  • Press Taylor to become the Bears’ passing game coordinator

The Bears are hiring Press Taylor as their passing game coordinator, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

Taylor spent the past three years as the offensive coordinator with Jaguars, working with Trevor Lawrence under head coach Doug Pederson. He now will work with Caleb Williams under head coach Ben Johnson and offensive coordinator Declan Doyle.

Taylor got his start in the NFL coaching ranks in 2013 with the Eagles. He worked his way up to quarterbacks coach in 2018 and added the passing game coordinator title in 2020. The Colts made him a senior offensive assistant in 2021.

In 2022, he became a coordinator for the first time.

Johnson will call the plays for the Bears’ offense, while leaning on Doyle and Taylor.

The Chicago Bears are in need of a spark on offense, and one way they could potentially jumpstart their passing game is by bringing in Press Taylor as their passing game coordinator.

Taylor, who has spent the past several years as the quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, has a strong track record of developing young signal-callers and maximizing their potential. He played a key role in the development of Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts, and his innovative offensive schemes could be just what the Bears need to take their passing attack to the next level.

With a talented group of receivers in Allen Robinson, Darnell Mooney, and Cole Kmet, the Bears have the pieces in place to have a dynamic passing game. By bringing in Taylor to oversee their passing game, they could unlock the full potential of their offense and make life easier for whoever is under center next season.

It’s time for the Bears to make a bold move and bring in Press Taylor to lead their passing game. With his expertise and proven track record, he could be the missing piece that helps the Bears finally take the next step on offense.

  • Bears hiring Press Taylor as pass game coordinator

The Bears plan to hire former Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor as their passing-game coordinator under coach Ben Johnson and offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, a source said Wednesday night.

Not every team has that role on its staff, though Thomas Brown had the title at the beginning of this season before moving up to offensive coordinator and interim coach.

Taylor, 37, spent the last three seasons as Jaguars offensive coordinator under coach Doug Pederson. When Pederson was fired and the Jaguars hired Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen as their new coach, Taylor became a free agent.

Taylor has no work history with Johnson or Doyle. He got his start in NFL coaching with the Eagles in 2013 under coach Chip Kelly and stayed on staff under Pederson.

Taylor was the Eagles’ quarterbacks coach from 2018 to ’20 and was their passing-game coordinator his last season. He was an assistant for the Colts in 2021, when Matt Eberflus was their defensive coordinator, before rejoining Pederson in 2022.

The Chicago Bears have made a big move in their coaching staff, hiring Press Taylor as their new pass game coordinator. Taylor comes to the Bears with a wealth of experience, having previously worked as the quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles.

With Taylor’s expertise in developing quarterbacks and designing effective passing schemes, Bears fans can expect to see an exciting and dynamic offense next season. This hiring also signals a commitment from the Bears organization to improve their passing game and give their quarterbacks the tools they need to succeed.

It will be interesting to see how Taylor’s influence shapes the Bears’ offense in the upcoming season. One thing is for sure – this hiring has generated a lot of buzz and anticipation among Bears fans. Stay tuned for more updates as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

  • This Defensive Coordinator Hire ‘Gonna Happen’

The New York Jets appear to be zeroing in on a defensive coordinator candidate.

Multiple recent reports indicate veteran coach Steve Wilks is the favorite to earn the job under new head coach Aaron Glenn. SNY’s Connor Hughes took things a step further on Tuesday, suggesting the hiring of Wilks is a foregone conclusion.

“First reported this shortly before Aaron Glenn was hired,” Hughes wrote in response to an X user calling for the Jets to hire Wilks. “Sounds like that’s gonna happen.”

Wilks, 55, held various NFL and collegiate coaching roles over the last 20 seasons, including defensive coordinator stints with the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers. He spent 2024 as a volunteer advisor at UNC Charlotte.

As for the Jets’ offensive coordinator vacancy, the leader in the clubhouse reportedly is Detroit Lions pass-game coordinator Tanner Engstrand. Los Angeles Rams assistant Nick Caley also is considered a strong candidate despite interviewing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator job on Monday.

With Glenn and Darren Mougey now installed as head coach and general manager, respectively, the Jets can put all of their focus on filling out the rest of the coaching staff. If recent reporting is accurate, New York already has settled on preferred hires for the two most important jobs.

Steve Wilks is back in the game.

The former Arizona Cardinals head coach struck a deal to become the new defensive coordinator with the New York Jets on Wednesday afternoon, according to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

He will join the Jets under new head coach Aaron Glenn, who was hired after a four-year run as the Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator.

Wilks did not work in the league last season, but was most recently the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator in 2023. The longtime defensive assistant spent one season as the Cardinals’ head coach in 2018, though he went just 3-13 there, and then took over as the Carolina Panthers’ interim coach briefly in 2022.

This post will be updated with more information shortly.

According to reports, the New York Jets are set to hire former Arizona Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks as their next defensive coordinator. Wilks, who was fired by the Cardinals after just one season, is known for his expertise in defensive schemes and his ability to develop young players.

This move comes as the Jets look to revamp their defense after a disappointing season. Wilks will be tasked with improving a unit that struggled in 2021, particularly against the run. His experience as a head coach in the NFL will bring a new level of leadership and strategic thinking to the Jets’ defense.

Fans are hopeful that Wilks can help turn the Jets’ defense around and bring them back to playoff contention. With his track record of success as a defensive coach, there is optimism that Wilks can make a significant impact on the team.

Stay tuned for official confirmation from the Jets on Wilks’ hiring and be sure to follow along for updates on how this move will impact the team’s defense in the upcoming season.

  • Jets to interview Chris Harris for defensive coordinator

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed at a Monday press conference that he will not call the team’s defensive plays and the team has started the process of finding someone who will handle that responsibility.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that Chris Harris will interview with the team on Wednesday. Harris spent the last two seasons as the defensive pass game coordinator and cornerbacks coach in Tennessee.

The Titans announced earlier this week that Harris will not return and that former Jets assistant Tony Oden will be filling his roles on Brian Callahan’s staff.

Harris has also spent time with the Commanders, Chargers and Bears since retiring as a safety and moving into the coaching rank after the 2012 season.

The New York Jets are set to interview former Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Chris Harris for the same position on their coaching staff. Harris, who has spent the past few seasons with the Broncos, is highly regarded for his defensive acumen and ability to develop young talent.

The Jets are in need of a new defensive coordinator after parting ways with Gregg Williams at the end of the 2020 season. Harris could be a strong candidate to lead the Jets’ defense and help turn around a unit that struggled at times last season.

Stay tuned for updates on the Jets’ coaching search and the potential hiring of Chris Harris as their new defensive coordinator.

  • Jets Reported Interested In Ex-NFL QB For Offensive Coordinator Job

A dark-horse candidate has emerged for the New York Jets’ offensive coordinator vacancy.

Former NFL quarterback Jerrod Johnson is a candidate for the job, Aaron Wilson of KPRC-TV reported Monday, citing sources. Johnson, who spent the last two seasons as the Texans’ quarterbacks coach, also is a candidate for Houston’s offensive coordinator vacancy after the franchise fired Bobby Slowik.

“Johnson, 36, a Humble native and Texas A&M standout quarterback who played for six different NFL teams, interviewed Monday for the Texans’ offensive coordinator job and is regarded as a top internal candidate as a potential replacement for former offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, according to league sources,” Wilson wrote.

“The New York Jets, now coached by Houston native and former Texas A&M All-American cornerback Aaron Glenn, are also expected to pursue an interview with Johnson, per sources.”

Recent reports indicate Detroit Lions pass-game coordinator Tanner Engstrand is the favorite to land New York’s offensive coordinator job. Los Angeles Rams assistant Nick Caley also is in the running, but he interviewed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday and hadn’t met with the Jets as of this writing.

Johnson spent six seasons in the NFL, enjoying stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears, Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys. He never appeared in an NFL game.

Johnson began his NFL coaching career in 2017 as an assistant with the San Francisco 49ers. He worked for the Minnesota Vikings from 2019 through 2021 before joining the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 as an assistant quarterbacks coach.

Of course, the biggest story surrounding the Jets is the future of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who’s status for next season remains unclear.

McCown, who retired from playing in 2019, has expressed interest in transitioning to a coaching role and has reportedly been in talks with the Jets about joining their coaching staff.
