  • Steve Spurrier rips people who criticized Kirby Smart during 2024 season

Georgia finished the 2024 season 11-3 overall as the SEC champions despite falling short of their national championship goals.

It’s the first three-loss season since 2018, and are now two seasons removed from their consecutive national championships. When the Bulldogs’ lost 23-10 to Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl, it led to some criticism on social media directed toward head coach Kirby Smart, which Steve Spurrier believes is unfair.

“He won the SEC this year,” Spurrier, who has six SEC championship under his belts along with a national championship in 1996, said on Monday during Another Dooley Noted Podcast. “There are two goals when you’re in the SEC — you want to win your conference, and then if you’re fortunate, then you want to win the national [championship].

“Kirby [Smart] won the SEC. I remember Kirby saying that it may be harder to win the SEC than it is the national, because you’ve got to go through the SEC.”

Spurrier noted that it’s not uncommon to have the SEC Championship feature a rematch between two teams who met in the regular season. This year, it happened to be Georgia and Texas.

He also touched on the arguement that was made during the season about whether teams would even want to compete in the SEC Championship game given the new format for the College Football Playoff. A loss would add an extra game to the loses their schedule with a first-round playoff game while the other enjoys a first-round bye. Some believe this way of thinking diminishes winning a conference title.

Spurrier pushed back against this notion, praising Smart and Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian for their attitude toward the game in December.

“Winning the SEC is quite an accomplishment,” Spurrier continued. “… I mean, look around. Since 1990 Ole Miss has never won one. Lane Kiffin was worried about his guys getting hurt if they played in the SEC Championship. It doesn’t make sense, but Kirby [Smart] looked forward to it, and so did Texas. [Steve Sarkisian], he looked forward to winning the SEC.

“It’s amazing that all the other coaches would not have that attitude. … But conference championships are really, really important, in my opinion.”

Whether the perception of conference championships in relation to the CFP shifts in the future remains to be seen, but Spurrier remains firm in his belief that the SEC title specifically is one of the most coveted trophys a team can win during the football season.

Former University of Florida and South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier did not hold back when addressing those who criticized Georgia head coach Kirby Smart during the 2024 college football season.

In a recent interview, Spurrier expressed his frustration with the backlash Smart received from fans and media members, despite leading the Bulldogs to another successful season. Spurrier defended Smart’s coaching abilities and praised his leadership on and off the field.

“Kirby Smart is one of the best coaches in the country, and it’s ridiculous to see people questioning his abilities,” Spurrier said. “He has consistently produced winning teams and has earned the respect of his players and colleagues. Those who criticize him don’t understand the game of football.”

Spurrier went on to say that Smart’s track record speaks for itself, with multiple SEC championships and playoff appearances under his belt. He also commended Smart for his dedication to developing young talent and creating a winning culture at Georgia.

“Kirby Smart is a true leader and a mastermind when it comes to coaching football,” Spurrier added. “Anyone who doubts his abilities clearly doesn’t know what they’re talking about. I have no doubt that he will continue to lead Georgia to success in the years to come.”

Spurrier’s passionate defense of Kirby Smart serves as a reminder that even the most successful coaches can face criticism, but it takes a true football mind to recognize and appreciate their accomplishments.

    • READ MORE: Officials investigating New Year terror attack say multiple people are involved

ESPN reporter Laura Rutledge scolded a viewer after they critiqued her hair during her coverage of the delayed Sugar Bowl CFP quarterfinal following the New Orleans terror attack.

The 36-year-old broadcaster had been on the ground reporting from Caesars Superdome on New Year’s Day, which had been locked off while emergency services looked for explosives in the wake of the deadly attack which killed 15 and left at least 35 injured.

Providing an update on the hotly anticipated game between Georgia and Notre Dame, Rutledge had been explaining that the match had been postponed by 24 hours and that both teams were essentially on lockdown in their hotel.

‘No one is leaving [and] people are not going into those hotels,’ she said. ‘That is the best way of keeping everybody safe.’

One social media user, however, couldn’t help but blast Rutledge’s hair during her report.

Taking to X, they said: ‘Her hair looks horrible.’

But Rutledge wasn’t having any of it and replied to the nasty comment.

She clapped back: ‘Yes it does. I raced to gather information and hop on TV asap so threw my hair in a bun and haven’t worried about it.

‘People lost their lives and loved ones. No one is worried about my hair including me.’

Many applauded Rutledge for her comeback, while simultaneously hitting out at the mean social media user.

‘That man is a total vicious pig!’ one said. ‘He has no concept of what is important! You did a great job Laura and looked just fine.’

‘Great response,’ another wrote. ‘Although one was unnecessary.’

‘Thank you for always doing a wonderful job!’ a third said. ‘You raise the bar for humanity.’

A fourth added: ‘Don’t worry about that idiot. Your hair looks nice. You’re doing a great job, keep up the great work.’

The 2025 Sugar Bowl between Notre Dame and Georgia will start at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday.

The game was initially set to kick off on 8:45 p.m. ET on Wednesday night.

Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley released a statement sending thoughts and prayers to all the victims of the attack, while thanking those who have accommodated the new start time.

It read: ‘We have full faith and confidence in the governor and the mayor and all the federal, state, and local first-responders that they’ve applied to this horrific event.

‘Any time we have an event like the Sugar Bowl, public safety is paramount, and all parties involved agree that could only be achieved with a postponement.

‘Now we will move ahead to take care of the details to make the Sugar Bowl the first-class, fun, and safe event that it has been for over 90 years.’

Rich Clark, the executive director of the College Football Playoff, added: ‘On behalf of the College Football Playoff, we are devastated by this morning’s attack, and our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragedy.

‘We are grateful to the leadership of the Sugar Bowl, New Orleans, the State of Louisiana and federal authorities as we work together to ensure we can provide a safe environment for everyone.

‘We are also appreciative of ESPN’s flexibility in moving the game to tomorrow afternoon.’

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a US citizen born and raised in Texas drove an electric vehicle from Houston to Louisiana to carry out the deadly New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans’ French Quarter which killed 15.

Federal investigators believe he prepared the IED explosives at a nearby rental property.

In a recent segment on ESPN covering the tragic events in New Orleans, one viewer decided to focus on something trivial – the anchor’s hair. However, the ESPN star did not let this insensitive comment go unnoticed.

During the live broadcast, the viewer tweeted, “Can someone fix that anchor’s hair? It looks messy and unprofessional.”

In a powerful moment, the ESPN star responded on air, “I appreciate your concern for my appearance, but right now, we are focusing on the devastating loss of life in New Orleans. People have lost their lives, homes, and loved ones. Let’s keep the focus where it belongs.”

The anchor’s response not only shut down the viewer’s criticism but also reminded everyone watching of the importance of staying focused on the real issues at hand during times of tragedy.

It’s a powerful reminder that in times of crisis, our focus should be on supporting those affected and coming together as a community, rather than nitpicking trivial details.

Jennifer Love Hewitt’s physical change she is criticized for: “It hurts when people reject you”

Jennifer Love Hewitt, one of the most beloved TV actresses of the 1990s and 2000s, has faced backlash from some fans over how her appearance has changed with time. “People seem to have a hard time accepting that I’m not the same as I used to be,” the actress said in a recent interview.

Hewitt rose to stardom through iconic roles in series like I Know What You Did Last Summer, which is set to return to the small screen, and Ghost Whisperer. Her talent and striking looks made her a Hollywood favorite during her peak years. Now 45, Hewitt is grappling with the realities of aging in an industry—and a society—that often resists the natural progression of time.

    Fans cling to the past

In her interview with Fox News Digital, Hewitt reflected on how fans continue to associate her with the image they loved from decades ago. “I feel like fans pick an age they love, an age they think represents you, and they never expect you to mature beyond that,” she explained. “For me, it was like me and my 20s. people seem to have a really hard time accepting that… I don’t look that way anymore. Age is age. I think women really come into this… acceptance of themselves and comfortability in their 40s that is beautiful.”

However, she believes that society does not accept these changes or the passing of time: “It’s hard because I think as humans, we want to evolve… we want to have lines on our faces, and you know, our boobs be lower from breast-feeding our children, or you know, our butt’s bigger.“”

“Whatever it is, you just want to have the freedom to be whoever you are at that age. And it’s hurtful sometimes when people reject you as you are verbally on Instagram or the internet because they’re having a hard time adjusting to it.” the actress concluded, hurt by the rejection of her physical change.
