  • Red Sox deemed ‘most likely’ fit for ex-Astros $100 million superstar by insider

The Houston Astros could soon lose one of their longest-tenured stars to an up-and-coming rival.

After a sensational nine-year tenure in Houston, Alex Bregman hit free agency hoping to cash in on a contract worth at least $200 million. The Astros tried to broker a reunion early in the offseason, but quickly pivoted to trading for Isaac Paredes to play Bregman’s old third base position and signing Christian Walker across the diamond at first base.

Earlier this week, Astros manager Joe Espada said that the “door is still open” for Bregman to return to Houston, as conversations have continued between the two sides even after Houston added Paredes and Walker.

However, one Major League Baseball insider sees one of the Astros’ American League foes as the favorite to poach the two-time Houston All-Star.

On Wednesday, insider Jon Heyman said during an appearance on MLB Network that he believes the Red Sox are the “most likely” destination for Bregman this winter.

“Right now, I’m hearing there are five teams in it,” Heyman said. “(The Red Sox) have not been a team that have really signed that big free-agent contract. To me, I think they’re the most likely, as we sit here at this moment, to sign Alex Bregman.”

In Boston, Bregman would project as the starting second baseman because of the presence of three-time All-Star Rafael Devers at third base. There have been rumors about Boston moving Devers to first base, necessitating a trade of first baseman Triston Casas or designated hitter Masataka Yoshida, but second base is a more obvious current opening.

With Devers, Trevor Story, Bregman, and Casas from left to right, Boston could suddenly have one of the most well-rounded infields in MLB if everyone stays healthy.

That’s a threat the Astros don’t want to contend with in the AL if they don’t have to. But if signing Bregman comes down to need and financial flexibility, Boston makes more sense than Houston does at this point.

More MLB: Mets trade idea would land projected $450 million superstar for two top prospects

According to insider sources, the Boston Red Sox are being considered the “most likely” fit for former Houston Astros superstar, who is reportedly seeking a $100 million contract in free agency.

The Red Sox have been known to make big splashes in free agency in the past and have the financial resources to make a deal of this magnitude. The addition of a player of this caliber could greatly improve their lineup and make them serious contenders in the upcoming season.

While nothing is set in stone yet, it will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds and if the Red Sox are able to land this coveted player. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Noah Fant Injury: Deemed limited Monday due to knee

Seattle estimated Fant (knee) as a limited practice participant Monday, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.

The Seahawks didn’t actually practice Monday, so Fant’s status was an estimation of his level of participation had a practice been held. The veteran tight end dealt with a knee injury last week as well, so he’s likely still working through the same issue. Fant was able to suit up Sunday versus Minnesota and logged 75 percent of Seattle’s offensive snaps, and unless he’s had a setback it’s likely that he’ll be able to take the field this Thursday against Chicago.

Denver Broncos tight end Noah Fant was deemed limited in Monday’s practice due to a knee injury. Fant, who has been a key weapon for the Broncos offense this season, will be closely monitored as the week progresses to determine his availability for Sunday’s game.

Fant has been dealing with various injuries throughout the season, but has managed to play through most of them. However, his knee injury appears to be more serious, as it is limiting his participation in practice.

Fant’s absence would be a significant blow to the Broncos offense, as he has been a reliable target for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Fantasy football owners should keep a close eye on Fant’s status leading up to Sunday’s game, as his availability could impact their lineups.

Stay tuned for updates on Fant’s injury status as more information becomes available.
