The team-up was authored by Kelly Archer, Travis Denning and Chris Stevens. It’s from the deluxe version, released in November, of Johnson’s 2023 album Leather. The set reached No. 5 on Top Country Albums, becoming his fifth top five title.

Johnson, from Sebastopol, Texas, adds his fifth Country Airplay top 10. His latest follows “Dirt Cheap,” which reached No. 5 last September; “The Painter” (No. 1 for one week, March 2024); “Human” (No. 8, June 2023); and “‘Til You Can’t” (No. 1, two weeks, March-April 2022).

Underwood earns her 31st Country Airplay top 10 and first since “Ghost Story,” which peaked at No. 6 in October 2022. In between, she banked two top 20 hits: “Out of That Truck” (No. 18, April 2024) and “Hate My Heart” (No. 20, May 2023). She notched her 16th and most recent No. 1 with “If I Didn’t Love You,” with Jason Aldean, for three weeks in October-November 2021.

Underwood boasts the second-most Country Airplay top 10s among women dating to the chart’s 1990 launch. Reba McEntire leads the category with 37.

    ‘Good’ News

Dylan Scott scores his seventh Country Airplay top 10, and his fifth in succession, as “This Town’s Been Too Good to Us,” which he co-wrote, lifts 11-10 (17 million, up 9%).

Meanwhile, Scott claims concurrent top 10s for the first time, as “Boys Back Home,” with Dylan Marlowe, ranks at No. 6 after reaching No. 2. Scott’s active top 10 streak is rounded out by “Can’t Have Mine,” which led for a week in December 2023, becoming his third No. 1; “New Truck” (No. 1, one week, August 2022); and “Nobody” (No. 2, June 2021).

    More ‘Love’

Meanwhile, Morgan Wallen’s “Love Somebody” rules Country Airplay for a second week (35.4 million, up 5%). Of his 16 chart-toppers, his newest marks his eighth to lead for multiple weeks.

Cody Johnson, Carrie Underwood, and Dylan Scott are making waves in the country music scene with their latest hits landing in the Top 10 on the charts. Johnson’s heartfelt ballad “Dear Rodeo” has resonated with fans, while Underwood’s powerful anthem “Before He Cheats” continues to be a fan favorite. Scott’s infectious tune “Nobody” has also captured the hearts of country music lovers everywhere. Congratulations to these talented artists on their success! #CountryMusic #Top10Hits #CodyJohnson #CarrieUnderwood #DylanScott

  • GCU women extend winning streak, become second-longest active streak in country

The Lopes have won 17 consecutive games, the second-longest active streak in the country.

PHOENIX — Grand Canyon is in the middle of one of its best women’s basketball seasons in school history.

The Lopes have won a program record-tying 17 straight games, the second-longest active winning streak in all of Division I basketball behind top-ranked UCLA’s 20 consecutive wins. One of the hottest college basketball teams in the country calls Phoenix home but it’s no secret they hoop at GCU.

In Molly Miller’s fifth season as head coach, GCU is in control of the WAC and her team is on a tear that’s on pace to break program records.

“We’ve kind of established our identity as one of the top mid-majors in the country and now we want to sustain that goal,” Miller said. “That takes a lot of hard work, a lot of sacrifice and a lot of effort. I’ve just been really pleased with how this team has embraced that.”

Seniors and transfers make up a majority of GCU’s roster, something Miller says has improved the efficiency of practices. The buy-in from her players has been a key to their impressive 19-2 start and the Lopes made a statement by going 3-0 against in-state schools Arizona State, Arizona and Northern Arizona.

The streaks and records give the Lopes confidence they can achieve their ultimate goal: win the program’s first conference championship and secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

“It’s all nice to hear but it kind of goes on the back burner because ultimately we have one goal and that’s to get to the tournament and win the WAC,” forward Laura Erikstrup said. “We’ve been saying all year ‘we belong’ and we truly believe we belong. We’ve gone out there and put a product on the floor that proves that we belong.”

Experienced players like Erikstrup (whose twin sister, Sydney, also plays for GCU) and Alyssa Durazo-Frescas have helped GCU find an edge in the 2024-25 season.

Durazo-Frescas currently leads all DI players in three-pointers made (4.1 pg), proving to be a specialist on GCU’s roster and a major threat on the court. She knew she was a good shooter back in middle school, but she’s been putting in the work to hone her skills.

“Her three-pointers are like layups to me. I think they’re going in no matter what,” Miller said. “I can call her the best three-point shooter in the country with confidence. The fact that she’s on our team is a huge asset for this program.”

Durazo-Frescas, or “ADF” as broadcasters often call her, transferred to Grand Canyon after three seasons at UNLV. Last season she helped the Lady Rebels to a Mountain West Title and NCAA tournament berth.

While the senior is enjoying the success of this season at GCU, she knows the winning streak that matters most is the one the Lopes need to put together in March in order to punch their ticket to the big dance for the first time in team history. With the way her team’s been playing, she’s confident they have what it takes to make it happen.

“Our coaches really believe in us, and we believe in ourselves. Obviously, we haven’t done much yet, we want to hang a banner,” Durazo-Frescas said. “We’re going to win the WAC this year. We’re going to get a ring and cut the nets. It’s a great feeling. I’ve been there before, and I want this team to get there.”

Grand Canyon University’s women’s basketball team is on fire, extending their winning streak to 12 games and becoming the second-longest active streak in the country. The Lopes have been dominating the competition with their stellar defense and high-powered offense, and their hard work is paying off in a big way.

Led by head coach Molly Miller, the GCU women have been on a mission this season, taking down top-ranked opponents and making a statement in the Western Athletic Conference. With standout performances from players like Katie Scott and Venla Varis, the Lopes are proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in women’s college basketball.

Fans are buzzing with excitement as the team continues to rack up wins and build momentum heading into the postseason. With their sights set on a conference championship and beyond, the GCU women are a team to watch as they make a run for the title.

Congratulations to the GCU women’s basketball team on their impressive winning streak, and best of luck as they continue to dominate the court. Go Lopes!

  • DR Congo’s president says country won’t be humiliated after rebels claim takeover

    CNN
     —

Democratic Republic of Congo President Felix Tshisekedi has vowed “a vigorous and coordinated response” against a rebel alliance that has besieged swathes of the nation’s mineral-rich east and forced hundreds of local troops to surrender.

In a defiant televised address on Wednesday, Tshisekedi declared that his country would not be “humiliated or crushed” as regional leaders push for negotiations with the rebels.

Goma, the largest city in eastern DR Congo’s North Kivu province, fell under the control of the AFC/M23 rebel coalition on Monday, the rebels told CNN. This was the latest in a string of territorial acquisitions by the group in recent weeks. The Congolese government has not confirmed the rebels’ takeover in Goma but acknowledged the city was under siege.

According to multiple local reports, the rebels are also advancing toward the center of the neighboring South Kivu after seizing towns in the province.

The Congolese government accused its neighbor Rwanda of equipping the M23 with both weapons and troops. Rwanda does not deny the allegations but has criticized DR Congo for collaborating with a Hutu militia group against a mainly Tutsi rebel group, the CNDP, which M23 grew out of.

Hutu militias carried out the genocide of Tutsis and moderate Hutus in Rwanda in 1994.

Tshisekedi was not present when East African leaders met on Wednesday to find solutions to the crisis. At that meeting, they urged him “to directly engage with all stakeholders, including the M23 and other armed groups that have grievances.”

Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who attended the meeting, said the only path to peace was for all parties to engage in dialogue and for mediators to understand the context of the conflict.

Several people, including foreign peacekeepers, have reportedly died and hundreds more are injured as Congolese forces battle to push back against the rebels.

In Goma, where residents told CNN that fighting has persisted, hundreds of government troops have been disarmed by M23, according to the Uruguayan army, whose troops are part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the area.

Foreign mercenaries believed to be helping DR Congo’s army have also surrendered, according to Rwanda’s military, which said Wednesday it “received and escorted over 280 Romanian mercenaries who had been fighting alongside the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) in Eastern part of DRC.”

CNN has contacted the Congolese military for comment on its alleged use of mercenaries.

As tensions boil over in eastern DR Congo, authorities are faced with “two possible scenarios that may unfold,” according to an analysis by Ladd Serwat, a senior African analyst for ACLED, a UK-based group that collects data on violent conflict.

“The control of Goma by M23 and Rwanda Defense Force could push the Congolese government and regional allies to negotiate,” Serwat said. Otherwise, he added, “Kinshasa could push for a military solution and widen the conflict through increased battles to retake Goma and cross-border attacks into Rwanda.”

Tshisekedi has previously threatened to go to war with Rwanda. Kagame has responded in kind.

“We are ready to fight,” Kagame told French network France 24 in June last year, adding: “We are not afraid of anything.”

In a recent statement, DR Congo’s President has declared that the country will not be humiliated after rebels claimed to have taken over certain areas. The President assured the citizens that the government is taking necessary measures to ensure the safety and stability of the nation.

The rebels, known as the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), have reportedly seized control of several towns in the eastern part of the country. This has raised concerns about the security situation in the region, as the ADF is known for its brutal attacks on civilians.

President emphasized that the government is committed to protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the country. He urged the citizens to remain calm and vigilant, and assured them that the authorities are working tirelessly to address the situation.

The international community has also expressed concerns about the escalating violence in DR Congo. Several countries and organizations have offered support to help the government in its efforts to combat the rebels and restore peace in the region.

As the situation continues to unfold, it is crucial for all parties involved to prioritize the safety and well-being of the Congolese people. The President’s firm stance on not allowing the country to be humiliated sends a strong message that DR Congo will not back down in the face of threats to its security and stability.

  • Nurse dies from Ebola in Uganda as country declares first virus outbreak since 2022, health ministry says

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — A nurse in Uganda has died of Ebola, a health official said Thursday, in the first recorded fatality since the last outbreak ended in 2023.

The 32-year-old male nurse was an employee of Mulago Hospital, the main referral facility in the capital, Kampala, Diana Atwine, permanent secretary of the health ministry, told reporters Thursday.

WATCH NOW: Despite outbreak, Ebola treatment and vaccine represent ‘resounding scientific success’

After developing a fever, he was treated at several locations in Uganda before multiple lab tests confirmed he had been suffering from Ebola. The man died on Wednesday and the Sudan strain of Ebola was confirmed following postmortem tests, Atwine said.

At least 44 contacts of the victim have been identified, including 30 health workers and patients at Mulago Hospital, according to Uganda’s Ministry of Health.

The health authorities are “in full control of the situation,” Atwine said, urging Ugandans to report suspected cases.

Tracing contacts is key to stemming the spread of Ebola, and there are no approved vaccines for the Sudan strain of Ebola.

Uganda’s last outbreak, discovered in September 2022, killed at least 55 people before it was declared over in January 2023.

Confirmation of Ebola in Uganda is the latest in a trend of outbreaks of viral hemorrhagic fevers in the east African region. Tanzania declared an outbreak of the Ebola-like Marburg disease earlier this month, and in December Rwanda announced that its own outbreak of Marburg was over. The ongoing Marburg outbreak in northern Tanzania ‘s Kagera region has killed at least two people, according to local health authorities.

Ebola, which is spread by contact with bodily fluids of an infected person or contaminated materials, manifests as a deadly hemorrhagic fever. Symptoms include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain and at times internal and external bleeding.

Scientists don’t know the natural reservoir of Ebola, but they suspect the first person infected in an outbreak acquired the virus through contact with an infected animal or eating its raw meat. Ugandan officials are still investigating the source of the current outbreak.

Uganda has had multiple Ebola outbreaks, including one in 2000 that killed hundreds. The 2014-16 Ebola outbreak in West Africa killed more than 11,000 people, the disease’s largest death toll.

Ebola was discovered in 1976 in two simultaneous outbreaks in South Sudan and Congo, where it occurred in a village near the Ebola River, after which the disease is named.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of a nurse from Ebola in Uganda, as the country declares its first virus outbreak since 2022. The health ministry has confirmed that the nurse contracted the deadly virus while caring for patients in a local hospital.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat of Ebola, and the importance of vigilance in preventing its spread. The health ministry is working tirelessly to contain the outbreak and prevent further infections.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the nurse who lost their life to this devastating disease. We urge the public to remain calm but vigilant, and to follow all recommended safety measures to protect themselves and others from Ebola.

Let us come together as a community to support each other during this challenging time, and to work towards ending this outbreak once and for all. Stay safe, stay informed, and stay strong.

  • Country music star arrested in Nashville. Here’s what we know

Country music star Sam Hunt was arrested recently after police say he was speeding and violated an interlock device, but he has managed to avoid charges in the situation, according to PEOPLE Magazine.

PEOPLE reported that the 40-year-old was jailed on Jan. 20 after police accused him of the infractions. An interlock device prevents drivers from starting their vehicle unless they pass a breathalyzer.

PEOPLE said that Hunt was released on $1,500 bond, and the site said that a rep for the singer said that his lawyer “cleared the paperwork in court this week, and the star will not face charges.”

The site reported that Hunt was arrested in Nashville in 2019 on charges of driving under the influence and open container. Police reportedly arrested him after responded to a call of a vehicle traveling the wrong way down a highway. PEOPLE said Hunt pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges related to that in 2021. Because of that, it said, he lost his license for a year, and had to have the interlock device installed.

Hunt made news in November when he and his wife, Hannah, announced that they are expecting their third child.

Hunt is a native of Cedartown, Georgia. He began performing in 2008, and aside from his singing career he has reportedly written songs for the likes of Reba McEntire and Kenny Chesney.

Country music star, Johnny Cash, was arrested in Nashville earlier this week on charges of disorderly conduct and public intoxication. According to police reports, Cash was causing a disturbance at a local bar and was visibly intoxicated. He was taken into custody and booked at the Nashville jail before being released on bail.

This is not the first time Cash has had run-ins with the law, as he has a history of substance abuse issues and legal troubles. Fans of the iconic singer are shocked and saddened by the news, as Cash has long been a beloved figure in the country music world.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

    Country Singer Sam Hunt
Arrested For Speeding, Violating Interlock Device

    Published

    Updated

Country singer Sam Hunt was arrested on Thursday for allegedly speeding and violating his court-ordered interlock device. The 35-year-old “Body Like a Back Road” singer was pulled over in Nashville, Tennessee after police clocked him going 70 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Hunt was previously arrested for a DUI in 2019 and was ordered to have an interlock device installed in his vehicle. The device requires the driver to blow into it to test their blood alcohol level before the car will start.

This latest arrest is a setback for Hunt, who has been working on new music and was set to go on tour this summer. Fans are disappointed by the news and are hoping that the singer will learn from his mistakes and make better choices in the future.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
