    A sprawling Noho loft purchased by “Home Alone” star Macaulay Culkin as a teenager has sold for $7.75 million, city records show. As first reported by the New York Post, the full-floor loft at 704 Broadway was purchased by the former child star in 1999 for $1.75 million—about $3.36 million today when adjusted for inflation. The home features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a spacious L-shaped living area spanning the kitchen, dining, and living rooms.

    Formerly the headquarters of the Socialist Workers’ Party, the space was converted into a residence in the 1970s by Bruce Gitlin, a factory owner who secured the rights to the loft with the help of his real estate attorney and future wife Ellen Schrager.

    Culkin, now 44, purchased the loft at 19, during the height of his “Home Alone” fame. He bought the home shortly after marrying soap star Rachel Miner, whom he divorced three years later, and held onto the apartment for over 25 years.

    The sale was conducted off-market, keeping many details under wraps. However, in 2016, Culkin offered a rare glimpse of the stunning home when he showcased his art gallery there to New York Magazine.

    “The neighborhood was a lot different. There was a Wiz downstairs. Now everything’s owned by NYU,” Culkin told the magazine. “I’ll take walks at 2 or 4 in the morning, because there’s nobody out on the streets and it’s easy for me to go unnoticed.”

    Originally built in 1896 as the Dandy Hat Factory by DeLemos & Cordes—the architects behind Macy’s Herald Square—the building was later converted into a loft condominium known as the Dandy.

    Amenities include a full-time superintendent, a video intercom, and storage facilities. The building is situated close to Washington Square Park, New York University, and some of the city’s best dining and shopping options.

    The late David Bowie once owned a loft on the building’s ninth floor but never moved in. In 1998, the rockstar sold the residence to software executive Michael Odell for $1.85 million, according to the Observer.

    Culkin currently lives with his wife Brenda Song and their two children in a five-bedroom, six-bathroom home in Toluca Lake, California. The couple purchased it from Kiefer Sutherland for $8 million in 2022 in an off-market deal, according to the Post.

    At more than 4,800 square feet, and according to reports at the time of his purchase, the full-floor residence features three bedrooms, two bathrooms — plus an expansive L-shaped living area encompassing the kitchen, dining and living rooms.

    In 2016, Culkin opened his doors to his “sun-filled” apartment to New York Magazine showcasing his art gallery at the time.

    Culkin and Strong have appeared to tweak each other during award season interviews. During a Variety “Actors on Actors conversation, Culkin called out actors who call themselves “storytellers,” citing Strong specifically.

    “I object to when actors call themselves ‘storytellers,’” Culkin said last month. “I don’t really like that.”

    He added, “Sorry, Jeremy. I don’t think I’m telling the story.”

    Strong has also been questioned by Succession star Brian Cox for his extreme on-set commitment during the HBO series.     “Lately, people have felt a need to take shots at me or say disparaging things, which I don’t really think there’s any need for,” Strong said. “The way I approach things, my process. I feel we’re storytellers. … Those are actors telling story through character, which to me is the highest bar. That’s the holy grail for me, creating a character, which is sort of creating an instrument that’s never existed before… That’s the kind of acting that I love. And it does require a kind of, I don’t know, devil may care attitude towards what anybody might think of what you’re doing.”

    In a new interview with The Guardian, Kieran Culkin makes a point of saying that he doesn’t do drugs and never has—with one pretty major exception. In 2000, Culkin performed in The Moment When, an off-Broadway play written by James Lapine. There was apparently a prop spliff in one scene, which Culkin swapped with actual marijuana and didn’t tell anyone. This led to the “entire cast” getting stoned on stage, on the night that critics happened to view the production. 

     “I was 17 and stupid,” Culkin tells The Guardian. Apparently, there was a bag of prop joints, and the young actor had only swapped out one for the real thing, creating a sort of Russian roulette situation. But instead of brains splattered on the wall behind him, it was the unmistakable smell of reefer that was the tell that the game had ended. Culkin recalls thinking “Uh-oh. I believe it’s happened,” as he watched (and smelled) Mark Ruffalo smoking on stage. 

    At intermission, though, everyone seemed pretty chill about it. (Perhaps they would have been pretty chill about anything in the moment.) “I’m like, ‘I thought this was a good prank. I’m stupid. Oh my God, I’m so sorry.’ But actually, they loved it,” Culkin recalls. “Mark says, ‘I haven’t smoked pot in 10 years; the second half’s going to be so much fun.’ There was this other actor who had never smoked pot in her life. She goes, ‘Is this what being high is? This is lovely.’ And then Phyllis Newman comes in and goes, ‘I haven’t smoked pot since the 1960s. Thank you, darling.’” Everyone except the (presumably sober) stage manager, that is. “Then the stage manager comes stomping in and goes, ‘I don’t care whose it is, or what happened, but Kieran, give me the joint,” he says. “I sheepishly handed her the roach and she said, ‘Ruin your life on your own time.’” 

    Funnily enough, Ruffalo has told this story before, back on an appearance on The Graham Norton Show in 2012. Either because he’s a gentleman, or maybe because Culkin wasn’t Succession-level famous yet, Ruffalo didn’t name Culkin as the culprit and just referred to a “naughty young actor.” Regardless, he had a pretty good sense of humor about it then, too. “The girl that I was passing it to had never smoked pot in her life,” he recalled. “I had, up to that point, smoked a lot of pot.”  

    

    Years later Culkin did This Is Our Youth with Colin Hanks, and joked he would do the same thing to him. Hanks threatened to punch him in the face. But later in the run, he warmed to the idea, and when Culkin did in fact swap the fake weed with the real thing, Hanks apparently got so nervous he couldn’t even roll the joint. Aw! And thus ends Kieran Culkin’s experimentation with drugs. 



    In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, actor Kieran Culkin made a shocking confession: he claims responsibility for getting fellow actor Mark Ruffalo high. Culkin, best known for his role in the hit TV series “Succession,” revealed that the two actors were hanging out at a party a few years ago when he offered Ruffalo some of his personal stash.

    “I don’t usually do this, but I had some really good stuff on me that night and I thought, ‘why not share it with Mark?’” Culkin said in the interview. “I didn’t expect him to go all in, but he did and he had a great time.”

    Ruffalo, known for his roles in films like “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has not publicly commented on Culkin’s claims. However, Culkin insists that the experience brought them closer together and that they have remained friends ever since.
