  • Will Smith’s DC Superhero Dream Can Still Happen Despite The DCU Reboot

Will Smith’s DC Superhero Dream Can Still Happen Despite The DCU Reboot

James Gunn’s DCU can still bring back Will Smith’s Deadshot and give him the Suicide Squad spinoff the actor originally wanted. From David Corenswet’s Superman and Milly Alcock’s Supergirl to The Brave and the Bold‘s Batman and a yet-to-be-cast Wonder Woman, the DCU will introduce a new set of DC characters in both animation and live-action. However, various DCEU characters have survived the DCU reboot — mostly those related to James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad: John Cena’s Peacemaker, Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, Sean Gunn’s Weasel, among others.

The Suicide Squad was itself a soft-reboot of Suicide Squad. Characters such as Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang appear to be the same version of the characters in both movies, but The Suicide Squad doesn’t directly reference the events of the first movie. Now that DCU projects like Creature Commandos recontextualize DCEU titles like The Suicide Squad within the DCU continuity, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad now appears to fit within the latter franchise instead of the former.

Why Will Smith Left His Deadshot Role

Will Smith Almost Reprised His DCEU Role Before Leaving The Franchise

Back in 2016, a spinoff centered on Will Smith’s Deadshot was being discussed despite Suicide Squad‘s mixed reception. A Suicide Squad sequel had also been confirmed as soon as the first installment came out. However, Will Smith had to drop out of his Deadshot role due to scheduling conflicts. As Suicide Squad 2 changed titles and directors, Will Smith played his Academy Award-winning role in King Richard. In the wake of Will Smith’s absence, James Gunn decided to switch Deadshot for Bloodsport, with Idris Elba playing the new marksman.

Deadshot’s current whereabouts are unknown, though a DCU version of the anti-hero likely exists somewhere out there

The fact that The Suicide Squad never acknowledged Will Smith’s Deadshot left his fate ambiguous and made it possible for him to return in an eventual sequel, but of course, the DCEU continued to go through various challenges that led to the end of the franchise in 2023. While the DCU’s Creature Commandos, Waller, and Peacemaker season 2 are slowly recanonizing the events of The Suicide Squad, Suicide Squad‘s plot and characters remain unacknowledged. In the meantime, Deadshot’s current whereabouts are unknown, though a DCU version of the anti-hero likely exists somewhere out there.

Throughout the years, Will Smith has expressed his interest in starring in a Deadshot solo movie. On his YouTube channel, Will Smith has said, “I hope so. I love playing Deadshot. I really enjoyed that character,” and when the DCEU’s Deadshot spinoff was still in early development, Smith revealed, “They’ve been talking about it. So if a good idea comes around, we’ve been having meetings. But I would love to. I love Deadshot”. As an A-list leading man, Will Smith has everything he needs to star in a successful DC solo film.

The DCU’s First Release Answers A 4-Year-Old Superman Question According To Major DC Theory

Creature Commandos’ connections to the DCEU’s The Suicide Squad suggests the DCU already established a big event in Superman’s backstory.

Speaking to GQ in 2021, Will Smith also expressed his interest in playing a powerful Black superhero, saying, “I wanted to depict Black excellence alongside my white counterparts. I wanted to play roles that you would give to Tom Cruise.” Following the success of Black Panther, a Will Smith vehicle centered around one of Gotham’s deadliest assassins seems like a winning movie concept. Well into the DCU’s first chapter already, Will Smith may still be interested in reprising his DCEU role.

James Gunn’s DCU Reboot Should Revive Smith’s Deadshot For His Own Movie

Will Smith’s Deadshot Spinoff Is Still Possible Within James Gunn’s DCU

Just like John Cena’s Chris Smith joined the DCU despite the Justice League’s cameo in the Peacemaker finale and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller is starring in her own DCU show despite leading Task Force X in the DCEU’s Suicide Squad, Will Smith’s Deadshot could easily get his own DCU movie or series soon as well. The success of Batman-adjacent villain solo projects like Todd Phillips’ Joker and Lauren LeFranc’s The Penguin also supports the idea that a Deadshot solo movie could thrive. Clayface is already pioneering villain-led Batman movies in James Gunn’s DCU parallel to similar DC Elseworlds projects.

I Can’t Believe The DCU Just Showed Peacemaker’s Death 8 Months Before His Season 2 Return & The Implications Are Massively Important

Creature Commandos has really upped the stakes for the rest of the DCU after just 4 episodes, and it could change everything for Peacemaker season 2.

The narrative foundations for a Deadshot movie already exist. In David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, a flashback scene revealed that Batman apprehended Deadshot in front of his daughter, which led Deadshot to hate Batman. Deadshot’s backstory would gel well with James Gunn’s penchant for father-child stories, as seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and Peacemaker. Batman’s involvement in Deadshot likely wouldn’t be a problem, as Superman and the Justice League’s references in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker will be ignored in the DCU.

Deathstroke/Bane Rumor Reveals Whether Joe Manganiello Will Return As Slade Wilson For Dcu Team-Up

There was a time when Joe Manganiello‘s Deathstroke was being lined up for a huge role in the Dceu. Original plans called for the villain to learn Batman’s secret identity in Justice League‘s post-credits scene (courtesy of Lex Luthor), setting the stage for him to hunt down Bruce Wayne in the pre-Robert Pattinson version of The Batman.

That all changed when Ben Affleck decided not to direct the movie, leading to Joss Whedon‘s Justice League showing Slade Wilson being enlisted to the “Injustice Society” instead. Despite the change, there were later rumblings about a Deathstroke spin-off helmed by The Raid‘s Gareth Evans.

Popular Rumor Source Reveals Whether Joe Manganiello Will Be Back as Deathstroke in the Dcu

At one point, Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke was supposed to have a massive role in the Dceu. The plan was for Lex Luthor to reveal Batman’s secret identity to Slade Wilson in a post-credits scene from Justice League. This would have set up Deathstroke as the main villain in the earlier version of The Batman, the one starring and directed by Ben Affleck.

However, things changed when Affleck stepped down as director. Instead, the theatrical version of Justice League, helmed by Joss Whedon, teased Deathstroke joining the “Injustice Society” in its post-credits scene. While the shift disappointed many, there were still whispers of a standalone Deathstroke film directed by Gareth Evans of The Raid fame.

More recently, reports surfaced in September that DC Studios had hired Captain America: Brave New World writer Matthew Orton to script a movie featuring Deathstroke and Bane. Speculation arose that it might secretly be a Secret Six project.

There has been much speculation surrounding Joe Manganiello’s return as Deathstroke in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Fans have been eagerly awaiting confirmation of his involvement in upcoming projects, and now a popular rumor source has shed some light on the situation.

According to the rumor source, Joe Manganiello will indeed be returning as Deathstroke in the DCEU. This news has sparked excitement among fans who have been clamoring for more of Manganiello’s portrayal of the iconic character.

While this information has not been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. or DC Films, the rumor source has a track record of accurately predicting casting choices and plot details in the past. As such, fans are cautiously optimistic about the news of Manganiello’s return.

If this rumor turns out to be true, it will surely delight fans of the DCEU and further expand the universe’s roster of beloved characters. Stay tuned for more updates on Joe Manganiello’s potential return as Deathstroke in the DCEU.

DEATHSTROKE/BANE Rumor Reveals Whether Joe Manganiello Will Return As Slade Wilson For DCU Team-Up

There was a time when Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke was being lined up for a huge role in the DCEU. Original plans called for the villain to learn Batman’s secret identity in Justice League‘s post-credits scene (courtesy of Lex Luthor), setting the stage for him to hunt down Bruce Wayne in the pre-Robert Pattinson version of The Batman

In September, the trades reported that DC Studios had tapped Captain America: Brave New World writer Matthew Orton to pen a Deathstroke/Bane team-up movie. Many have wondered whether it’s really a Secret Six project and James Gunn has confirmed on multiple occasions that he has plans for DC’s Terminator.

It’s been a while since we’ve had an update on this movie but, according to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, “Joe Manganiello is 100% not coming back as Deathstroke. For the Deathstroke/Bane movie they are looking to cast a new actor for the role.”

The hope was that Manganiello might get a second chance; like Channing Tatum as Gambit, he never got a chance to properly play a character he loves. However, his ties to the DCEU are likely too much for DC Studios to ignore.

As well as being forever linked to Justice League‘s baffling – reshot – post-credits scene, the Spider-Man star suited up as Deathstroke for a handful of Knightmare sequences in Zack Snyder’s Justice League

While Manganiello has shared his interest in reprising the role in the new DCU several times, it was back in February that he suggested his time as the character was definitely at an end.

“James [Gunn] is my buddy, and James and I had a conversation about it because Jim Lee over at DC Comics wanted me to create a graphic novel series based on the screenplay that I wrote for the Deathstroke origin film,” he explained.

“When they were dismantling the DCEU, that went to the wayside as well,” Manganiello continued. “Jim read it, and wanted it to be a graphic novel series, but no one could assure me that, if it garnered the attention of directors and producers, that I couldn’t be attached. So I had to let it go. James Gunn was just like, ‘Let it go.’”

Who do you think should play the DCU’s Deathstroke?

There has been a lot of speculation and rumors swirling around about the potential team-up of Deathstroke and Bane in the DC Extended Universe. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the return of Joe Manganiello as Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, after his brief appearance in the post-credits scene of “Justice League.”

According to the latest rumor, it seems that Joe Manganiello will indeed be reprising his role as Deathstroke in an upcoming DCU team-up film. While there has been no official confirmation from Warner Bros. or DC Films, sources close to the production have indicated that Manganiello is in talks to return as the deadly assassin.

If this rumor turns out to be true, fans can expect to see an epic showdown between Deathstroke and Bane, two of Batman’s most formidable foes, on the big screen. The prospect of seeing these two villains team up or face off against each other is sure to get fans excited for what’s to come in the DC Extended Universe.

Stay tuned for more updates on this rumored Deathstroke/Bane team-up and Joe Manganiello’s potential return as Slade Wilson in the DCU. It looks like the future of the DCEU is shaping up to be even more action-packed and intense than ever before.
