India Women emerged victorious in a thrilling encounter against West Indies Women in the 3rd ODI of the ICC Championship Match on December 27, as part of the West Indies Women tour of India in 2024.

In a high-stakes match, India Women put on a clinical performance with both bat and ball to secure a convincing win. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, India Women got off to a solid start with openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma laying a strong foundation. Mandhana’s brilliant knock of 86 and Verma’s quickfire 45 set the tone for the innings.

Middle-order contributions from captain Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur ensured that India Women posted a competitive total of 275/5 in their allotted 50 overs. In response, West Indies Women struggled to get going against a disciplined Indian bowling attack. Poonam Yadav and Jhulan Goswami wreaked havoc, picking up crucial wickets to restrict the visitors to 220/8 in their 50 overs.

India Women’s comprehensive victory in the 3rd ODI helped them strengthen their position in the ICC Championship standings and showcased their dominance in the series against West Indies Women. With this win, India Women continue to build momentum and showcase their prowess on the international stage.

    Best Movies, TV (Dec. 25–29)

Clockwise from top: A Complete Unknown, Your Friend, Nate Bargatze, Babygirl, and Nosferatu.
Photo-Illustration: Vulture; Photos: Searchlight Pictures, Everett Collection(Aidan Monaghan/Focus Features, Niko Tavernise/A24), Netflix

Merry Christmas, or, as the internet is calling the holiday, “A Complete Babyratu” day, or justBabyratu,” orA Complete Unosferatu.” Thanks to “Barbenheimer,” every anticipated movie pairing must have a ship name (see also “Glicked“). But what people should be worrying about is how to navigate which movies to see with whom. You can probably bring your whole family to A Complete Unknown, but not Babygirl. Take the 20-something cousins obsessed with Harris Dickinson to that. While Nosferatu is best for your introverted horror-loving siblings. Or you all can just go to the movies to sing along to “Defying Gravity.” (That’s allowed now. Kind of.)

Hot off a masterful press tour, the Timothée Chalamet–starring Bob Dylan biopic is headlining movie theaters. From director James Mangold, A Complete Unknown tackles the beginnings of the musician’s rise in the early ’60s through to Dylan’s controversial use of electric instruments at the Newport Folk Festival. The strong supporting cast includes Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, and Elle Fanning as Dylan’s girlfriend, Sylvie Russo.

Nicole Kidman is the titular babygirl. In filmmaker Halina Reijn’s followup to 2022’s Bodies Bodies Bodies, Kidman stars as corporate CEO Romy, who engages in an erotic tryst with an intern, Samuel (a charming Harris Dickinson), which poses potential problems for her job, family, and marriage to theater director Jacob (Antonio Banderas). It’s definitely not the best film on this list to watch with your family this holiday season, but it’s well worth the sneaky solo trip to the movies.

2024, the year of Nicole Kidman.

Director Robert Eggers and Nosferatu is as natural a pairing as peanut butter and jelly. The gothic filmmaker assembled a fantastic cast with Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter, a woman plagued by a desire for the deviously dark vampire at the center of the film (Count Orlok played by Bill Skarsgård). Nicholas Hoult co-stars as Ellen’s husband, along with Willem Dafoe as Professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz (a character heavily based on Dracula’s Abraham Van Helsing).

Willem Dafoe on his third collaboration with Robert Eggers.

Netflix finally got the rights to two NFL games, and it landed some marquee match-ups. Nearly all the biggest teams in the AFC are here, with the two hottest franchises in the North, the Steelers and Ravens, facing off, respectively, against reigning Super Bowl champs Chiefs and the South’s division leader Texans. This could be a preview for the playoffs — an explanation that surely everyone in your family will understand when you dip out of Christmas festivities early to start streaming. —Tolly Wright, Ravens fan

How did Santa Netflix know exactly what we wanted? Beyoncé’s heading home to Houston for the holidays to perform at the Texans-versus-Ravens halftime show. Will this cement “Texas Hold ’Em” as a nonconventional Christmas song? Yeehaw. —T.W.

Christmas is crowded with edgy new releases this year, but those searching for something to take the family to should check out Rachel Morrison’s directorial debut, written by Barry Jenkins, which turns the story of boxer Claressa “T-Rex” Shields into a rousing sports drama that departs from the genre’s usual rhythms. —Alison Willmore

Doctor Who is no stranger to Christmas specials. In this latest one, Ncuti Gatwa and Nicola Coughlan star as the Fifteenth Doctor and a woman named Joy, respectively, who finds a secret doorway that lands her in the Time Hotel. There she and the Doctor battle villains and dinosaurs, but it’s all to save Christmas.

Okay, technically Wicked has not even left theaters yet, but Universal is adding sing-along screenings of the musical complete with lyrics onscreen! So, while past screenings have encouraged fans to quietly hold space during Wicked, you can now go to these designated screenings and attempt the “Defying Gravity” riff yourself (though remember that’s Cynthia Erivo’s line). Just make sure you’re actually in the right theater before you start belting.

This is the comedy special to turn on over the holiday if you’re looking for something for your dad, your uncles, or your older millennial brothers, or if you’re with conservative family and need something that, somehow, everyone will miraculously agree on. That is Bargatze’s superpower. —Kathryn VanArendonk

Vulture critic Jen Chaney on why Shrinking doesn’t work without Harrison Ford:

    Photo: Vulture; Photo: Jen Chaney

The entire second season is on Apple TV+, so you can check out all of Ford’s antics in Shrinking now if you’ve been slacking on it. And read more of Jen Chaney’s performance review here.

➼ A big finale day for Apple TV+, the second season of Bad Sisters is also fully ready to binge.

Disney wasted no time in getting Nightbitch onto streaming. In fact, I’m not even sure it had a proper theatrical release since it barely premiered in limited theaters on December 6. That means you probably didn’t have a chance to watch Amy Adams navigate motherhood in this surreal comedy directed by Marielle Heller. As the title, sort of, suggests, Adams plays a mother who begins morphing into a dog.

Streaming on Hulu on December 27

➼ Party with Kyle Mooney’s disaster comedy Y2K ahead of the new year as it hits digital streaming platforms this Friday.

NBA Best Bets Today, Predictions, Picks: Thursday, December 26

    By Joe Dellera

Mark Williams has been solid for the Hornets since he returned, and now he gets a relatively soft matchup against the Washington Wizards.

Williams has steadily seen his minutes increase as of late, and has scored double digits in four of his last five games.

When Williams plays at least 15 minutes, he has cleared this line in 22 of his last 30 games.

Additionally, when the Hornets played the Wizards a week ago, he dropped 16 points in just 19 minutes.

The Wizards play at the fourth-fastest Pace in the league and allow their opponents to shoot 66.8% at the rim, the highest mark in the league in that department.

Couple that with the fact that centers are absolutely roasting Washington this season, and this is a great spot to back Williams.

Pick: Mark Williams Over 9.5 Points (-125)

    By Michael Fiddle

This is one of the first times this season I have looked to back the Pelicans.

Their role players are getting healthier, as they’ve returned Dejounte Murray, CJ McCollum and Trey Murphy to hold up the offense.

On the other end, the Rockets have finally seen a significant upgrade to their power ranking, now listed as an 8-point favorite on the road.

While I backed the Rockets at numbers between 0 and 5 regularly, a road favorite -8.5 is a spot this Rockets team has rarely found itself in, and is likely worth fading in the betting market.

    Pick: Pelicans +8.5 (-120)

    By Bryan Fonseca

LaMelo Ball has gone over this in two of three outings since returning from injury, with the lone miss ringing in at 13 exactly, and he recently just cleared this line against this same Wizards team.

Additionally, he has gone over 13.5 rebounds + assists in six of his last seven games.

Lastly, we have a bunch of injury questions in Washington. Kyle Kuzma and Marvin Bagley have already been ruled out. Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington and Bilal Coulibaly are all questionable.

Pick: LaMelo Ball Over 13.5 Rebounds + Assists (-115)

    By Vince Akins

The Thunder missed out on the Christmas Day slate, despite leading the West in the regular season last year and being the dominant team in the West this season.

Look for this young, hungry team to come out of the holiday with a little extra edge today.

Oklahoma City has done well with a couple days off, like they’ve had entering tonight’s contest. The Thunder are 8-0 ATS since February 22 with 2+ days rest in non-neutral site games, when favored by less than 10 points.

The Thunder surprisingly lost both meetings against Indy last season, which should have them locked in here. Road favorites of 5+ points facing a team they lost to in their previous meeting is almost always a play for me. I’ll lay the points with OKC.

    Pick: Thunder -5.5 (-110)

    By Nick Parsons

Just a great situational play here in my opinion. Detroit went into the Christmas break on fire by winning three of its last four games, including back-to-back road upsets at the Suns and Lakers.

With a game at Denver to conclude this trip, I say that this mini-holiday break could not have come at a worse time for this team that was slowly starting to show small signs of chemistry and cohesion.

However, the break could not have come at a better time for a now desperate Sacramento team, which lost its fourth straight to the Pacers by a score of 122-95 on December 22.

The Kings have now lost five straight against the spread. But note, looking back, they are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 after playing to five or more straight ATS losses in a row.

Look for the Kings to go all-out to, not only win this game, but to do so in blowout fashion. Lay the points with Sacramento.

    Pick: Kings -6 (-110)

5 best new movies to stream this week — ‘Gladiator 2,’ ‘Borderlands’ and more (Dec. 24-30)

The festive week is one of the quietest of the year for new streaming releases. In fact, none of the major streaming services are offering new movies this week (though Netflix is debuting “Squid Game” season 2 for TV binge-watching). However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any fresh flicks for you to watch from the comfort of your home over the holidays.

The headline new addition this week is “Gladiator 2” on premium video-on-demand. The swords-and-sandals sequel was more than 20 years in the making and while it’s unlikely to leave the same cultural impact as its predecessor, it’s still a historical epic that packs plenty of action spectacle and character-driven melodrama. Other newcomers to PVOD include “Y2K” and “The Order”.

Looking for some new movies to stream this week? Look no further! Here are the 5 best new movies to add to your watchlist:

    1. Gladiator 2 – The long-awaited sequel to the epic film Gladiator is finally here. Follow the story of Maximus’ son as he seeks revenge for his father’s death.

    2. Borderlands – Based on the popular video game series, Borderlands follows a group of unlikely heroes as they navigate the dangerous world of Pandora in search of a legendary alien vault.

    3. The Lost City – Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum star in this action-packed adventure film about a romance novelist who gets caught up in a real-life treasure hunt.

    4. The Unforgivable – Sandra Bullock delivers a powerful performance in this drama about a woman released from prison after serving time for a violent crime, as she tries to rebuild her life and reconnect with her estranged sister.

    5. The Matrix Resurrections – The fourth installment in The Matrix series, this film follows Neo as he navigates a new reality and faces off against new enemies.

Don’t miss out on these exciting new releases – grab some popcorn and start streaming today!
