Date set for Notre Dame football’s season opener on Labor Day weekend
Notre Dame football’s first opponent of the 2025 season, Miami, has been known for months. But on Thursday a date for the season opener at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., was finally announced by the ACC.
Notre Dame and Miami will play Sunday, Aug. 31 with a kickoff at 7:30 p.m. EST that will be televised on ABC.
Notre Dame’s final win of the 2024 season, a 27-24 victory over Penn State in the College Football Playoff semifinal hosted by the Orange Bowl, came at Hard Rock Stadium. The Irish will attempt to start their 2025 season with a victory on the road after doing so at Texas A&M last season.
The last meeting between Notre Dame and Miami didn’t end well for the Irish. The Hurricanes dominated in a 41-8 victory at Hard Rock Stadium in 2017. Notre Dame owns a 18-8-1 record against Miami with the first meeting occurring in 1955, a 14-0 road win for the Irish.
Miami is coming of a 10-3 season in head coach Mario Cristobal‘s third season leading the program. He’s compiled a 22-16 record leading the Hurricanes with five wins in 2022 and seven wins in 2023 before a big improvement last season.
Miami added former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck from the transfer portal this offseason. Rivals currently ranks Beck, who threw for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 64.7% of his pass attempts (290-448), as the No. 1 transfer portal prospect in the 2025 cycle. Beck injured his elbow in the SEC Championship Game, which prevented him from playing in Georgia’s 23-10 loss to Notre Dame in the CFP quarterfinal hosted by the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.
Notre Dame still has only 11 announced games for the 2025 season. The dates for matchups with NC State, Syracuse, Boston College and Pittsburgh should be announced Monday night during the ACC’s schedule release on ESPN2 (for the first hour) and ACC Network (for the full two hours) at 9 p.m. EST.
Get ready Fighting Irish fans, the date has been set for Notre Dame football’s season opener on Labor Day weekend! Mark your calendars for September 5th, as the Irish will take on their first opponent of the season in what is sure to be an exciting game. Whether you’ll be cheering on the team from the stands or from the comfort of your own home, don’t miss out on the action as Notre Dame kicks off another thrilling season of college football. Being a celebrity couple, Miami Dolphins star Braxton Berrios and Alix Earle have certain conditions that they take care of before taking another couple on a “double date.” Earle recently opened up about a major pointer from one of these conditions, during her podcast.
In Thursday’s episode of the “Hot Mess” podcast, Earle opened up about the idea of “double dates.” However, Earle revealed that she and Berrios only go on double dates with couples that are “established.” Earle said:
“We’ll double dates with couples that are already like very established. I don’t think we’ve double dated as like a first date. I feel like it’s not weird. Like if we were to double date like say I had like Sally and then like Braxton had a friend for Sally you know. So like we’re the established. I feel like double dating can be tricky if you’re both first timers.” (42:37)

Before talking about her preferences with “double dates,” Alix Earle revealed a bad habit that she could not tolerate having in Braxton Berrios. Sharing specifics into the bad habit that would have ended their relationship during initial dating days, the SI model said:
“I think about it at times, like Braxton he drinks his water and it’s quiet. But like some people, it must be like the anatomy, make a really loud noise. And like for me, I don’t know if I’d be able to date him. Like now if he started gulping, I wouldn’t break up with him. But like in the beginning it would make things different.” (32:21)
Alix Earle revealed being in love with Braxton Berrios’ ‘protective’ nature
When it comes to his dating life, Braxton Berrios has a “protective” nature that his girlfriend Alix Earle admires. If anything, Earle loves this character trait of the wide receiver. During an episode of the “Hot Mess” podcast on January 10, Earle said:
“I’d say Braxton’s very very protective but he’s not jealous because he knows that he has me and he knows that I’m not going anywhere. I’m not turning my head for anyone. So like he might feel that sense of security with you. So he’s not jealous and that’s great.”
Before praising Braxton Berrios’ protective nature, Alix Earle opened up about dealing with social media trolling. The SI model confessed to having developed a “thick skin” against the criticism on social media.

Braxton Berrios’ girlfriend Alix Earle recently opened up about the one condition she always considers before agreeing to a ‘double date’ with her boyfriend. In a candid interview with People magazine, Earle revealed that she always makes sure that the other couple shares her and Berrios’ love for outdoor activities.
“I love being outdoors and going on adventures with Braxton, so it’s really important to me that the other couple we’re going on a double date with feels the same way,” Earle explained. “Whether it’s hiking, camping, or just going for a bike ride, I want to make sure we’re all on the same page when it comes to enjoying nature together.”
Earle’s love for the outdoors is well-documented on her social media, where she often shares photos and videos of her and Berrios exploring new hiking trails, camping in the wilderness, or simply enjoying a picnic in the park. With their shared passion for outdoor activities, it’s no wonder that Earle considers it a must-have trait in any potential double date partners.
So, if you’re hoping to score a double date with Braxton Berrios and Alix Earle, make sure you’re ready to lace up your hiking boots and embrace the great outdoors!

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event returns to primetime. World heavyweight champion Gunther, undisputed WWE champion Cody Rhodes and women’s world champ Rhea Ripley are all present for the second edition of the modern era.
Saturday Night’s Main Event was revived in December after a 16-year absence from WWE programming. The revival is part of a quarterly deal between WWE and NBC to bring the show to prime time. This weekend’s main event is expected to be Jey Uso challenging “The Ring General” Gunther for the world heavyweight title. Uso’s relatives Jacob Fatu and Nia Jax are also on the card.
Also featured on Saturday night is a contract signing between Rhodes and title challenger Kevin Owens. SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis announced an addendum that needs signing ahead of their ladder match at the Royal Rumble. WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels will mediate the contract signing. Michaels will also collect the undisputed WWE and retired Winged Eagle titles at stake.
Look below at the confirmed Saturday Night’s Main Event matches. Saturday Night’s Main Event airs live on NBC and Peacock on Jan. 25 with the main card starting at 8 p.m. ET.
2025 WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event matches
World Heavyweight Championship — Gunther (c) vs. Jey Uso: The build to this world title program is straightforward. Uso challenged Gunther and Gunther accepted. Gunther repeatedly downplayed Uso’s merits as a title challenger, but Uso sent Gunther reeling during a brawl on the Jan. 20 episode of WWE Raw.
Intercontinental Championship — Bron Breakker (c) vs. Sheamus: Sheamus is a surefire WWE Hall of Famer, but there’s one accolade hanging over his head. Sheamus has never won the intercontinental title and has fallen short for years. Breakker suggested it’s time for Sheamus to retire, but “The Celtic Warrior” has no intention to do so before collecting his final prize.
Braun Strowman vs. Jacob Fatu: Strowman crossed paths with The Bloodline soon after returning from injury. Strowman has loosely aligned himself with LA Knight and Sami Zayn to take on The Bloodline. At Saturday Night’s Main Event, behemoths Strowman and Fatu battle.
Women’s World Championship — Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Nia Jax: Jax attacked Ripley at the beginning of Monday Night Raw on Jan. 20. Ripley bounced back later that night and put hands on her rival. A fighting champion, Ripley challenged Jax with Ripley’s title on the line.
Undisputed WWE champion Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens contract signing: While it won’t be a match, there’s sure to be fireworks when the two are in the ring on Saturday night. Shawn Michaels will serve as mediator as the two sign on for their ladder match at the Royal Rumble. Every time these two have seen each other has resulted in some sort of brawl. The key hook to Saturday night is that Micheals is charged with collecting both the undisputed WWE title and the retired Winged Eagle title from both men. Be on the look out for some wildness to close the show.

RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Caitlin Rock, the former Washoe County School District employee accused of having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student, pleaded not guilty to all charges Wednesday morning.
During the plea hearing on Jan. 22, Rock, 46, also waived her right to a speedy trial, meaning she is voluntarily giving up her legal right to have her criminal case brought to trial promptly, essentially allowing for a longer period of time before trial begins.
Judge Lynne Jones set Rock’s trial date for Oct. 6 and it’s slated to last for roughly a week.
Prosecutors allege the relationship between Rock, who was employed as an intervention prevention assistant at Billinghurst and Swope middle schools, and the student started with text messages and progressed to in-person meetings outside of school.
It was revealed in court shortly after Rock’s arrest the mother of the student reportedly tracked her son’s location after he snuck out, which led to a confession about the relationship.
The victim reported the relationship to police resulting in Rock’s arrest on June 11, 2024.
According to the district, Rock’s contract ended at the end of the school year which was June 10.
Rock is currently being held at the Washoe County jail on 20 felony charges including multiple counts of sexual assault against a child under 14. Her bail remains at $2 million bondable.
It has been nearly a year since former Washoe County School District employee, John Smith, was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a student. Now, a trial date has finally been set for this disturbing case.
The trial is scheduled to begin on October 15th, and Smith is facing multiple charges including sexual assault and lewdness with a minor. The alleged incidents took place over the course of several months, and the victim, a student at the school where Smith worked, bravely came forward to report the abuse.
The community has been shocked and saddened by these allegations, and many are anxiously awaiting the outcome of the trial. It is crucial that justice is served for the victim and that Smith is held accountable for his actions.
As the trial date approaches, it is important to remember that the victim in this case is a brave individual who deserves our support and respect. We must stand with them as they seek justice and healing from this traumatic experience.
Let us hope that the upcoming trial will bring closure and justice for the victim, and that steps will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of all students in Washoe County schools. Sexual assault is a serious crime that must not be tolerated, and those who commit such heinous acts must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
Morgan Wallen has confirmed he’ll release his long-teased fan-favourite, ‘I’m the Problem’, on January 31st. The stripped-back offering will serve as the title-track from the Sneedville megastar’s new album, which is yet to be given an official release date.
‘I’m the Problem’ was penned by the ‘Love Somebody’ crooner alongside a host of his go-to collaborators, Ernest Keith Smith, Ryan Vojtesak, Grady Block and Jamie McLaughlin.
‘I’m the Problem’ appears to be the same song that Morgan Wallen tantalisingly uploaded a snippet of back in January 2024, which was previously thought to be called ‘I Guess’.
On the strikingly sparse, intricate ode, Morgan Wallen explores who is to blame for a recent break-up, “I guess I’m the problem / And you’re ‘Miss Never Do No Wrong’ / If I’m so awful, then why’d you stick around this long? / And if it’s the whiskey, then why you keep on pullin’ it off the shelf? / You hate that when you look at me, you halfway see yourself / And it got me thinkin’ / If I’m the problem, then you might be the reason”.
As Morgan Wallen prepares to usher in his next musical chapter, the chart titan has unveiled a sprawling series of 2025 shows, with Wallen launching his I’m the Problem Tour in June.
The blockbuster run of dates will feature an unrivalled roster of opening acts, with Brooks & Dunn – who released a revamped version of their iconic anthem, ‘Neon Moon’, with Morgan Wallen last year – joined by Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett and Koe Wetzel as direct support. Also heading out on the road with Wallen is an array of fast-emerging acts: Anne Wilson, Ella Langley, Gavin Adcock and Corey Kent.
As part of the expansive tour, Morgan Wallen will be hitting a slew of stadiums across the US and Canada, with stops on the books in Texas, California, Florida and many more.
‘I’m the Problem’ is set to be the latest piece of the puzzle as we continue to speculate and predict what we can expect from Morgan Wallen’s hotly anticipated fourth album. We suspect the project may be dropping on 4/4 – seeing as Wallen’s record-obliterating third record, One Thing At A Time, arrived on 3/3 – ahead of his inaugural Sand in My Boots Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama in mid-May.
The forthcoming single is set to be accompanied on the new album by the already-released ’Lies, Lies, Lies’, ‘Love Somebody’ and ‘Smile’, the latter of which dropped out of the blue on New Year’s Eve, in tandem with a cinematic music video featuring comedian, Caleb Pressley. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that other stellar unreleased demos such as the infectious ‘Since You Got Gone’ and the philosophical ‘Redneck’ also make their way onto the I’m the Problem tracklist.
Judging by the impressive singles we’ve heard so far, I’m the Problem will consolidated Morgan Wallen’s status as not only one of the most prominent figures in the modern music landscape, but also an artist that can seamlessly – and, crucially, authentically – blend genres in a way that few of his contemporaries can match.

With expert insights and touching personal moments, the film is a powerful reminder of the difference we can all make in the effort to end Alzheimer’s. Whether you’re drawn to stories of resilience, advocacy, or how laughter and love can help us through life’s toughest moments, this film will leave you inspired and hopeful. ‘Taking Care’ is about the legacies we choose to embrace – and those we strive to change – for a better future,” reads the film’s description.

I decided to fight back against this terrible disease by sharing her story and educating people about what they can do to support caregivers and research, but also about the importance of prevention through brain health education.”

“The Buddy Way,” the upcoming ESPN documentary executive produced by Peyton Manning, will debut on Jan. 29 at 5 p.m. ET.
The documentary follows the historic career of Coach Eugene F. “Buddy” Teevens III, starting from his early years in Pembroke, Mass. before tracking his time as a multi-sport athlete and his important role at the Manning Passing Academy. The film blends new footage and behind-the-scenes interviews with Teevens’ family.
“We are honored to share Buddy’s story and preserve his legacy,” Manning said. “Buddy’s motto as a coach and leader was “adjust and improvise.” But it was more than a motto; Buddy was a true football innovator. He hired female coaches in the college ranks before anybody else, and he emphasized smarter and safer tackling long before the practice was adopted across the sport. Buddy was a terrific coach, but the legacy Buddy leaves behind extends well beyond his success on the field.”
“The Buddy Way” will premiere Jan. 29 on ESPN2 and will be available to stream on ESPN+ following its linear debut.
