Today’s daily horoscopes: Dec. 29, 2024

Typically, a thing you have no control over is not your problem. If it bothers you, the problem is that you are bothered, not the thing itself. The solution, therefore, will be an understanding and/or reckoning inside your own mind. With significant cosmic squares breaking up today, letting go of ideas will liberate your energy, thus freeing new possible realities.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). Your quiet determination guides the course while appearing effortless. By envisioning the harmony you want, you naturally navigate toward it, proving intention’s silent power.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). To truly embody compassion is to extend it equally — to others and to yourself. When you withhold it from one, the flow falters for all. For now, forget about a targeted beam of kindness; radiate love in all directions.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). Critical thinking can only take you so far. It’s easy to get caught in overanalysis. Instead of examining every angle until you’re exhausted, pick the one that resonates most and follow through with it. Your instincts are spot on.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). It is said that “to forgive is divine” and it is also said, “just no.” So, if forgiveness is too much today, consider a lesser kind of letting go — like taking time to process your feelings, or avoiding the issue until you feel like handling it.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). When you’re attuned to the energy and dynamics around you, your path becomes clearer and your choices more strategic. Reading the room isn’t just awareness — it’s power. Unspoken rules and hidden opportunities will be revealed.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). The rush to the end of the year can be stressful. Go to that heavenly place in your own mind for relief and relaxation. If you don’t have a place like that, this is the ideal time to create one.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). If it feels like you’re getting knocked about, jostled and rubbed by the haphazardness of today, consider yourself as a raw gem that life is polishing. Friction brings out the shine.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). Games will teach you how another person’s mind works. Do they play by the rules, or are they willing to bend them? Are they quick thinkers, or do they prefer a more cautious approach? Today, such observations will help you better understand a relationship.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). When your goal is specific and attractive enough to you, you’ll drop the distractions that compete for your focus, not willfully but without a second thought, as though nothing else in the world exists outside of your beautiful goal.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). There are so many ways to be you. You’ll seek the intersection of productivity, contribution and fun — emphasis on the fun. You’ll experiment with your personal environment and change up your style as a way to turn up the joy.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Share food and you’ll share more — conversation, love, care. The time, thought and effort it takes to prepare a meal or connect over a dining experience will nourish more than the body.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). They are not thinking what you’re thinking. This is why you should share and compare notes. Once you do, you’re likely to be delighted at how original you are, and you’ll appreciate how their unique takes complement your own.

TODAY’S BIRTHDAY (Dec. 29). Fates favor you as you double down on your passion. Big plans get bigger, small problems fall off the schedule, and your large-scale dreams materialize in a thrilling, if methodical, build. More highlights: Deep affections, mutually enriching. You’ll establish charitable habits and enjoy the bounty of your life, knowing others are well taken care of. Virgo and Cancer adore you. Your lucky numbers are: 6, 13, 50, 1 and 15.

CELEBRITY PROFILES: Actor and activist Ted Danson reunites with “The Good Place” creator Mike Schur for the Netflix comedy series “A Man on the Inside,” inspired by the Oscar-nominated documentary “The Mole Agent.” The comedy king has played the fallen angel, the coach, the devilish lady’s man and, notably, a version of himself on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Capricorn sun brings confidence, swagger and precise timing. The show business savvy and instinct to entertain comes via his natal moon and Saturn in Leo.

Holiday Mathis’ debut novel, “How To Fail Epically in Hollywood,” is out now! This fast-paced romp about achieving Hollywood stardom is available as a paperback and e-book. Visit creatorspublishing.com for more information. Write Holiday Mathis at HolidayMathis.com.

Aries (March 21-April 19): Today, you may find yourself feeling a bit restless and in need of a change. Embrace this feeling and consider making some small adjustments in your daily routine to shake things up.

Taurus (April 20-May 20): It’s a good day to focus on your finances and set some goals for the upcoming year. Take some time to review your budget and make any necessary adjustments to ensure you are on track to reach your financial goals.

Gemini (May 21-June 20): Today, you may feel a strong urge to connect with others and share your thoughts and ideas. Take advantage of this social energy and reach out to friends or colleagues for some stimulating conversation.

Cancer (June 21-July 22): You may find yourself feeling a bit scattered today, Cancer. Take some time to prioritize your tasks and focus on one thing at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Leo (July 23-August 22): Today, you may feel a surge of creativity and inspiration. Use this energy to work on a passion project or pursue a creative endeavor that brings you joy.

Virgo (August 23-September 22): It’s a good day to focus on your health and well-being, Virgo. Consider starting a new exercise routine or incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet to boost your energy levels.

Libra (September 23-October 22): Today, you may find yourself feeling a bit nostalgic and reflective. Take some time to look back on the year and celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how big or small.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21): It’s a good day to focus on your relationships, Scorpio. Take some time to connect with loved ones and strengthen your bonds through open and honest communication.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21): Today, you may feel a strong desire for adventure and new experiences. Embrace this energy and consider planning a spontaneous trip or trying something new and exciting.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19): You may find yourself feeling a bit overwhelmed with responsibilities today, Capricorn. Take a step back and prioritize your tasks to ensure you are able to tackle them one at a time.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18): Today, you may feel a strong urge to express yourself creatively. Embrace this energy and let your imagination run wild as you explore new ways to express yourself.

Pisces (February 19-March 20): It’s a good day to focus on self-care and relaxation, Pisces. Take some time to unwind and recharge your batteries to ensure you are able to face the week ahead with renewed energy and vitality.

Madison County restaurant inspection scores for Dec. 14-20: Long fingernails & drinks don’t mix

During the week of Dec. 14-20, the Madison County Health Department conducted restaurant inspections and uncovered some concerning findings. One of the most notable violations was the presence of long fingernails on food handlers, which can pose a serious health risk to customers.

According to health department officials, long fingernails can easily harbor bacteria and other harmful pathogens, which can then be transferred to food and drinks during preparation. This can lead to foodborne illnesses and other health issues for patrons.

In addition to the issue of long fingernails, inspectors also found that some restaurants were not properly storing and handling drinks, which can also contribute to the spread of contaminants and bacteria.

As a result of these violations, several restaurants received poor inspection scores and were required to take corrective action to address the issues. Health department officials are reminding restaurant owners and employees to adhere to proper hygiene practices and food safety protocols to ensure the health and safety of their customers.

Customers are encouraged to check restaurant inspection scores before dining out to ensure that the establishments they visit are maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety. Stay tuned for more updates on restaurant inspection scores in Madison County.

NBA Best Bets Today, Predictions, Picks — Saturday, Dec. 28

The NBA regular season continues with another solid slate this Saturday, with a total of 9 matchups on the docket scheduled for today. So, our staff of basketball experts dug into the latest odds and identified all the best betting value on the board for tonight’s contests.

Our betting experts have looked over the odds and made 4 NBA picks for today’s matchups. Continue below for our NBA best bets and predictions for Saturday, December 28.

NBA Best Bets Today, Predictions, Picks: Saturday, December 28

By Bryan Fonseca

Jalen Johnson has recorded a double double in seven of his last eight games, and the Heat allow the fourth-most rebounds per 100 possessions.

Johnson’s only miss during that stretch was a game where he had nine boards.

There’s juice here at -170, but I’m okay with taking it given Johnson’s form leading into today, given the recent string of performances plus the matchup tilt in his favor.

Pick: Jalen Johnson Double Double (-170)

By Andrew Norton

Jordan Poole has been on a massive heater recently, hitting 46% of his 3-point tries over his past four outings. And that number has come on a substantial volume too, as he has shot just shy of 13 three-pointers per game in that four-game stretch.

Now, Poole and the Wizards host the Knicks today, who should be a tough matchup on paper, but have underwhelmed overall on the defensive end of the floor so far during their 2024-25 campaign.

In fact, New York has allowed opponents to shoot at the fourth-highest percentage from deep on the road (38.6%) this season.

Poole will draw a lot of attention from the Knicks’ defense, but I expect that Washington’s neck-breaking pace could allow him to get open for some clean looks in transition.

Pick: Jordan Poole 4+ Three-Pointers (+100)

By Joe Dellera

Nikola Jokic had some interesting postgame comments yesterday talking about the Nuggets’ rocky start saying he needs to do more to help his teammates rather than what they need to do to help him.

I think that’s notable and somewhat inferring what else he can do, which is score more and dime more often.

Jokic has crushed on back-to-back sets this year. On no rest, he’s averaging 34 points, 9.6 assists, and 12.6 rebounds.

This matchup is a bit tougher on the glass against Detroit, but he certainly can still score and dish.

He has recorded over 36.5 points + assists in 77% of games this season, and while Detroit has done a decent job of limiting opposing centers this year, none of them are Jokic.

Pick: Nikola Jokic Over 36.5 Points + Assists (-113)

By Bruce Marshall

The Sixers haven’t had an easy time on the road this season, and there’s no reason to believe this will be a cakewalk tonight in Salt Lake City.

Although they are just 7-22 SU, Utah has put forth several decent efforts lately, and has actually won two of its last four games. And of those last four, they were all wins against the spread (and on the road, no less!).

Their recent efforts include hang-in-there outings against the Cavs, Suns, and Lakers, with a healthy Lauri Markkanen (25 PPG, last four games) in especially good form lately.

The Sixers are coming off a rousing Christmas Day win in Boston, but there’s some questions tonight about the availability of Joel Embiid (left foot sprain and sinus fracture), and Philly has posted losses in the past two weeks against some underwhelming opponents such as the Pacers, Hornets, and Spurs.

I’ll take the points with Utah.

Pick: Jazz +7 (-115)

Are you ready for some NBA action? Today, on Saturday, Dec. 28, there are some exciting matchups on the schedule that present some great betting opportunities. Here are our best bets, predictions, and picks for today’s games:

1. Los Angeles Lakers vs. Portland Trail Blazers
The Lakers are on a hot streak and are currently sitting at the top of the Western Conference standings. They will be facing a tough Trail Blazers team that is fighting for a playoff spot. We predict the Lakers will come out on top in this game.

Pick: Los Angeles Lakers -5.5

2. Houston Rockets vs. Brooklyn Nets
The Rockets have been playing well lately and have one of the best offenses in the league. The Nets, on the other hand, have struggled with injuries and inconsistency. We expect the Rockets to win this game comfortably.

Pick: Houston Rockets -8.5

3. Milwaukee Bucks vs. Orlando Magic
The Bucks have been dominant this season, with Giannis Antetokounmpo leading the charge. The Magic have been playing well recently, but we don’t think they have enough to take down the Bucks.

Pick: Milwaukee Bucks -9.5

4. Boston Celtics vs. Toronto Raptors
This is a matchup between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics have been playing great basketball, but the Raptors are tough at home. This game could go either way, but we’re leaning towards the Raptors in a close one.

Pick: Toronto Raptors +2.5

Remember to always do your own research and bet responsibly. Good luck with your picks!

Clippers 102-92 Warriors (Dec 27, 2024) Game Recap

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — — Norman Powell scored 24 points and the Los Angeles Clippers held on to beat the slumping Golden State Warriors for the third time this season, 102-92 on Friday night.

James Harden added 18 points and seven assists and Ivica Zubac had 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Jonathan Kuminga scored a career-high 34 points off the bench to lead the Warriors, who were without Stephen Curry (knee) and Draymond Green (back).

The Clippers are still waiting for Kawhi Leonard to make his season debut. Kevin Porter Jr. sat out because of illness.

Things got chippy in the fourth when the Warriors cut a 19-point deficit to three points.

Harden fouled Brandin Podziemski, who fell hard to the court. Soon after, Podziemski fouled Amir Coffey when they collided near the Warriors bench. Tempers flared on both sides and Harden and Lindy Waters III were assessed technical fouls. Fans then booed Podziemski whenever he touched the ball.

Takeaways

Warriors: They fell to 3-12 in their last 15 games after their third loss in a row. They’re 4-2 without Curry in the lineup and 1-1 without Curry and Green.

Clippers: They’ve also been struggling, going 4-4 in their last eight games.

Key moment

After a close first half in which neither team led by more than six points, the Clippers dominated the third. Their first three baskets were dunks, including two by Derrick Jones Jr., who later had a one-handed jam. They also went on a 3-point binge, rattling off four in a row by different players for a 79-60 lead.

Key stat

The Warriors shot 37% from the floor, but they outrebounded the Clippers, 47-39, including 19 on the offensive glass.

Up next

The Warriors host Phoenix on Saturday in the second game of a back-to-back and the opener of a six-game homestand. The Clippers visit New Orleans on Monday night to begin a three-game trip.

The Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Golden State Warriors 102-92 in a thrilling matchup on December 27, 2024.

The Clippers came out strong in the first quarter, establishing an early lead and never looking back. Their defense was suffocating, holding the Warriors to just 92 points for the game.

Leading the way for the Clippers was star forward Paul George, who finished with 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. He was a force on both ends of the court, making key plays and hitting clutch shots when his team needed them most.

The Warriors were led by Stephen Curry, who put up 25 points and 7 assists. Despite his best efforts, the Warriors were unable to overcome the stifling defense of the Clippers.

Overall, it was a hard-fought game between two talented teams, but the Clippers ultimately came out on top. With this win, they improve their record and continue to establish themselves as a contender in the Western Conference. Stay tuned for more exciting matchups as the season progresses!

Knicks 108-85 Magic (Dec 27, 2024) Game Recap

ORLANDO, Fla. — — Jalen Brunson had 26 points and nine assists, Josh Hart added 23 points and 13 rebounds and the New York Knicks extended their winning streak to six games with a 108-85 win over the Orlando Magic on Friday night.

Karl-Anthony Towns had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Knicks, who pulled away in the second half. Mikal Bridges, coming off a season-best 41-point game in a win over San Antonio on Christmas Day, added 17 points.

Jalen Suggs, limited to 26 minutes due to foul trouble, scored 27 points. Goga Bitadze had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Orlando, which dropped its second straight and lost for the fifth time in seven games.

Takeaways

Knicks: Winning their sixth straight overall and sixth straight road game — including two in Orlando — the Knicks relied on defense and a 44-32 rebound advantage.

Magic: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope moved to a forward spot and Wendell Carter Jr., came off the bench in the Magic’s latest attempt to compensate for injuries to Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. But, they shot 36.8% and lost for the fourth time in six home games after winning their first 10.

Key moment

With 6:23 left in the third quarter, Suggs fouled Brunson on a lane runner, which Brunson converted into a three-point play that tied the game 63. Suggs had to sit with five fouls, and by the time he re-entered the game in the fourth quarter, the Knicks led 87-70.

Key stat

The Knicks made only 4 of 15 3-pointers, but made up for it with 54% shooting and a 24-for-34 effort from the line. Orlando hit 11 of 12 from the line.

Up next

The Knicks are at Washington on Saturday, while the Magic host the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday.

——

AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/NBA

From the tip-off, the Knicks showcased their offensive firepower, with star players like Julius Randle and RJ Barrett leading the charge. Randle put up an impressive double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds, while Barrett added 20 points of his own.

The Knicks’ defense was also on point, holding the Magic to just 85 points for the game. They were able to force turnovers and limit Orlando’s scoring opportunities, ultimately leading to their decisive victory.

Overall, it was a great team effort from the Knicks, as they played with energy and intensity on both ends of the court. This win improves their record and solidifies their position as a contender in the Eastern Conference.

The Knicks will look to carry this momentum into their next game as they continue their quest for a playoff spot. Stay tuned for more exciting action from this talented team.
