  • Great Dane! Spurs youngster grabs first goal for the club in UEL clash

A week ago, Dane Scarlett was out on loan at Oxford United. Tonight, he is the toast of Tottenham as he’s given them the lead against Elfsborg just four minutes after coming off the bench.

It was his first goal for the club to make it all the sweeter.

After a frustrating 65 minutes of the game, Spurs woes grew with yet another injury, this time Radu Drăgușin being forced off just 20 minutes after coming on for the returning Micky van de Ven.

However, for a change, it worked in Ange Postecoglou’s favour, as Scarlett came on, and broke the deadlock just four minutes later with a proper striker’s header from close range.

The future looks bright for this rising star, and fans can’t wait to see what he has in store for the team. #COYS #UEL #GreatDane

  • Cirstea no match for Tauson as Dane books quarterfinal-ticket in Linz

Romanias Sorana Cirstea was not match for Denmarks for Denmarks Clara Tauson in the WTA-500 tournament in Linz as Tauson booked her ticket to the quarterfinals of the tournament where she is set to face the winner between Anna Blinkova and Elina Svitolina.

Clara Tauson advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 tournament in Linz, Austria on Wednesday.

The Dane, who is number 39 in the world and seeded as number eight in the tournament won relatively comfortably against Cirstea who is ranked 70 in the world.

The 34-year-old Romanian was broken twice in the first set, and Tauson took a 5-1 lead. Cirstea saved a set point and reduced to 2-5, and the Romanian fought hard to get back into the match.

Tauson then wasted three more set points but remained calm and took the first set when she converted her fifth set point.

In the second set, Tauson continued her bright rhythm and broke her opponent cleanly in the first game.

Even under pressure, Tauson was able to turn baseline duels to his advantage. She didn´t serve as well in the second set but still managed to to take a 4-2 lead before Cirstea broke back.

However, it was just a short flourishing for Cirstea as the tide again immediately swung in the favour of Tauson when she broke Cirsteas game to 5-4 and following held her own serve to win the match.

In a dominating display of skill and determination, Clara Tauson proved to be too much for Sorana Cirstea as she secured her spot in the quarterfinals of the Linz Open. The young Danish player showcased her talent and composure, outclassing her opponent in straight sets.

Tauson’s powerful serves and aggressive groundstrokes kept Cirstea on the defensive throughout the match, leaving the Romanian struggling to find her rhythm. Despite her best efforts, Cirstea was unable to match Tauson’s relentless pressure and precision on the court.

With this impressive victory, Tauson continues to make a name for herself on the WTA tour and is certainly a player to watch in the upcoming matches. Her exceptional performance against Cirstea has solidified her status as a formidable contender in the tournament, and fans can expect more exciting tennis from the young Dane as she progresses further in the competition.

Stay tuned for more updates on Tauson’s journey in the Linz Open as she aims to secure a spot in the semifinals and beyond.

  • Jax Dane Dead, Former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Unexpectedly Dies At Age 48

Jax Dane Dead, Former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Unexpectedly Dies At Age 48

Thursday afternoon, the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) announced the death of Jeremy Laymon, known by fans as Jax Dane. The former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion and multi-time NWA National Heavyweight champion passed away at 48 years old on Wednesday, December 25. According to NWA, Dane passed due to complications from a heart attack that occurred in late November 2024.

Dane first broke into the professional wrestling world in 2012 as part of NWA Houston, teaming with Raymond Rowe — known in modern WWE as Erik of The War Raiders — under the name The Path of Resistance. He began to make appearances in NJPW in 2013, and shared the ring with talent such as KUSHIDA, Shelton Benjamin, and Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson. In 2015, he claimed both the NWA National Heavyweight Championship and the NWA World Heavyweight title, the latter by defeating former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroyoshi Tenzan.

Dane carried the title for a whopping 419 days (one of the longest reigns in modern NWA history) holding the gold well into 2016 before dropping it to Tim Storm, after which he began to break into other high-profile independent promotions, such as Ring of Honor, IMPACT (as Wilcox), and Ohio Valley Wrestling. He returned to NWA in 2020, where he became a two-time NWA National Heavyweight Champion and was seen wrestling as recently as October 2024, when he and Storm defeated Jake Dumas and Zyon on the October 26 episode of “NWA Powerrr.”

“Very few people have been as influential to my wrestling career as Jax,” Storm said via press release. “He was completely unselfish. That is no more evident than in our current tag team. He put me squarely on his shoulders and made it happen.”

Wrestling Inc. extends our condolences to Jeremy Laymon’s friends and family.

Jeremy Laymon, who wrestled as Jax Dane, died on December 25h, “due to complications from a heart attack suffered in late November.”

The news broke late on December 26, and was confirmed by both the National Wrestling alliance — where he was NWA World champion from August 29, 2015 to October 21, 2016 — and by his family.

His stepson, Nicolas Villavicencio, posted to Facebook: “Fly high pops thank you for being there every step of the way and teaching me to be the best man I could be will forever be apart of my life and will take care of my mom for ya we will meet again”

“The Dane Event” bridged the ownership change in the NWA, being the last champion of the old regime — beating Hiroyoshi Tenzan at World War Gold in San Antonio, Texas, and losing the title to Tim Storm in Sherman, Texas, with Billy Corgan’s Lightning One Inc. as the owner of the promotion.

In a release through the NWA, Corgan described Dane as a “friend, mentor, absolute professional in and out of the ring, and loyalist who went out of his way to support and rebuild the NWA of today.”

Corgan added that Dane “”loved professional wrestling deeply and he certainly loved those he fought and rode with. I know I speak for all of the National Wrestling Alliance when saying Jax will be missed. We will do our best to honor him and make his family proud as we carry forth.”

Laymon was born on March 10, 1976, and grew up in the small community of Bakewell, Tennessee. The 6-foot-4, 296-pound giant was initially a basketball player, at Soddy Daisy High School and Martin Methodist College, where he obtained a degree in Business Administration. After college, he was working as an account executive when he decided that he wanted to explore another path: professional wrestling. A fan of wrestling through the Monday Night Wars, he trained under Dr. Tom Prichard, Rip Rogers and Nick Dinsmore in Ohio Valley Wrestling, debuting in 2009.

“Training was a grind,” Dane told SLAM! Wrestling in April 2015. “Nothing really prepares you for learning how to fall down. We spend our whole lives learning to walk right side up and then one day you have to learn to fall down and you have to fall down aggressively.”

Many fans will also know him from his time in Impact Wrestling in 2017, where he was known as Wilcox, as a part of the V.o.W, “Veterans of War” team with Mayweather.

Dane told the Shining Wizards podcast in May 2021 that it took some convincing for him to try the gimmick, since “I come from a military family. Both my uncles served in the military, and I have a lot of close friends that are military, whether it be marines or army, what have you. And I didn’t serve.” He found it tough especially at meet and greets where he was thanked for his service.

“I never did get comfortable being billed as a former soldier,” Dane said. “I have too much respect for the military and what goes on. Crimson really had to talk me through being ok with that. Outside of that caveat, to the time we spent at IMPACT, I had a great time. Those guys there, LAX, Ortiz and Santana. Fantastic dudes to work with. Homicide was there in some form or fashion. Low Ki was there. You go down the list of the dudes that were there, man, it was a lot of fun to be there. Eddie Kingston was around, so my time at IMPACT was fantastic, except for being billed as a former soldier. And that’s just something I wasn’t comfortable portraying and it was hard to do, man.”

The time in Impact followed a brief stint in Ring of Honor.

Besides being NWA World champion, Dane was also the NWA National Heavyweight champion twice, the NWA World Tag Team Champion with Rob Conway as The IronGodz, the NWA North American Heavyweight champion, and the NWA Texas Heavyweight champion.

He was also NWA Lone Star tag team championship with Raymond Rowe, who is currently in WWE as Erik in The War Raiders.

Daymon kept a day job throughout his wrestling career, working his way up to National Sales Manager at Rheem Manufacturing.

SlamWrestling interviewed Dane on two occasions, in April 2015 and in April 2023.

He is survived by his wife, Evelynda, who he married in November 2020, and stepson, Nicolas (“Nico”), and his father. Further details are not known at this time.

    – The National Wrestling Alliance announced the passing of former NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion Jax Dane passed away. Details of his passing are unknown, but it’s said he passed away earlier today (Dec. 26). He was 43 years old. The NWA also issued the following statement on Dane’s passing:

National Wrestling Alliance Mourns the Loss of Jax Dane

The National Wrestling Alliance is heartbroken to announce the passing of Jax Dane.

Born March 10, 1976, Dane left us on Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, due to complications from a heart attack suffered in late November. Dane is survived by his wife Evelynda Laymon, stepson Nicolas, and father, who will forever cherish his memory. He was 48 years old.

Jax is remembered not only for his remarkable achievements inside the ring but his unwavering dedication to the sport and his fellow wrestlers. The most decorated wrestler of the Lightning One Era and former NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion, Jax left an indelible mark on the NWA and the pro wrestling community as a whole.

Describing Dane as a “friend, mentor, absolute professional in and out of the ring, and loyalist who went out of his way to support and rebuild the NWA of today,” William Patrick Corgan expressed his sorrow,

“Jax Dane loved professional wrestling deeply and he certainly loved those he fought and rode with. I know I speak for all of the National Wrestling Alliance when saying Jax will be missed. We will do our best to honor him and make his family proud as we carry forth,” the NWA’s President and Owner states.

Jax Dane reached the pinnacle of pro wrestling on August 15, 2015, defeating Hiroshi Tenzan to capture the National Wrestling Alliance World’s Heavyweight title. He held the belt for an incredible 419 day, finally losing the championship to Tim Storm on October 21, 2016.

“Very few people have been as influential to my wrestling career as Jax. We met about 15 years ago and have been friends ever since,” shares Storm.

“Over that time, we have wrestled against, for, and with each other a hundred plus times,” said Storm of his in-ring rival and frequent tag team partner. “I’ve never been hit harder or thrown further than in my matches with Jax. It was mutual. He was completely unselfish. That is no more evident than in our current tag team. He put me squarely on his shoulders and made it happen.”

His professional admiration aside, Storm also opens up about Dane as a person and friend.

“The world was a better place with him in it, and he leaves a hole in my heart and in the NWA that can’t be filled. We roomed together on the road last year. We talked about wrestling and family,” recalls Storm, describing Dane’s dedication to those he cared for most.

“Jax loved his wife very much. He spoke about his father teaching him his work ethic and always felt the farm was home. He was proud of his stepson and how he matured into a man, and he loved his nieces dearly,” Storm says. “My heart goes out to his entire family. My heartbreak is nothing compared to what his family is feeling.”

“Jax was a Grizzly Bear in front of the camera and a Teddy Bear behind it,” recounts Pat Kenney, NWA Head of Talent Relations, recalling the competitor as “a gentleman who was a true family man” as dedicated to his home as his onscreen and in-ring persona.

“I know that the term ‘family man’ gets thrown around a lot, but that’s what he was. He spoke glowingly about his wife, Evelynda, and his stepson, Nico,” Kenney details. “As a talent, he had the ability to work with anyone, anywhere, no matter his spot on the card. He was truly energized by his most recent pairing with Tim Storm, as his positivity at recent tapings was contagious. God bless him and his family.”

“He was my brother in every sense of the word, and I loved him,” Storm says, opening up about final conversations with his long-time friend. “He made me promise two things: 1. Don’t share what’s happening with anyone; it’s a private thing. And 2. Promise me you will get your heart checked. He would ask you to do the same.”

The NWA community will forever honor Jax Dane’s legacy, celebrating his contributions to the sport and the profound impact he had on those around him. A champion throughout his career, Jax’s List of Championship Accomplishments include:
