Suns 110-100 Nuggets (Dec 25, 2024) Game Recap

PHOENIX — — Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal each scored 27 points and the Phoenix Suns beat the Denver Nuggets 110-100 on Wednesday night in the nightcap to the NBA’s Christmas slate of games.

The Nuggets blew out Phoenix 117-90 on Monday night in Denver, but the Suns put up much more of a fight despite playing without Devin Booker (groin) and Grayson Allen (concussion protocol).

Phoenix led by seven after three quarters and stretched it to 99-81 by the midpoint of the fourth quarter. The Suns pushed the lead to 15 and held off the Nuggets down the stretch to end a three-game losing streak.

Nikola Jokic had 25 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Nuggets. Michael Porter Jr. added 22 and Russell Westbrook had 17.

Jamal Murray had 13 points, six rebounds and six assists after missing the game Monday game with a sprained ankle.

The Suns led by nine early after making six of their first seven 3-pointers, but the teams traded shots the rest of a hot-shooting first half.

    Takeaways

Nuggets: Denver got back Murray, but couldn’t match the intensity of Monday’s blowout. Jokic scored seven points after halftime and the Nuggets shot 8 of 29 from 3-point range.

Suns: Phoenix might have been missing two of its best shooters, but still 11 of 36 from 3-point range. Monte Morris gave the Suns a nice lift off the bench with 11 points and three assists.

    Key moment

The Suns took advantage of Jokic resting late in the third quarter and early in the fourth, stretching the lead to 12 before he returned.

    Key stat

The Suns are at their best when they get out in transition and outscored the Nuggets 15-6 on the break.

    Up next

On Friday, the Nuggets host Cleveland, and the Suns host Dallas.

    AP NBA: https://apnews.com/NBA

The Phoenix Suns secured a big win over the Denver Nuggets with a final score of 110-100 on Christmas Day. The Suns came out strong in the first half, establishing a lead early on and maintaining it throughout the game.

Devin Booker led the charge for the Suns with an impressive performance, scoring 30 points and dishing out 8 assists. Deandre Ayton also had a strong game, contributing 20 points and 12 rebounds. The Suns’ defense was solid, holding the Nuggets to just 100 points and forcing several key turnovers.

On the other side, the Nuggets struggled to find their rhythm offensively. Nikola Jokic had a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Suns’ dominant performance.

Overall, it was a great win for the Suns as they continue to climb in the standings. The team looks to carry this momentum into their next game and continue their winning streak. Stay tuned for more updates on the Phoenix Suns’ season.

  • Cavaliers 126-99 76ers (Dec 21, 2024) Game Recap

    Cavaliers 126-99 76ers (Dec 21, 2024) Game Recap

CLEVELAND — — Darius Garland scored 26 points and Evan Mobley had 22 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists, sending the NBA-leading Cleveland Cavaliers to a 126-99 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night.

Donovan Mitchell had 19 points and Georges Niang added 13 points off the bench for Cleveland, which is 25-4 for the top record in the league.

The Cavaliers tied their season high with 22 3-pointers — Garland made 6 of 7 — and improved to an NBA-best 16-1 at home.

Tyrese Maxey scored 13 of his 27 points in the third quarter and Paul George had 11 points for Philadelphia. Kelly Oubre Jr. had nine points, but the 76ers were outscored by 34 in his 27 minutes.

Philadelphia center Joel Embiid, who has a sinus fracture and knee soreness, did not play the second game of a back-to-back set. The former MVP scored 34 points Friday in a win over Charlotte.

    Takeaways

76ers: Coach Nick Nurse felt comfortable with his rotation until rookie shooting guard Jared McCain underwent knee surgery Tuesday. “When you lose McCain, all those plans go right out the window,” Nurse said.

Cavaliers: After a scoreless first quarter, Mobley erupted for 12 points in the second and 10 in the third by imposing his will in the paint. The fourth-year pro is averaging a career-high 18.4 points and 9.0 rebounds.

    Key moment

Mobley drove down the lane for a thunderous slam over KJ Martin and Andre Drummond — causing the crowd and the Cavaliers’ bench to erupt — as part of a 9-0 run to open the second half.

    Key stat

The Cavaliers made 22 3-pointers in 43 attempts, marking the first time in franchise history they have made 19 or more in three consecutive games. Cleveland leads the NBA with a .405 3-point percentage.

    Up next

The 76ers host San Antonio on Monday. The Cavaliers host Utah on Monday.

    AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/NBA

The Cleveland Cavaliers dominated the Philadelphia 76ers with a final score of 126-99 on December 21, 2024. The Cavaliers came out strong from the start and never looked back, showcasing a high-powered offense and stifling defense.

Cleveland was led by their star players, with forward Jayson Tatum putting up an impressive performance with 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Point guard Darius Garland also had a standout game, contributing 25 points and 12 assists.

The Cavaliers’ bench also played a crucial role in the victory, with players like Kevin Porter Jr. and Evan Mobley providing valuable minutes and making key plays on both ends of the court.

On the other side, the 76ers struggled to find their rhythm throughout the game. Despite a solid performance from Joel Embiid, who finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds, Philadelphia could not keep up with the Cavaliers’ offensive firepower.

Overall, it was a dominant performance by the Cavaliers, who improved their record to 20-6 for the season. The 76ers will need to regroup and make adjustments before their next matchup to bounce back from this tough loss.

  • WWE SmackDown results, live blog (Dec. 27, 2024): Nick Aldis addresses Kevin Owens

WWE SmackDown results, live blog (Dec. 27, 2024): Nick Aldis addresses Kevin Owens

WWE Friday Night SmackDown comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (Dec. 27, 2024) with a live show emanating from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, featuring all the continued fallout from the Saturday Night’s Main Event show that took place a couple weekends ago in Long Island.

Advertised for tonight: General Manager Nick Aldis will address Kevin Owens’ attack on WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, including his theft of the winged eagle championship title, presumably.

Also set for the show is Chelsea Green holding a celebration for the women’s United States championship, Bianca Belair & Naomi & Bayley taking on Nia Jax & Tiffany Stratton & Candice LeRae, and a whole lot more!

Come right back here at 8 pm ET when the SmackDown live blog kicks off once the show starts on USA Network. It will be below this line here. (Note: Links to illegal streams are prohibited. Pics and GIFs are allowed.)

WWE SMACKDOWN RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR DEC. 27

Some say the view is crazy, but you may adopt another point of view. So if it’s much too hazy, you can leave my friend and me with fond “adieu” while I liveblog this here pro wrestling show for these folks.

The show opens with a recap of the WWE Undisputed Championship title scene over the last month and change.

Nick Aldis cuts a promo talking about how Kevin Owens is in possession of the Winged Eagle title belt and that means a lot to a lot of people and was presented to Cody Rhodes as a gesture of trust in our WWE Undisputed Championship, and so the ultimatum is as follows: Kevin Owens has until the end of the night to relinquish the belt or suffer immediate and severe consequences.

Bianca Belair and Naomi are interviewed in Gorilla.

Naomi talks about how much holding a title means even though she came to it through unfortunate circumstances and Bianca Belair says they’re not forgetting about what happened to Jade Cargill and they’re gonna figure out who did it. Naomi introduces her “unofficial” tag team partner Bayley and Bayley asks Bianca if they’re good and it’s thumbs up all around.

Nia Jax gets on the mic during her entrance and asks Bianca how many times she has to say she didn’t touch Jade and none of them did. Tiffany couldn’t even help them win the tag titles, do you think she could orchestrate an attack? And they seem to be doing just fine without Cargill, taking zero time to replace her.

So Jax thinks she’s just trying to avoid suspicion on herself. Jade is bigger, stronger, and better than Belair and she couldn’t stand it, so she snapped. And Nia gets it, she’d do the same thing! So let’s stop pointing fingers and admit to it, or she’ll make her own up to it.

Bayley, Bianca Belair, & Naomi vs. Candice LeRae, Nia Jax, & Tiffany Stratton

Belair and Stratton to start, feeling out, Tiffany bails to the floor, triplicate dives from the babyface team wipe the heels out and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Jax with a headbutt nearfall on Naomi, taking her into the corner, quick tags and working her over, Belair comes in and the tide turns on LeRae, double-teams ahoy, handspring moonsault connects, cover for two! Stratton trying to keep her from the tag with a handful of braid, tag to Bayley, LeRae in, roll-through knee, Saito suplex connects!

Action to the floor, corner dropkick caught and Candice puts her face-first into the ringpost! Mounted punches, clubbing blows, bouncing her face off the apron and we go to break!

Back from commercial, tags made, Naomi hot in on Tiffany, corkscrew elbows and a roundhouse kick off the second rope! Slide under, mule kick, corkscrew bulldog, cover for two! Naomi takes Nia down, split-legged moonsault… TIFFANY BREAKS IT UP! Plancha follows it up, referee Dan Engler counting, Jax is down and Stratton goes for her Money in the Bank briefcase!

Candice grabs the case to stop her from cashing in, they argue about it, LeRae tags in, Naomi with a full nelson…

Bayley, Bianca Belair, & Naomi win by pinfall with a full nelson bomb from Naomi on Candice LeRae.

Austin Theory and Grayson Waller are backstage and Waller bills Nick Aldis for what Braun Strowman did to him, but Aldis says if he has a problem with Braun, he should take it up with Braun and anyway he’s waiting for somebody.

Sami Zayn comes in and the goofballs clear out, and we cut away as they start to talk.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Zayn and Aldis are still chatting.

He thinks it’s only fair if he gets a crack at the Bloodline and Carmelo Hayes rolls up to hand out Christmas cards to the boss, Sami tells him off, he tries to offer a card and Zayn tells him to wait his turn and balls up the card and tosses it at him. Hayes tells him to stay off his business and stay off his show and Sami says the Bloodline can wait, he wants Melo tonight.

Nick makes the match and Melo talks tough as he melts away.

    Austin Theory vs. Braun Strowman

Theory tries taking it to Strowman, he gets bieled huge and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Theory gets a reverse STO, chop block, big forearm, cover for one and Austin crashes to the floor off the kickout! Grayson Waller runs interference and gets his hand stomped for his trouble and Braun heads to the floor to capitalize! Waller runs away, Strowman scoops Theory up and throws him back inside!

Waller returns and gets shoved down, Austin gets under the monster but can’t capitalize! Braun picks him up again…

Braun Strowman wins by pinfall with the running powerslam.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get a Twitter promo from Kevin Owens where he respectfully disagrees with Nick Aldis and claims he’s the rightful WWE Champion and he’s not giving the title up without a conversation. But a one-on-one conversation, no security, no cronies, just the two of them.

Piper Niven is in the ring decorated for Chelsea Green’s WWE United States Championship celebration and she is completely gorgeous in a green wrap dress and white fur stole and charming lil two-tone t-strap pumps.

Chelsea makes her entrance, stunning in a very different way dressed as the Statue of Liberty in a one-shoulder seafoam number and commensurate tiara.

She gets on the mic and spells out the word “glamorous” and says that represents this very moment, the most glamorous, richest, tannest, longest-reigning first-ever WWE Women’s United States Champion. She wants to give recognition to the woman that’s been by her side the entire time, and that woman is her.

It’s her honor to bring pride and sexiness to this reign, because let’s be honest, without her you’d be stuck with one of those she-trolls in the back. And to her trash-loving opponent Michin, good riddance. She’d say that she can be a champion too but she’s Canadian and Canadians don’t lie.

She challenges us to ask not what Chelsea Green can do for us, but what we can do for Chelsea Green. (Yes ma’am, at your service) And 2025 is the year of red, white, and green!

    Enter “Michin” Mia Yim.

She says if it weren’t for Chelsea’s goofy friend Piper she’d be champion and so she’s gonna take a page out of her book and introduce her little friend and give her the ass-whooping she deserves. (Her little friend is a kendo stick.)

Niven rushes out to meet her and gets laid out with the kendo stick, she attacks Chelsea in the ring and the champion ducks but trips on her platforms and Piper has to pull her out of the ring!

#DIY are walking backstage when they run into Nick Aldis and Street Profits. Aldis says he’s only gonna ask once— do they have anything to say about the Profits getting attacked? They say it’s a shame and he says there were actually two eyewitnesses to the attack, and he brings Pretty Deadly out.

They make a big show of having trouble remembering and say maybe they can remember if they get funding for their musical, to which Aldis says they’ll have all the time in the world for their musical if they’re unemployed, and they cough up Angel Garza as the assailant.

This leads the Profits to walk around the way and attack Legado del Fantasma! Nick breaks the brawl up and says he’s not dealing with this tonight and orders them to take it to the ring immediately!

And so we go to break.

Los Garza (Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo) vs. Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford)

Knicks 117-114 Spurs (Dec 25, 2024) Game Recap

NEW YORK — — Mikal Bridges scored a season-high 41 points, and the New York Knicks overcame 42 from Victor Wembanyama in a monster Christmas debut to edge the San Antonio Spurs 117-114 on Wednesday.

Wembanyama set a Spurs’ record for points on the holiday and added 18 rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots. The reigning Western Conference player of the week made six 3-pointers.

But Bridges shot 17 for 25 from the field, 6 for 9 behind the arc, to make sure the Knicks had just enough offense to win their fifth in a row and improve to 20-10.

Karl-Anthony Towns added 21 points and nine rebounds, and Jalen Brunson scored 20 points. Josh Hart finished with 12 points, 12 boards and six assists.

Jeremy Sochan had 21 points and nine rebounds for the Spurs.

    Takeaways

Spurs: San Antonio had a chance to pull out a terrific win but gave up 17 offensive rebounds and was unable to get its hands on the ball at the end, with Hart grabbing two misses in the final half-minute to run out the clock.

Knicks: Bridges is often needed more for his defense than offense in his first season with the Knicks, but he reminded people on Wednesday just how good he can be with the ball in his hands.

    Key moment

The Spurs were within one point with two minutes to go after two free throws by Chris Paul before Bridges made consecutive jumpers for a five-point lead with 1:18 to play.

    Key stat

Wembanyama broke the Spurs’ record for points on Christmas. LaMarcus Aldridge had 33 in 2016.

    Up next

Williamson was a force in the paint, finishing with a double-double of 32 points and 12 rebounds. Barrett added 28 points of his own, including some clutch shots down the stretch.

The Spurs were led by Dejounte Murray, who had a team-high 26 points and 10 assists. Keldon Johnson also had a strong performance with 24 points and 8 rebounds. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome the Knicks’ offensive firepower.

The game came down to the wire, with the Knicks making key defensive stops and free throws in the final minutes to secure the victory. The win improves the Knicks’ record to 21-9, while the Spurs fall to 16-15 on the season.

Overall, it was an exciting and entertaining game that showcased the talent and competitiveness of both teams. Knicks fans can celebrate a well-earned victory on Christmas Day, while Spurs fans will have to regroup and look to bounce back in their next game.
