  • Kelsea Ballerini debuts as a coach on ‘The Voice’ while headlining her own live tour. How?

Come February, country star Kelsea Ballerini will be spinning around in one of the iconic red chairs on “The Voice” while also performing in arenas across the country until spring.

How can she be on live TV and headline a major tour at the same time?!

The busy star is joining NBC’s Emmy-winning singing competition show, replacing Reba McEntire as the show’s designated country music coach.

“I feel so lucky to be a part of this. can’t wait for everyone to see the TALENT and vibes and happiness all around,” Ballerini wrote on Instagram in a post promoting the new season.

With a little help of Hollywood magic, Ballerini is doing double duty of helping her “Voice” team achieve their dreams while living hers.

When can you watch Kelsea Ballerini on ‘The Voice’?

Ballerini is one of the main celebrity coaches for season 27 of “The Voice,” along with returning original coach Adam Levine, Michael Bublé and John Legend.

“The Voice” premieres at 8 p.m. Feb. 3 on NBC. New episodes of the reality competition show will continue to air on NBC Mondays 8-10 p.m. and Tuesdays 9-10 p.m. until the season finale.

How is Kelsea Ballerini on ‘The Voice’ and on tour at the same time?

Ballerini kicked off her first headlining arena tour Jan. 21 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The 36-city tour is in support of her fifth studio album, “Patterns,” and is scheduled to conclude April 9 in North Charleston, South Carolina.

So exactly how will be the superstar be coaching her “Voice” team while simultaneously performing for fans at arenas around the country?

For new “Voice” watchers, the show’s format puts contestants through five stages of competition: blind auditions, battle rounds, knockout rounds, playoffs and, finally, live performance episodes.

Most episodes, or portions of episodes, are prerecorded before airing on NBC. The live performance and elimination episodes typically air later in the season.

Contestants are expected to be available for filming in May 2025, according to audition eligibility requirements. And the live shows of recent spring “Voice” seasons typically have been in May, with the season ending with a champion crowned.

Under that kind of production schedule, Ballerini will wrap up her tour a few weeks before the live episodes of “The Voice” would begin, having already filmed the auditions and competition rounds.

Is Kelsea Ballerini making a tour stop in Knoxville?

The former Central High School student is not expected to bring her tour to her hometown, according to the official tour schedule.

Knoxville fans still do have a few opportunities to see Ballerini live. Some nearby tour stops include:

Ticket prices are based on Ticketmaster search on Jan. 23. All tour dates are available at kelseaballerini.com/tour.

Ballerini last performed in Knoxville in 2023 for a special sold-out one-night-only concert at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center.

  • Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth to make PGA Tour season debuts at Pebble Beach

The PGA Tour will finally get a star-studded field to display next week at Pebble Beach.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will make his season debut at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, returning after cutting himself with broken glass while making ravioli over the holidays. He needed the glass surgically removed, and it led to him withdrawing from The Sentry and American Express tournaments this month. Scheffler, who won nine times worldwide in 2024 including the Masters, will attempt to win PGA Tour Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive year.

But it’s a week of debuts all around. Four-time major winner Rory McIlroy will also make his first PGA Tour start of the year at Pebble. The No. 3 player in the world typically waits a few weeks to join the West Coast swing after playing DP World Tour events over the winter. McIlroy won the DP World Tour Championship in November for his sixth Race to Dubai title and finished T4 last week at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

Three-time major winner Jordan Spieth will make his first appearance since undergoing wrist surgery after his 2024 season ended in August. The wrist injury first surfaced in 2023, but Spieth decided to play through it. It turned into the worst season of his professional career with just three top-20s in 22 starts. He finished outside the FedEx Cup top 50, meaning he’ll need sponsor exemptions to play in early signature events. AT&T, which counts Spieth as a longtime partner, gave him one for Pebble Beach.

However, Xander Schauffele is not in the field, withdrawing from the third-consecutive event with what Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis reported as a rib injury. Schauffele had been playing through the issue when he finished T30 at The Sentry to open the year but ultimately decided to rest from there.

One question mark who is playing is Viktor Hovland. The Norwegian played The Sentry with a broken toe and told reporters he’d see how he felt before committing to Pebble. He went to Dubai to play the DP World Tour event last and missed the cut. He’ll try to return to form in the second signature event of the season.

Pebble Beach will have eight of the OWGR top 10 golfers in the field and 17 of the top 20, making it the first real top event of the season.

This week’s event, the Farmers Insurance Open, has a particularly poor field relative to its history on the PGA Tour, due in part to some top names not being ready to begin their season and others choosing to withdraw after it became clear the tour would come back to Torrey Pines in two weeks for the Genesis Invitational. Hideki Matsuyama and Ludvig Åberg are the only two top 10 players in the tournament, which concludes Saturday.

Exciting news for golf fans as three top players, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Jordan Spieth, are set to make their PGA Tour season debuts at the prestigious Pebble Beach Golf Links. The iconic course will provide the perfect backdrop for these talented golfers to showcase their skills and compete against the best in the world.

Scheffler, coming off a breakout season with two PGA Tour wins and a Ryder Cup appearance, will look to continue his impressive form at Pebble Beach. McIlroy, a four-time major champion and former world number one, will be aiming to kick off his season with a strong performance. And Spieth, a three-time major winner and former FedEx Cup champion, will be looking to add another title to his impressive resume.

With Pebble Beach’s stunning coastal views and challenging layout, fans can expect some exciting golf action as these three stars battle it out on one of the most iconic courses in the world. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness these talented players in action as they tee it up at Pebble Beach for the start of the PGA Tour season.

  • CBS debuts a formulaic medical mystery

David Shore created one of the most successful medical procedurals ever back in 2004 by reimagining Sherlock Holmes as Gregory House, a brilliant, cantankerous doctor diagnosing mysterious illnesses with the help of a small team of young MDs. CBS’s Watson blatantly rips off House, making the connection to the works of Arthur Conan Doyle explicit in order to weave in a larger mystery but otherwise delivering an extremely formulaic throwback lacking the biting wit that made House great.

Created by Craig Sweeny, who also worked as a writer on CBS’s earlier Sherlock Holmes procedural Elementary, Watson follows the consulting detective’s partner Dr. John Watson (Morris Chestnut) after the events of Reichenbach Falls, where Holmes and his nemesis Professor James Moriarty seemingly plunged to their deaths. In his will, Holmes leaves Watson the funds to create his own clinic in Pittsburgh (presumably both London and Pennsylvania were too expensive as the show is actually filmed in Vancouver), where he can study a new odd case every week.

The pilot is an absolute mess, laying out the Holmes mythology and then clumsily rushing the introductions of the entire supporting cast and the show’s formula. The dialogue and story beats are all absurdly predictable, too. Watson’s morally ambiguous fixer Shinwell Johnson (Ritchie Coster), a minor Holmes character who was also given a larger part in Elementary, reverently mentions that Holmes was the only person who could pull off saying “Eureka!” before adding that maybe there was one other person. (Of course, that’s exactly what Watson says when he cracks the episode’s case.) Then, in Watson’s first of many scenes arguing with medical director Mary Morstan (Rochelle Aytes), he asks if her problem is with him professionally or as his ex-wife. And when trying to console an anxious patient, Watson basically gives her his whole backstory.

Chestnut does a solid job with the material he’s given, portraying a character usually relegated to a sidekick as much more like Holmes himself, perpetually confident in his own abilities even as he self-medicates for the traumatic brain injury he sustained while trying to save the famed detective. He’s smug but treats everything as a learning opportunity for his team, giving them reason to seek to impress him and keeping his criticisms relatively benign.

Watson has assembled his crew for their specialist skills and experiences as experimental subjects in their own right, including Stephens and Adam Croft (Peter Mark Kendall), identical twins who had a falling out because they dated the same woman, and immunologist Sasha Lubbock (Inga Schlingmann), who was born in China and raised in an affluent suburb of Texas that gifted her a comically thick drawl. The most questionable addition is Watson’s personal neurologist Ingrid Derian (Eve Harlow), who he suspects is a sociopath. She seems to agree with the diagnosis given that she has the page for antisocial personality disorder bookmarked in her copy of the Diagnostic And Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders. This is not a subtle show.

The characters get just a touch of development each episode, following relatively broad strokes like Stephens being the glasses-wearing workaholic twin jealous of his more easygoing and charming brother. Sasha is the fairly generic nice one, leaving her vulnerable to both being strung along by her boyfriend and manipulated by Ingrid. The episodes are similarly predictable, with cold opens revealing some sort of crisis Watson’s team will have to solve while spewing a prodigious amount of medical jargon. (Each hour typically culminates with an escalation of a condition that requires emergency surgery.) There’s also a touch of classic detective work like tracking down relatives to discover genetic histories or investigating homes for clues about what’s really going on in order to solve the mystery right in the nick of time.

Very little about Watson is revealed in the first five episodes of the series that were made available to critics, beyond that he went to work with Holmes while struggling to reintegrate after returning from war. There are some intriguing hints about who the doctor really is, and while the reveal the show seems to be building towards still isn’t original, it could be a fun twist on a character that’s been reinvented so many times already.

Ironically, Watson shows the most potential when it gets further away from mystery and highlights character-driven stories about seeking humanity in the practice of medicine. Episode four breaks from the formula by having the initial patient die on the operating table, dedicating the rest of the time to Sasha trying to track down the family of her medical-school cadaver who had similar symptoms. Having each character share their memories of the corpses they worked on provides an unusual link to bring them together even as it cements the different ways they view medicine and patients.

Episode five is the show’s strongest, shaking things up by focusing on someone with chronic illness (in this case, sickle cell anemia) and spurring an ethical debate about allowing people to suffer when treatment is available but financially out of reach. The show has some decent humor, too, courtesy of a sketchy biohacker friend of Watson. But it’s unlikely that Watson will achieve the success of House. That said, if it takes some more risks as the season goes on, it could at least provide some engaging comfort TV.

Watson premieres January 26 on CBS

CBS has just premiered a new medical drama that follows a tried-and-true formula: a brilliant but troubled doctor solves complex medical cases while navigating personal and professional challenges. The show, titled “Diagnosis,” stars a charismatic lead actor as Dr. Ryan Stone, a maverick physician with a troubled past who is not afraid to bend the rules to get results.

While some critics have criticized the show for being formulaic and predictable, others have praised its engaging storylines and strong performances. The show’s creators have promised that each episode will feature a new medical mystery that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats, while also delving into the personal lives of the doctors and nurses at the hospital.

Whether you’re a fan of medical dramas or just looking for a new show to binge-watch, “Diagnosis” promises to deliver a mix of drama, suspense, and heartwarming moments. Tune in to CBS on Thursday nights to see if Dr. Stone can crack the latest medical mystery and save the day.

¡Hala Madrid! #JacoboRamón #RealMadrid #Debut #Futbol #HalaMadrid

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors

Ryan Seacrest just shocked fans with an unexpected transformation that proves the most subtle changes can make the biggest difference.

In a clip promoting the 23rd season of American Idol shared to Instagram on Wednesday January 8, Seacrest debuted a drastically different look that caught viewers by surprise.

This new look was a far cry from the polished image fans are used to seeing on shows like Wheel of Fortune, where Seacrest, 50, sticks to his dapper, clean-cut persona.

Other folks revealed that they would no longer be watching the longtime singing competition since Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood will be serving as a judge this season, replacing Katy Perry. Underwood has recently come under fire for her alleged support of President Donald Trump after she agreed to perform at his inauguration on Monday, January 20.

“This show is to me thanks to @carrieunderwood,” said one. Another seemingly agreed, commenting, Y’all don’t have some kind of contract that prevents Carrie from doing…. this? Won’t be watching anymore in this house.”

In a statement, Underwood revealed that she loves the country, and is honored for the opportunity. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future,” she said to TMZ after the news was announced on Monday, January 13.

Venus Williams has not officially retired from tennis and has expressed a desire to continue playing on her own terms. Recently, she took to her Instagram Story to share updates about her return to the court. In the post, she was seen performing stretching exercises in a lavender outfit and appeared to hit a few balls as part of her training.

In an earlier interview with The Irish News, the 44-year-old hinted at a potential return to tennis. In 2024, she competed in only two events—Indian Wells and the Miami Open—exiting in the first round of both. While she has not played since Williams has not ruled out making a comeback.

“I’m not done with the racket yet… At this point, it’s about picking and choosing places I want to be. Last year I really wanted to play in Miami – home – because I hadn’t played there in like five years,” Venus Williams said.
