  • Who Is Damon Wayans Jr.’s Wife? All About Samara Saraiva

Happily ever after came after Happy Endings for Damon Wayans Jr.

The Poppa’s House star met his future wife, Samara Saraiva, at a dinner where Wayans was actually being set up with her cousin. Despite not clicking immediately, the couple eventually started a relationship and married around 2016.

Wayans and Saraiva now share a blended family with six children, including daughters Amara, Aniya and Berlyn.

While he hails from a Hollywood dynasty and is a star himself, Wayans and Saraiva tend to keep their relationship out of the spotlight. But, that hasn’t stopped the New Girl alum from occasionally gushing about his wife.

“I’m like crazy about my wife,” he said in a 2018 BUILD interview. “I think she’s awesome and we have a lot of fun together.”

So, who is Damon Wayans Jr.’s wife? Here is everything to know about Samara Saraiva and her relationship with the actor.

The night Wayans and Saraiva met, he was actually being set up with her cousin at a “random dinner” in Miami.

In a 2020 interview with We Live Entertainment, the Love, Guaranteed actor recalled, “It was like me, her, a bunch of her friends, a bunch of my family and we didn’t really click that night. You know, like we talked a little bit.”

Wayans continued, “’Cause they were trying to set me up with her cousin and me and her just didn’t really get along either. Not in a bad way, just different kind of people.”

Soon after, they crossed paths again at a party and made each other laugh, which kicked off their relationship. “We’ve been together ever since,” Wayans said.

Wayans and Saraiva tied the knot around 2016.

While the comedian hasn’t shared many details about his nuptials with Saraiva, Wayans confirmed on Sherri in October 2024 that he and his wife had been married for eight years.

She fit right into his famous family

According to Wayans, it wasn’t hard for Saraiva to fit into his family dynamics.

The Poppa’s House star explained to Sherri Shepherd on her eponymous talk show in 2024 that the dynamic worked “’cause her family’s crazy, too.”

“They’re just as goofy. They make jokes all the time about people. Like they roasted me the first time they met me,” Wayans said, noting, “I roasted them back.”

Wayans revealed in a 2018 BUILD interview that he tapped into his marriage for his character on Happy Together.

“I do put a lot of how I feel about how my character feels about my wife in the show. I pull that from my actual relationship,” he shared.

She shares a blended family with Wayans

Wayans and Saraiva share a blended family with six children.

“I got a Biblical amount of children,” the actor joked on the Sherri show in 2024. Wayans shares two daughters, Amara and Aniya, with his ex Aja Metoyer. He also has a daughter named Berlyn, as well as three younger children, including one son. In October 2024, Wayans confirmed his youngest child, a girl, was 4 years old.

Although the family isn’t often pictured together, Wayans, Saraiva and some of their children attended the Big Hero 6 premiere together in 2014.

The actor has also opened up about how he and his wife parent together. During a shoot for PEOPLE’s 2024 Sexiest Man Alive issue, Wayans talked about his “perfect date night,” which involves roasting his kids.

He said, joking, “[My wife and I] lie in bed, turn off all the lights, and then we just roast the s— out of our kids up to the point where we’re laughing so hard.”

Saraiva has made red carpet appearances with Wayans

Saraiva has supported her husband on red carpets over the years. Before they were married, she accompanied Wayans to the Hollywood premiere of his 2014 movie Let’s Be Cops. That same year, she, Wayans and some of their kids attended the Big Hero 6 premiere.

Ten years later, Saraiva joined her husband at the Los Angeles premiere of Netflix’s Players, where she was photographed hugging Wayans on the carpet.

  • Damon Wayans Sr. Asks Puppy to Do a Podcast in Exclusive ‘Poppa’s House’ Clip: Watch

Poppa’s House is introducing a new member to the Fulton family!

In a clip shared exclusively with PEOPLE from the CBS sitcom’s Jan. 27 episode, Poppa (played by Damon Wayans Sr., 64) bonds with a puppy named Popcorn that he gifted his son Junior (Damon Wayans Jr., 42).

At the beginning of the video, Poppa asks the dog if he wants to do a podcast together. Popcorn enthusiastically responds with a cute bark.

  • Damon Wayans Sr.’s Guest Appearance On This Damon Wayans Jr. Sitcom 13 Years Ago Paved The Way For Poppa’s House

Damon Wayans Jr. was part of the ensemble cast of Happy Endings, and his real-life father, Damon Wayans Sr., had a one-episode guest appearance on the show. Wayans Sr. played Brad’s father, a veteran in town for some medical tests in season 1, episode 5, “Like Father, Like Gun.” From their stilted early interactions to their tender heart-to-heart at the end, the Wayans father and son stole the episode from the Happy Endings’ best characters.

Over a decade later, the Wayans are reprising their roles as a father-son pair in Poppa’s House, a show Wayans Sr. co-created. Poppa’s House is built around the comedic chemistry the Wayans naturally share, given the Wayans family’s long history in show business. Given how talented they are separately and together, it is surprising it took over a decade since their Happy Endings episode for Damon Wayans Sr. and Damon Wayans Jr. to get their own…

Damon Wayans Sr.’s Guest Appearance On This Damon Wayans Jr. Sitcom 13 Years Ago Paved The Way For Poppa’s House

The episode, titled “The Kyles Go to Hawaii,” featured Damon Wayans Sr. playing the role of Michael Kyle’s long-lost brother, who surprisingly showed up on the family’s vacation to Hawaii. The comedic chemistry between father and son was undeniable, and fans couldn’t get enough of seeing the two Wayans stars sharing the screen.

Fast forward to present day, and the Wayans family is back at it again with their latest project “Poppa’s House.” This new sitcom, starring both Damon Wayans Sr. and Damon Wayans Jr., is a hilarious and heartwarming look at a father and son duo navigating life’s ups and downs together.

  • Damon Wayans Explains Why He Did ‘SNL’ Sketch Stunt That Got Him Fired

Damon Wayans said in a recent episode of the “SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night” docuseries that he sabotaged his stint on “Saturday Night Live” in frustration over the sketch roles he was being offered. (Watch the video below.)

The matter came to a boil when Wayans went rogue during a sketch called “Mr. Monopoly” in 1986. Wayans played his cop character as an effeminate gay cliche, which was not what was rehearsed.

“I snapped. I just did not care. I purposefully did that because I wanted [Lorne Michaels] to fire me,” he said, per Deadline on Thursday.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Griffin Dunne, who appeared in the skit, said of the off-script stunt, “I thought it was weird, but people still laughed.”

Michaels said he canned him midseason because “it had to be done,” EW noted.

Before his unauthorized improv, Wayans said in the doc he was warned by “SNL” great Eddie Murphy that as a Black man he would be pigeonholed into certain characters, so he’d better write his own, Deadline reported.

But his attempts were rejected and he was given parts that would embarrass him in front of his mother, he said.

The hard feelings didn’t last forever. Wayans was invited back to do standup in the 1985-86 season finale and returned as a guest host in 1995.

“Lorne is a very forgiving man and I think he just wanted to let me know that he believed in me,” Wayans added, per the Independent.

Wayans of course went on to star in the groundbreaking sketch series “In Living Color.” He now has a new sitcom on CBS called “Poppa’s House.”

Damon Wayans has finally opened up about the controversial stunt he pulled during his time on Saturday Night Live that ultimately led to his firing from the show. In a recent interview, the comedian explained the reasoning behind his decision to go off-script and improvise during a sketch, which ultimately crossed the line and resulted in his dismissal.

Wayans revealed that he felt constrained by the limitations of the show and wanted to push boundaries and take risks in his comedy. He saw the opportunity to break free from the constraints of the script and deliver something unexpected and memorable to the audience. While he acknowledged that his actions were reckless and ultimately led to his firing, Wayans stood by his decision to take a chance and make a statement with his performance.

Despite the consequences of his actions, Wayans remains unapologetic for his decision and views it as a learning experience that helped shape his comedic style and approach to his work. He expressed gratitude for his time on SNL and the opportunities it provided him, but ultimately felt that he needed to take a stand and assert his creative freedom.

While the incident may have cost Wayans his job on SNL, it also solidified his reputation as a bold and daring comedian willing to take risks and challenge the status quo in pursuit of his craft. Ultimately, Wayans’ decision to push boundaries and defy expectations may have been controversial, but it also cemented his place as a groundbreaking and influential figure in the world of comedy.

  • Damon Wayans recalls getting fired from ‘SNL’ for breaking an important rule

    CNN
     —

Damon Wayans has no hard feelings about getting fired from “Saturday Night Live” back in Season 11 – mostly because he wanted to be let go from the sketch show.

The comedian recalled the incident that led to his firing in Peacock’s “SNL 50” docuseries, saying that the moment that ultimately got him dismissed was the culmination of frustrations he’d felt throughout Season 11 seeing his sketches get cut from the show before broadcast.

After one of his sketches got cut yet again, “I snapped,” Wayans said.

In a sketch called “Mr. Monopoly,” which starred Jon Lovitz as the titular character, Wayans decided to play his role differently for broadcast than he had in rehearsals, catching his scene partners and others by surprise.

“I just did not care,” Wayans said.

Wayans added that he “purposely did that because I wanted [Lorne Michaels] to fire me.”

It worked. Wayans was fired almost immediately after the show ended, a decision that Michaels said in the doc “was really, really hard” but “had to be done.”

“Live From New York” author James Andrew Miller also weighed in, saying that Damon “broke the ultimate golden rule, which is no surprises.”

After “SNL,” things worked out for Wayans.

He went on to become a hugely successful comedic actor, starring in five seasons of both “In Living Color” in the ’90s and “My Wife and Kids” in the aughts. He also starred in popular ‘90s movies including “Major Payne,” “Mo’ Money” and “The Last Boy Scout.”

Proving there’s no bad blood, Wayans was welcomed back to ‘SNL’ to perform a stand up set during the last episode of Season 11, which ran from 1985-1986.

“Lorne is a very forgiving man,” said Wayans in the doc. “And I think he just wanted to let me know he believed in me.”

In a recent interview with Damon Wayans, the comedian and actor opened up about his brief stint on “Saturday Night Live” and the moment that led to his firing from the show.

Wayans, who joined the cast of “SNL” in 1985, revealed that he was let go from the show after breaking an important rule. He explained that during a live sketch, he decided to ad-lib and swear on air, which was strictly prohibited by the show’s producers.

“I was young and reckless at the time, and I thought it would be funny to add a curse word to my dialogue. But it turns out, that was a big no-no on ‘SNL’,” Wayans admitted.

Despite his comedic talent, Wayans was ultimately fired from the show for his actions. However, he has since gone on to have a successful career in comedy, starring in hit TV shows like “In Living Color” and “My Wife and Kids.”

Reflecting on the experience, Wayans acknowledged his mistake and expressed regret for his actions. He emphasized the importance of following the rules and respecting the boundaries set by a production team.

As Wayans continues to thrive in the entertainment industry, this candid revelation serves as a reminder of the consequences that can come from disregarding the guidelines in a professional setting.

  • Christian Bale and Matt Damon Put the Pedal to the Metal in This 92% Rotten Tomatoes Film Zooming Onto a Free Streamer Next Month

Over the last few years, those who love a fast car or a solid biographical racing drama have been in luck. From titles like Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story to Ferrari and the upcoming Joseph Kosinski-helmed F1 movie, it’s a good time to be a racing fan. Soon, audiences will be able to wave the flag and guide in another recent classic that pitted two different vehicle manufacturers against one another. Beginning February 1, Tubi invites viewers to pull up to the platform and stream James Mangold’s 2019 sports biography pic, Ford v Ferrari. Starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale, there’s never been a better time to feel the wind in your hair as the feature lands on the free streaming service.

Based on a true story, Ford v Ferrari follows Carroll Shelby’s (Damon) race against time to build a race car that will compete and win against the highly-revered Italian racing team, Scuderia Ferrari, at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans race. Shelby has been hired by the Ford company to piece together a machine that has the power to take on its Italian rival, but the vehicle can only carry the American company so far as they’ll also need a talented driver behind the wheel. For this, the Ford team turns to Ken Miles (Bale), an English driver who has enough promise to take home the gold. As the clock ticks down towards the race, the pressure spikes for the entire team as they attempt to take on the best of the best at the big event in France.

    ‘Ford v Ferrari’s Pit Crew

Joining the two leading men in this story of hope, sportsmanship, and determination is a lineup that includes Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead), Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place), Caitríona Balfe (Outlander), Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama), Ray McKinnon (Knox Goes Away), Tracy Letts (Lady Bird) and Remo Girone (Live by Night). As one might expect, a lot of money needs to be poured into a racing-based movie in order for it to look on point and not cheap. For that, 20th Century Fox shelled out well over $97 million for the film’s production, with its box office earnings easily covering it at $225.5 million. Not just a financial success, but the title was also a favorite with the critics, landing the Certified Fresh rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and nabbing four nominations at the Oscars, crossing the finish line for Best Film Editing and Best Sound Editing.

If you enjoyed Mangold’s latest box office favorite, A Complete Unknown, head over to Tubi on February 1 to stream the director’s dip into the sports arena when Ford v. Ferrari crosses the finish line.
