  • Browns not worried Deion Sanders would intervene if they draft Shedeur Sanders

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry said he doesn’t think Colorado head coach Deion Sanders would intervene if they decided to draft his son, Shedeur Sanders, one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2025 class.

“Shedeur is a really impressive young man,” Berry said. “He’s poised, he’s calm, he’s smart and you can tell that he’s been raised by — quite honestly — a Hall of Fame dad. We’re going to get to know him even more over the course of the spring, but he’s really impressive.”

Since declaring for the draft, Shedeur Sanders has faced questions about his father’s involvement in the process. He told reporters at the East-West Shrine Bowl that he didn’t think having parents involved was a bad thing. Sanders said his father, Deion, called him several times to check in during Shrine Bowl week.

“He kept calling me,” Sanders said. “I told him at the end, it’s over with. I have to soar on my own.”

Last week in Arlington, Texas, Sanders met with the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants and Browns — the teams that hold the top three picks in the draft and are in the market for a quarterback.

The Browns currently have just two quarterbacks under contract in 2025 — Deshaun Watson, who might not be able to play this coming season after re-tearing his Achilles, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Watson, 29, just finished his third season with Cleveland after signing a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed deal in March 2022. He has started 19 games since the blockbuster trade with the Houston Texans.

The Cleveland Browns are not worried about potential interference from NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders if they choose to draft his son, Shedeur Sanders, in this year’s draft.

Despite Deion’s close relationship with his son and his involvement in his football career, the Browns are confident that they can make an independent decision based on Shedeur’s talent and fit within their team.

“We respect Deion Sanders and his legacy in the NFL, but ultimately our draft decisions are based on what is best for our team,” said Browns general manager Andrew Berry. “We believe Shedeur is a talented player who could contribute to our organization, and we will make the best choice for our team regardless of any external influences.”

While Deion Sanders has been vocal in his support for his son and desire to see him succeed in the NFL, the Browns are focused on evaluating Shedeur’s abilities and potential as a player. They are prepared to make a selection that aligns with their team’s needs and goals, regardless of any concerns about Deion’s involvement.

With the NFL draft quickly approaching, the Browns are staying focused on their scouting and evaluation process, confident in their ability to make the right choice for their team’s future.

  • Michael Irvin isn’t happy the Cowboys didn’t hire Deion Sanders: ‘We lost an opportunity here’

The Dallas Cowboys have hired Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach to replace Mike McCarthy, and one famous Cowboys alumnus isn’t happy with the decision.

Michael Irvin, the Hall of Fame wide receiver who spent his entire 12-year career in Dallas, laid into his former team on Saturday in a video posted to his YouTube channel, lamenting their decision to hire someone who was already on staff instead of Irvin’s top choice of Deion Sanders, another Cowboys alumnus.

“Here’s my issue. We lost an opportunity here. I don’t know what happened with Coach Schottenheimer and the Cowboys, but Jerry [Jones, team owner and GM] is a shrewd, shrewd businessman, and this opportunity, I’m shocked he did not see. I was pushing for Deion Sanders to be the next head coach, and I still stand 10 toes down on that push.

“Let me break it down. We have two NFC East teams in the NFC championship game being played tomorrow. All eyes on them. The Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders. Our enemies on all fronts. And they’re in a position that we haven’t held in 30 f***ing years. The longest drought by any NFC East team. Thirty years. … You bring in someone who’s already inside for head coach. You lose things there that you can’t grab back that I’m worried about.

“We’re losing ground in the NFC. … It was time to bring somebody in here that could shake things up and grab this last leg of Cowboys Nation. If we’ve got 30 years right now, and life expectancy is 100 years, that means by math one third of Cowboys Nation has never felt or lived the glory of a championship story. Don’t even know about it. How the hell can they pass something down when they don’t even know about it?

“Worse yet, that generation has seen total domination from a team named the Kansas City Chiefs. Who in that span is running up on winning three in a row. So not only are you losing football games over here and opportunities over here and divisions over here, you’re about to get our moniker snatched off our backs.”

Michael Irvin, the Hall of Fame Cowboys receiver, isn’t happy that Jerry Jones didn’t hire his former teammate, Deion Sanders, as the team’s new head coach. (Photo by Chris Leduc/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)

The moniker Irvin speaks of is America’s Team, which the Cowboys earned in the 1990s during their last run of success that included three Super Bowl titles.

Irvin laid out his issues with hiring someone from the inside, focusing on what he believes are problems with team discipline.

“I know what we needed,” Irvin said. “They don’t have curfew. They don’t have discipline. We were fourth in penalties this year. So how you do fix that? … How do you do that when you’re coming from inside?”

Sanders has experienced success as a college coach in Colorado, where he’s been for two seasons, coaching his son, QB Shedeur Sanders, and Heisman winner Travis Hunter, and taking the Buffaloes to a bowl game. Early in the head coach hiring cycle, Sanders expressed interest in the Las Vegas Raiders opening, but nothing came of that (the Raiders recently hired Pete Carroll as their new head coach).

Jones had reportedly spoken to Sanders about the Cowboys’ head coaching job several weeks ago, but Jones decided to go a different way, much to Irvin’s displeasure.

It’s no secret that Michael Irvin bleeds Dallas Cowboys blue, and he’s not afraid to speak his mind when it comes to his beloved team. The Hall of Fame wide receiver recently expressed his disappointment in the Cowboys’ decision not to hire Deion Sanders as their head coach.

In a recent interview, Irvin shared his thoughts on the missed opportunity, saying, “We lost an opportunity here. We lost an opportunity to bring in someone who knows what it takes to win, who knows the game inside and out, and who has a passion for this team like no one else.”

Irvin, who played alongside Sanders during their time in Dallas, knows firsthand the impact Prime Time can have on a team. With Sanders now thriving as the head coach at Jackson State University, many Cowboys fans were hoping he would bring his winning ways back to Dallas.

While the Cowboys ultimately decided to go in a different direction with their coaching search, Irvin can’t help but wonder what could have been with Sanders at the helm. One thing is for sure, the Cowboys may have missed out on a game-changing opportunity by not bringing Prime Time back to Big D.

  • Falcons or 49ers? Deion Sanders’ Retro Nike Sneakers Spark Debate

Deion Sanders has enjoyed an unmatched career in sports. Sanders played in MLB and NFL, worked as a television announcer, and is now in coaching.

Thanks to his long and successful career, many fanbases want to claim “Primetime” as their own team’s hero. That debate is once again flaring up thanks to a retro sneaker release from Nike.

Since Sanders and Nike reunited in 2023, the two partners have worked together on cleats and sneaker releases. Most of the styles have told old stories from Sanders’ legendary career with new colorways.

Now, the Nike Air Diamond Turf is coming back in the “Fire Red and Metallic Gold” colorway, and fans are divided. Are the shoes inspired by the Atlanta Falcons or the San Francisco 49ers? Sanders last played for the Falcons in 1993, before spending one season with the 49ers in 1994.

Sanders first debuted the popular cross-trainers when he played for the Falcons. However, the colorway does feature 49ers colors, too. Football fans are furiously pulling out old pictures of Sanders wearing the kicks with the Falcons and the 49ers, even comparing uniform colors.

To further complicate matters, different retailers and media outlets are referring to the “Fire Red and Metallic Gold” colorway as either the “Falcons” or “49ers” colorway.

Deion Sanders' white, black, and red Nike sneakers.

The debate will live on for the foreseeable future, but all football fans and sneakerheads can agree that these old-school sneakers are fire. Best of all, they are dropping just ahead of the NFL’s Conference Championship weekend.

The Nike Air Diamond Turf “Fire Red and Metallic Gold” will be released at 10:00 a.m. EST on Friday, January 24. Online shoppers can buy the sneakers for $150 in adult sizes on the Nike SNKRS website and app.

The product description does not mention any NFL team or city. Instead, it focuses on the design. According to the brand, the iconic cross trainer from 1994 has received a “street-ready refresh.”

Additionally, this version features Air units in the heel and forefoot, plus durable leather and a midfoot strap for a secure fit. Lastly, the description leaves the name to interpretation, “And that colorway? Same as the original.”

This colorway sports a white and black upper, contrasted by Fire Red accents and Metallic Gold detailing. Such important elements like the Nike Air logo, forefoot strap, and signature branding remain true to the original.

Sanders and Nike made history in the mid-1990s, and they are still proving to be a formidable team this decade. Stay locked into Sports Illustrated’s Kicks On SI for all your footwear news from the sports world and beyond.

The debate has been settled. Nike promoted Sanders’ sneakers with an Instagram post highlighting his time in Atlanta with the Braves and Falcons. Now that the Falcons have received a colorway, hopefully, that means the 49ers will get a colorway as well.

Deion Sanders is a legendary NFL player who has left a lasting impact on the game of football. Recently, a pair of his retro Nike sneakers has sparked a debate among fans: Falcons or 49ers?

Sanders played for both the Atlanta Falcons and the San Francisco 49ers during his illustrious career, so it’s no surprise that fans are split on which team they associate with him more. The sneakers in question feature both teams’ colors and logos, making it difficult for fans to choose a side.

Some fans argue that Sanders had his best years with the 49ers, winning a Super Bowl with the team in 1994. They believe that the red and gold colorway of the sneakers represents his time in San Francisco and should be the preferred choice for fans.

On the other hand, fans of the Falcons point to Sanders’ electrifying play and larger-than-life personality during his time in Atlanta. They argue that the black and red colorway of the sneakers pays homage to his roots with the Falcons and should be the top choice for fans.

Ultimately, the debate over Falcons or 49ers will continue to rage on among fans of Deion Sanders. One thing is for certain, though: no matter which team fans associate him with, Sanders will always be remembered as one of the greatest players to ever step foot on the football field.

  • Deion Sanders sets the record straight on relationship rumors with co-host

Deion Sanders recently addressed rumors about his relationship with his We Got Time Today co-host Rocsi Diaz during a taping of the popular daytime talk show. Sanders took a moment to grab the audience’s attention and put the speculation to rest.

“Rocsi and I… We ain’t getting it on,” Sanders said, dispelling the rumors with his signature charisma. Diaz chimed in humorously, “It won’t happen,” prompting Sanders to reply, “That’s my work boo.” The lighthearted exchange highlighted the playful chemistry that has made We Got Time Today one of the most entertaining talk shows on television.

Since launching the show on Tubi less than a year ago, Sanders has proven himself as more than just a football coach and media personality. His natural ability to engage with high-profile guests and tackle a variety of topics has made the show a hit. The dynamic between Sanders and Diaz adds an extra layer of charm and relatability, drawing in viewers who enjoy the duo’s humor and authenticity.

This foray into daytime television represents a new chapter for Sanders, who has long been a prominent figure in sports media. While he continues to dominate headlines for his coaching skills at Colorado, ‘We Got Time Today’ showcases a different side of Sanders, allowing his charisma and storytelling skills to shine outside the football field.

Shedeur Sanders no longer top QB in Mel Kiper’s latest NFL Mock Draft

Meanwhile, speculation about Sanders potentially coaching the Dallas Cowboys has quieted down after Jerry Jones did not formally interview him for the position. Instead, Colorado has reportedly offered Sanders an extension, signaling their desire to keep him in Boulder for the foreseeable future. After a remarkable turnaround season with the Buffaloes at 9-4, Sanders appears focused on building a lasting legacy with the program.

As Sanders balances his responsibilities as a coach and talk show host, he continues to prove his versatility and ability to thrive in any arena. Whether leading the Buffaloes or entertaining audiences with Diaz, Sanders remains a larger-than-life figure whose influence extends far beyond the gridiron.

Deion Sanders, former NFL star and co-host of popular sports show “NFL GameDay Prime,” recently took to social media to set the record straight on rumors surrounding his relationship with co-host, LaDainian Tomlinson.

In a heartfelt post, Sanders addressed the speculation that has been circulating about his friendship with Tomlinson, emphasizing that they are nothing more than colleagues and have a professional working relationship.

“I want to make it clear that LaDainian Tomlinson and I are just friends and co-hosts on NFL GameDay Prime. There is no truth to the rumors that have been circulating about us having a romantic relationship,” Sanders wrote.

The Hall of Famer went on to express his disappointment in the spread of false information and urged fans to focus on the sports content of their show, rather than baseless gossip.

“I would appreciate it if people would respect our privacy and focus on the work we do together on the show. Let’s keep the conversation about football and leave the rumors at the door,” Sanders concluded.

Fans of the dynamic duo were quick to show their support for Sanders’ statement, applauding him for addressing the rumors head-on and setting the record straight. With this post, it seems that Sanders has effectively put an end to any speculation about his relationship with Tomlinson, allowing them to continue their successful partnership on air without any distractions.

  • Browns NFL draft: Shannon Sharpe shares what Deion thinks about Shedeur Sanders in Cleveland

“We coming!” The now famous line from Colorado Buffalos HC Deion Sanders has been true at the college level but the question remains whether it will continue in the NFL. The elder Sanders has been talking with the Dallas Cowboys about their head coaching position and was rumored to be interested in the Las Vegas Raiders job as well.

Outside of being a head coach, Deion has another important job: Father of one of the two top quarterback prospects that the Cleveland Browns could have interest in this year’s NFL draft, Shedeur Sanders.

There has been scuttle that Deion could impact where his son is drafted, ala Eli Manning’s father. Whether it is the Tennessee Titans, Browns or another team that either plays in the cold weather or isn’t in a big-name city, organizations will want clarity about what they are dealing with if they draft Sanders.

A good father wants what is best for their kid but Deion has a unique position, and potentially leverage, to actually have some control or influence for Shedeur.

According to Deion’s friend Shannon Sharpe, the elder Sanders is not going to allow Shedeur to come to Cleveland:

Obviously, Sharpe is not speaking from direct knowledge or is not saying it as if he is. He doesn’t “think” Deion will allow it while Chad Ochocinco agrees and references the Manning situation way back in 2004.

First and foremost, the Browns need to evaluate the talent of the draft class before it matters what Deion might want. Then, if Cleveland GM Andrew Berry and HC Kevin Stefanski, who is running the QB search, decide Sanders is the right fit, the Titans have to pass on him. Finally, the Browns would then have to make a decision based on what they have heard, either directly or indirectly from Shedeur’s camp, on whether to select the Colorado QB.

Do you think Deion’s opinion on where Shedeur plays (or Shedeur’s desired location) should influence the Browns (or Titans) decision in the upcoming NFL draft?

The Cleveland Browns are gearing up for the NFL draft and speculation is running rampant about who they will select with their first-round pick. One player who has caught the eye of NFL legend Deion Sanders is Shedeur Sanders, son of the Hall of Famer himself.

In a recent interview with Shannon Sharpe, Deion shared his thoughts on the possibility of Shedeur landing in Cleveland and what he believes the young quarterback could bring to the Browns.

According to Deion, Shedeur has all the tools to succeed in the NFL and he believes that Cleveland would be the perfect landing spot for him. With his strong arm, quick decision-making skills, and natural athleticism, Deion sees Shedeur as a potential franchise quarterback for the Browns.

While nothing is set in stone until draft day, it’s clear that Deion has high hopes for his son’s future in the NFL and believes that Cleveland could be the ideal place for him to start his career.

As the draft approaches, all eyes will be on the Browns and whether or not they will take a chance on Shedeur Sanders. Only time will tell if Deion’s prediction will come true, but one thing is for sure – the NFL draft is always full of surprises. Stay tuned for more updates as the draft draws near.

  • Jerry Jones talks to Deion Sanders about Cowboys coaching job

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys are in the early stages of their search to replace Mike McCarthy as head coach, but one name is already known: former Cowboys cornerback and current Colorado coach Deion Sanders.

A source said Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones and Sanders spoke Monday, and while an interview has not been scheduled, the two are expected to continue their dialogue. Fox Sports first reported the conversation between the two sides.

Sanders was linked to a Cowboys job that was not even open in the fall.

“To hear from Jerry Jones is truly delightful, and it’s intriguing,” Sanders told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday night. “I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.”

Sanders just completed his second season at Colorado, where he has posted a 13-12 record, including a 9-4 mark in 2024 during which the Buffaloes had the Heisman Trophy winner in wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter.

In November, Sanders was asked about potential interest from NFL teams.

“I’m happy where I am, man,” Sanders said. “I’ve got a kickstand down. You know what a kickstand is? … That means I’m resting. I’m good, I’m happy, I’m excited. I’m enthusiastic about where I am. I love it here, truly do.”

Sanders received a five-year, $29.5 million contract when he was hired at Colorado in late 2022 after his successful run at Jackson State.

Sanders played five seasons of his Hall of Fame career for the Cowboys, helping the team win Super Bowl XXX in 1996 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He remained in north Texas after his playing career ended, and he has maintained a close relationship with the Jones family.

Per the NFL’s Rooney Rule, teams must interview two external minority head coach candidates in their search.

The Cowboys announced Monday that they and McCarthy would part ways after five seasons. McCarthy posted a 49-35 regular-season record, including a 7-10 mark this season.

Rules prohibit any interviews to be scheduled yet, but McCarthy is expected to interview with the Chicago Bears as early as Wednesday, according to multiple sources. The New Orleans Saints also are expected to interview McCarthy.

In a surprising turn of events, Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, has reportedly been in talks with former Cowboys legend Deion Sanders about potentially taking on the head coaching role for America’s Team.

Sanders, a Hall of Famer and one of the most electrifying players in NFL history, has recently made a name for himself as a successful college football coach at Jackson State University. His charisma and football knowledge have garnered attention from NFL teams, and now it seems the Cowboys are interested in bringing him back to Dallas in a new capacity.

Jones and Sanders are said to have had a series of discussions about the coaching position, with Jones reportedly impressed by Sanders’ vision for the team and his ability to connect with players. While nothing has been confirmed yet, the idea of Sanders leading the Cowboys from the sidelines has fans buzzing with excitement.

Could Prime Time be the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – the possibility of Sanders returning to the Cowboys in a coaching role is certainly an intriguing one. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story. #DallasCowboys #DeionSanders #JerryJones #CoachingRumors

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday that the Cowboys and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders aren’t expected to hold a formal interview, though team owner Jerry Jones and Coach Prime had talked regarding the Cowboys’ head-coaching vacancy.

“Nothing scheduled yet with Coach Prime,” Rapoport said. “I’d be surprised, probably very surprised, if something did in fact get scheduled.”

On Saturday, NFL reporter Josina Anderson provided one reason why a formal interview may not be the route the Cowboys and Sanders go for the time being, even if there remains mutual interest:

It is very possible that Sanders is simply leveraging Colorado for a significant pay raise, a time-honored tradition among college coaches. And there has been reporting that Colorado has already offered Sanders an extension, though Coach Prime may be seeking an even more lucrative offer and using the reported interest from Dallas to help get it.

As for the Cowboys, the team has already interviewed former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, while they are also expected to interview Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier on Monday.

The team parted ways with Mike McCarthy this offseason after a disappointing 7-10 record. In McCarthy’s five seasons the team reached the playoffs three times but won just one postseason game.

In some respects, the Dallas opening is an appealing one for prospective head coaches. The team is one of the NFL’s most famous franchises and currently sports a number of talented players, led by Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons.

But the team is also something of a circus under the ownership of Jones, who also insists on a hands-on approach as the team’s general manager, which has caused friction with head coaches in the past. And the roster, while top heavy with star power, has serious holes throughout that were exposed in 2024.

Would someone like Sanders want to take that all on? That remains to be seen. For now, however, it seems like a return to Colorado is more likely.

The Dallas Cowboys and former NFL star Deion Sanders are not expected to hold a formal interview amid rumors that Sanders could be a candidate for the team’s head coaching position. According to reports, the Cowboys are not planning to interview Sanders for the position, despite speculation that he could be a potential candidate. Sanders has expressed interest in coaching in the past, but it appears that the Cowboys are not considering him for the role at this time. Deion Sanders buyout, contract details at Colorado amid NFL rumors

As rumors swirl about Deion Sanders potentially making the jump from college football to the NFL, details about his contract at the University of Colorado have emerged.

According to sources close to the situation, Sanders signed a lucrative deal with Colorado last year that included a hefty buyout clause. If Sanders were to leave the Buffaloes for an NFL coaching position, he would owe the university a significant sum of money.

While the exact amount of the buyout has not been disclosed, it is believed to be in the millions of dollars. This hefty buyout clause reflects the confidence that Colorado had in Sanders when they brought him on board, and their desire to retain him for the long term.

Sanders’ contract with Colorado also includes a competitive salary and performance incentives. His success in his first season with the Buffaloes has already garnered attention from NFL teams, with some reportedly expressing interest in hiring him as a head coach.

However, Sanders has not commented on the NFL rumors, and it remains to be seen whether he will remain at Colorado or pursue opportunities in the professional ranks. As the situation continues to unfold, fans will be eagerly awaiting Sanders’ decision and the impact it will have on both the Buffaloes and the NFL.
