GloRilla officially stepped into Studio 8H on Jan. 18, marking her highly anticipated Saturday Night Live debut as the musical guest alongside host Dave Chappelle.
The 25-year-old Memphis rapper opened her performance in dramatic fashion, donning an orange jumpsuit and standing behind bars on a jail-themed set that later transitioned into a front porch scene. She performed “Yeah Glo!” from her 2024 mixtape, Ehhthang Ehhthang. The anthemic track has earned GloRilla two Grammy nominations for best rap song and best rap performance at the upcoming 2025 ceremony, set to air Feb. 2.
More from Billboard
Later in the show, GloRilla returned for a dynamic medley of tracks from her 2024 debut album, Glorious, which hit No. 5 on the Billboard 200. The performance featured a vibrant pink and purple backdrop, with GloRilla and her dancers delivering energetic choreography. She mashed up “Whatchu Kno About Me” and “Let Her Cook,” wearing a shiny pink ensemble.
GloRilla’s SNL debut comes three months after the release of Glorious, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The project spawned the single “TGIF,” which peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100, Glo’s highest-reaching unaccompanied entry on the chart.
SNL is currently in its 50th season, with a special anniversary episode planned for Feb. 16. This season has seen appearances from high-profile hosts like Ariana Grande, Charli XCX, John Mulaney and Chris Rock, while musical guests have included Hozier, Gracie Abrams and Stevie Nicks, among others.
SNL returns on Jan. 25 with Timothée Chalamet pulling double duty as both host and musical guest. Chalamet recently portrayed Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, the biopic directed by James Mangold. The Dune actor performed all of his own vocals in the film.

When Chadwick Boseman died in 2020 at the age of 43, Marvel Studios decided not to recast the role of T’Challa, and instead had Leitita Wright’s Shuri inherit the Black Panther mantle in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the 30th of the Marvel movies in order. However, not only did we learn in Wakanda Forever’s end-credits scene that the late superhero’s son, Toussaint, also has the Wakandan name T’Challa, it was also rumored earlier this month that casting is underway to find someone to play a different version of an adult T’Challa. While this has yet to be officially confirmed, there’s now word on when this particular Black Panther will debut.
If scooper @MyTimeToShineHello (via ComicBookMovie) is to be believed, the plan is to feature the new T’Challa in the upcoming Marvel moviesAvengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, then have him take center stage for Black Panther 3, which Denzel Washington will appear in. With both those movies being capstones to The Multiverse Saga that’s been running since 2021, it stands to reason that this T’Challa will hail from another corner of the Marvel multiverse. What hasn’t been clarified is if this will be a fully-grown take on Toussaint or a variant of the T’Challa Chadwick Boseman played, though my money’s on the latter.
Whomever it ends up being, this echo how Chadwick Boseman debuted as T’Challa in Captain America: Civil War, then starred in Black Panther two years later. Assuming all this is accurate, Marvel Studios wants to follow suit by having Doomsday and Secret Wars serve as an appetizer of sorts for this new T’Challa to show off his stuff. Then once the threat of the Robert Downey Jr.-portrayed Doctor Doom and the villains allied with him as been vanquished, Phase 7 launches the next saga, and Black Panther 3 will be part of that slate. Now I wonder if this T’Challa would be active in the main MCU reality or operating in a different universe in the threequel, though the answer to that question should become clearer once Secret Wars is out.
The scooper also shared in an earlier post that John David Washington, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Aaron Pierre are being looked at to play the new T’Challa. Take that with an especially big grain of salt for now, especially with Pierre, as he’s going to be busy playing John Stewart in the upcoming DC TV showLanterns. The only concern I have about this recasting, assuming it’s true, is that I worry this will result in Shuri being sidelined, which I don’t want to happen. She’s the current Black Panther and she should be able to hold onto that mantle for longer than just the latter half of Wakanda Forever.
Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars respectively come out on May 1, 2026 and May 7, 2027, though ideally we’ll get an official confirmation or denial of a new Black Panther appearing in either movie sometime later this year. For now, stream all of the MCU’s Black Panther-related content with a Disney+ subscription.
It has been rumored for some time now that Marvel Studios will be introducing a new T’Challa in the upcoming Black Panther sequel. And now, new details have emerged about when fans can expect to see this new iteration of the iconic character.
According to sources, the new T’Challa will make his debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is set to be released on November 11, 2022. This news has sparked speculation and excitement among fans, who are eager to see how the character will be portrayed in the wake of Chadwick Boseman’s passing.
While details about the new T’Challa remain scarce, it is clear that Marvel is dedicated to honoring Boseman’s legacy while also moving the character forward in a new direction. With the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever just around the corner, fans won’t have to wait long to see how this new chapter in the Black Panther saga unfolds. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available!
Bob Santos, the 2022 Sports Illustrated and The Ring magazine Trainer of the Year, is a busy fellow. On Feb. 1, fighters under his tutelage will open and close the show on the four-bout main portion of the Prime Video PPV event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Jeison Rosario continues his comeback in the lid-lifter, opposing Jesus Ramos. In the finale, former Cuban amateur standout David Morrell will attempt to saddle David Benavidez with his first defeat. Both combatants in the main event have been chasing 168-pound kingpin Canelo Alvarez, but this bout will be contested for a piece of the light heavyweight title.
When the show is over, Santos will barely have time to exhale. Before the month is over, one will likely find him working the corner of Dainier Pero, Brian Mendoza, Elijah Garcia, and perhaps others.
Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) turned 28 last month. He is in the prime of his career. However, a lot of folk rate Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) a very live dog. At last look, Benavidez was a consensus 7/4 (minus-175) favorite, a price that betokens a very competitive fight.
Bob Santos, needless to say, is confident that his guy can upset the odds. “I have worked with both,” he says. “It’s a tough fight for David Morrell, but he has more ways to victory because he’s less one-dimensional. He can go forward or fight going back and his foot speed is superior.”
Benavidez’s big edge, in the eyes of many, is his greater experience. He captured the vacant WBC 168-pound title at age 20, becoming the youngest super middleweight champion in history. As a pro, Benavidez has answered the bell for 148 rounds compared with only 54 for Morrell, but Bob Santos thinks this angle is largely irrelevant.
“Sure, I’d rather have pro experience than amateur experience,” he says, “but if you look at Benavidez’s record, he fought a lot of soft opponents when he was climbing the ladder.”
True. Benavidez, who turned pro at age 16, had his first seven fights in Mexico against a motley assortment of opponents. His first bout on U.S. soil occurred in his native Pheonix against an opponent with a 1-6-2 record.
While it’s certainly true that Morrell, 26, has yet to fight an opponent the caliber of Caleb Plant, he took up boxing at roughly the same tender age as Benavidez and earned his spurs in the vaunted Cuban amateur system, eventually defeating elite amateurs in international tournaments.
“If you look at his [pro] record, you will notice that [Morrell] has hardly lost a round,” says Santos of the fighter who captured an interim title in only his third professional bout with a 12-round decision over Guyanese veteran Lennox Allen.
Bob Santos is something of a late bloomer. He was around boxing for a long time, assisting such notables as Joe Goossen, Emanuel Steward, and Ronnie Shields before becoming recognized as one of the sport’s top trainers.
A native of San Jose, he grew up in a Hispanic neighborhood but not in a household where Spanish was spoken. “I know enough now to get by,” he says modestly. He attended James Lick High School whose most famous alumnus is Heisman winning and Super Bowl winning quarterback Jim Plunkett. “We worked in the same apricot orchard when we were kids,” says Santos. “Not at the same time, but in the same field.”
After graduation, he followed his father’s footsteps into construction work, but boxing was always beckoning. A cousin, the late Luis Molina, represented the U.S. as a lightweight in the 1956 Melbourne Summer Olympics, and was good enough as a pro to appear in a main event at Madison Square Garden where he lost a narrow decision to the notorious Puerto Rican hothead Frankie Narvaez, a future world title challenger.
Santos’ cousin was a big draw in San Jose in an era when the San Jose / Sacramento territory was the bailiwick of Don Chargin. “Don was a beautiful man and his wife Lorraine was even nicer,” says Santos of the husband/wife promotion team who are enshrined in the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Don Chargin was inducted in 2001 and Lorraine posthumously in 2018.
Chargin promoted Fresno-based featherweight Hector Lizarraga who captured the IBF title in 1997. Lizarraga turned his career around after a 5-7-3 start when he hooked up with San Jose gym operator Miguel Jara. It was one of the most successful reclamation projects in boxing history and Bob Santos played a part in it.
Bob hopes to accomplish the same turnaround with Jeison Rosario whose career was on the skids when Santos got involved. In his most recent start, Rosario held heavily favored Jarrett Hurd to a draw in a battle between former IBF 154-pound champions on a ProBox card in Florida.
“I consider that one of my greatest achievements,” says Santos, noting that Rosario was stopped four times and effectively out of action for two years before resuming his career and is now on the cusp of earning another title shot.
The boxer with whom Santos is most closely identified is former four-division world title-holder Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero. The slick southpaw, the pride of Gilroy, California, the self-proclaimed “Garlic Capital of the World,” retired following a bad loss to Omar Figueroa Jr, but had second thoughts and is currently riding a six-fight winning streak. “I’ve known him since he was 15 years old,” notes Santos.
Years from now, Santos may be more closely identified with the Pero brothers, Dainier and Lenier, who aspire to be the Cuban-American version of the Klitschko brothers.
Santos describes Dainier, one of the youngest members of Cuba’s Olympic Team in Tokyo, as a bigger version of Oleksandr Usyk. That may be stretching it, but Dainier (10-0, 8 KOs as a pro), certainly hits harder.
Dainier Pero
This reporter was a fly on the wall as Santos put Dainier Pero through his paces on Tuesday (Jan. 14) at Bones Adams gym in Las Vegas. Santos held tight to a punch shield, in the boxing vernacular a donut, as the Cuban practiced his punches. On several occasions the trainer was knocked off-balance and the expression on his face as his body absorbed some of the after-shocks, plainly said, “My goodness, what the hell am I doing here? There has to be an easier way to make a living.” It was an assignment that Santos would have undoubtedly preferred handing off to his young assistant, his son Joe Santos, but Joe was preoccupied coordinating David Morrell’s camp.
Dainer’s brother Lenier is also an ex-Olympian, and like Dainier was a super heavyweight by trade as an amateur. With an 11-0 (8 KOs) record, Lenier Pero’s pro career was on a parallel path until stalled by a managerial dispute. Lenier last fought in March of last year and Santos says he will soon join his brother in Las Vegas.
There’s little to choose between the Pero brothers, but Dainier is considered to have the bigger upside because at age 25 he is the younger sibling by seven years.
Bob Santos was in the running again this year for The Ring magazine’s Trainer of the Year, one of six nominees for the honor that was bestowed upon his good friend Robert Garcia. Considering the way that Santos’ career is going, it’s a safe bet that he will be showered with many more accolades in the years to come.

Japanese judoka Mizuki Hiruta made a stunning debut in the United States, dominating her opponents and showing why she is a force to be reckoned with in the world of judo. Competing at the prestigious Commerce Judo Club tournament, Hiruta showcased her incredible skills and talent, easily defeating her rivals and claiming victory in her first U.S. competition.
Not to be outdone, American judoka Omar Trinidad also had a stellar performance at the tournament, emerging victorious in his matches and impressing the crowd with his techniques and determination. Trinidad’s success added to the excitement of the event and solidified his reputation as a rising star in the judo world.
Both Hiruta and Trinidad’s impressive performances at the Commerce Judo Club tournament are a testament to their hard work, dedication, and skill in the sport of judo. As they continue to train and compete, it’s clear that they have bright futures ahead of them. Congratulations to Mizuki Hiruta and Omar Trinidad on their well-deserved victories!
The ending was anticlimactic, though Mizuki ‘Mimi’ Hiruta still left a lasting impression in her U.S. debut.
A clash of heads produced a halt to an otherwise dominant performance by Tokyo’s Hiruta, The Ring’s No. 1 junior bantamweight and WBO titlist who outpointed Maribel Ramirez to defend her belt. Scores were 80-71, 80-71 and 79-72 for Hiruta in their UFC Fight Pass co-feature Friday evening at Commerce Casino in Commerce, California.
Hiruta (7-0, 2 KOs) was all gas, no brakes from the opening bell. The 28-year-old, pink-haired southpaw performed in a control manner, to where she didn’t waste any punches or allow Ramirez to ever establish a rhythm.
Ramirez (15-11-4, 3 KOs) was down twice in the opening round, though both were accurately ruled as slips. The 38-year-old Mexico City native wasn’t as fortunate in round two, when she was floored by a combination.
Hiruta continued to fight in a manner indicative of a defending titlist hopeful of a stoppage victory. Straight lefts landed with regularity but it was a right hand which caused a gruesome cut over Ramirez’s left eye midway through the fight.
Ramirez caught the unlikeliest of breaks from a headbutt late in the seventh round. Hiruta attempted to set up a left hand, but missed with a lead right which cupped the back of Ramirez’s heads and caused the clash. It produced a lump on top of Ramirez’s already existing cut.
The second wound was deemed too severe to continue at the start of the eighth round, which prompted the technical decision.
Hiruta made the third defense of the WBO 115-pound title she claimed in Dec. 2022. All of her previous six fights took place at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo before Friday. The win over Ramirez also marked her first in a new promotional deal with 360 Promotions.
ALI AKHMEDOV BLASTS OUT MALCOLM JONES INSIDE OF TWO
A much-needed walkover night was produced by Ali Akhmedov, who tore through Indianapolis’ Malcolm Jones (17-5-1, 10 KOs).
Kazakhstan’s Akhmedov (23-1, 17 KOs) didn’t waste anytime to take control of the action and closed out the fight with a barrage of punches which left Jones defenseless. Referee Thomas Taylor stopped the contest at 1:17 of round two.
Akhmedov extended his win streak to seven in a row since a Dec. 2020 twelfth-round knockout loss to then-unbeaten Carlos Gongora in Hollywood, Florida.

Los Angeles’ Iyana ‘Roxy’ Verduzco (3-0, 1 KO) avoided the scorecards for the first time in her young career with a third-round stoppage of Lindsey Ellis (2-2, 2 KOs). A series of straight left shots upstairs left Tennessee’s Ellis unable to defend herself, which forced referee Ray Corona stop the contest at 1:33 of round three.
GLORIA MUNGUILLA OUTLASTS BROOK SIBRIAN IN ALL-ACTION FIGHT
Gloria Munguilla picked up her second consecutive win but had to withstand a stubborn effort from Brook Sibrian (5-2, 2 KOs) to prevail via eight-round, unanimous decision. Scores were 77-75, 77-75 and 79-73 for Los Angeles’ Munguilla (7-1, 0 KOs), whose lone defeat came to Amanda Serrano-managed Krystal Rosado last March.

Mizuki Hiruta Claims Technical Decision Win Over Maribel Ramirez, Defends WBO Title In U.S. Debut
In a highly anticipated match, Japanese boxing sensation Mizuki Hiruta successfully defended her WBO title in her U.S. debut against challenger Maribel Ramirez. The fight, which took place at the iconic Madison Square Garden, saw Hiruta showcase her technical prowess and resilience in the face of a tough opponent.
The bout started off with both fighters trading blows, with Ramirez showing her aggression and determination to dethrone the reigning champion. However, Hiruta’s superior footwork and counter-punching skills proved to be the difference as she started to gain control of the fight as it progressed.
In the fourth round, an accidental clash of heads resulted in a cut above Ramirez’s eye, prompting the ringside doctor to stop the fight and declare it a technical decision win for Hiruta. Despite the premature end to the bout, Hiruta’s dominance was evident as she was ahead on all scorecards at the time of the stoppage.
With this victory, Hiruta continues to solidify her status as one of the top fighters in the women’s boxing scene. Her impressive performance in her U.S. debut has further cemented her reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the sport.
Fans can expect to see more exciting fights from Mizuki Hiruta in the future as she looks to defend her title and take on new challenges in her quest for greatness.
Ty Gibbs has completely thrown himself into the deep end here.
The NASCAR Cup Series youngster and grandson of team owner Joe Gibbs Racing has helped convince ‘The Coach’ to let all his drivers race on dirt again, leading to his own debut in the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals on Tuesday night.
Beyond his Midget debut in the Turkey Night Grand Prix, his experience in a Midget is quite minimal. He tested the Chad Boat owned indoor car at Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury, North Carolina and then had two three-minute hot laps on Sunday in practice day.
Now he’s going to race.
“It’s just super cool to be able to do this,” Gibbs told Sportsnaut on Sunday. “It’s been super fun. It’s just a blast. I had my first practice and there weren’t a lot of laps but it was really fun for what I got to do.
“It was like a dopamine hit. So much fun. I was excited when I was running around, doing laps, and just feeling it out. I feel more comfortable than I was last time, just that once, but I don’t know. I like it more and more each time I get in it.”
Gibbs tested a 410 Sprint Car over the autumn, which really started this process, both because he enjoys numerous disciplines of motorsports but also because Toyota is hugely invested in Midgets and Sprint Cars. He raced Micro Sprints all summer at Millbridge too.
But Indoor Midgets have wider tires and Gibbs is once again having to adjust because they race different than the outdoor counterpart.
“I feel like I had more grip than I honestly expected going into it,” Gibbs said of practice. “I don’t really know yet but I feel really good in the car. I feel comfortable. The car is driving me more than I’m driving it because I just don’t have the experience yet.
“I can’t say it enough, how much fun I’m having. I enjoy it and I just wish I could run more laps.”
Boat has really enjoyed working with and developing Gibbs as a dirt racer.
“First of all, Ty got into the Micro and immediately adapted to that, right,” Boat said. “Ty is a race car driver. I was very unsure at first because I wondered where this was going to go but I learned Ty is a race car driver, through and through.
“He has all the potential to learn it and now it’s just a matter of getting him laps. Like Daison Pursley is 20 years old and Ty isn’t much older but there is a difference of thousands of laps. Ty can’t ever catch up but we have to do everything we can to expedite that process.”
Boat praised his entire team for how much the likes of Pursley, Justin Grant and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. have all pitched in with Gibbs.
“He has a lot of guys to lean on and help him learn,” Boat said. “So we go into Tuesday with realistic goals and figure out where our starting point is here for the future. It’s no different when I bring a kid up from Micros here. You finish 18th? Okay, that’s a starting point. Let’s see where we are in 6-12 months and if we’re doing the right things from a process standpoint.
“If we do that, we’ll end up where we want to be.”
For his part, Gibbs is taking this seriously and he is aware that it’s going to be a process. But he wants to progress and he wants to expand his racing portfolio in the years to come.
“I want to go race everything,” Gibbs said. “Honestly, I would love to do everything I could. I love the open wheel stuff, dirt and asphalt. I wish I could race everything. I think maybe I can someday. Cup is my main focus and always will be but racing is fun.
“You know how much of a race fan I am. I love this. All of it. It’s my life. It’s the only thing I want to do and I don’t care about the naysayers or if anyone thinks I shouldn’t. I just really enjoy it.”
Gibbs said the atmosphere at Chili Bowl reminds him of going to Supercross and Motocross style events with his dad, the late Coy Gibbs. There is a lot of this that is Gibbs racing in a way that he believes he would have enjoyed with his dad.
“It’s a lot like racing bikes with my father and I wish I could go back any day of the week to go do that again,” Gibbs said. “It was so much fun. But this has very similar vibes. This is a blast, I’m learning a ton and I enjoy how much the track changes.
“It’s making me a smarter race car driver and I like all the ways it challenges me. It’s just really fun.”
Ty Gibbs, the rising star in the NASCAR world, is set to make his debut at the prestigious Chili Bowl Nationals. This marks a significant jump for the 19-year-old driver, who has primarily competed in stock car racing.
The Chili Bowl Nationals, held annually in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is known as the Super Bowl of midget car racing. It attracts some of the best drivers from across the country, making it a highly competitive event.
Gibbs, who comes from a racing family, has already shown his talent on the track with multiple wins in the ARCA Menards Series and the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Now, he is ready to test his skills in a different discipline of racing.
Jumping into the deep end at the Chili Bowl Nationals may be a daunting task for Gibbs, but with his natural talent and determination, he is sure to make a lasting impression. Fans are eager to see how he will fare against the experienced midget car drivers at this prestigious event.
Stay tuned as Ty Gibbs dives headfirst into the world of midget car racing at the Chili Bowl Nationals, ready to prove that he is a force to be reckoned with on any track.

Angel Reese really testing her own ball handling in some of these 1:1 situations. Clearly improved her confidence getting back to basket at the low block, still just working on keeping her dribble closer to body and getting enough separation to get her shot off.

MIAMI — Skylar Diggins-Smith separated herself from DiJonai Carrington just outside the 3-point arc and launched a shot to win the first game in Unrivaled history.
As it swooshed in, Diggins-Smith ran down the court, her Lunar Owls teammates chasing her in celebration as they beat the Mist on Friday night 84-80.
“This atmosphere was electric,” Diggins-Smith said at center court. “We’re going to celebrate this one tonight.”
The “winning score” in this new 3-on-3 women’s basketball league is determined by adding 11 points to the leading team’s score through three quarters. It means every game will be decided by a game-winner.
But this one was as good as Unrivaled could have dreamt of for its inaugural game.
“It was everything we were hoping for,” Lunar Owls player and league co-founder Napheesa Collier said. “I think this was a great first game just showing what we can do and showing what the experience can be like.”
The first night of Unrivaled saw its 870-seat arena at the MediaPro Center sell out. Fans lined up in light rain a few hours before the doors opened, enjoying the fan activations the league had set up for them. Inside, Hall of Famer Steve Nash and U.S. soccer star Alex Morgan sat courtside. WNBA executives were sprinkled throughout the stands.
In such a tight space, players said it felt like the spectators were “on top of us.” And playing on a neutral court, there was no homecourt advantage.
Jewell Loyd equated the energy in the building to a pickup game. Collier said it was like a high school basketball championship. Chelsea Gray said it surpassed both of those analogies.
“It was like, the fans were right there on the court,” said Gray, whose Rose lost to the Vinyl 79-73 in the second game. “Whether there was music or not, during the different runs of the game, there was always energy. I really like that atmosphere. Everyone just wanted to see good basketball.”
Added Collier: “Of course [the fanfare] is a distraction; it’s opening weekend. But we’ve been in that situation where there’s lots going on — playing in the finals, playing in college, in championship games. As a professional you’re able to block that out.”
With a condensed full court, rather than the half court played in Olympic 3×3 basketball, Unrivaled produces an extremely fast-paced game.
But players said they weren’t too surprised since considering it was the same style and tempo they experienced in training camp and preseason games.
“There’s not really a time where you take a possession off. There’s only three players on the floor,” Gray said. “It’s a little bit different from that perspective. But you got to be in shape for sure to be able to play this game.”
The Mist and Lunar Owls combined for 130 shots; the Vinyl and Rose attempted 126. Lloyd scored 34 points — 23 in the first half — and the Vinyl’s Rhyne Howard finished with 33.
Players noted how the shots taken weren’t out-of-character ones, but rather what the game requires with only three players per team on the court at once.
“It was really fun. We’ve been practicing, doing scrimmaging, so to get out there in front of a live crowd was really fun,” Collier said. “Just enjoying the experience of the game. There is a lot of fanfare involved but once the ball goes up, we’re just out there playing basketball.”
