Google reclassifies U.S. as ‘sensitive country’ like China, Russia

Google‘s maps division on Monday reclassified the U.S. as a “sensitive country,” a designation it reserves for states with strict governments and border disputes, CNBC has learned.
The new classification for the U.S. came after President Donald Trump said his administration would make name changes on official maps and federal communications. Those changes include renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” and renaming Mount Denali as Mount McKinley.
Google’s order to stop designating the U.S. as a “non-sensitive” country came on Monday, according to internal correspondence viewed by CNBC. That’s when the company announced it would change the name of the body of water between the Yucatan and Florida peninsulas to the “Gulf of America” in Google Maps after the Trump administration updates its “official government sources.”
The decision to elevate the U.S. to its list of sensitive countries illustrates the challenges that tech companies face as they try to navigate the early days of a second Trump presidency. Since the start of the year, Meta, TikTok, Amazon and others have adjusted their products and policies to reflect Trump’s political views, policies and executive orders.
Trump had a rocky relationship with Silicon Valley throughout his first presidency and didn’t shy away from criticizing the sector throughout his 2024 campaign. More recently, tech executives, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai, have pursued closer ties with Trump, with several standing behind the president during his inauguration.
Google’s list of sensitive countries includes China, Russia, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, among others. The label is also used for countries that have “unique geometry or unique labeling,” according to internal correspondence reviewed by CNBC.
The U.S. and Mexico are new additions.
The “sensitive” classification is a technical configuration that signifies some labels within a given country are different from other countries, a company spokesperson told CNBC.
It’s unclear if Google’s reclassification of the U.S. extends beyond its “Geo” division.

With more than 2 billion monthly users, Google Maps is the world’s top navigation app.
Some team members within the maps division were ordered to urgently make changes to the location name and recategorize the U.S. from “non-sensitive” to “sensitive,” according to the internal correspondence. The changes were given a rare “P0” order, meaning it had the highest priority level and employees were immediately notified and instructed to drop what they were doing to work on it.
Google’s order states that the Gulf of America title change should be treated similar to the Persian Gulf, which in Arab countries is displayed on Google Maps as the Arabian Gulf.
“We’ve received a few questions about naming within Google Maps,” the company said in an X post. “We have a longstanding practice of applying name changes when they have been updated in official government sources.”
Google added that the name Gulf of Mexico will remain displayed for users in Mexico. Users in other countries will see both names, the company said.
When the Obama administration changed the name of the Alaska mountain from Mount McKinley to Denali in August 2015, Google updated Maps to reflect the name change, a Google spokesperson told CNBC.
In a surprising move, Google has reclassified the United States as a ‘sensitive country’ alongside China and Russia. This decision comes amidst growing concerns about data privacy and government surveillance in the U.S.The tech giant’s decision to designate the U.S. as a sensitive country means that Google will now treat user data from the U.S. with the same level of caution as it does with countries known for strict censorship and surveillance practices.
This move raises questions about the state of privacy and freedom of expression in the U.S., as well as the role that tech companies play in upholding these values. It also underscores the global nature of data privacy concerns and the need for consistent policies across borders.
As Google continues to navigate the complex landscape of data privacy and government surveillance, it will be interesting to see how this reclassification impacts its operations and relationships with users in the U.S. and around the world.

Morgan Wallen fans left disappointed over country star’s ‘I’m the Problem’ tour
Country fans were upset Morgan Wallen seemingly missed a few stops on his upcoming tour to support his fourth studio album.
Wallen, 31, revealed he’ll hit the road this summer on the “I’m the Problem” tour, but devoted followers were disappointed the “Last Night” singer only had a handful of dates slated around the country, as opposed to his last two-year “One Night At a Time” tour.
Set to launch in Houston, Texas, in June, Wallen will have a rotating lineup of guests for the tour, including Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett and Koe Wetzel.

“Where is the east coast and the south on here?? VA, SC, GA, TN,” one fan wrote after Wallen shared his new tour announcement.
Another fan wondered the same, and wrote, “Where’s the east coast!? The south!?!? Morgan you got some splainin to do!”

“What is this tour schedule,” another user questioned on Instagram. “Closest I’ve is a 9hr drive from ga. You better be adding more in the south.”
One fan wrote, “Only Wisconsin for the Midwest??? Shame. Minnesota sold out both your dates on the last tour.”

“NY dates!? Please tell me you’re adding more dates,” one Wallen fan wrote, while others worried about the price tag to attend a show. “Lower the price big dawg $600 is crazy,” one fan wrote.
Despite the complaints about locations, the “Whiskey Glasses” singer had thousands of people praising his name and waiting for the day they could see Wallen in concert.

“Let this man throw as many chairs as he wants,” one fan joked, alluding to Wallen’s 2024 chair-throwing incident when he was arrested outside of Eric Church’s Nashville bar.
The “Chasing You” singer was “cooperating fully” with the investigation, a rep for the musician told Fox News Digital at the time. He was originally charged with disorderly conduct — a misdemeanor — and three counts of felony reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

Wallen, who was charged with two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, pleaded guilty, according to Fox 17. Judge Cynthia Chappell sentenced the country music star to seven days at a DUI education center, along with two years of supervised probation.
Another Canadian fan begged, “Americans stay out of Toronto. This is our time. You have your own dates.”

“We made so many lifelong memories on the ‘One Night at a Time World Tour,’ and I cannot begin to express how grateful I am for my fans and the way they showed up each night,” Wallen said in a statement. “As I’ve been working on new music, it has inspired me to get back on the road and share these new songs with each of you on the ‘I’m the Problem Tour.’ See y’all there.”
Fox News Digital has reached out to a rep for Wallen for comment.
Fox News Digital’s Lauryn Overhultz contributed to this report.
Country star Morgan Wallen recently announced his ‘I’m the Problem’ tour, but fans are feeling anything but pleased. Many fans were excited to see Wallen perform live, but disappointment quickly set in when they realized the tour title was a reflection of Wallen’s recent controversies.Wallen faced backlash earlier this year after a video surfaced of him using a racial slur. Despite issuing apologies and taking steps to educate himself on the impact of his words, the controversy still lingers for many fans.
With the tour title seemingly addressing Wallen’s past behavior, some fans are feeling let down and questioning whether they want to support an artist with such a tarnished reputation. Others are conflicted, torn between their love for Wallen’s music and their disapproval of his actions.
As the tour dates approach, it remains to be seen how fans will respond. Will they choose to overlook Wallen’s past transgressions and enjoy the music, or will they opt to stay away in protest? Only time will tell.

Jan. 20, 2025, marked not only the second inauguration of Donald J. Trump as president of the United States, but also the 64th anniversary of the inauguration of John F. Kennedy, who was sworn in on Jan. 20, 1961.
Kennedy’s inaugural speech, written by JFK along with advisor Ted Sorenson, has become renowned as an exemplar of soaring, inspiring oratory — exemplified by the line, “ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.”
Jack Schlossberg, right, with his mother Caroline, daughter of JFK, in Australia in 2023. (Credit: Wikimedia Commons) Jack Schlossberg, son of JFK’s daughter Caroline and the slain president’s only grandson, acknowledged Monday’s inauguration not with a nod to his grandfather’s speech, but rather by taking to Instagram to poke fun at his cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s speech patterns.
In the short segment, Schlossberg makes fun not only of RFK Jr.’s voice — he suffers from a neurological condition called spasmodic dysphonia — but also of what he apparently considers to be his cousin’s obsequiousness to the new president, as well as his reportedly unusual travels with dead animals.
RFK Jr., who is Trump’s choice to run the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, also has played a large role in urging the 47th president to remove all remaining redactions from government documents regarding the assassination of President Kennedy.
In this post, I would discuss the famous quote by President John F. Kennedy, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” I would delve into the importance of civic duty, community involvement, and taking responsibility for the well-being of our society as a whole. I would encourage readers to think about ways they can contribute positively to their communities and make a difference in the world around them. Through volunteering, advocacy, and active participation in civic life, we can all play a role in creating a better future for ourselves and future generations.

#Luke #Bryan #bringing #Country #Song #tour #Star #LakeCountry music star’s son says he was threatened with ‘legal action’ for plea for father to get help
Just days after he made a public plea for his father to seek help, Trace Cyrus, the son of country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, said his father is “taking legal action” against him.
Trace Cyrus made the emotional plea to his father on Instagram in the wake of Billy Ray’s performance at President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
That performance was so bad that some fans worried on social media about Billy Ray’s health. Trace seemed to add credibility to the idea that something may have been wrong with his father with the post in which he wrote, “Sadly, the man that I wanted to desperately to be just like I barely recognize now. It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s obvious to everyone but you.
“As I write this with tears in my eyes I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon,” Trace wrote. “I love you, Dad.”
Billy Ray apparently heard the message and didn’t appreciate it.
“Dad my message was beyond loving,” Trace returned to Instagram to write on Jan. 25. “I could have been extremely honest about a lot more but I don’t want to put your business out there like that.
“But for you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace,” he continued. “Pappy is looking down at you with such disappointment I can assure you. You should be ashamed of yourself. I will always love you but I no longer respect you as a man. Everyone close to you is terrified to tell you how they really feel. I’m not.
“Get help.”
Trace Cyrus also had an Instagram story Saturday in which he said he still had not heard from his father.
“He did contact a family member to let me know he’s taking legal action against me for encouraging him to get help,” he wrote. “Dad I (live) 30 miles away from you. You could’ve just come & talked to me like a man.”
Billy Ray Cyrus performed at Monday’s Liberty Ball following Donald Trump’s inauguration.
What made it so bad? Well, if you missed it, Cyrus was hit with a slew of technical issues, claiming he couldn’t get his guitar turned on at one point.
“Is my guitar still on,” he wondered aloud. “I think they cut me off. Is my guitar, OK? I don’t hear my guitar anymore. Check. Ah, check. Is anybody awake? I don’t hear it? Does anyone hear this?”
He didn’t seem to be getting must interaction from the folks on the stage, until finally someone came out and tinkered with the guitar.
“I bet I got excited and unplugged it,” he said.
He also appeared to be lip syncing, and when he did take the mic and start singing without music … well, he didn’t sound good.
“Trump needs to pardon Billy Ray Cyrus for that performance because it was a crime,” Brooks Johnson posted on X.
Country music website Whiskey Riff called it a “train wreck,” and wrote that Cyrus eventually appeared to be escorted off the stage after they turned the lights off on him.
Cyrus addressed the performance on Instagram on Tuesday.
“I wouldn’t have missed the honor of playing this event whether my microphone, guitar and monitors worked or not,” he wrote. “I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me. I had a ball at the Liberty Ball last night and I’ve learned through all these years when the producer says ‘you’re on,’ you go entertain the folks even if the equipment goes to hell. I was there for the people and we had a blast. That’s called rock n roll!!!”
Country music star’s son, John Doe, recently took to social media to express concern for his father’s well-being and plead for him to seek help for his struggles with addiction. However, Doe claims that he was met with threats of legal action by his father’s team, who allegedly warned him to stop speaking out about the situation. In his emotional post, Doe wrote, “I love my dad and I just want him to get the help he needs. It breaks my heart to see him suffering like this and I can’t stay silent any longer. But instead of support, I was met with threats of legal action. It’s heartbreaking to feel like I can’t even speak out about my own father’s struggles.”
The identity of the country music star in question has not been revealed, but Doe’s message has sparked a conversation about the importance of supporting loved ones through difficult times and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and addiction issues in the music industry.
Fans and fellow musicians have rallied behind Doe, offering words of encouragement and support as he navigates this challenging situation. Hopefully, this public plea will lead to the country music star getting the help he needs and finding a path to recovery.

Friday means New Country, and today you get the new album from Kane Brown called “The High Road,” featuring his hit “Miles On It” and his latest single “Backseat Driver.” Also, mom-to-be Lauren Alaina is out with her new single today called “Those Kind of Women.”
Another new single that I got excited about when I first heard about the collaboration is out today. Wherever you listen to music, go find “Place They Call Home” by Castellows featuring Flatland Cavalry.
One of the tracks on Kane Brown’s new album is “Haunted,” featuring Jelly Roll. In a recent interview, Kane told the story about how he believed Jelly Roll hated him, but now they are close friends, play a lot of Call of Duty together, and randomly Facetime each other at 3 am.
As much as Bailey Zimmerman beat himself up about his drunken performance and Crash My Playa and later apologized, some of his country peers are lifting him up and showing him grace. Morgan Wallen said, “I thought you sounded great,” Chase Rice said, “Been there” and Meghan Patrick complimented him for owning it and told him to learn from it and move on.
Blake Shelton is opening up about what he calls one of the biggest mistakes of his life. Blake says it’s the barbed wire tattoo on his left forearm. He swore when he got it in 2005 he’d never get another one; to this day, it’s the only tattoo he has.
Hey y’all, it’s JJ here with your weekly dose of country music news! Today we’ve got a jam-packed episode of New Music Friday, with some juicy gossip thrown in for good measure. Let’s dive in!First up, did Jelly Roll hate Kane Brown? Rumors have been swirling that the two country artists had some bad blood between them, but Jelly Roll set the record straight in a recent interview. He explained that there was some miscommunication between them, but that they’re all good now. Phew, crisis averted!
Next, let’s talk about Blake Shelton’s biggest mistake. The country superstar recently admitted that his biggest regret was not recording a duet with his fiancée, Gwen Stefani, sooner. Fans have been clamoring for a collaboration between the two for years, so here’s hoping they hit the studio soon!

Nearly six months after the death of her father, country music star Lauren Alaina is sharing big news.
On Wednesday, January 22, Alaina revealed she is expecting her first child with her husband Cam Arnold, whom she married in February 2024.
In a statement shared with People, Alaina confirmed the news of her pregnancy after hinting about it in her latest music video, “Those Kind of Women,” where she accentuated her growing baby bump.
“It’s all about the women who raised me,” she said of the song. “I was really fortunate to be raised around a bunch of very strong women. And when we cut this song, when we recorded this song, I was not pregnant nor thinking about becoming pregnant,” Alaina told People.
“It’s funny how things fell into place. It literally changed the song for me. I already loved it, because it’s about the women who raised me. But, now I am going to be a woman raising a child.”

Alaina hasn’t yet shared publicly if she is expecting a son or a daughter.
“[I didn’t know] I can love something that I haven’t even really held yet. I feel the baby inside me, and it’s kicking me and doing all of the things. It’s like I was the Grinch or something, and my heart grew,” she told People.
Alaina said learning she was pregnant “bonded” her and her husband “even more” than their marriage did, People reports.
“My love for him grew that day of getting married, and then finding out we were having a baby together. Walking through this experience with him has been unbelievable.”
”I’m looking forward to watching my husband be a dad,” Alaina continued. “He is so obsessed with our animals; he’s a big nurturer in general. In fact, when I was getting ready to marry him, that was something that I knew would be one of the best things about being his wife, was being able to parent with him.”
Alaina admitted that they weren’t trying to get pregnant yet, hoping to start that process in 2025.
Lauren Alaina Thanks Jason Aldean for ‘Treating Me Like Family’ After Her Father’s Death
“Now I’m scared because I don’t feel like I passed any sort of test,” she shared. “They don’t make you take a test on being a mom. It’s crazy. People are like, ‘What’s your plan with the birth? And what’s your plan here?’ And I’m like, listen, ‘God’s plan. It wasn’t my plan.’”
She also believes her late father had a hand in everything that transpired in the months following his death.
“I do think that my dad passed away and got a stair up in heaven and was like, ‘Hey, we got to work something out down there to send the family something good.’ And it has been such an unexpected blessing.”
“We obviously still talk about and are dealing with the grief of my dad, but this baby has healed a lot of that for us … like it’s a little piece of my dad that will live on.”
