront him, sparking chaos and nearly starting a mass brawl. Pimblett was eventually dragged off his opponent, but not before tempers flared and tensions reached a boiling point.

The incident has sparked outrage among fans and critics alike, with many calling for Pimblett to face consequences for his actions. The future of Pimblett’s career is now in question as he faces backlash for his controversial choke hold and the near-mass brawl that ensued.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as more details emerge about the fallout from Pimblett’s actions in the octagon.

  • NFL Insider Debunks Rumor On Controversial Patriots Exec

One of the most maligned Patriots executives apparently hasn’t yet been shown the door.

Robyn Glaser, the Patriots executive vice president of football operations, has been a popular pinata for New England fans and even former head coach Bill Belichick, who was fired following the 2023 campaign. Belichick’s departure coincided with Glaser’s elevation up the ranks.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer on Thursday pushed back on a report citing Glaser was no longer with the franchise.

“She’s still there, I know that,” Breer said 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Zolak & Bertrand” show.

“Do I know what’s going to happen over the next three or four months? I don’t,” Breer continued. “She definitely has been an issue for people there. I don’t that her being gone would fix anything. It’s just as far as the root of the problems. She hasn’t been working that intimately in football over the last few months. But what’s there (the report) is wrong.”

    Story continues below advertisement

Barstool Sports’ Kirk Minihane, who’s well-known to Boston sports fans himself, shared Wednesday night that Glaser is no longer with the organization, citing sources.

There has been recent speculation surrounding a controversial executive within the New England Patriots organization, but according to an NFL insider, these rumors are completely unfounded.

In a recent interview with ESPN, the insider stated that there is no truth to the rumors circulating about the executive in question. They explained that the executive has been a valuable member of the Patriots organization for many years and has always conducted themselves with the utmost professionalism.

The insider went on to say that it is not uncommon for false rumors to spread in the world of professional sports, and that fans should be cautious about believing everything they hear.

As of now, the Patriots have not made any official statement regarding the rumors, but it seems that they are confident in the integrity of their executive staff.

It is important to remember that rumors are just that – rumors. Until there is concrete evidence to support these claims, it is best to take them with a grain of salt.

  • Premier League issue statement over controversial Anthony Gordon goal | Football | Sport

Premier League issue statement over controversial Anthony Gordon goal | Football | Sport

The Premier League have explained why Anthony Gordon’s goal for Newcastle against Tottenham was allowed to stand after a lengthy VAR check.

The ball hit Joelinton’s arm in the build-up to the goal after Lucas Bergvall attempted to flick a pass through to Pedro Porro, only to be intercepted by the Brazilian.

Bruno Guimaraes then laid the ball off to Gordon who fired an effort past debutant Brandon Austin in the Spurs goal, cancelling out Dominic Solanke‘s opener.

Many inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, including Ally McCoist on commentary for TNT Sports, expected the goal to be ruled out for handball, only for referee Andy Madley to point to the centre circle for a goal.

Ange Postecoglou erupted on the touchline, partly due to the decision to award the goal but also sloppy passing from Bergvall and Pape Matar Sarr to turn the ball over.

The league’s Match Centre has since explained why the goal was given, issuing a statement which read: “The referee’s call of goal was confirmed by VAR, who checked for a potential handball by Joelinton in the build-up and deemed that his arm was by his side, in a natural position and the contact was accidental.”

Dan Burn then found himself fortunate not to have been shown a second yellow card in the opening minutes, after he handled the ball to stop a Spurs counter.

Madley blew up for a foul but opted against brandishing another booking, despite clamours from the Spurs team to send Burn off.

All that chaos came in an opening 25 minutes which started with Solanke heading the ball past Martin Dubravka while new England head coach Thomas Tuchel watched on.

The striker’s smart run evaded Sven Botman, on his first start of the season, before finding the bottom corner with an emphatic headed effort.

Gordon then took his chance to impress Tuchel by firing past Austin, making his league debut for Spurs, in the absence of Guglielmo Vicario and Fraser Forster.

Postecoglou’s outfit has since moved to address concerns between the two posts. They are set to welcome 21-year-old goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky this month in a £12.5million move from Slavia Prague.

The hosts’ misery was compounded when Alexander Isak got the final touch on a Jacob Murphy cross and turned it past Austin to take the lead before half-time.

The Premier League has issued a statement regarding the controversial goal scored by Anthony Gordon during the recent match between Everton and Manchester United.

In a statement released on their official website, the Premier League acknowledged that there was significant debate surrounding the decision to award the goal to Gordon after it appeared that he may have been in an offside position.

After reviewing the incident with the use of VAR, the Premier League confirmed that the goal was correctly awarded as Gordon was deemed to be in an onside position at the time the ball was played.

The statement also emphasized the importance of VAR in ensuring fair play and accurate decision-making in matches, and reiterated the league’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the game.

Fans and pundits alike have been divided over the decision, with some arguing that Gordon’s goal should have been disallowed due to his positioning. However, the Premier League’s statement serves to clarify the ruling and put an end to the controversy surrounding the incident.

Overall, the Premier League’s statement reaffirms their dedication to maintaining transparency and accuracy in the adjudication of matches, and highlights the ongoing evolution of technology in football to ensure a fair and just outcome for all teams involved.

  • Controversial post lands ‘Squid Game’ star Park Sung-hoon in hot water amid national mourning for Jeju Air tragedy

Controversial post lands ‘Squid Game’ star Park Sung-hoon in hot water amid national mourning for Jeju Air tragedy

SEOUL, Jan 1 — Park Sung-hoon’s star was on the rise after his chilling portrayal of a villain in Queen of Tears and his much-anticipated role in Squid Game Season 2.

Fans were particularly impressed by his complex character in the survival drama, where he played a transgender woman — a role that initially sparked some apprehension but ultimately earned their admiration.

However, the actor’s reputation has taken a hit following a recent scandal involving an inappropriate Instagram post.

On Monday, Park inadvertently shared a parody of Squid Game featuring AV actresses on the cover of an adult film.

The actresses, depicted in an explicit parody of the show, were naked in the image.

Though Park quickly deleted the post, the damage was already done, with screenshots spreading across online communities and sparking outrage among fans.

The timing of the post only worsened the situation.

It came shortly after the tragic Jeju Air crash, which claimed the lives of 179 passengers, some of whom were K-pop fans returning from the 2024 Asia Artist Awards in Bangkok.

South Korea has entered a period of national mourning in light of the disaster, making Park’s post particularly insensitive.

Park’s agency, BH Entertainment, swiftly responded to the controversy, clarifying the situation.

They stated, “Park Sung Hoon received many DMs on social media and accidentally uploaded it while checking DMs. The actor himself is also surprised and apologises for making such a mistake in these times. He will be careful not to let something like this happen again.”

Despite this apology, many fans remain unconvinced.

“Is it part of Squid Game’s contract for the male actors to all be evil or something?” one user questioned.

Another wrote, “At this point, you have to be disgusting to be cast in Squid Game — like it’s some criteria.”

In response to his behaviour, some fans suggested a full cast change for the upcoming drama The Tyrant’s Chef, where Park is slated to appear opposite Yoona.

“No one. Save my Yoona pls, change the male lead pls, it’s not too late,” one comment read.

In a recent turn of events, Park Sung-hoon, one of the stars of the hit Netflix series ‘Squid Game’, has found himself in hot water after a controversial social media post amidst national mourning for the tragic Jeju Air plane crash.

The actor took to Instagram to share a meme that many deemed insensitive and inappropriate given the somber mood in South Korea following the devastating plane crash that claimed the lives of over 130 people. The post quickly sparked backlash from fans and netizens alike, with many calling for Park Sung-hoon to apologize and show more respect during such a sensitive time.

As a public figure, Park Sung-hoon’s actions are under intense scrutiny, and his misstep has certainly not gone unnoticed. The incident has reignited discussions about the responsibilities of celebrities in times of national tragedy and the impact of their words and actions on their audience.

It remains to be seen how Park Sung-hoon will address the situation and whether he will issue a formal apology for his controversial post. In the meantime, the incident serves as a reminder of the power of social media and the importance of using it responsibly, especially during times of national mourning.

  • Pam Shriver wildly speculates abuse, worried for Elena Rybakina after Kazakh re-hires controversial coach Stefano Vukov

Pam Shriver wildly speculates abuse, worried for Elena Rybakina after Kazakh re-hires controversial coach Stefano Vukov

Pam Shriver recently laid bare her concern for Elena Rybakina after the Kazakh confirmed the return of coach Stefano Vukov to her team for the 2025 season. Shriver speculated that Vukov had abused Rybakina during their previous working collaboration.

On January 1, 2025, Rybakina made the announcement of Vukov rejoining her coaching setup via an Instagram Story.

“Hello everyone, I am excited to announce that Stefano will be joining the team for the 2025 season. Thank you all for the support And wishing you a great 2025 “

This development was later reported by a popular tennis page on X (formerly Twitter), which prompted American former World No. 3 Pam Shriver to deliver her reaction. The 62-year-old bemoaned the situation, speculating abuse directed at Rybakina by Vukov previously.

“It’s time for our entire sport to finally stand up to known abuse and cult like manipulations of players. This is a very sad situation and my prayers are with ER,” Shriver wrote.

In the buildup to the 2024 US Open, Rybakina parted ways with Vukov following a successful five-year collaboration that yielded all eight of the Kazakh’s WTA Tour-level titles so far, including the 2022 Wimbledon Championships women’s singles crown. Not long after, Rybakina announced that former ATP No. 2 and Novak Djokovic’s ex-coach Goran Ivanisevic would be coaching her in 2025.

Rybakina and Vukov’s previous working relationship was often speculated to be an unhealthy one. There were rumors of Vukov being excessively tough in his approach to coaching Rybakina, during both matches and training sessions. These rumors gained further traction last year after the Kazakh withdrew from a number of high-profile tournaments citing health concerns.

However, Rybakina herself downplayed the speculation surrounding her relationship with Vukov ahead of the 2024 WTA Finals.

At a pre-tournament press conference in the buildup to the 2024 WTA Finals, Elena Rybakina spoke up about the rumors that cast doubt on her relationship with Stefano Vukov. The former World No. 3 was dismissive of them and stated that her decision to replace Vukov with Ivanisevic stemmed from her desire to enter a new phase in her career.

“I know that a lot of I guess rumors going on. But honestly we just part ways with Stefano. I think we had incredible results over five years. We achieved a lot. I started with him when I was 200. I think it’s just now next chapter of my career. I want to make next step. But yeah, I did stop with Stefano, like as any other coaches and players do,” Rybakina said.

The Kazakh is yet to reveal how the working dynamic in her team will change now that she has brought Vukov back into the fold. Right now, Rybakina is enjoying a hot streak at the ongoing 2025 United Cup, where she has spearheaded Kazakhstan to the semifinals.
