Exciting news for Gent fans as David Hubert has decided to start with a very attacking lineup in a 4-3-3 formation. The surprise inclusion is that Sven Kums will be starting on the bench for this match. Stay tuned for live updates as Gent takes on their opponents with this aggressive strategy! #Gent #4-3-3 #AttackMode

As a boxing fan, the question of whether or not David Benavidez should face Canelo Alvarez is a hot topic of debate. On one hand, Alvarez is considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world and a win against him would solidify Benavidez’s status as one of the top fighters in the sport. On the other hand, Alvarez is a formidable opponent with a proven track record of success, and facing him could be a risky move for Benavidez.

Some argue that Benavidez should avoid facing Alvarez at all costs, as a loss could derail his career and damage his reputation. Others believe that Benavidez has the skills and determination to defeat Alvarez, and that a victory would propel him to even greater heights in the sport.

Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to face Alvarez is a personal one for Benavidez to make. Only time will tell if he chooses to take on the challenge or if he decides to pursue other opportunities in the boxing world. Whatever his choice may be, one thing is certain – the boxing world will be watching closely to see what the future holds for David Benavidez.

  • David Benavidez vs. David Morrell Jr. fight prediction, odds, undercard, start time, preview, where to watch

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s refusal to face his top two challengers while undisputed super middleweight champion forced those two men, David Benavidez and David Morrell, into a high-stakes showdown this Saturday night. Benavidez and Morrell both moved to light heavyweight after failing to secure fights with Alvarez. Now, they meet with a potential shot at the undisputed light heavyweight championship on the line.

Benavidez (29-0, 24 KO) twice held the WBC super middleweight title and never lost the title in the ring. After winning the title the first time with a split decision over Ronald Gavril in 2017, he successfully defended the belt in their 2018 rematch. Later that year, it was reported that Benavidez tested positive for cocaine in a Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency drug test and was stripped of his title and handed a four-month suspension.

Benavidez would regain the title in his second fight after his suspension, stopping Anthony Dirrell in the ninth round of their title bout. He would never defend that title, failing to make weight for his first planned defense against Roamer Alexis Angulo and being stripped of the belt again.

More dominance of the division continued for Benavidez in the ring, including picking up the WBC interim title in 2022. Alvarez collected all four world titles at 168 pounds but repeatedly blew off any talk of facing Benavidez, the clear top contender for his championships.

How David Benavidez and David Morrell Jr. became unexpected rivals in pursuit of gold and glory

As it became increasingly clear that a fight with one of boxing’s biggest stars was never going to come to fruition, Benavidez made the jump to 175 pounds where he again picked up a WBC interim title by defeating former world champ Oleksandr Gvozdyk. The fight with Gvozdyk proved a bit more difficult than expected, partially because of torn hand ligaments suffered prior to the bout and partially because Benavidez’s endurance seemed to fail him as the fight hit the later rounds.

Morrell (11-0, 9 KO) also spent plenty of time as an Alvarez mandatory challenger and would have been seen as a very legitimate opponent for the Mexican superstar. Despite winning the WBA “regular” championship in just his fifth professional fight and making five consecutive defenses, Morrell was facing the same lack of interest from Alvarez and also made the jump to 175 pounds, defeating Radivoje Kalajdzic to win the “regular” title at the new weight.

Like Benavidez’s division-welcoming fight with Gvozdyk, Morrell struggled at times in his light heavyweight debut, taking a decision over Radivoje Kalajdzic in a fight that was much closer than the official scorecards indicated. Prior to that fight, only two of Morrell’s opponents had managed to last past the fourth round.

The prize that eluded both men at super middleweight — a fight with multiple world championships on the line — seems to be in reach now. The winner will become the obvious challenger for the winner of the rematch between undisputed light heavyweight champ Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol, which takes place on Feb. 22.

The undercard features some top names looking to splash once again. Look no further than the co-main event when Brandon Figueroa puts his WBC featherweight title on the line against Stephen Fulton Jr. The two met in an instant classic in 2021’s Fight of the Year where Fulton walked away with a contested majority decision. Now up a weight class where Figueroa has had more success, Fulton will need to find that same kind of fight if he wants to be a champion again.

Let’s take a closer look at the rest of the undercard with the latest odds before getting to a prediction and expert pick on the main event below.

Benavidez vs. Morrell fight card, odds

    • David Benavidez -230 vs. David Morrell +180, light heavyweights
    • Brandon Figueroa (c) -185 vs. Stephen Fulton +150, WBC featherweight title
    • Isaac Cruz -900 vs. Angel Fierro +550, junior welterweights
    • Jesus Ramos -2500 vs. Jeison Rosario +1100, junior middleweights
    • Mirco Cuello -650 vs. Christian Olivo Barreda +450, featherweights
    • Yoenli Hernandez -2500 vs. Angel Ruiz Astorga +1100, middleweights
    • Kaipo Gallegos -600 vs. Leonardo Padilla +425, junior lightweights
    • Jose Benavidez Jr. -1100 vs. Danny Rosenberger +650, middleweights
    • Daniel Blancas -2000 vs. Juan Barajas +900, super middleweights
    • Curmel Moton -4000 vs. Frank Zaldivar +1200, lightweights

Where to watch Benavidez vs. Morrell Jr.

    • Date: Feb. 1 | Start time: 8 p.m. ET (main card)
    • Location: T-Mobile Arena — Las Vegas
    • TV channel/stream: Amazon PPV ($79.99)

    Prediction

This fight could well come down to which man has made the bigger adjustments to being at light heavyweight. As talented as both men are, there’s no getting around the fact that both were less than their usual stellar selves in their first fights at the weight. It is worth mentioning that neither man took a light touch in their 175-pound debuts but they just didn’t look as dominant as they had been for years at super middleweight.

Morrell has been a thudding puncher for most of his career, blasting out opponents with power that is only improved by having solid technique as an accomplished amateur. Benavidez’s style is a bit more raw, though it has always been effective and he’s clearly sharpened his tools as his career has progressed.

If the fight breaks down into a firefight, either man has the power to land a fight-ending shot. Morrell could look at Benavidez fading late in his most recent fight as a sign he needs to try to pick spots to push the pace and drag things into the later rounds to truly take over while Benavidez. That said, it would be surprising to see either man take a particularly safe approach in the fight and Benavidez’s higher level of professional experience should make him more comfortable in edging out the fight. Pick: David Benavidez via MD

David Benavidez will be facing off against David Morrell Jr. in what promises to be an exciting boxing match. Benavidez, a former WBC super middleweight champion, will be looking to reclaim his title against the undefeated Cuban fighter Morrell Jr.

The odds for this fight are currently in favor of Benavidez, but Morrell Jr. has shown immense skill and talent in his previous fights, so it could be anyone’s game. The undercard for this event is stacked with talented fighters, adding to the anticipation for the main event.

The fight is set to take place on Saturday, August 28th, with the start time yet to be announced. Fans can catch all the action live on Showtime or stream it online through various platforms.

In the lead-up to the fight, both fighters have been training hard and talking up their chances of victory. Benavidez is known for his power and aggressive style, while Morrell Jr. is a slick and technical boxer. It will be interesting to see how their styles match up in the ring.

Overall, this is shaping up to be a must-watch fight for boxing fans. Make sure to tune in to see who comes out on top in this exciting matchup between two talented fighters.

  • David Ortiz Delivers On-Brand (NSFW) Message At Boston Common TGL Debut

David Ortiz had a message for those rockin’ green and representing Boston.

No, not the Celtics, although they could use a motivational message amid their slump.

Ortiz attended Boston Common Golf’s TGL debut against Jupiter Links Golf Club at SoFi Center on Monday, and offered a familiar rally cry sports fans surely will recognize.

“This is our (expletive) city!” Ortiz told ESPN’s Marty Smith. “Let’s go guys!”

The Red Sox legend has been one of the biggest Boston Common Golf supporters since the Ballfrogs were introduced. Ortiz seems confident Rory McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama, who hasn’t yet made his debut, will have Boston in postseason contention when the time comes.

    Story continues below advertisement

“Boston is the city of champions, man,” Ortiz said on the broadcast. “It’s a city that supports sport better than any other city. And when you come to Boston, you gotta bring it.”

Boston Common’s debut lived up to the hype despite the fact the Ballfrogs ultimately lost to Tiger Woods and JLGC after an entertaining closest-to-the-pin overtime.

Boston Common will be back at SoFi Center on the campus of Palm Beach State College on Monday. The Ballfrogs will try for a bounce-back win against Los Angeles Golf Club with players set to take the first tee at 9 p.m. ET.

David Ortiz, former Red Sox player and beloved Boston icon, made a grand entrance at the Boston Common for the debut of his new Tequila brand, TGL. The crowd went wild as Big Papi strutted onto the stage, exuding his signature charisma and charm.

But what really got the crowd roaring was Ortiz’s NSFW message. With a twinkle in his eye, he declared, “This tequila ain’t for the faint of heart. It’s for those who like it bold, like me.” The crowd erupted in cheers and applause, clearly loving Ortiz’s on-brand message.

As he raised a glass of TGL to the crowd, Ortiz proved once again why he is a fan favorite in Boston. With his larger-than-life personality and unapologetic attitude, he delivered a message that was perfectly on-brand for TGL and left the crowd wanting more.

Overall, David Ortiz’s debut at the Boston Common for TGL was a huge success, and fans can’t wait to see what he has in store next. Cheers to Big Papi and his new venture!

  • David Ortiz accuses Emilio Bonifacio of breaching contract for Titanes del Caribe Series

Santo Domingo.- Former MLB star David Ortiz has accused Licey captain Emilio Bonifacio of violating a signed agreement after receiving $40,000 to participate in the Titanes del Caribe Series but failing to attend.

Ortiz stated that Bonifacio’s absence caused financial losses and diminished the event’s impact, as the highly anticipated matchups between the Tigres del Licey and Águilas Cibaeñas took place in New York and Puerto Rico. He hinted at potential legal action against Licey for non-compliance, expressing frustration over the lack of commitment in an interview with Alofoke Radio Show.

The Hall of Famer emphasized that the event’s success relied on key players, and Licey’s decision not to travel to Puerto Rico disrupted logistics and audience expectations. He suggested that Bonifacio’s actions could have repercussions for the team in future events. The Titanes del Caribe Series remains a major attraction for Dominican winter baseball fans, bringing the iconic rivalry to an international stage.

Former MLB star David Ortiz recently made headlines when he accused fellow Dominican player Emilio Bonifacio of breaching his contract for the upcoming Titanes del Caribe Series.

Ortiz, who is serving as a team owner for the Titanes del Caribe, claimed that Bonifacio, who was signed to play for the team, failed to fulfill his contractual obligations and is now seeking legal action against him.

Sources close to the situation have indicated that Bonifacio allegedly failed to attend team practices and meetings, as well as neglecting to participate in promotional events for the series.

Ortiz expressed his disappointment in Bonifacio’s actions, stating that he believed the player had a lot of potential to contribute to the team’s success.

It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold, but one thing is for certain: tensions are running high in the Titanes del Caribe camp. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.

  • Bears, Jaguars, Jets Request Interview With Commanders’ David Blough

David Blough‘s quarterback career lasted through the 2023 season, and the veteran reserve opted to transition to coaching before his 30th birthday. He is already generating extensive interest about moving up the ladder.

The Commanders hired Blough last year, and he spent the season as their assistant QBs coach. As teams observed the success Jayden Daniels enjoyed this season, Blough’s name is already in the mix for a move into a key role. Some of his former coaches are interested in bringing him aboard as QBs coach.

The Bears, Jaguars and Jets have submitted requests to interview Blough, NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo tweets. Chicago is eyeing him for its pass-game coordinator job, while Jacksonville and New York want to speak with him about coming aboard as QBs coach. The Bears may no longer be interested, at least regarding the pass-game coordinator position, as ex-Jaguars OC Press Taylor took that job Wednesday night.

Blough, 29, has an extensive history with Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn but did not overlap with Liam Coen. The new Jags HC has taken an extensive interest in Washington’s staff, with the Jags interviewing Commanders QBs coach Tavita Pritchard for their offensive coordinator role Wednesday. Pritchard landing that gig could make Blough a candidate to move up in Washington.

Blough did not receive much playing time as a pro, but that did not stop fellow 29-year-old recent retiree Davis Webb, who has impressed as the Broncos’ QBs coach. Blough is best remembered for his time with the Lions, a tenure that began with a summer 2019 trade. The Lions obtained Blough from the Browns in August 2019 and installed him as a Matthew Stafford backup. As Stafford missed half that season with a back injury, Blough started five games. While he lost all five, his tenure in Detroit continued after the Lions replaced Matt Patricia with Dan Campbell.

Johnson arrived in Detroit during the same offseason Blough did, beginning as an offensive assistant and eventually rising to the OC role. The Lions cut Blough after training camp in 2022, leading him to stints with the Vikings and then the Cardinals — with whom he made two more starts (two losses) to close out the ’22 campaign — but the Lions circled back to the Purdue alum once the Cards cut him in August 2023. Blough spent the ’23 season on the Lions’ practice squad, remaining there until the team’s NFC championship game loss to the 49ers.

Johnson has already gone historically young with his OC post, hiring ex-Webb Denver colleague Declan Doyle, who is 28. Blough would make for an interesting addition. The Jets join the Jags in not yet hiring an OC. The Commanders will see their play-caller (Kliff Kingsbury) return for the 2025 season, but both Pritchard and Blough are drawing interest early.

The NFL offseason is in full swing, and teams are already starting to make moves to improve their rosters for the upcoming season. One player who has caught the eye of several teams is Washington Commanders quarterback David Blough.

According to reports, the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New York Jets have all requested interviews with Blough as they explore potential quarterback options for the 2022 season. Blough, who has spent the last two seasons with the Commanders, has shown flashes of potential in limited playing time and could be an intriguing option for teams in need of a signal-caller.

The Bears are looking to find a successor to veteran quarterback Andy Dalton, while the Jaguars are in need of competition for Trevor Lawrence. The Jets, on the other hand, are looking to solidify their quarterback situation after a disappointing season from Zach Wilson.

It remains to be seen where Blough will ultimately end up, but it’s clear that he has generated interest from multiple teams. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

A chart staple since its release in 2017, the 77-year-old music legend’s career-spanning hits collection finally surged to the summit in its 374th week on chart.

The record was bolstered by limited edition releases across brand-new formats, including cassette for the first time.

The Pinner-born star’s latest compilation debuted at Number 5 in its opening week back in 2017 and went on to peak at Number 2.

It hasn’t left the Official Albums Chart Top 100 since its release, and far and away boasts more weeks on chart than any other Elton LP.

Moreover, Diamonds claims the most consecutive weeks inside the Official Albums Chart Top 40 ever and claims the most weeks inside the Top 40 before reaching that coveted Number 1 spot.

Diamonds now joins Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player (1973), Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973), Caribou (1974), Elton John’s Greatest Hits (1974), Sleeping With The Past (1989), The Very Best Of Elton John (1990), collaborative PNAU record Good Morning To The Night (2012) and The Lockdown Sessions (2021) in Elton’s tally of UK chart-toppers.

It also comes amid his health struggles with his eyesight, which he first lifted the lid on in September 2024.

Elton appeared on Good Morning America alongside his husband David in December to chat with Robin Roberts about his life, career and the personal challenges featured in his new documentary.

Speaking in the interview, the music legend explained: ‘I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France and it’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see.

‘And my left eye is not the greatest, so. There’s hope and encouragement that it will be okay and we’re taking an intiative to try and get it better. At the moment that’s really what we’re concentrating on.’

When asked to elaborate on his current health to put fans worried at ease, Sir Elton quipped: ‘David and I always have our blood tests every six months in Los Angeles. Our health has never been better.

‘It’s never fortunate for anything like this to happen. I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything.’

The hitmaker, who played his final shows last summer, revealed his eyesight issues in September.

He took to his Instagram with a lengthy post, explaining how he spent the past few months ‘recuperating at home.’

Elton wrote: ‘Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye.

‘I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.

‘I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.’

He took to his Instagram with a lengthy post, explaining how he spent the past few months 'recuperating at home'

Elton concluded: ‘I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.’

And his health battles have undermined any new music from the star.

Elsewhere in the interview, he said: ‘I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording I don’t know, because I can’t see a lyric for a start.

‘We’re taking an initiative to try and get it better, but at the moment that’s really what we’re concentrating on.’
