  • Red Bull to debut RB21 car in Bahrain filming day

Red Bull has set a date for the debut of its RB21 Formula 1 car, with Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson pressed into action at a filming day in Bahrain on Tuesday 25 February.

Motorsport.com understands Red Bull will shake down its 2025 challenger one day before the new season properly gets underway with three days of official testing at the Sakhir circuit.

World champion Verstappen will log his first miles with his new car, and his new team-mate Lawson will also take the wheel of the RB21 ahead of his official Red Bull debut in Bahrain.

As per the updated regulations, teams are allowed to complete up to 200km per launch date on Pirelli demonstration tyres. Last year Red Bull opted to hold its filming with Verstappen and Perez at Silverstone, a day which was affected by rain.

Red Bull previously confirmed it is foregoing its own launch event, revealing its 2025 livery alongside all the other teams at F1’s launch event at the London O2 Arena on 18 February, with F1 hosting the one-off event to celebrate its 75th anniversary.

That event means several outfits, like Mercedes and now Red Bull, are heading straight to Bahrain for testing before unveiling their actual 2025 car designs, whereas the likes of Ferrari and Williams are still hosting their own launches.

Speaking at the Autosport Awards on Wednesday, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner was hopeful his squad would be in the mix again this year after dropping to third in last year’s constructors’ championship, calling 2025 too close to call between McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes and his own outfit.

“I think it’s going to be super tight. You’re going to have four teams that are going to be very competitive, so take your pick,” Horner said, before collecting the International Driver of the Year award on behalf of Verstappen.

“But McLaren are going to be strong. Ferrari are going to be strong. Mercedes are going to have something to prove as well. So, it could be a stellar year.”

With the RB21 Red Bull is aiming to cure some of its predecessor’s balance issues that derailed a large part of its 2024 campaign, but will face a development programme which – like all teams – it must balance with work on the all-new 2026 regulations.

  • David Ortiz Delivers On-Brand (NSFW) Message At Boston Common TGL Debut

David Ortiz had a message for those rockin’ green and representing Boston.

No, not the Celtics, although they could use a motivational message amid their slump.

Ortiz attended Boston Common Golf’s TGL debut against Jupiter Links Golf Club at SoFi Center on Monday, and offered a familiar rally cry sports fans surely will recognize.

“This is our (expletive) city!” Ortiz told ESPN’s Marty Smith. “Let’s go guys!”

The Red Sox legend has been one of the biggest Boston Common Golf supporters since the Ballfrogs were introduced. Ortiz seems confident Rory McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama, who hasn’t yet made his debut, will have Boston in postseason contention when the time comes.

    Story continues below advertisement

“Boston is the city of champions, man,” Ortiz said on the broadcast. “It’s a city that supports sport better than any other city. And when you come to Boston, you gotta bring it.”

Boston Common’s debut lived up to the hype despite the fact the Ballfrogs ultimately lost to Tiger Woods and JLGC after an entertaining closest-to-the-pin overtime.

Boston Common will be back at SoFi Center on the campus of Palm Beach State College on Monday. The Ballfrogs will try for a bounce-back win against Los Angeles Golf Club with players set to take the first tee at 9 p.m. ET.

David Ortiz, former Red Sox player and beloved Boston icon, made a grand entrance at the Boston Common for the debut of his new Tequila brand, TGL. The crowd went wild as Big Papi strutted onto the stage, exuding his signature charisma and charm.

But what really got the crowd roaring was Ortiz’s NSFW message. With a twinkle in his eye, he declared, “This tequila ain’t for the faint of heart. It’s for those who like it bold, like me.” The crowd erupted in cheers and applause, clearly loving Ortiz’s on-brand message.

As he raised a glass of TGL to the crowd, Ortiz proved once again why he is a fan favorite in Boston. With his larger-than-life personality and unapologetic attitude, he delivered a message that was perfectly on-brand for TGL and left the crowd wanting more.

Overall, David Ortiz’s debut at the Boston Common for TGL was a huge success, and fans can’t wait to see what he has in store next. Cheers to Big Papi and his new venture!

  • Karoline Leavitt, White House Press Secretary, Makes Steely and Unflinching Debut

So much for respecting your elders.

Karoline Leavitt, the new White House press secretary — at 27, the youngest person ever to hold the job — kicked off her first briefing on Tuesday afternoon by reminding all the veteran reporters in assembly that they had become more irrelevant than ever. “Americans’ trust in mass media has fallen to a record low,” she said right off the top.

Twisting the knife, she added: “Millions of Americans — especially young people — have turned from traditional television outlets and newspapers.”

The place was packed with network television anchors and rumpled newspaper reporters who had been slinging questions around that cramped room since before Ms. Leavitt learned to walk or talk (which would have been sometime toward the end of the Clinton presidency). Smiling, ever-so-sweetly, she told the old-timers they’d have to make room for all the flashy new bloggers, influencers, “content creators” and podcasters she planned to invite to her briefings on a regular basis. It was, she said, high time that the White House “adapt” to the “new media landscape.”

And so, it was a new day in the old briefing room. Mr. Trump’s top flack wasted no time throwing down the gauntlet in her first performance behind the lectern. She was steely and her patience seemed to be in short supply at points. She betrayed no fear and little ambivalence and she seemed quite confident speaking on her boss’s behalf. Which was not always the case for some of her predecessors.

“She has a fantastic relationship with President Trump that’s much deeper than I had,” Sean Spicer, who was Mr. Trump’s first press secretary, said earlier this month. Ms. Leavitt, who was a low-level aide in the first Trump administration, spent the last year duking it out by Mr. Trump’s side as the press secretary for his campaign. She already speaks his language.

But campaigning is different from governing. Her job is no longer to explain why her boss should be president. It is to explain what precisely is happening now that he is. The new administration’s assault on the federal bureaucracy this first week has been deep-reaching, and many of the questions Ms. Leavitt fielded on Tuesday concerned the sudden and sweeping pause of grants, loans and other forms of federal assistance ordered up by the White House budget office. One reporter asked a follow-up about programs that might be cut — citing Meals on Wheels, which provides meals for over 2 million seniors — and Ms. Leavitt seemed almost bored, if not outright irritated. “I have now been asked and answered this question four times,” she said.

There was really only one moment of hesitation. When asked whether she could guarantee that no one would be cut off from Medicaid, she paused for a moment and said: “I’ll check back on that and get back to you.”

Otherwise, Ms. Leavitt was unapologetic and unflinching. Wearing a plum blazer and rather conspicuous cross pendant (she is a graduate of Saint Anselm, a Catholic school in New Hampshire, where she is from), she peppered her responses with punchy, right-wing political terms like “transgenderism” and “wokeness,” and she seemed to relish telling reporters, “I hope you’re all ready to work very hard.”

As is custom with a new press secretary, she was asked if she viewed her job as telling the truth to the public. Yes, she said, but then she flipped it back on the press: “We know for a fact there have been lies that have been pushed by many legacy media outlets in this country about this president, about his family, and we will not accept that.” She did not get into specifics but, in what was perhaps a preview of many a briefing room battle to come, she added that “we will call you out when we feel that your reporting is wrong or there is misinformation about this White House.”

She was pressed about whether Mr. Trump had personally directed the firings of inspectors general across various government agencies and of prosecutors who had worked with the special counsel, Jack Smith, on the cases he had brought against Mr. Trump. “Yes,” she eventually said, dispassionately.

A question about whether this administration would celebrate Black History Month seemed tailor-made to bait Ms. Leavitt into some kind of headline-making exchange, but she answered it coolly — “We will continue to celebrate American history and the contributions that all Americans, regardless of race, religion or creed, have made to our great country” — and kept the show moving right along.

There was little of the circuslike atmosphere that had defined the briefing room during Mr. Trump’s first term. Though these are early days yet.

So far, the president’s allies seem pleased with Ms. Leavitt’s debut. “Today was incredible,” said Stephen K. Bannon, who served as White House chief strategist in Mr. Trump’s first term.

He had one big piece of advice for her, though: Move the briefings out of the West Wing and into the Eisenhower Executive Office Building down the street. That way, he said, the James S. Brady briefing room could be reverted to its function when John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson were in office. “Turn it back into a swimming pool for the president and his family,” he advised.

Karoline Leavitt, the newly appointed White House Press Secretary, made a bold and unflinching debut during her first press briefing today. With a steely resolve and unwavering confidence, Leavitt fielded tough questions from reporters with poise and grace.

Leavitt, who previously served as the Deputy Press Secretary, showed that she is more than capable of handling the intense pressure of the role. She didn’t shy away from difficult topics and remained composed throughout the briefing, never once wavering in her responses.

Her debut was met with praise from both supporters and critics alike, with many commending her for her professionalism and ability to handle the tough questions thrown her way. Leavitt’s no-nonsense approach and commitment to transparency were evident, setting the tone for what is sure to be a successful tenure as White House Press Secretary.

As she continues to navigate the challenging world of media relations, one thing is clear: Karoline Leavitt is a force to be reckoned with, and she is not afraid to show it. Watch out, Washington – there’s a new powerhouse in town.

  • Harshit Rana makes T20I debut as concussion substitute against England in Pune

Indian pacer Harshit Rana made his T20I debut against England in the fourth match of the series in Pune, stepping in as a concussion substitute for Shivam Dube. Dube suffered a blow to the head in the final over of India’s innings, prompting the team to bring in Rana under the concussion substitute rule.

The Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler made an immediate impact, dismissing England’s hard-hitting Liam Livingstone with just his second delivery. Rana’s debut as a concussion substitute places him in a rare group of cricketers who have made their international debut in this unusual manner.

In the past, players such as Brian Mudzinganyama (Test, Zimbabwe, 2020), Neil Rock (ODI, Ireland, 2022), and Matt Parkinson (Test, England, 2022) have also earned their first caps as concussion replacements. More recently, Kamran Ghulam (ODI, Pakistan, 2023) and Bahir Shah (Test, Afghanistan, 2023) have joined the list, with Rana becoming the latest entrant in 2025.

Earlier, Dube’s aggressive batting guided India to a competitive total of 181 for 9 after the top order struggled to cope with the short-pitched deliveries from England’s pacers in the fourth T20 International on Friday.

Coming in at No. 7, Hardik Pandya was both stylish and destructive, smashing four boundaries and an equal number of sixes in his 30-ball 53. Dube, who contributed a solid 53 off 34 balls, joined forces with Pandya for an 87-run partnership off 48 balls for the sixth wicket. This came after pacer Saqib Mahmood (3/35 in 4 overs) reduced India to a precarious 12 for 3 by the end of the second over.

IND vs ENG, 4th T20I Live Updates

Dube was returning to national duty after a tough outing in the Ranji Trophy, where he had bagged a pair against Jammu and Kashmir the previous week. Pandya, often seen as a potential successor to MS Dhoni’s finisher role, began aggressively before rotating the strike for a few overs. He then unleashed a brutal assault on the English bowlers, though his innings was cut short by a shot that proved too ambitious.

Dube, with seven fours and two sixes, provided excellent support, and India scored 109 runs in the final 10 overs. Mahmood, playing his first match of the series, struck thrice in his opening over, with all three dismissals being well-executed.

As expected, Sanju Samson (1) once again struggled against the quick bowling, particularly short-pitched deliveries. Mahmood bowled one just back of length, and Samson’s pull shot went straight to Brydon Carse at deep fine leg.

  • Harshit Rana becomes first Indian cricketer to make T20I debut as a concussion sub, replaces Shivam Dube vs England

Harshit Rana made his T20I debut in rather unusual circumstances, becoming the first Indian cricketer to play his first international match in this format as a concussion substitute. Rana, who was not originally a part of India’s playing XI for the fourth T20I against England at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, came into the side as a concussion substitute for all-rounder Shivam Dube.

Dube, who himself was playing his first match of the series, replacing Washington Sundar in the XI, smashed 53 off 34 balls to help India reach 181/9 in their allotted 20 overs. The lanky left-hander, who coped with a few body blows early into his innings courtesy of some hostile bowling from England fast bowler Jofra Archer, was hit on the helmet by a Jamie Overton bouncer on the penultimate ball of the Indian innings.

Dube was run out while coming back for a second run on the last ball of the over and did not come out to the field. The medical team was looking after him. Ramandeep Singh was in the field for the first six over.

Rana, meanwhile, came in as the substitute after the powerplay. The official confirmation for the same came a couple of overs later. “Harshit Rana is the concussion substitute for Shivam Dube,” the BCCI said.

By then Rana had already left a mark on the match by taking a sharp catch off Ravi Bishnoi’s bowling that saw the back of England captain Jos Buttler.

Rana was introduced to the attack in the 12th over, and he was successful as early as the second ball of his spell. Liam Livingstone got an outside edge to keeper Sanju Samson.

Rana made his Test debut in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and played the first two Tests.

Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube power India to 181/9

Earlier, Coming in at No. 7, Pandya was stylish and destructive in equal measure hitting four boundaries and an equal number of maximums in his 30-ball-53.

Dube (53 off 34 balls) also didn’t do too badly in a stand of 87 off 48 balls for the sixth wicket after pacer Saqib Mahmood (3/35 in 4 overs) reduced India to 12 for 3 by the end of second over.

Dube was coming back into national colours after bagging a pair in a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir last week.

But Pandya, who many feel can take MS Dhoni’s role as a finisher, began with an aggressive approach, then rotated the strike for a few overs before launching a brutal final assault on the English bowlers. However his innings was cut short by one shot too many.

He got an able ally in Dube, who hit seven fours and two sixes as India got as many as 109 runs in the back-10.

Mahmood, playing his first game of the series, struck thrice in his first over and all three were well-planned dismissals.

Harshit Rana creates history as first Indian cricketer to debut as a concussion sub in T20I match against England

In a groundbreaking moment for Indian cricket, Harshit Rana has become the first Indian cricketer to make his T20I debut as a concussion substitute. Rana replaced Shivam Dube in the ongoing T20I series against England after Dube suffered a concussion during the match.

The 24-year-old all-rounder was called up to the Indian squad as a replacement player for the injured Hardik Pandya, and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Rana impressed with his performance in domestic cricket and was rewarded with a chance to represent his country in the shortest format of the game.

Rana’s debut as a concussion substitute highlights the importance of player safety in cricket and the protocols in place to protect the well-being of athletes. His inclusion in the playing XI is a testament to his talent and hard work, and it marks a significant milestone in his cricketing career.

As Rana takes to the field in his first T20I match against England, Indian cricket fans are eagerly awaiting to see what he can bring to the team. His selection as a concussion sub showcases the depth and talent in Indian cricket, and it is a proud moment for both Rana and Indian cricket as a whole.

  • Weekend Preview: DOG MAN Expected to Debut Above $20M

    Courtesy of Universal Pictures

    The Boxoffice Podium

Forecasting the Top 3 Movies at the Domestic Box Office | January 31 – February 2, 2025

    Week 5 | January 31 – February 2, 2025

    1. Dog Man
    Universal Pictures/Dreamworks Animation | NEW
    Weekend Range: $25M – $35M
    Showtime Market Share: 19%

    Pros

A spin-off of Dav Pilkey’s phenomenally popular juvenile book series Captain Underpants, Dog Man is the movie to beat this weekend. Our numbers are conservative, with several members in our forecasting team thinking this title can seriously overperform. A surprise overperformance above $35M isn’t off the table, but we’re currently keeping pace with our original tracking in the $25 to $35M range. With no direct family competition, Dog Man will easily finish the weekend on top. Early reviews trickling in after the film premiered at France’s Festival de l’Alpe d’Huez seem to be leaning majority positive/fresh, though this is about as review-proof as family films get. Dreamworks’ first Captain Underpants movie in 2017 earned an 87% Certified Fresh. As an added bonus, the studio is attaching a short set within the world of The Bad Guys as a prelude/ad for The Bad Guys 2 which drops in August.

    Cons

Anything under a $20M opening on this one will be a disappointment, although in typical recent Dreamworks style they have outsourced the animation on Dog Man to partner studios to keep costs down. Plushes, popcorn buckets, and soda toppers are just some of the merch theater chains like Regal have in store with the anticipated family onslaught, but is Dog Man too much of an ancillary property? Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie took in less than $100M stateside ($73.9M) when it opened in June 2017, so to expect Dog Man to be the Minions to Captain UnderpantsDespicable Me might be optimistic.

    2. Companion
    Warner Bros. Pictures | NEW
    Weekend Range: $8M – $12M
    Showtime Market Share: 12%

    Pros

The AI-run-amok genre continues to expand with Companion, a film in which a companion sex robot gains sentience. Zach Cregger of the sleeper hit Barbarian flexes his producer muscles on this one, while star Sophie Thatcher continues to evolve into the scream queen du jour (The Boogeyman, Maxxxine, Heretic). Reviews for this title are pristine at a current 94% on RT, which gives it a lot of momentum with the horror crowd.

    Cons

Companion could conceivably overperform as high as $15M, but we’re being conservative in our forecast to keep pace with recent horror performances. If word of mouth delivers, this one can leg out in the coming weeks, but Presence had 90% RT going into last weekend and failed to ignite. A good comp would be 2015’s experimental pleasure robot thriller Ex Machina, although that one built up slow with two weeks of limited platforming before going wide to ultimately do $25.4M domestic. Based on trailers Companion appears to have more levity and may be more of a crowd pleaser.

    3. Mufasa: The Lion King
Walt Disney Pictures | Week 7
    Weekend Range: $4M – $6M
    Showtime Market Share: 8%

    Pros

Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King continues to leg it out into the bleak January months, collecting $8.59M to take the #2 spot this past weekend. That was only a 29% drop from Frame 5, with the current domestic total at $220.96M and $627.99M globally. We think Mufasa can stay in the top three, but it’s really down to how much business it can keep with new competition from Dog Man.

    Cons

The family box office is going to the dogs. Dreamworks’ Dog Man is looking to not only usurp the family audience this frame but likely well into spring when Disney’s Snow White enters the woods. The lions have had their day and will head onto streaming shortly. If Dog Man overperforms this weekend, we think Flight Risk can sneak up to take third place.

    3. Flight Risk
    Lionsgate | Week 2
    Weekend Range: $4M – $6M
    Showtime Market Share: 9%

    Pros

Lionsgate’s B-movie programmer Flight Risk took the top spot last week with $11.58M, down from the initial $12M estimates. Hopefully it can use some of that #1 movie in America momentum to earn solid in Frame 2. Right now it’s a coin toss as to whether this or Mufasa will take third place.

    Cons

It’s more than fair to say that both director Mel Gibson and star Mark Wahlberg have seen better days in their careers. A “C” CinemaScore plus 25% Rotten Tomatoes critical means the word is out and it is not complimentary.

This weekend is shaping up to be an exciting one at the box office, with the highly anticipated animated film DOG MAN expected to debut above $20 million. Based on the popular children’s book series by Dav Pilkey, DOG MAN follows the adventures of a half-dog, half-man superhero as he fights crime and saves the day.

With its charming characters, witty humor, and heartwarming story, DOG MAN has been generating buzz among audiences of all ages. Early tracking numbers suggest that the film will easily surpass the $20 million mark in its opening weekend, making it a strong contender at the box office.

In addition to DOG MAN, there are several other films hitting theaters this weekend, including the action-packed thriller “The Protégé” starring Maggie Q and Michael Keaton, and the horror film “Candyman” directed by Nia DaCosta.

Whether you’re a fan of animated adventures, thrilling action, or spine-tingling horror, there’s something for everyone at the box office this weekend. So grab your popcorn, sit back, and enjoy the show!

  • Dave Grohl Reveals Nirvana’s ‘SNL’ Debut Nearly Ended In ‘Titanic-Level Disaster’

Nirvana’s debut “Saturday Night Live” performance was a perfect introduction to the grunge genre for untold viewers watching live on Jan. 11, 1992, but it nearly ended in a “Titanic-level disaster,” drummer Dave Grohl revealed in a new documentary Monday.

Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music,” directed by Oscar-winning documentarian Questlove of The Roots, chronicles the triumphs, pranks and accidents that have befallen musical guests on the iconic NBC show — with Nirvana’s debut arguably near the top.

Grohl recalled being “absolutely fucking terrified” when they arrived at “SNL” four months after their debut studio album, “Nevermind,” was released, and said in “50 Years” that he got even more nervous when the crew counted them down for their live performance.

“The room gets dead silent,” the Foo Fighters frontman said. “Your heart is racing and you’re thinking, ‘Oh my God, I’m gonna faint, I’m gonna puke on live television, I’m gonna die.’ And, typically, what happens if I get nervous, I beat the shit out of the drums twice as hard.”

While that performance anxiety certainly helped him launch into “Smells Like Teen Spirit” with a vengeance when host Rob Morrow introduced the band, Grohl revealed that he “snapped my snare stick in half” when they were “only like 20 seconds into the song.”

Frontman Kurt Cobain gave no sign of noticing while belting out his lyrics.

“I was hitting the drums 10 times harder than I’ve ever hit them before in my life,” Grohl admitted in the documentary. “There was one break right before the first drum roll, I think, where I grabbed another stick really quick and busted into it.”

He continued, “I mean, it was so close to being, like, ‘Titanic’-level disaster.”

The performance was ultimately anything but, as then-“SNL” cast member Adam Sandler testified in the documentary: “People were talking about it, getting more calls than you ever got before from friends in my hometown, just like, ‘What’s he like? What’s Kurt like?’”

Cobain’s substance abuse issues eventually contributed to his suicide on April 5, 1994. Nirvana performed on “SNL” one last time on Sept. 25, 1993, months before Cobain died at the age of 27.

Dave Grohl, former drummer of Nirvana and current frontman of the Foo Fighters, recently opened up about the band’s iconic debut on Saturday Night Live, revealing that it nearly ended in a “Titanic-level disaster.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Grohl recalled the nerves and excitement leading up to Nirvana’s appearance on the late-night sketch comedy show in 1992. The band was already riding high on the success of their hit album “Nevermind,” and the pressure was on to deliver a memorable performance.

However, things took a turn for the worse when, just moments before going on stage, Grohl realized that his drum set had been set up incorrectly. As he frantically tried to reposition the drums, he accidentally knocked over a cymbal, causing a loud crash that could be heard throughout the studio.

“I thought, ‘This is it, we’re done for,’” Grohl recalled. “It felt like the whole world was watching us fail in real-time.”

Despite the mishap, Nirvana went on to deliver a stellar performance, playing their hits “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Territorial Pissings” with raw energy and intensity. The band’s electrifying set not only won over the audience but also solidified their status as one of the most iconic rock bands of the 90s.

Looking back on that fateful night, Grohl can now laugh about the incident, joking that it was just another “rock ‘n’ roll moment” in Nirvana’s tumultuous career. And while the SNL debut may have been a close call, it ultimately helped propel the band to even greater heights.

As Grohl put it, “It was chaos, but it was beautiful chaos.” And for fans of Nirvana, that chaotic energy is what made the band so special and unforgettable.
