Saudi Arabia plans to invest $600 billion in U.S. over next 4 years, crown prince says in call with Trump
Dubai, United Arab Emirates — Saudi Arabia‘s crown prince said Thursday the kingdom wants to invest $600 billion in the United States over the next four years, comments that came after President Trump put a price tag on returning to the kingdom as his first foreign trip.
Mr. Trump’s 2017 trip to Saudi Arabia upended a tradition of U.S. presidents first heading to the United Kingdom as their first trip abroad. It also underscored his administration’s close ties to the rulers of the oil-rich Gulf states as his eponymous real estate company has pursued deals across the region as well.
The comments from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, reported early Thursday by the state-run Saudi Press Agency, came in a phone call with Mr. Trump.

“The crown prince affirmed the kingdom’s intention to broaden its investments and trade with the United States over the next four years, in the amount of $600 billion, and potentially beyond that,” the report said.
The readout didn’t elaborate on where those investments and trade could be placed. The U.S. in recent years has increasingly pulled away from relying on Saudi oil exports, which were the bedrock of their relationship for decades. Saudi sovereign wealth funds have taken large stakes in American businesses while also looking at sports, as well.
Saudi Arabia does, however, rely predominantly on U.S.-made weapons and defense systems, which could be a part of the investment.
There was no immediate readout from the White House on the call. It also wasn’t immediately clear if Mr. Trump’s call with the crown prince was his first with a foreign leader since re-entering the White House. However, it was the first such call to be reported.
The crown prince, the de facto ruler of the oil-rich kingdom, also spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio early Thursday.
On Monday after his inauguration, Mr. Trump talked about possibly heading to the kingdom again as his first foreign trip, as he did in 2017.
“The first foreign trip typically has been with the U.K. but … I did it with Saudi Arabia last time because they agreed to buy $450 billion worth of our products,” Mr. Trump told journalists in the Oval Office. “If Saudi Arabia wanted to buy another $450 billion or $500 – we’ll up it for all the inflation – I think I’d probably go.”
The 2017 visit to the kingdom set in motion a yearslong boycott of Qatar by four Arab nations, including the kingdom.
Mr. Trump maintained close relations with Saudi Arabia, even after Prince Mohammed was implicated in the 2018 killing and dismemberment of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul. The kingdom also had been talking for years with the Biden administration about a wider deal to recognize Israel in exchange for U.S. defense protections and other support.
The $600 billion pledge, which dwarves the gross domestic product of many nations, also comes as the kingdom faces budgetary pressures of its own. Global oil prices remain depressed years after the height of the coronavirus pandemic, affecting the kingdom’s revenues.
Meanwhile, Prince Mohammed also wants to continue his $500 billion project at NEOM, a new city in Saudi Arabia’s western desert on the Red Sea. It also will need to build tens of billions of dollars’ worth of new stadiums and infrastructure ahead of hosting the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

RIYADH: The third group of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Guests Program for Umrah and Visit toured several historical and religious sites in Madinah, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
As part of a cultural program by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the visit aimed to enrich the cultural experience of visitors and Umrah performers in the holy city.
The group, consisting of 250 pilgrims from 18 African countries, visited the Uhud site, Mount Al-Ramah, and the Uhud Martyrs’ Cemetery, learning about this historic turning point in Islam.
At Quba Mosque, the guests performed prayers and were briefed on its facilities and the ongoing expansion projects designed to increase capacity and enhance services for worshippers.
The guests also learned about the mosque’s historical and religious significance as the first mosque built after the Prophet Muhammad’s migration to Madinah.
Additionally, they toured the King Fahd Glorious Qur’an Printing Complex in Madinah, where they explored the technical and administrative departments and learned about the various stages of printing the Holy Qur’an and its translation into multiple languages.
The visit also showcased the complex’s efforts in recording Qur’anic recitations, interpreting its meanings, advancing Qur’anic sciences, and supporting Islamic research and studies.
The guests were introduced to the complex’s written and audio publications, which aim to spread Islamic teachings worldwide. At the end of the tour, representatives of the complex presented copies of the Holy Qur’an to the guests.
This third group is part of a larger initiative to host 1,000 male and female pilgrims from 66 countries this year. After their visit to Madinah, the guests will travel to Makkah to perform Umrah rituals.

Japanese boxing superstar Naoya Inoue comfortably retained the undisputed super bantamweight world championship Friday with a fourth-round knockout of South Korea’s Kim Ye Joon.
The 31-year-old power puncher, known by the nickname “Monster,” looked in control from the outset at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena against Kim, who stepped in as a late replacement for injured Australian challenger Sam Goodman.

Inoue inflicted early damage when he caught Kim below the eye with a right jab in the second, necessitating treatment for the South Korean between rounds.
Kim looked to answer in the third and had success with a solid combination around a minute into the round before Inoue reasserted himself.

The champion turned up the intensity from the start of the fourth and had Kim backpedaling before sending him down for the count with a devastating straight right 2 minutes, 25 seconds into the round.
Inoue improved to 29-0, including 26 wins by knockout, with his third defense of the undisputed crown since unifying all four belts with his victory over Marlon Tapales in December 2023. The 32-year-old Kim dropped to 21-3-2 with 13 KOs.

“I took a few more punches than usual, but that was due to my lack of preparation after the sudden change of opponent,” Inoue said.
“I was trying to figure him out in the ring, and my overall performance was very good.”
Inoue had originally been scheduled for a Dec. 24 fight with Goodman, the top-ranked IBF and WBO contender, before the Australian suffered a cut above his left eye, forcing a postponement.
Goodman pulled out completely on Jan. 11 after aggravating the injury, with Kim, who was ranked 11th by the WBO, stepping up to challenge Inoue in his place.
“I’m tired, not because of the bout but with what has happened over the last two months. It’s not been tough physically, but mentally,” Inoue said.
Fight promoter Bob Arum stepped into the ring after the match and announced that Inoue plans to fight this spring in Las Vegas. The boxer also revealed plans for a bout in Saudi Arabia.
“I’m aiming to fight overseas this year myself…so please stay tuned,” Inoue said.
“I don’t think I’m moving up my division soon. I believe I still need to fight in the super bantamweight.”
