  • Justin Timberlake Dressed Up Like Beyoncé to Convince Her to Do 2008 SNL Sketch

Justin Timberlake says that, in order to convince Beyoncé to participate in a now-legendary 2008 sketch on Saturday Night Live, he had to dress up like the superstar, leotard and all.

The sketch, which aired on the Nov. 18, 2008, episode hosted by Paul Rudd, depicted three “backup dancers,” played by Timberlake and SNL cast members Andy Samberg and Bobby Moynihan.

In the bit, Rudd played the director of Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” music video, telling her he “hand-picked” the backup dancers, whom she hadn’t yet met.

“Oh look, don’t worry about the other dancers, B-Town,” Rudd says in the sketch. “These guys are pros.”

Timberlake, Samberg and Moynihan then make their entrance, each clad in a black leotard with tights and high heels.

“Hiiii, we’re the dancers,” they say, before the music is queued up and the routine begins.

As the song starts, Beyoncé begins her now-iconic dance, while the three men try to keep up.

Eventually, it comes to light that the men are Rudd’s stepsons, with his character saying, “My wife said I need to spend more time with them.”

Timberlake, who has hosted SNL five times, told the story of how the sketch came to be in Questlove’s new documentary Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Musicwhich premiered on NBC on Jan. 27 and is streaming now on Peacock.

According to Timberlake, it was Moynihan who had the idea for the sketch, which would take place while Rudd hosted and Beyoncé served as musical guest.

Timberlake had no plans to appear in the episode, until friend Samberg sent him a text, asking if he’d participate.

“He said Bobby Moynihan has this great idea for a sketch about you, me and him being Beyoncé’s background dancers that never made the cut,” Timberlake recounts in the documentary. “I was like ‘Full leotard’? And he’s like, ‘Yeah.’ I was like, ‘This is too funny. We have to do this.’ “

But Beyoncé herself wasn’t keen on the idea.

“She was very polite about it, but she was very hesitant. And when I say hesitant, I mean like, she was not having it,” Timberlake says. “I’m like: Does she know how funny this is gonna be? How beloved this whole moment will be?”

So, in a bid to convince her, Timberlake dressed up in the costume he and the others would be wearing.

“I put the leotard and the heels and the hose on and everything, and put a robe on,” he says. “I walked and knocked on her door, I threw the robe down and put my hands on my hips and she was like, ‘No you didn’t!’ ”

Speaking to David Spade and Dana Carvey on their Fly in the Wall podcast in 2024, Samberg said they encouraged Timberlake to be the one to ask her because “he’s very famous [and] she’s very famous so that would go better. And also it’s him being like, ‘I’m going to be in a leotard, we’re celebrating you.’ But she was delightful. She is such a sweet-hearted person, in my limited interaction with her. But that one was fun because we were like, there’s no way people are going to be mad at this.”

The rest, as they say, is history, with the sketch going on to delight audiences and become one of the most well-known to feature a musical guest.

Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music is available now on Peacock.

Justin Timberlake surprised fans this past weekend by dressing up as Beyoncé in an attempt to convince her to join him for a throwback sketch on Saturday Night Live. The sketch in question? The infamous “Single Ladies” dance routine from 2008.

In a hilarious Instagram post, Timberlake shared a photo of himself in full Beyoncé attire, complete with a sparkly bodysuit and long blonde wig. He captioned the post, “Just trying to convince Queen B to join me for a little SNL throwback. Who’s in?”

Fans went wild over the post, with many commenting that they would love to see Beyoncé and Timberlake recreate the iconic sketch. The pair famously performed the “Single Ladies” routine on SNL over a decade ago, and fans have been clamoring for a reunion ever since.

While it’s uncertain if Beyoncé will agree to Timberlake’s plea, one thing is for sure – fans would love to see these two superstars come together once again for a hilarious and unforgettable performance. Here’s hoping Beyoncé says yes!

  • Jose Mourinho Has ‘Called’ Tottenham Target ‘To Convince Him’ To Make Fenerbahce Move

Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho has ‘called’ Tottenham Hotspur target Milan Skriniar ‘to convince him’ to make the move to Turkey with the Yellow Canaries.

Tottenham are going through a terrible run of form and they are sitting 15 in the Premier League table after 22 games.

The club are working hard in the transfer market to try and give Ange Postecoglou new options, with injuries having bitten hard in north London this season.

Tottenham are interested in bringing in an experienced centre-back and Paris Saint-Germain’s Skriniar has been strongly linked with them.

Skriniar is also gathering interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray and Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.

And according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, former Spurs boss Mourinho has ‘called’ Skriniar personally ‘to convince him’ to join Fenerbahce.

Skriniar has been a bit part player for PSG this season and the French outfit might let him leave for the right price.

Galatasaray are particularly keen on the centre-back and they have held advanced talks with PSG.

Mourinho though could make a compelling case to Skriniar and tilt him towards Fenerbahce.

It has been reported that Jose Mourinho, the manager of Fenerbahce, has personally reached out to a Tottenham Hotspur target in an attempt to convince him to make the move to the Turkish club. The player in question has not been named, but it is believed that Mourinho sees him as a key addition to his squad.

This move comes as Fenerbahce look to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season, with Mourinho keen to make a statement in his first season in charge. The player is said to be considering the move, with the prospect of working under Mourinho proving to be a major draw.

It remains to be seen whether the player will ultimately make the move to Fenerbahce, but Mourinho’s personal intervention could prove to be a decisive factor in convincing him to make the switch. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing transfer story.

  • Phone call from NFL QB helped convince Michigan to hire OC Chip Lindsey

Phone call from NFL QB helped convince Michigan to hire OC Chip Lindsey

TAMPA, Fla. — Michigan coach Sherrone Moore liked new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey’s experience and fit, but it was a final nudge from Drake Maye that helped seal the deal.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Tuesday’s ReliaQuest Bowl vs. No. 11 Alabama (Noon, ESPN), Moore said the New England Patriots quarterback called him during the search process that linked Michigan to Lindsey, a 50-year-old veteran playcaller and quarterbacks coach.

Maye, the third overall pick in this year’s NFL draft, was coached by Lindsey during his final season at North Carolina. And while his stats dropped from 2022, there was plenty behind the scenes that Lindsey did that got him ready for the next level, Moore said.

“He felt like he progressed more in his career in that year more than at any point in his career,” Moore said. “He really felt like without him, he wouldn’t have gotten the chance to go so high in the draft. Getting that stamp of approval was really huge for me.”

Lindsey replaces Kirk Campbell, who was fired from his role earlier in the month after Michigan’s offense ranked among the worst in college football in 2024. The Wolverines are ranked 128th in total offense (294.3 yards per game) and tied for 111th in scoring (22.3 points), punctuated by a passing attack that really struggled.

More: QB Bryce Underwood like new Michigan OC’s past with Drake Maye

His resume includes stops at UCF (2022), where he coordinated the offense and coached the quarterbacks under Gus Malzahn (including incoming transfer QB Mikey Keene), a stint as head coach at Troy (2019-21), a previous run with Malzahn, and roles at Arizona State and Southern Mississippi.

“It was a long process, talking to a lot of different people, a lot of different coaches,” said Moore, whose candidate list began with 30 names. “Ultimately, (he was) the best fit from a scheme standpoint. He’s done a lot of different things, which we kind of needed.”

Moore said he doesn’t want the Michigan offense to go “too far from what we are and how we want to play,” but he was impressed with Lindsey’s track record with explosive passing attacks.

“The spread game, the RPO game, and I’ve been a part of that, seen that, but I wanted a different perspective of it,” Moore said. “But also a guy that wants to run the football. He had a 1,000-yard back this year (Omarion Hampton), and the year before that had Drake Maye. He molded to his best players.”

Lindsey arrives at Michigan with an offense in flux. Star tight end Colston Loveland, running backs Kalel Mullings and Donovan Edwards and the team’s best offensive lineman, tackle Myles Hinton, have all declared for the NFL draft, while the Wolverines landed five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 ranked recruit in the country.

His work with Underwood will be critical, but he’s no stranger to developing quarterbacks into NFL prospects, a list that also includes Jarrett Stidham and Nick Mullens.

But Maye remains his prized pupil, and made sure Moore and Michigan understood what they were getting.

“It was a factor,” Moore said. “Drake called me, too. It was a great conversation.”

Recently, Michigan football fans were thrilled to hear that NFL quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, played a significant role in convincing the Wolverines to hire offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey. In a surprising turn of events, Tagovailoa reached out to Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and shared his positive experiences working with Lindsey during his time at Alabama.

During their phone call, Tagovailoa praised Lindsey’s innovative offensive schemes and his ability to develop quarterbacks. He emphasized how Lindsey’s coaching had a profound impact on his own career and how he believed Lindsey could help elevate Michigan’s offense to new heights.

Harbaugh was reportedly impressed by Tagovailoa’s endorsement and quickly moved to secure Lindsey as the team’s new offensive coordinator. The decision was met with excitement from Michigan fans, who are eager to see the team’s offense flourish under Lindsey’s guidance.

With Tagovailoa’s stamp of approval and Lindsey’s proven track record of success, Michigan fans have high hopes for the upcoming season. It just goes to show that a simple phone call can make a world of difference in the world of college football coaching hires.
