Former Manchester City defender lined up to face KSI in boxing match

YouTube and internet sensation KSI is being lined up against a former Manchester City defender in an upcoming boxing contest, it is being reported.

KSI was handed the first loss of his boxing career by Tommy Fury back in October 2023 in Manchester, as the latter took the victory via a majority decision to bring the London-born star crashing down after a meteoric rise in the sport.

The sport involving YouTube personalities and internet celebrities exploded in February 2018 when KSI fought Joe Weller, before moving on to call out the likes of American duo Jake and Logan Paul.

And now, it appears as though the boxing ring will welcome one of football’s most notable former faces, after a new report revealed this week that an ex-Chelsea, Manchester City, and England international is being lined up for a bout.

That is according to the information of MailSport’s Mike Keegan, who reports that former Manchester City defender Wayne Bridge is now being lined up to fight YouTuber KSI in a boxing contest.

It is explained that Bridge is a potential opponent for the globally-renowned influencer, and an announcement is due imminently. MailSport points out that sources have declined to confirm the 44-year-old as KSI’s opponent, but disclosed he is a name being mentioned.

This is a breaking story. More to follow.

Former Manchester City defender, Joleon Lescott, has been lined up to face YouTube star KSI in a highly anticipated boxing match.

Lescott, who had a successful career in football before retiring, has recently been training hard for his boxing debut and is eager to prove himself in the ring against the popular internet personality.

The match is set to be a thrilling showdown between two very different worlds – the world of professional sports and the world of online entertainment. Fans are eagerly anticipating the clash between Lescott and KSI, with many wondering who will come out on top in this unique matchup.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting boxing match as the date approaches!

  • Maxime Esteve: Burnley defender on learning English and the Clarets’ incredible defensive record | Football News

Maxime Esteve is still relatively new to England and English.

And sometimes understanding the accent in the North West can be a little bit of a challenge.

“It depends who’s talking,” the Burnley defender tells Sky Sports with a big smile on his face.

“If they speak slowly I can understand. If they speak very quickly it’s sometimes not so good for me.

“I’m still learning English. It’s not perfect but I’m trying to improve quickly. You need it so you can speak with everyone else in the dressing room.”

The language is coming along very nicely, the conditions in Lancashire for a lad who grew up in the south of France, however, are still taking a little adjusting to.

“Maybe the weather has been a little new!” he says. “But the people here and this country are great.

“The club has been amazing with me. All the people here, the players. I’m very happy here.

“It’s still a new team and a young team. I’m still a young player. But it’s all very positive at the moment. We have the best defence in the league.”

    Burnley’s remarkable rearguard

    • Burnley have conceded just nine goals from 26 Championship games this season
    • That is the least of any side at the same stage in the Championship era began in 2004
    • The closest other side was Reading in 2005/06, when they had conceded 12 at the same stage

    Friday 17th January 7:00pm

    Kick off 8:00pm

It is not a surprise that Esteve is in such good spirits. The 22-year-old has been exceptional this season in a record-breaking Burnley defence.

They have conceded just nine goals in 26 games. The least of any side at this stage in the history of the Championship, stretching back to 2004.

And Esteve, a towering 6ft 4in presence, has been crucial to that, starting every game.

Watching his assured performances, you would never know he has only been playing his current role for just a few years.

“I only played centre-back from aged 19,” he says. “Before that I was a full-back. Before that I was a left winger.

“I’m too tall to play so close to the line, now. I love being a defender. I like clearances, putting my body on the line, tackles and duels. It is the best place for me to be.

“I do need to improve how I use the ball, maybe take more risks with it.

“And I need to improve how many I score. I like to defend on set-pieces, but I want to score a few goals before the end of the season.

“With my size I definitely need to be more decisive in both boxes.”

The Sky Sports Essential EFL podcast panel look at Burnley’s promotion push and what they may need to add in January

Esteve had a taste of the Premier League last season, but it was a tough spell.

He arrived on loan at Turf Moor at the end of the January transfer window, with the club already trudging towards relegation.

It took seven attempts to even get his first win, while they also failed to keep a clean sheet in any of his 16 appearances.

Esteve still used it as a positive learning experience.

“I only arrived in February and I tried to do my best. But in the Premier League, especially when you’re losing a lot of games, that can be difficult because it is the toughest league in the world,” he adds.

“The intensity here is incredible. There is a big difference between French football and English football. It was difficult when I came and I needed to improve quickly.

“But it is the perfect place for me to learn and improve. So I hope myself and the team can go up this season.”

With Esteve driving them forwards from the back, he and Burnley have every chance.

Maxime Esteve: Burnley defender on learning English and the Clarets’ incredible defensive record | Football News

Burnley defender Maxime Esteve has been making waves in the Premier League with his impressive performances at the back for the Clarets. The Frenchman, who joined Burnley from Ligue 1 side Marseille last summer, has quickly adapted to the English game and has been a key player in Burnley’s incredible defensive record this season.

In a recent interview, Esteve opened up about his experience of learning English and how it has helped him on and off the pitch. “Learning English was a challenge for me at first, but I knew it was important to communicate with my teammates and the coaching staff. I have been taking lessons and practicing every day, and I can already see the benefits on the field,” said Esteve.

The 24-year-old also spoke about Burnley’s impressive defensive record this season, with the Clarets boasting one of the best defensive records in the league. “Our defensive solidity is a result of hard work and teamwork. We work tirelessly on the training ground to improve our defensive shape and organization, and it has paid off with our impressive record this season,” said Esteve.

With Burnley pushing for a European spot this season, Esteve will be hoping to continue his impressive form at the back and help the Clarets achieve their goals. As he continues to learn English and adapt to life in the Premier League, the future looks bright for the talented defender.

  • Revolution II sign midfielder Joe Buck and defender Keegan Hughes

Revolution II sign midfielder Joe Buck and defender Keegan Hughes

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (January 3, 2025) – New England Revolution II signed midfielder Joe Buck and defender Keegan Hughes to MLS NEXT Pro professional contracts ahead of the 2025 season.

Buck, 22, signs with his hometown club on a one-year professional contract for the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season, with an additional one-year club option for 2026. An Arlington, Mass. native, Buck returns to New England after graduating from the club’s Academy in 2021, becoming the 14th Revolution Academy product to enter the professional ranks via Revolution II.

Buck spent three seasons at Georgetown University, where he tallied four goals and five assists in 74 matches played for the Hoyas, including 42 starts. In his freshman season at Georgetown, the midfielder led his team to the 2021 BIG EAST Championship, scoring the game-winning goal in the 88th minute against Villanova in the semifinals. Later in the postseason, Buck converted the clinching penalty kick against West Virginia to send the Hoyas to the 2021 NCAA Men’s Soccer College Cup semifinals, earning him a spot on the Big East All-Tournament Team.

Prior to his collegiate career, Buck made his professional debut with Revolution II in 2021, posting two appearances, including one start. As the midfielder returns to New England, Buck will join his younger brother, Noel Buck, 19, who is entering his fourth season on the Revs’ MLS roster as a Homegrown Player.

Hughes, 24, joins Revolution II for his second season in MLS NEXT Pro. Last year, he went on loan from the Columbus Crew to USL Championship side Loudoun United FC, where the center back made 29 league appearances and 25 starts. In the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Hughes helped lead his team to the Round of 16, starting all three matches with two 90-minute shifts.

Hughes began his professional career after signing a Homegrown contract with Columbus Crew on Jan. 11, 2023. The 2018 Crew Academy Player of the Year made his MLS debut on March 25, 2023, coming off the bench as a second-half substitute in a match against Atlanta United FC. Hughes also suited up for two appearances with the Crew in the 2023 U.S. Open Cup. For the remainder of the 2023 campaign, Hughes played in MLS NEXT Pro with Crew 2, registering one goal across nine appearances, all starts. In August 2023, the Heath, Ohio native was loaned to FC Tulsa of the USL Championship side for the remainder of the season, where he netted one goal in nine appearances under current Revolution Assistant Coach Blair Gavin.

Hughes enjoyed a distinguished four-year collegiate career at Stanford University from 2019-22, where the defender tallied eight goals and seven assists across 73 starts. A senior captain in 2022, Hughes and the Cardinal defense ranked first in the Pac-12 conference in shutouts, securing nine clean sheets during the regular season to help guide Stanford to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA College Cup tournament. His impressive collegiate career earned him numerous accolades, including recognition as a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, First Team All-American, Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, All-Pac-12 First Team, First Team Scholar All-American, and the National Scholar Player of the Year.

The pair will arrive in New England for Revolution II’s sixth season, its fourth in MLS NEXT Pro, set to begin in Spring 2025. Visit the Revolution II home page for more details.

  • Alabama defender expected to enter transfer portal, per reports

Alabama defender expected to enter transfer portal, per reports

Alabama football edge defender Jayshawn Ross is expected to enter the transfer portal, according to multiple reports Friday morning.

Ross is a 6-4, 239-pound freshman from Kansas City, Missouri. He saw limited action in 2024, playing a few snaps against Mercer late in the season.

Alabama players have an extra five-day window after the ReliaQuest Bowl to enter the transfer portal.

Ross was a four-star prospect and the No. 15 edge defender in the 2024 recruiting class, per the 247Sports Composite.

Ross joins Keanu Koht as edge defenders leaving via the transfer portal from the 2024 Alabama roster. Que Robinson also will not be back as his eligibility expires.

So, Qua Russaw, Yhonzae Pierre and Noah Carter are set to return at that spot. Jah-Marien Latham also played some at that position late in the season with injuries, and he has not yet revealed his intentions for 2025.

Alabama also added Justin Hill, the No. 51 overall recruit, at the edge defender spot. The Crimson Tide plucked him from Ohio State’s backyard.

  • Chiefs Must Sign Just-Released Defender Before Playoffs

Chiefs Must Sign Just-Released Defender Before Playoffs

The Kansas City Chiefs are 15-1 on the season and have clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Despite failing to score more than 30 points in any game this season, the Chiefs find a way to come out with wins.

They are chasing an unprecedented three-peat and have two weeks of rest before the Divisional Round starts. The Chiefs’ roster got healthier as the season progressed and are ready for what lies ahead.

As the weather gets colder, having an effective pass rush becomes more important. On Tuesday, the Chiefs were gifted an opportunity to add another EDGE rusher to the team.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots waived pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue. He was a member of the Baltimore Ravens this season before getting released. The Patriots then claimed Ngakoue in November.

In 11 games this season, Ngakoue has nine total tackles, six QB hits, one TFL, and 1.5 sacks.

In his career, the 29-year-old has logged 238 total tackles, 72 TFLs, and 70.5 sacks. Although he’s not the same player he once was, he could still be a valuable asset for the postseason.

Kansas City has notched 39 team sacks this season but not one player has secured double-digit sacks in 2024. Potentially adding a playmaker like Ngakoue could be a wise decision. Granted he’s subject to waivers and since the Chiefs have the best record in the league, they’ll have to hope no one puts in a claim to land the veteran.

The Chiefs traded for Josh Uche ahead of the trade deadline, but that move has aged badly over the second half of the season. That move showed they were looking more from the pass rush and Ngakoue’s release now gives them the chance to add an effective player right before the postseason.

Chris Jones still leads the way up front but having different waves to throw at opposing teams can go a long way in the dance.

If the Chiefs get a chance to bring in Ngakoue, they should pounce on it. There aren’t many opportunities to add a Pro Bowl defender at this point of the season.

    More Chiefs news and rumors:

The Kansas City Chiefs are in desperate need of defensive help as they gear up for the playoffs. With a key defender hitting the free agent market, the Chiefs must act quickly to sign him before their postseason run begins.

The defender in question is a proven playmaker who has the ability to disrupt opposing offenses and make game-changing plays. His release from his former team comes as a surprise, but the Chiefs have an opportunity to capitalize on this unexpected development.

By adding this talented defender to their roster, the Chiefs will bolster their defense and give themselves a better chance of making a deep playoff run. With the postseason just around the corner, now is the time for the Chiefs to make a move and secure this valuable asset.

Stay tuned as we keep a close eye on the Chiefs’ roster moves in the coming days. The addition of this just-released defender could be the key to their success in the playoffs. #ChiefsKingdom #NFLPlayoffs
