D’Angelo Russell Injury: Iffy for Tuesday
Russell is questionable for Tuesday’s game against the Knicks due to left hamstring tightness injury management, Sharif Phillips-Keaton of USA Today reports.
Russell started in the Nets’ most recent game Sunday, finishing with nine points, seven assists, four rebounds and one steal over 24 minutes in a 127-101 loss to the Thunder. If Russell is able to play in the front end of a back-to-back set Tuesday, he could move back to the bench in the event Ben Simmons (illness) — who is listed as probable — is also available to play. Even if Russell gets the green light to play Tuesday, he could still be at risk of being rested in Wednesday’s game against the Suns.
The Golden State Warriors may be without star guard D’Angelo Russell for their game on Tuesday as he deals with an injury. Russell is currently listed as questionable for the game, leaving his status up in the air.The Warriors will certainly miss Russell’s scoring ability and playmaking skills if he is unable to suit up. His absence would be a big blow to the team as they look to secure a much-needed win.

The Los Angeles Lakers are set to host the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night, which will mark the return of D’Angelo Russell to Crypto.com Arena after he was traded a few weeks ago.
Even though it didn’t end well, there’s no denying that Russell’s second stint with the Lakers was much more successful than his first.
Regardless, there has to be some sour feelings on his part after being traded to the Nets for a second time. With that being the case, head coach JJ Redick is expecting Russell to try to take it to the Lakers on Friday.
“I expect him to come out and try to have a great game,” Redick said after Thursday’s practice. “He does not have a lack of competitiveness. He takes a lot of pride in who he is as a player. I’m expecting him to try to go at us tomorrow.”
Lakers rookie Dalton Knecht agrees with Redick although he is just happy to see his former teammate again after a few weeks.
“Like you said, he’s going to go against his old team. He’s going to be ready to play us and it’s going to be a fun one. So it’ll be fun to see DLo again,” Knecht said.
It remains to be seen if Russell will even play as he is considered day-to-day with a hamstring injury. He surely will do everything in his power to be on the court though as he has always played well at Crypto.com Arena and like Redick said, there is not doubt he will want to take it to his former team.
Russell has been limited to just four games since he joined the Nets due to some injuries but in that time he is averaging 12.8 points and 8.3 assists while shooting 41% from the field and 33.3% from 3-point range. The 28-year-old is in a contract year so is looking to finish the season strong in Brooklyn before becoming a free agent once again this summer.

D’Angelo Russell is a Los Angeles Laker turned Brooklyn Net…again. Six and a half years after trading Brook Lopez among other assets for Russell and Timofey Mozgov, the Nets brought DLo back again, with three second-rounders beside him, shipping out Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Milton in the process.
Now a 10-year veteran, he’s undoubtedly a journeyman point guard, even if he’s just been retracing steps.
As a result, Russell will partake in his second “revenge” game vs the Lakers tonight. Prior to the affair, Russell spoke this afternoon on his second stint in purple and gold, expressing some eagerness to face his old team.
“It’s exciting,” Russell said. “I’m excited to be on this side, attacking those guys. Obviously a lot of my friends are over there, so it’s gonna be a different feel, but I’m excited.”
Russell went on to call his second tenure with the Lakers “a blur,” without offering much more. Maybe he’s saving it for the game.
“I think coming in, I was locked in to what I had to achieve personally to be there,” he said. “To not be there now, obviously it is something that you try to get over and just try to move past. But that is a place that, you know, I’ve been there twice, there’s a home for me there. For myself, I feel like that’s a part of my career that’s something you can’t really take back, so I appreciate it. So I’m just looking forward to moving on.”

Tonight’s game will also grant Brooklyn its second go at an LA team this week. The first one didn’t go too well, in case you forgot, or better yet. missed it all.
“Yeah exactly,” Russell said when asked the team’s approach to tonight. “Short term memory loss. Obviously that’s not who we are, what we want to display. So just coming out, trying to respond, and get a win.”
Russell’s averaged 12.8 points and 8.3 assists per game while posting .410/.333 shooting splits so far during this sequel season for him in Brooklyn. The dimes represent his largest increase since coming over from LA, where he averaged just 4.7 per game beforehand.

Following the Los Angeles Lakers’ trade of D’Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets for Dorian Finney-Smith, Lakers coach J.J. Redick had high praise for the 28-year-old guard.
“We’re gonna miss his playmaking. We’re gonna miss his ball-handling. We’re gonna miss his shooting,” Redick said, per Lakers Nation’s Daniel Starkand. “He’s had several game, including recently the second game in Sac, the Portland game here, where we don’t win those games without him….We’re gonna miss a lot from DLo.”

“Loved coaching DLo. I told you guys this before, I spent more time with that guy and on the phone this summer, on the golf course,” Reddick said, according to Starkand. “I told him many times that I want a great outcome for him and I’m hoping he has a great rest of the year.”
The first-year head coach shares a close bond with Russell, having played alongside him during Russell’s rookie season with the Lakers in 2015-16 and again in 2016-17.
Having shared the court with him and now coaching him are separate experiences, but Redick praised Russell’s on-court abilities, admitting that the Lakers would have lost a handful of games without him.
Russell was the Lakers second-leading scorer in the Lakers 103-99 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Dec. 21 with 20 points.
Redick added that the entire dynamic of the lineup and substitutions will undergo a significant change following Russell’s departure.
“I think with the way we substitute and the way we’ve kind of evolved with some of the non-starting lineups and how those things go,” Redick said per Starkand. “AR (Austin reaves) and LeBron (James) will be out there sometimes together and sometimes on their own. So they’re gonna have as much, if not more, responsibility in terms of playmaking.”
The Lakers will play against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday at home.

Russell spent parts of the past three seasons in L.A.. He exercised the $18.7 million option in his contract to remain with the Lakers over the summer.
After Russell opted in, The Athletic’s Jovan Buha reported that the Lakers were “expected to be aggressive” in finding a trade partner.
Russell is an NBA veteran who has enjoyed two stints with the Lakers, as well as time with the Nets, Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves.
He was originally the No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft by the Lakers, but it wasn’t until he went to Brooklyn that he truly broke out, as he was named an All-Star for the first and only time in his career in 2018-19 when he averaged 21.1 points, 7.0 assists, 3.9 rebounds, 2.9 three-pointers made and 1.2 steals per game.
The Lakers re-acquired Russell in a trade with the T-Wolves during the 2022-23 season, and he helped L.A. make it back to the Western Conference Finals.
Last season was one of the best of Russell’s career in terms of efficiency, as he averaged 18.0 points, 6.3 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 3.0 three-pointers made per game, while shooting 45.6 percent from the floor and a career-best 41.5 percent from beyond the arc.
In 29 appearances this season, Russell has averaged 12.4 points and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 41.5 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three.
Given Russell’s uncertain role and declining numbers, there has been plenty of speculation regarding big changes to the roster and his status with the Lakers as this season has unfolded.
With the Lakers shipping Russell to the Nets, the supporting cast around James and Davis now looks quite different.
Moving forward, the guard will have an opportunity to put up big numbers again like he did during his first stint with Brooklyn, especially if he assumes a larger role for the rest of the 2024-25 campaign ahead of a return to free agency.

Texans elevate WR Jared Wayne, CB D’Angelo Ross from practice squad
The Texans elevated wide receiver Jared Wayne and cornerback D’Angelo Ross from practice squad for the Christmas Day game against the Ravens, the team announced.
