  • Houston turns warmer and muggier for a couple of days before clear and cooler weather this weekend – Space City Weather

In brief: There’s a little something for everyone in today’s forecast. We’ve got clouds and some rain during the next couple of days before a nice stretch of sunny and low-humidity weather to take us through the weekend. Only thing to watch for is the low-end potential of some storms on Thursday afternoon.

    Wednesday

It’s a fairly dreary morning outside, with light, misty rainfall and areas of fog. This drizzle and fog may persist for much of the morning before we’re simply left with a layer of clouds. With a warmer, southeasterly flow in place we can expect temperatures to warm to about 70 degrees this afternoon, with increasing humidity levels. A chance of drizzle remains overnight, as lows only drop into the lower 60s.

NOAA storm outlook for Thursday and Thursday night.

    Thursday

This will be a fairly warm day, despite the cloudy skies, as high temperatures rise into the mid-70s with humidity to match. Some scattered showers will be possible during the morning hours, along with gusty southeasterly winds. During the afternoon, a cold front will approach the area, likely reaching Katy and Tomball an hour or two after noon. What I think we’re likely to see is a broken line of showers that may possibly fill in as it moves through Houston during the afternoon. There is a slight chance of some severe weather with the front, and this is most likely to occur as it passes to the east of the Interstate 45 corridor. This includes the potential for severe thunderstorms or damaging winds. (There is a very low-end chance of hail or a tornado). For most of us, the front should be a fairly modest event, with drier air moving in behind. Lows will drop into the low 50s on Thursday night with clearing skies.

Saturday morning looks to be the coldest of the week. (Weather Bell)

    Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Sunshine is back on the menu, along with a nice slug of drier air and sunshine. Winds from the north will be a bit gusty on Friday morning, but should back down after that. We’re looking at highs on Friday and Saturday of around 70 degrees, with temperatures at night falling into the mid- to upper-40s. Sunday will be a little warmer, with highs in the lower- to mid-70s, but still with plenty of dry air. I can’t wait to take a long bike ride and soak up some sun.

    Next week

The atmosphere turns a bit messier next week, but generally I expect we’ll see warm, partly sunny days with highs in the 70s, and nights with lows around 60 degrees. There may be some slight, daily rain chances. Some kind of front works its way toward Houston by the weekend, but an Arctic blast it will not be.

Hey Houstonians! Get ready for a brief spell of warmer and muggier weather in the next couple of days before clear and cooler conditions sweep in this weekend. According to Space City Weather, temperatures are expected to rise slightly with increased humidity, making it feel more like summer than fall.

But fear not, as relief is on the way. A cold front is set to move through the area by the weekend, bringing with it drier air and cooler temperatures. So, enjoy the warmth while it lasts, but be prepared for a refreshing change in the weather soon.

Stay tuned to Space City Weather for the latest updates and forecasts as we transition from summer to fall in the Bayou City. Stay safe and stay cool, Houston! #HoustonWeather #SpaceCityWeather #FallIsComing

  • Key Trump ally to announce run against leading Republican in ‘next couple of months’

Speaking to Republican Party members in Denton County Monday night, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a longtime ally of President Donald Trump, listed several Republicans he plans to purge from the Texas GOP for being insufficiently conservative.

Among those on Paxton’s list was Texas’ senior U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, one of the most powerful members of the Senate GOP.

The crowd erupted into loud applause as Paxton said, “The second thing we need to do, and I might play a role in this, is replace John Cornyn in the U.S. Senate.”

GARY PETERS, DEMOCRATIC SENATOR FROM TRUMP STATE, WON’T SEEK RE-ELECTION

The attorney general, who worked with the Trump team to file a lawsuit in December that successfully secured a court order stopping the Biden administration from continuing sales of border wall materials, has long hinted at a potential run to replace Cornyn.

“I can’t think of a single thing he’s accomplished for our state or even for the country,” Paxton said in a September 2023 interview on the Fox News Channel. And pointing to a possible Senate run in 2026, Paxton said, “Somebody needs to step up and run against this guy,” adding, “everything’s on the table for me.”

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Paxton gave more credence to the rumors, saying despite “loving what I’m doing … I’m looking potentially at the U.S. Senate.”

He shared that he is in talks with groups in Texas about a possible 2026 Senate run and will likely decide in the “next couple of months.”

Paxton claimed Cornyn does not represent the conservative values of Texans and accused him of not being an ally of Trump.

He has also regularly labeled Cornyn a “RINO,” a “Republican in name only” and an insult MAGA and “America First” Republicans have regularly used to criticize more mainstream or establishment members of the GOP.

PETE BUTTIGIEG GIVING ‘SERIOUS LOOK’ TO 2026 SENATE RUN IN TRUMP-WON MICHIGAN

Another source close to Paxton told Fox News Digital the attorney general “plans to spend the next few months meeting with voters, donors and grassroots activists across the state to gauge interest and decide how he can serve Texas best.”

The attorney general has faced his own set of challenges. In 2022, he defeated a primary effort by former Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush amid charges of bribery and corruption. In 2023, the Texas House of Representatives voted to impeach Paxton, but he was eventually acquitted of all charges by the state senate.

For his part, Cornyn, who has served in the Senate since 2002, has no intention of leaving the Senate. After serving in key GOP leadership positions, including chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, from 2009-2013, and Senate majority whip, from 2015-2019, he threw his hat in the ring to become the Senate majority leader in 2024, though he ultimately lost to South Dakota Sen. John Thune.

Cornyn, meanwhile, has said he will “absolutely” run again in 2026.

In recent months, he has also been a vocal supporter of Trump’s Cabinet picks and has slammed Democrats for delaying confirmations for key positions. In a speech on the Senate floor earlier this month, he said, “Our first and most urgent task is to confirm President Trump’s nominees for his Cabinet.”

With both considered leading Republicans and both holding significant support, any potential primary race between the two in the Lone Star State promises to be a dramatic — perhaps messy — showdown.

SENATE WILL ‘KEEP GRINDING THROUGH’ TO GET TRUMP TEAM CONFIRMED, JOHN THUNE SAYS

One of the primary questions that remains is whether the president would support his longtime ally Paxton or if he would, in the interest of preserving party unity, support a GOP establishment that has previously been criticized as “weak” and “ineffective.”

“The big question is whether Trump would support Paxton over Cornyn in a primary challenge,” Matt Mackowiak, a veteran Republican strategist and communications consultant based in Texas and Washington, D.C., told Fox News Digital.

“Cornyn’s never lost a race. Cornyn has a lot of support around the state. He’s traveled all corners of the state for a long time and is very well known and very well liked,” said Mackowiak. “We haven’t had a Republican senator lose a primary since Richard Lugar in 2004.

“As much as people sometimes think it’s doable, think it’s easy, think it’s inevitable, it really just doesn’t happen. But I’m not saying it can’t happen. I’m not saying that Paxton can’t win. I think he certainly has a decent chance.”

Mackowiak added that if Paxton runs, it “would be a massive race with national consequences.”

“You’d have national activists and money involved on both sides,” he said. “It could end up being one of the biggest primaries of the cycle and probably the most significant statewide primary in Texas since Dewhurst-Cruz [when former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz defeated Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst for the GOP Senate nomination in 2012 en route to winning his first U.S. Senate election] or it may not materialize at all. And I think it’s going to be several months before we know.”

Key Trump ally and former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows is set to announce his run against a leading Republican in the next couple of months, sources close to him have revealed.

Meadows, who has been a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, is reportedly eyeing a challenge against a prominent member of his own party who has been critical of Trump and his policies.

The announcement is expected to shake up the political landscape and further highlight the deep divisions within the Republican Party between those who continue to support Trump and those who are looking to move the party in a different direction.

  • A Couple Of Wolves Fans Learned Exactly Why You Have To Be Certifiably Insane To Chirp Steph Curry

    David Berding. Getty Images.

When the NBA season started, when you thought of a battle between GS/MIN, I imagine many thought that would be a game that took place between two contenders in the Western Conference. Unfortunately, that’s not exactly what we had last night, as both teams are fighting for their lives to get out of the Play In.

The beauty of the NBA though is that you can still have a wildly entertaining game between two Play In teams. The star power was there, the drama was there, and by the end of it we were reminded of a very good lesson both in basketball and in life.

You have to be certifiably insane to chirp Steph Curry.

This is true at any point of a 48 minute game really, but especially late in a close game. That, is a death wish. We’ve known that for years now after countless and countless Steph Daggers. At home, on the road, it doesn’t matter. I’d go so far as to say that he’s the #1 player in the league right now that you should never, ever, ever, even consider chirping. I don’t care how much you love your favorite team or how much you think it’s going to impact him. It’s not. In reality, he’s going to do what he always does and rip your heart out.

Our latest example came at the end of their win last night in MIN. Sure the Warriors blew their 25 point lead, but when it came time for someone to make a dagger, guess who rose to the occasion?

    Steph Curry

And wouldn’t you know, he was as ruthless as ever

Live look at these poor Wolves fans the second that ball left Curry’s hand

    Giphy Images.

How can you say you’ve seen Steph do this shit a million times on TV and then also think it’s a good idea to sit courtside and chirp him? You should know better! We have a mountain of evidence that tells you this is the worst possible thing you could do as a fan. You’re asking for him to make a dagger three right in your eye ball and then wiggle/celebrate/go night night right in your face. It’s what makes Steph Curry who he is!

It also didn’t help that Ant missed his chance at a game winning 3, but that’s because he’s not Steph. Once Steph hits the dagger on you, that’s it. The Warriors always find a way to win. This time it was because both Naz Reid and Rudy Gobert couldn’t get a rebound on a missed FT following that shot. The point is, the chirping clearly did not work

and maybe this is just me speaking from experience as someone who has also had his heart repeatedly ripped out via Steph Curry daggers, but you have to be legitimately insane to go the chirping route with him. He is NOT mentally soft. You don’t break Steph Curry, he breaks you. I get being a fan of your team and wanting to do your part to help them win, that’s normal.

It’s just that when Steph Curry is involved in this equation, your move is to shut the fuck up and don’t poke the bear. The more you chirp the more powerful he gets, and it results in shots like that. Now you’re going viral for all the wrong reasons.

My guess? Those two learned their lesson. Sometimes in life you need to learn things the hard way. You need to fuck up in order to realize you fucked up. Chirping this dude? Yeah, that qualifies as fucking up

Being a fan of the Minnesota Timberwolves can be a tough gig. With a history of underwhelming performances and missed opportunities, it’s easy to understand why emotions can run high when facing off against a team like the Golden State Warriors. However, a recent incident at a Wolves game showed just how intense things can get when fans decide to chirp one of the greatest players in NBA history, Steph Curry.

Two Wolves fans, known for their rowdy behavior and unwavering support for their team, decided to take their trash-talking to the next level when Curry stepped onto the court. They shouted insults, jeered every time he touched the ball, and even went as far as to bring up personal attacks about his family. Little did they know, they were about to learn a valuable lesson in humility.

As the game progressed, Curry showed why he is a two-time MVP and one of the most lethal shooters in the league. He effortlessly sank three-pointers, drove past defenders with ease, and put on a show that left the Wolves fans in awe. With each shot that swished through the net, their chirping grew quieter and their faces fell in disbelief.

By the end of the game, the Wolves fans had learned their lesson the hard way. Steph Curry had silenced their taunts with his performance on the court, proving once again why he is a force to be reckoned with. As they slinked out of the arena, tails between their legs, they realized that you have to be certifiably insane to chirp a player of Curry’s caliber.

So, the next time you find yourself at a Wolves game or any other NBA game for that matter, remember this cautionary tale. Chirping a player like Steph Curry may seem like a good idea in the heat of the moment, but be prepared to face the consequences if you do. After all, you never know when you might be facing off against a player who can back up their skills with an unforgettable performance on the court.

  • Joe and Jill Biden Depart the U.S. Capitol as a Former First Couple

Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden have departed the U.S. Capitol in one final grand exit after Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States.

Joe, 82, and Jill, 73, boarded the so-called “Nighthawk 46” helicopter shortly after 1 p.m. ET on Monday, Jan. 20, as they began their journey to Southern California after finishing their time in office.

Before Donald and Melania Trump gave the former first couple their final send-off, the Bidens gave a warm goodbye to former Vice President Kamala Harris and former second gentleman Doug Emhoff.

Biden’s final departure from the White House comes on the heels of his last Oval Office speech, delivered on Wednesday, Jan. 15, in which he warned about an ultra-wealthy “oligarchy” forming in the U.S. — without mentioning Trump by name.

“Today, an oligarchy is taking shape in America of extreme wealth, power and influence that literally threatens our entire democracy, our basic rights and freedoms, and a fair shot for everyone to get ahead,” Biden said, adding that there’s “a dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a few ultra-wealthy people and the dangerous consequences if their abuse of power is left unchecked.”

“I’m equally concerned about the potential rise of a tech-industrial complex that could pose real dangers to our country as well,” Biden continued.

Also on Jan. 15, the former Delaware senator shared a letter reflecting on his administration’s record from his time in office, saying “we have the strongest economy in the world and have created a record 16.6 million new jobs.”

“Four years ago, we stood in a winter of peril and a winter of possibilities. We were in the grip of the worst pandemic in a century, the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War,” he began the letter, per a White House press release, seemingly referring to Trump and the January 6 riots. “But we came together as Americans, and we braved through it. We emerged stronger, more prosperous, and more secure.”

“… History is in your hands,” he finished the letter. “The power is in your hands. The idea of America lies in your hands. We just have to keep the faith and remember who we are. We are the United States of America, and there is simply nothing beyond our capacity when we do it together.”

Both Bidens attended Trump’s inauguration on Monday, Jan. 20. Also in the audience were former Presidents Barack ObamaGeorge W. Bush and Bill Clinton and their spouses, with the exception of Michelle Obama, who previously announced she would not attend the ceremony after also missing Jimmy Carter‘s funeral last week.

In one of his final interviews as president, Biden also reflected on his legacy to USA Today, telling the outlet that he believes he could have won his bid for reelection had he not dropped out and endorsed Vice President Harris amid mounting pressure, but conceded that his age might have played a role in not being able to serve another term.

“It’s presumptuous to say that, but I think yes,” Biden said, adding that he didn’t know if he would have had the energy to continue serving as president.

“So far, so good,” Biden added to USA Today. “But who knows what I’m going to be when I’m 86 years old?”

The outgoing president also spoke about how he met with Trump ahead of his inauguration, and he spoke about urging Trump to not go after political opponents.

“I tried to make clear that there was no need, and it was counterintuitive for his interest to go back and try to settle scores,” he said, clarifying that Trump didn’t say much in response. “He didn’t say, ‘No, I’m going to …’ You know. He didn’t reinforce it. He just basically listened.”

“I hope that history says that I came in and I had a plan how to restore the economy and reestablish America’s leadership in the world,” Biden added. “That was my hope. I mean, you know, who knows? And I hope it records that I did it with honesty and integrity, that I said what was on my mind.”

On a chilly January morning, Joe and Jill Biden bid farewell to the U.S. Capitol as a former First Couple. With the inauguration of the new President, they left behind their time in the White House and embarked on a new chapter in their lives.

As they walked down the steps of the Capitol, memories of their time in office flooded their minds. From tackling the COVID-19 pandemic to advocating for social justice and equality, the Bidens had worked tirelessly to serve the American people during their time in the White House.

Despite the challenges they faced along the way, Joe and Jill remained steadfast in their commitment to making a positive impact on the country. And as they left the Capitol behind, they did so with gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the President and First Lady of the United States.

As they drove away from the Capitol, Joe and Jill looked towards the future with hope and optimism. While their time in office may have come to an end, their dedication to making a difference in the world would continue on. And as they departed the U.S. Capitol, they left behind a legacy of compassion, integrity, and leadership that would not soon be forgotten.

  • The Couple Next Door review: Good trash TV

The Couple Next Door often feels like a sloppy Wattpad romance come to life—that is, the British series, which premieres in the U.S. on Starz, is totally detached from reality. The show’s interest is in being glossy and provocative, plot holes or continuity errors be damned. And yet The Couple Next Door is oddly compelling for that very same reason, with its derivative scripts and heightened performances making for a bemusing experience. It’s not good TV, but it certainly is good trash TV.

Based on a Dutch drama, the show wants to tear down suburbia’s flawless facade through the lens of two married couples with very different lifestyles. When their worlds collide, it wreaks havoc on their relationships and exposes long-buried secrets. If this all sounds like a version of Desperate Housewives, know that it takes less than five minutes into the show’s premiere for a character to reference the ABC series. The Couple Next Door wants to be titillating and mysterious and even tosses in a Fatal Attraction-esque arc. But its erotic aspects come off as vanilla, and the thriller angle is executed poorly.

TCND unravels from the start when primary-school teacher Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson) and her journalist husband Pete (Alfred Enoch) move into a new home and quickly befriend their hot married neighbors, traffic cop Danny Whitwell (Sam Heughan) and his wife, yoga teacher Becka (Jessica De Gouw). How they manage to afford upmarket houses with those professions is anyone’s guess, but it’s one of many ways TCND plays out as a fantasy.

Immediately, Evie is attracted to Danny, with the two exchanging coy glances as he helps them unload their furniture. After suffering a tragedy, Evie and Pete come to rely solely on the Whitwells for support. And that level of comfort takes a fascinating turn after Danny and Becka reveal that they’re swingers. They’ve been in a happy non-monogamous marriage for years, a concept that intrigues the religiously raised and repressed Evie. Her interest in exploring these sudden sexual desires leads to complicated entanglements, with all four folks feeling different levels of lust and love for each other.

To give TCND a little credit, it does attempt to study Evie’s psychological damage as a woman whose strictly devout parents picked apart all her decisions. She’s been taught to be morally righteous and has only ever been involved with Pete. In front of her now lies real temptation so passion overtakes virtue. But the writing only scratches the surface of this before regressing into stereotypes. That said, Tomlinson is captivating as her character spirals from a goody two-shoes into an obsessive cliché. De Gouw is also a standout with an effortless performance that makes Becka seem like the only normal person in this group, warts and all.

Heughan and Enoch are fine, making the most out of material that doesn’t dare to give their characters much interiority or, in Pete’s case, even a personality and family backstory. God forbid the journalist has a life outside of chasing leads and sitting in a mostly empty office all day. The cast also includes comedian Hugh Dennis as Alan, who resides on the same street and is a grade-A perv stalking Becka. (Mild spoiler alert: A scene of Alan having a heart attack is the funniest moment of the show. And it’s this type of unseriousness that makes TCND weirdly watchable.)

The going gets tough once the erotic thriller angle—its saving grace— is shed in favor of laughably predictable, meandering subplots like Danny’s foray into corruption that ties into Pete’s investigative reporting. There’s also a glaring issue of producers not springing for extras because TCND is empty (in more ways than one) with barely any other people around. A lot of its storylines don’t end coherently either. Ultimately, The Couple Next Door is as mindless as it gets, but that’s exactly what makes it a bit of fun escapism.
