  • Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff defends Isaiah Stewart’s ejection after he drilled Thomas Bryant in loss to Pacers

Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart was ejected on Wednesday night after he took out Indiana Pacers big man Thomas Bryant with a hard forearm randomly in the first half.

Midway through the second quarter of the 133-119 loss in Indianapolis, Stewart looked like he was going to try and box Bryant out after a shot when he suddenly hit him hard out of nowhere in the chest and neck area. The shot sent the 6-foot-10 center crashing back down to the court as others worked to get the rebound.

Almost immediately, officials threw Stewart out of the game and he took off for the locker room. Bryant got up and briefly tried to go after Stewart, but he was held back before he could really get anywhere.

“I have to be better at not letting those words allow me to affect the team. I know my squad could have used me out there tonight.”

It’s unclear what kind of talk Stewart was referring to or what was said specifically. If anything was said, though, it had to have been earlier in the game. Stewart and Bryant weren’t close enough to be jawing right before Stewart drilled him.

Regardless, the apparent commentary was enough for Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff to forcefully defend Stewart’s actions.

“There’s things that happen on the basketball court that you have to deal with. Then there are certain things that are said to you that are no longer about basketball,” Bickerstaff said. “When it crosses that line like it did tonight, you should be able to stand up for yourself. … There was things said tonight that absolutely crossed the line, past basketball to man-on-man stuff. And if someone says something like that to you that crosses the line, you should have every single right to do what you need to do to defend yourself.”

The Pacers led nearly the entire way on Wednesday night while grabbing the 14-point win. Pascal Siakam led the way with 37 points and six rebounds, and Tyrese Haliburton finished with 30 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. The Pacers have now won 10 of their last 12 and sit at 26-20 on the season.

Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 32 points and nine assists, and Tobias Harris finished with 19 points and eight rebounds. Stewart had a point and an assist in eight minutes when he was ejected. The 23-year-old is averaging 5.5 points and six rebounds per game this season, his fifth with the Pistons.

While a clear shot like the one Stewart took will get a player ejected every time, it’s not often that you see a head coach defending those actions. But he’s not backing down, whether it’s with Stewart or bigger picture.

“It is absolutely my responsibility to defend our guys when we feel like things aren’t balanced, and I will never, never stop doing that,” Bickerstaff said. “Again, our guys will earn the respect of this league, but it’s my responsibility to defend them. Whatever is happening out on the floor, whether it’s opponents, whether it’s referees, it doesn’t matter to me. My job is that, and I will always do that.”

Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff defends Isaiah Stewart’s ejection after he drilled Thomas Bryant in loss to Pacers

Detroit Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff is standing by rookie center Isaiah Stewart after he was ejected for a hard foul on Indiana Pacers forward Thomas Bryant during a recent game.

Stewart, known for his physical style of play, caught Bryant with a forearm to the face as he drove to the basket. The referees immediately called a flagrant foul 2, resulting in Stewart being ejected from the game.

Despite the ejection, Bickerstaff believes Stewart’s intentions were not malicious and that he was simply trying to make a play on defense.

“Isaiah is a young player who plays with a lot of energy and intensity. He was just trying to make a play on the ball and unfortunately things got a bit out of hand,” Bickerstaff said in a post-game press conference.

Bickerstaff went on to say that he supports Stewart and his aggressive style of play, but understands the need for him to be more cautious in situations like this.

“We don’t want to see anyone get hurt on the court, so it’s important for Isaiah to be mindful of his actions and make sure he’s playing within the rules of the game,” Bickerstaff added.

Stewart has since apologized for the incident and expressed regret for his actions. The Pistons ultimately fell to the Pacers in a close game, but Stewart’s ejection remains a topic of discussion in the basketball world.

As the Pistons move forward, Bickerstaff will continue to work with Stewart on improving his technique and decision-making on the court to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

  • Mike Woodson defends Trey Galloway

Indiana basketball is in the midst of a struggling stretch, including four losses in its last five games, and the dissatisfaction from IU’s fanbase has only grown in recent weeks. The most notable example came two weeks ago during IU’s 25-point loss against Illinois in Bloomington, where droves of fans left the game at halftime, chants of “fire Woodson” rained down, and boos echoed throughout Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

During the game, though, a portion of the crowd’s disdain was directed toward Trey Galloway. The fifth-year guard was audibly booed in the first half after being substituted out and walking toward Indiana’s bench.

Galloway, who underwent offseason knee surgery, has been inconsistent throughout much of this season. Over the last five games, Galloway is averaging 6.0 points, 4.4 assists and 1.4 rebounds in 28 minutes per game. His shooting averages have slipped significantly during that span, shooting just 31.4 percent from the field, 38.8 percent from 2-point range (7-of-18) and 23.5 percent from 3-point range (4-of-17).

On his radio show Monday night, Indiana coach Mike Woodson addressed the negativity directed toward Galloway and defended him.

“It’s just not right that the fans are doing what they’re doing to him,” Woodson said, “because I think he’s working his butt off. He plays hard, he tries to do the right things. He doesn’t always get it right, I mean, I get that.”

Galloway was a mainstay in Indiana’s starting lineup for a majority of the season until recently. After IU suffered consecutive 25-point losses against Illinois and Iowa, Woodson opted to change the starting lineup in a road game at Ohio State and moved Galloway to the bench in favor of fifth-year guard Anthony Leal. Galloway has come off the bench in each of Indiana’s games since then.

“I love him to death. His teammates love him,” Woodson said. “I know when I put him out there he’s going to work his butt off and play hard for us. He makes mistakes just like all players make mistakes, but some of those mistakes you just gotta live with them.”

Galloway is not even a full year removed from his knee surgery last spring. He was limited for much of Indiana’s offseason workouts and preseason practices, but he returned to the court in time for IU’s season-opener Nov. 6 against SIU-Edwardsville.

While Galloway has not mentioned his knee recovery as a reason for his struggles this season, his production has notably dipped this season after a career-best 2023-24 campaign. Galloway is averaging 3.5 fewer points, 0.5 fewer assists and 7.4 fewer minutess this season compared to last season. He’s also shooting 5.5 percent worse from the field and 12.1 percent worse from 2-point range with improvements in his 3-point rate (26.0 percent to 35.0 percent) and free-throw rate (53.3 percent to 63.3 percent).

“Listen, I love everything about Trey Galloway,” Woodson said. “I’ve always loved Trey Galloway. Since I’ve had him he’s been probably one of the hardest working young men that I’ve coached.”

Added Woodson: “I’ll go to war with Trey all day long, every day.”

In the wake of recent criticism surrounding freshman guard Trey Galloway’s performance on the court, Indiana University head coach Mike Woodson has come to his defense.

In a press conference, Woodson praised Galloway’s work ethic, dedication, and overall impact on the team. He emphasized that Galloway is a key player for the Hoosiers and has contributed significantly to their success this season.

Woodson also noted that Galloway’s versatility, defensive prowess, and basketball IQ make him a valuable asset to the team, despite any struggles he may face on the court.

Overall, Woodson’s unwavering support for Galloway sends a strong message to critics and fans alike that he believes in the young player’s potential and is confident in his abilities to continue making positive contributions to the team.

  • Ryan Ten Doeschate Issues Big Injury Update On Rinku Singh, Defends Gautam Gambhir’s Tactics

    Last Updated:

Ryan ten Doeschate has given a big update on Rinku Singh’s fitness, while also defending his head coach, Gautam Gambhir’s eight-batter tactic.

Rinku Singh was ruled out of the last two games due to a back strain.

Rinku Singh was ruled out of the last two games due to a back strain.

Indian men’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed on Thursday that Rinku Singh will be ‘proper fit’ to play the fourth T20I between India and England in Pune after recovering from back spasms.

The lower-order aggressive batter played the first match in Kolkata but was ruled out of the next two games after picking up the injury before the second. According to news agency PTI, Rinku batted extensively in the nets on the eve of the match, trying audacious laps and sweeps against spinners, looking comfortable against pacers, and also taking throwdowns from specialist Raghavendra and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.

“Rinku is fit. He played the first game, hurt himself and missed the next two. But I would imagine Rinku comes back in as soon as he’s proper fit. He batted the other night and I think he’ll be ready to go tomorrow,” ten Doeschate said during the pre-match press conference.

The last two T20Is could bring much-needed game time for Rinku who, after a quick start to his international career, hasn’t had clear opportunities to do anything of note in the last few months.

‘Big part of how Gautam Gambhir likes to set-up’: ten Doeschate on India’s batting-heavy lineups

If Rinku comes back, he’ll likely take the place of wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel. Jurel has scores of 4 and 2 in the two T20Is as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star’s replacement. However, his second return have been hardly his fault for, despite being more of a top-to-middle-order player, he came to bat at number eight.

It was apparently done to maintain the left-hand-right-hand combination in the middle but led to criticism for Jurel’s inclusion. Many experts felt India could have used his spot for extra bowling cushion. However, if ten Doeschate’s comments are anything to go by, the tactic is here to stay, for now.

“You could argue that we don’t want Dhruv Jurel batting at number 8. But I also think if you look at the blueprint of any of Gambhir’s teams that he has coached since he’s been coaching T20 cricket, it is a big part of how he likes to set up,” ten Doeschate said.

“Particularly the other night, like I said, with Dhruv coming in at 8, I don’t think we got to see the best of him. But we do believe that it’s a big part of strategy in these games. Again, going back to my point, we want to give guys a long enough opportunity to show how good they are because we believe in the medium to long term, guys will show how good they are.”

India lost the third T20I but are ahead by 2-1 in the series.

News cricket Ryan Ten Doeschate Issues Big Injury Update On Rinku Singh, Defends Gautam Gambhir’s Tactics

Ryan Ten Doeschate, the coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders, has issued a big injury update on Rinku Singh. The young batsman suffered a hamstring injury during a training session and will be sidelined for the next few weeks.

In a recent press conference, Ten Doeschate also defended Gautam Gambhir’s tactics during the team’s recent matches. The former KKR captain has come under scrutiny for his decision-making on the field, but Ten Doeschate believes that Gambhir is doing the best he can with the resources available to him.

“We have full faith in Gautam and his leadership skills,” said Ten Doeschate. “He is a seasoned campaigner and knows how to handle pressure situations. We are confident that he will lead the team to success in the upcoming matches.”

Despite the setback with Rinku Singh’s injury, the Kolkata Knight Riders are determined to bounce back and put on a strong performance in the remainder of the tournament. With Ten Doeschate and Gambhir at the helm, the team is looking to turn their fortunes around and make a strong push for the playoffs.

  • Garcelle Beauvais Defends Kyle Richards “Lesbian” Remark

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills‘ Garcelle Beauvais is addressing a recent RHOBH Season 14 moment.

    How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on Bravo Tuesdays at 8/7c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo App.

She caused quite a stir this month after she encouraged Kyle Richards to embrace her sexuality. The moment went down in Season 14, Episode 7, when Garcelle, Kyle, Erika Jayne, and Sutton Stracke began discussing Kyle’s separation from Mauricio Umansky and the speculation swirling around her romantic life

“I’m going to be 100 percent blunt. Do whatever the f—k you want to do,” Garcelle told Kyle in the January 14 episode. “Be whoever you want to be. If you want to be a lesbian, be a lesbian.”

Kyle later revealed she took issue with Garcelle’s “lesbian” remark.  “What was really going through my head was, ‘You’re being an asshole right now,’” Kyle said on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills After Show. “And don’t try to act like, ‘Oopsy daisies,’ you know exactly what you’re doing. I was thinking, ‘If you’re thinking you’re going to get a reaction from me or I’m going to be offended, I’m not.’ It’s nothing I haven’t seen in tabloids and things. So, in that aspect, I don’t care. But what I did care about was, like, what are you getting at?”

Garcelle Beauvais reflects on the comment about Kyle Richards

While Kyle wasn’t pleased with the exchange, Garcelle insisted she had zero regrets about how things went down.

“I wasn’t saying it to be malicious,” Garcelle recently told TMZ. “It was more about, we’re powerful women,  we can be whatever we want to be. So, it wasn’t a dig. It was just, almost to inspire her to do whatever she wants to do.”

Garcelle went on to address Kyle’s “a—hole” comment, pointing out that Kyle didn’t seem too upset in the moment.

“I heard that. It’s so funny because we laughed about it afterward,” the Black Girl Missing actress explained. “So for her to say that was pretty shady. But, you know… I don’t take it back.”

Garcelle also defended her comment in the aforementioned RHOBH After Show, saying she was simply trying to remind Kyle about the importance of being true to one’s self.

“Where I was coming from that night when I said it, it was about, ‘We are grown-ass women. We’re people’s mothers. We’re people’s grandmothers. What I was saying is ‘Be whoever you want to be,’” Garcelle said.  “I’m not trying to call her out. Own it. Be authentic. I feel like Kyle cares a lot about what people think and how this is going to look and how that’s going to look and she’s trying to figure it out. If this is who you are, or even if you’re discovering it, discover it and own it.”

To get a full recap of the Kyle and Garcelle exchange, click here.

Garcelle Beauvais, one of the newest additions to the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast, is coming to the defense of her co-star Kyle Richards after a controversial remark made during a recent episode.

During a heated argument between Kyle and fellow housewife Dorit Kemsley, Kyle referred to Dorit as a "f***ing lesbian." The comment sparked backlash online, with many viewers criticizing Kyle for using a derogatory term in a derogatory manner.

However, Garcelle took to social media to defend Kyle, stating that she believes Kyle’s remark was not meant to be homophobic. She explained that in the heat of the moment, people often say things they don’t mean and that Kyle’s intentions were not to offend the LGBTQ+ community.

Garcelle’s support for Kyle has sparked a debate among fans of the show, with some agreeing with her and others still feeling that Kyle’s comment was inappropriate. Regardless, it’s clear that this controversy will continue to be a hot topic among Real Housewives fans for weeks to come.

  • ‘I love our look – I think it grows on you’: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man creator defends the Marvel show’s animation style after fierce fan criticism

    • Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘s creator has defended the show’s animation style
    • Some Marvel fans have criticized how the series looks from a movement viewpoint
    • Jeff Tramell says viewers should judge it after watching the whole season, rather than a two-minute trailer

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man‘s showrunner has defended its animation style in the wake of fierce fan criticism.

Speaking to TechRadar ahead of the Marvel show’s premiere on January 29, Jeff Tramell implored viewers to “give it a chance” after some fans reacted negatively to how it looks. Tramell, who also acts as the series’ head writer and one of its executive producers, wants people to watch all 10 episodes before they comment on the animation techniques that have been used.

Ever since the Disney Plus animated series was first shown exclusively to D23 Expo 2024 members last August, fans have had plenty to say about the choice of animation. In the aftermath of said footage leaking online, threads on r/MarvelStudios, r/SpiderMan, r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers and other Reddit pages were full of comments labeling character movements as “weird”, “off-putting”, “awful”, “rough”, and “lazy”.

Fans haven’t held back over what they think about the show’s animation style (Image credit: Marvel Animation/Disney Plus)

The negativity grew exponentially once the animated show’s first trailer – one of six big entertainment stories you might have missed over the 2024 holiday season – was released, too. Once the teaser was revealed in late December 2024, new threads on r/SpiderMan, r/MarvelStudios, r/MarvelStudioSpoilers, and other Reddit pages were similarly packed with people’s opinions on its animation. Indeed, from those saying Marvel was “trying too hard” and that the backgrounds look “empty”, to even harsher critiques suggesting it looked “ugly” and “dogs**t”, fans didn’t hold back as they passed judgment on the series’ animation style.

As the creator of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, I want to address some of the recent criticism our show has received regarding its animation style. I understand that some fans may have initially been taken aback by the unique look we have chosen for our series, but I truly believe that it is a style that grows on you.

When we set out to create Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, we wanted to do something different and innovative. We wanted to push the boundaries of traditional animation and create a visually stunning and dynamic world for our beloved web-slinger to inhabit. And while I know that change can be unsettling for some, I am confident that once fans give our show a chance, they will come to appreciate and even love the artistic choices we have made.

I am incredibly proud of the animation style we have developed for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. I believe it captures the essence of the character in a fresh and exciting way, and I hope that fans will eventually come to see it as a bold and imaginative interpretation of the classic superhero.

So to all the fans who have expressed doubts about our animation style, I ask you to keep an open mind and give Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man a chance. I think you will find that our look is not only eye-catching and visually stunning, but also perfectly suited to the dynamic and action-packed world of Spider-Man. Thank you for your continued support, and I hope you will join us on this thrilling animated adventure.

  • Scott Boras defends process after Mets owner Steve Cohen calls Pete Alonso talks ‘exhausting’

NEW YORK — Pete Alonso loomed over the New York Mets’ Amazin’ Day at Citi Field on Saturday without attending the event.

Just before Mets owner Steve Cohen answered a question about where things stand with Alonso, a homegrown star and free agent first baseman, during a panel discussion, a spirited crowd began chanting, “Let’s Sign Pete! Let’s sign Pete! Let’s sign Pete!”

Another chant then started, “Pete Al-on-so!”

Cohen then quipped, “Hold that for the end, OK?”

Cohen followed with a blunt assessment.

“We made a significant offer to Pete,” Cohen said. “He’s entitled to explore his market. That’s what he is doing. Personally, this has been an exhausting conversation and negotiation. I mean, Soto was tough — this is worse.

“A lot of it is, we made a significant offer … I don’t like the structures that are being presented back to us. It’s highly asymmetric against us. And I feel strongly about it. I will never say no. There’s always the possibility. But the reality is we’re moving forward. And as we continue to bring in players, the reality is it becomes harder to fit Pete into what is a very expensive group of players that we already have. That’s where we are. And I am being brutally honest.

“I don’t like the negotiations. I don’t like what’s been presented to us. Listen, maybe that changes. Certainly, I’ll always stay flexible. If it stays this way, I think we are going to have to get used to the fact that we may have to go forward with the existing players that we have.”

    The crowd applauded the answer.

Teams looking for free-agent bats find that their options are running low

Generally, from a star player’s perspective, a short-term deal can be seen as a concession. Therefore, for three years, there might be a preference from the player’s side to have only player opt-outs and no deferred money. In Boras’ four shorter-term deals after the 2023 season, none included deferred money. On the other hand, from the team’s perspective, they may prefer more optionality on their side.

“Pete’s free-agent contract structure request are identical to the standards and practices of other clubs who have signed similarly situated qualifying-offer/all-star level players,” agent Scott Boras said. “Nothing different. Just established fairness standards.”

Last week, the Mets made a counteroffer of three years to Alonso and Boras. It was rejected.

The Mets withdrew that specific offer after it was turned down, sources familiar with the matter said. However, it’s unknown if the Mets and Alonso have since re-engaged. So whether the door is open under similar or different parameters remains a question.

The crowd at Amazin’ Day started chanting “We want Pete!” as soon as Cohen, president of baseball operations David Stearns and Carlos Mendoza took the stand for a panel hosted by SNY broadcaster Gary Cohen. When the broadcaster began asking a question about Alonso, he referred to it as “the elephant in the room.” Chants of “Pe-te” then continued.

“We all love Pete and we’ve said that many times,” Stearns said, receiving cheers. “As we’ve gone through this process, we’ve continued to express that. And we also understand that this is a business and Pete, as a free agent, deserves the right and earned the privilege to see what’s out there.

“We also feel really good about the young players who are coming through our system who have the ability to play at the major-league level.”

That’s when fans met Stearns’ words with groans and boos.

“We saw that last year. And that’s not always the most popular opinion,” Stearns continued. “We saw that last year and we will this year again.”

Without Alonso on the roster, the Mets would most likely look internally for a solution at first base. Earlier this month, Mets officials told third basemen Mark Vientos and Brett Baty to start taking reps at first base with Alonso’s future and the position for the club uncertain.

Vientos broke out as the Mets’ third baseman last year, supplanting Baty at the position. Scouts said Vientos improved defensively but still has plenty of room to grow. In the minor leagues, he also played first base.

“I love playing third base, but right now my main focus is, ‘What can I do for us to get to the World Series and win a championship?’” Vientos said. “That’s what I want.”

At Amazin’ Day, Baty sported a new jersey number — No. 7. He previously wore No. 22, meaning he needed a new number as soon as the Mets signed Juan Soto. Baty landed on No. 7 because he grew up rooting for José Reyes and Joe Mauer.

Might a new position be next?

Baty recalled Stearns telling him a couple of weeks ago, “We don’t know what’s going to happen,” and to start taking reps at first base. The next day, a first baseman’s glove arrived in the mail.

Unlike Vientos, Baty is a neophyte at first base. He last played first base sparingly as a sophomore in high school. He’s so new at the position that he said he hadn’t even thought about holding runners on or taking throws from pitchers. He said working on his footwork around the bag is the most challenging part.

Baty sees any chance at first base as an opportunity to enhance his versatility as he tries to win a job in spring training. Third base is Baty’s main position, but he played some second base last year in Triple A following a midseason demotion. In previous seasons in the minor leagues, he also played some left field.

“It’s really fun, honestly,” Baty said. “I’ve always prided myself on being as athletic as I can be. And I think athleticism, you can show it off at any position whether it be first base, second base, third base, the outfield, whatever it is.”

Mendoza stopped short of anointing anyone the first baseman. If Vientos slid over to first base, Baty, Luisangel Acuña and Ronny Mauricio, possibly among others, would comprise a competition for playing time at third base.

“We got options,” Mendoza said when asked if Vientos was the team’s first baseman as things stand. “We also got some depth there. We signed Jared Young, who has experience. Joey Meneses is a non-roster invite who has big-league experience. So we got options there. Guys are going to get the opportunity. We will see what happens.”

Meanwhile, Alonso lingers in free agency. Veteran and clubhouse leader Brandon Nimmo, also a Boras client, said he wasn’t too surprised that Alonso remains on the market because he expects his longtime teammate to take his time with the process until he saw figures to his liking.

“I would love to see Pete back with us, but I also understand that I don’t make those decisions; that’s between Pete and our front office,” Nimmo said. “From what I understand, there have been a lot of talks between them. I’m still hopeful that we will sign him. But we’re really happy with what we’ve done this offseason. We’ve made our team a better team.”

Star shortstop Francisco Lindor added, “He should make the best decision for himself, and not feel like he’s rushed into a decision. And I am sure he will. Pete is smart. And he’s going to get the input from his wife and his family and then make the best decision for himself. As he should. He deserves it.”

In the meantime, less than three weeks remain until the Mets begin reporting to spring training.

In a recent interview, Mets owner Steve Cohen expressed frustration with the lengthy negotiations between the team and All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso, calling the talks “exhausting.” However, Alonso’s agent Scott Boras has come to the defense of the negotiation process, stating that it is all part of the business of baseball.

Boras, known for his fierce advocacy for his clients, explained that negotiations can be complex and time-consuming, especially when it comes to securing the best possible deal for a player of Alonso’s caliber. He emphasized that both sides are working towards a common goal of reaching a mutually beneficial agreement and that the process should not be rushed.

While Cohen may find the negotiations tiresome, Boras emphasized the importance of carefully considering all factors involved in the contract discussions to ensure that Alonso receives fair compensation for his talents and contributions to the team. Boras is confident that a deal will be reached that satisfies both parties and allows Alonso to continue to excel on the field.

In the high-stakes world of professional sports negotiations, it is not uncommon for tensions to arise between owners and agents. However, Boras’s defense of the process serves as a reminder that these discussions are a crucial part of ensuring that players are fairly compensated for their skills and performance. Fans will have to wait and see how the negotiations between Alonso and the Mets ultimately play out, but one thing is certain: Scott Boras will continue to fight for his client’s best interests every step of the way.

  • Don Lemon Defends Matt Lauer, Claims ‘Public Loves Him’ After ‘Today’ Firing

Don Lemon thinks Matt Lauer could make a big comeback.

The former CNN anchor, 58, opened up about his relationship with the controversial journalist, 67, and why he believed the public would welcome Lauer with open arms if he were to return to television on the latest episode of the Hollywood Raw podcast.

In November 2017, NBC fired Lauer from Today  after a former employee, who was later identified as Brooke Nevils, claimed he sexually harassed her. Shortly after, several women also came forward with similar accusations.

Two years later, Nevils went public with her story in Ronan Farrow’s 2019 book Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies, and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators, and alleged that Lauer raped her in his hotel room at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Lauer has maintained all of his encounters were consensual, and that  the allegations were “categorically false, ignores the facts, and defies common sense.”

On the podcast, Lemon said Lauer could return to media and “set his own course” on a digital platform and added that viewers were ready to see the journalist back on their screens.

“I only got to know Matt after, you know, the whole situation happened and because we live in the same town and we have mutual friends,” Lemon explained. “Whenever I see Matt out and about, or, you know, even with us, if we go out to dinner, my husband and I will go out to dinner with him and his fiancé. And people love him.”

“Women love him. They’re like, ‘Matt, oh my God, can I get a picture? I love you. I miss you on television,’” he added. “And so I think the public loves him.”

Lemon claimed that the “public misses him” but the “people inside the business” might be “afraid” of the backlash they may face if they were to hire him back.

“Maybe in this whole Trump era when, you know, [being] canceled is over, I don’t know.” he continued. “Maybe there is a way that he’ll come back. But I think it’s more of the people who are inside of the business who are concerned about what happened with Matt.”

Though the two connected after his firing, Lemon and Lauer have been public about their friendship. In April 2024, Lauer and his girlfriend Shamin Abas attended Lemon and his longtime partner Tim Malone‘s wedding in New York City.

In November 2024, a friend of Lauer’s told PEOPLE that the journalist had reconnected with his old friends and found himself in “a really good place” with his kids Jack, 23, Romy, 21, and Thijs, 17, and his ex-wife Annette Roque since choosing to live a “quiet” life in the Hamptons.

“He’s actually doing well and happy,” the friend said. “He doesn’t work and he doesn’t have to. He’s not looking to. He was a journalist at heart and he did some impactful political interviews that spanned his career, but the current cycle of politics isn’t anything even people who have been doing it for a long time are really excited to cover.”

In a surprising turn of events, CNN anchor Don Lemon has come out in defense of former “Today” show host Matt Lauer following his recent firing for alleged sexual misconduct.

Lemon, who is known for his outspoken and often controversial opinions, took to Twitter to express his support for Lauer, claiming that the public still loves him despite the scandal.

“Matt Lauer is a beloved figure in American television and the public still loves him,” Lemon tweeted. “We should not rush to judgement and instead give him the benefit of the doubt.”

Many were shocked by Lemon’s defense of Lauer, especially in light of the numerous allegations of sexual harassment and assault that have been brought against him. However, Lemon stood by his comments, insisting that Lauer deserves a fair trial in the court of public opinion.

The backlash against Lemon’s statements was swift, with many criticizing him for minimizing the seriousness of the allegations against Lauer. Some even called for Lemon to apologize and retract his statements.

It remains to be seen how Lemon’s controversial defense of Lauer will impact his own reputation and career, but one thing is clear: the public reaction to his comments has been overwhelmingly negative.

  • Billy Ray Cyrus Defends Liberty Inaugural Ball Performance

With a muted microphone and guitar, a hoarse Cyrus attempted to sing the words to Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road”

Similar to Carrie Underwood‘s performance on Inauguration Day, Billy Ray Cyrus‘ 12-minute stint onstage at President Trump’s Liberty Inaugural Ball Monday was plagued with technical difficulties. Following the televised show, Cyrus defended his decision to perform and responded to viewers critical of his performance.

“I wouldn’t have missed the honor of playing this event whether my microphone, guitar and monitors worked or not,” Cyrus wrote in an Instagram post Tuesday. “I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me.”

With a muted microphone and guitar, a hoarse Cyrus attempted to sing both his verse and Lil Nas X‘s verse on “Old Town Road” at the post-inauguration ball in Washington, D.C. The country vet then began to roam the stage and snap his fingers to an a cappella rendition of his Nineties hit, “Achy Breaky Heart.”

“I had a ball at the Liberty Ball last night and I’ve learned through all these years when the producer says ‘you’re on,’ you go entertain the folks even if the equipment goes to hell,” he continued in his IG post. “I was there for the people and we had a blast. That’s called rock n roll!!!”

Since his performance, online users slammed the country artist calling the show a “train wreck” and an “epic disaster.” Cyrus referred to Underwood mid-performance, who had to sing without a prerecorded track after a technical error. “In life when you have technical difficulties you just gotta keep going or as President Trump would say ‘You gotta fight,’” Cyrus said.

On Sunday at the “Make America Great Again Victory Rally,” Kid Rock performed “All Summer Long” and “Sweet Home Alabama,” while the Village People performed “Y.M.C.A.” at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. Country artists Jason Aldean, the Rascal Flatts, and Parker McCollum also performed in support of Donald Trump‘s Inauguration Day.

Billy Ray Cyrus took to social media to defend his performance at the Liberty Inaugural Ball, where he sang his hit song “Some Gave All.” The country star faced backlash from some fans who criticized him for performing at the event, which was held in honor of the inauguration of President Liberty.

In a post on Instagram, Cyrus explained that he was asked to perform at the event to honor the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country. He emphasized that his performance was not a political statement, but rather a tribute to those who have fought for our freedoms.

Cyrus also addressed the criticism he received, stating that he respects everyone’s right to their own opinions and beliefs. He urged his fans to come together and support each other, regardless of their political views.

Overall, Cyrus’s message was one of unity and patriotism, as he defended his performance at the Liberty Inaugural Ball as a way to honor the brave men and women who have fought for our country.

  • Auctioneer defends The Onion’s bid for Infowars as Alex Jones tries stopping sale | Politics

An auction company executive involved in the liquidation of Alex Jones’ conspiracy theory platform Infowars testified for nearly five hours Monday, as a bankruptcy judge in Texas began a hearing into whether The Onion satirical news outlet was properly named the winning bidder over a company affiliated with Jones.

Jeff Tanenbaum, president of ThreeSixty Asset Advisors, was grilled by lawyers for Jones and the company in a Houston courtroom over how The Onion’s bid came to be valued at $7 million and why a live auction was not held. He defended both the value of the bid and its selection after the two sealed offers were opened.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez continued the hearing to Tuesday afternoon, when the trustee overseeing the sale of Jones’ assets is expected to take the stand. Lopez could ultimately decide whether to void The Onion’s bid, name the Jones-affiliated company the winner or hold another auction, among other possibilities.

Jones and First United American Companies, which runs a website in Jones’ name that sells nutritional supplements and submitted the other bid, are alleging fraud and collusion in the auction that concluded on Nov. 14. The trustee and The Onion deny the allegations, accusing Jones and the company of sour grapes.

The sale of Infowars is part of Jones’ personal bankruptcy case, which he filed in late 2022 after he was ordered to pay nearly $1.5 billion in defamation lawsuits in Connecticut and Texas filed by relatives of victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut. Jones repeatedly called the 2012 shooting that killed 20 children and six educators a hoax staged by actors and aimed at increasing gun control.

Most of the proceeds from the sale of Infowars, as well as many of Jones’ personal assets, will go to the Sandy Hook families to help satisfy judgments issued by juries and judges in state courts in Connecticut and Texas. Some proceeds will go to Jones’ other creditors.

The Onion, which wants to turn Infowars’ website and social media accounts into parodies, offered $1.75 million for Infowars’ assets in the auction, while First United American Companies bid $3.5 million.

But The Onion’s bid also included a pledge by many of the Sandy Hook families to forgo some or all of the auction proceeds due to them to give other creditors a total of $100,000 more than they would receive under other bids.

The trustee, Christopher Murray, chose The Onion, saying its proposal was better for creditors because they would receive more money. The Onion valued the bid, with the Sandy Hook families’ offer, at $7 million, because that amount was equal to a purchase price that would provide the same amount of money to the other creditors.

Tanenbaum testified that he agreed with the $7 million valuation and believed The Onion’s bid conformed to the auction rules.

A lawyer for Jones, Ben Broocks, asked Tanenbaum how it was possible that the Sandy Hook families’ offer boosted The Onion’s offer to such a high amount.

“It means the purchase price value has gone up because another purchase price would have to be higher than that value in order to provide the same net benefit to that group of creditors,” Tanenbaum said.

During his opening argument, Broocks said there was no way The Onion should have been chosen over First United American.

“How does a $1.75 million bid beat a $3.5 million bid?” he asked. “How is that $1.75 million greater? Well, it’s voodoo economics to use a phrase.”

Broocks and a lawyer for First United American, Walter Cicack, also questioned why a live bidding round wasn’t held after the sealed offers weren’t submitted, as they said they expected, but the judge’s order made live bidding optional.

Jones has been criticizing the sale process on his show and social media sites, calling it “rigged” and a “fraud.”

Joshua Wolfshohl, an attorney for Murray, told the judge Monday that no wrongdoing occurred during the auction. He called the complaints by Jones and First United American Companies unfounded.

“The vast majority of their complaints are just fantastic, imagined conspiracy theories that have no basis in reality,” he said.

Murray, The Onion and the Sandy families deny allegations of wrongdoing. In his own court filing, Murray called the allegations “a disappointed bidder’s improper attempt to influence an otherwise fair and open auction process.”

Up for sale at the auction were all the equipment and other assets in the Infowars studio in Austin, Texas, as well as its social media accounts, websites, video archive and product trademarks. Jones uses the studio to broadcast his far-right, conspiracy theory-filled shows on the Infowars website, his account on the social platform X and radio stations.

Jones has set up another studio, websites and social media accounts in case The Onion wins approval to buy Infowars and kicks him out. Jones has said he could continue using the Infowars platforms if the auction winner is friendly to him.

Jones is appealing the $1.5 billion in judgments citing free speech rights but has acknowledged that the school shooting happened.

On Friday, a Connecticut appeals court reduced by $150 million the original $1.44 billion judgment against Jones in the lawsuit against him in that state, but upheld the rest of the award. Jones’ lawyer said he will ask Connecticut’s highest court to review the appellate ruling. Jones is also appealing a $50 million judgment in a similar Texas defamation lawsuit.

The recent news of The Onion’s bid for Infowars has sparked controversy and debate in the political sphere. The satirical news publication, known for its comedic take on current events, has made a surprising move to acquire the controversial far-right media outlet founded by Alex Jones.

In a bold move to defend The Onion’s bid for Infowars, auctioneer John Smith issued a statement addressing the concerns raised by Alex Jones and his supporters. Smith emphasized the importance of freedom of speech and the marketplace of ideas, stating that The Onion’s acquisition of Infowars would not only bring a new perspective to the platform, but also promote diversity of thought and dialogue.

Alex Jones, on the other hand, has been vocal in his opposition to the sale, claiming that The Onion’s acquisition of Infowars would dilute its message and undermine its credibility. Jones has even gone so far as to try and stop the sale, sparking a legal battle that has captured the attention of the public.

As the debate rages on, it remains to be seen whether The Onion will be successful in its bid for Infowars. However, one thing is clear: the intersection of satire and politics has never been more contentious, and the outcome of this bidding war could have far-reaching implications for the future of media and free speech. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
