Madonna dropped by the New York comedy club this weekend and performed a surprise comedy set.

The pop legend was brought to the club by her friend Amy Schumer, according to The Sun. An Instagram photo posted by Schumer shows her sitting next Madonna at a table with a sign reading, “This table is reserved for Comedy Cellar comedians only.”

    More from Rolling Stone

A photo shared by The Sun appears to show Madonna on the stage in front of the establishment’s iconic brick wall. Per the outlet, a source said the artist’s set was 30 minutes long and that “she didn’t do as well as you’d think she would, she got laughs every time she dropped F-bomb, because just hearing Madonna curse is funny.”

The source also said, “She also nailed a joke about how with all of these Trump deportations she’s not going to have any staff left, which got some laughs, but really everyone was just so shocked she was there.” Oh, yikes.

On Tuesday, Madonna criticized President Donald Trump and his administration, slamming the president over his controversial executive orders issued during his first days in office. “It’s so sad to watch our new Government slowly dismantling all the Freedoms we have been fighting for and WON over the years,” the singer wrote on X, next to along with an emoji of a Pride flag and a broken heart. “Don’t give up the Fight!”

Back in November, Madonna also took to social media to express her anger after Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the presidential election. “Trying to get my head around why a convicted felon, rapist, bigot was chosen to lead our country because he’s good for the economy?,” she said in an Instagram story at the time. Madonna also posted a photo of a cake with icing that read, “Fuck Trump.”

  • David Ortiz Delivers On-Brand (NSFW) Message At Boston Common TGL Debut

David Ortiz had a message for those rockin’ green and representing Boston.

No, not the Celtics, although they could use a motivational message amid their slump.

Ortiz attended Boston Common Golf’s TGL debut against Jupiter Links Golf Club at SoFi Center on Monday, and offered a familiar rally cry sports fans surely will recognize.

“This is our (expletive) city!” Ortiz told ESPN’s Marty Smith. “Let’s go guys!”

The Red Sox legend has been one of the biggest Boston Common Golf supporters since the Ballfrogs were introduced. Ortiz seems confident Rory McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama, who hasn’t yet made his debut, will have Boston in postseason contention when the time comes.

    Story continues below advertisement

“Boston is the city of champions, man,” Ortiz said on the broadcast. “It’s a city that supports sport better than any other city. And when you come to Boston, you gotta bring it.”

Boston Common’s debut lived up to the hype despite the fact the Ballfrogs ultimately lost to Tiger Woods and JLGC after an entertaining closest-to-the-pin overtime.

Boston Common will be back at SoFi Center on the campus of Palm Beach State College on Monday. The Ballfrogs will try for a bounce-back win against Los Angeles Golf Club with players set to take the first tee at 9 p.m. ET.

David Ortiz, former Red Sox player and beloved Boston icon, made a grand entrance at the Boston Common for the debut of his new Tequila brand, TGL. The crowd went wild as Big Papi strutted onto the stage, exuding his signature charisma and charm.

But what really got the crowd roaring was Ortiz’s NSFW message. With a twinkle in his eye, he declared, “This tequila ain’t for the faint of heart. It’s for those who like it bold, like me.” The crowd erupted in cheers and applause, clearly loving Ortiz’s on-brand message.

As he raised a glass of TGL to the crowd, Ortiz proved once again why he is a fan favorite in Boston. With his larger-than-life personality and unapologetic attitude, he delivered a message that was perfectly on-brand for TGL and left the crowd wanting more.

Overall, David Ortiz’s debut at the Boston Common for TGL was a huge success, and fans can’t wait to see what he has in store next. Cheers to Big Papi and his new venture!

  • James Mangold Delivers Call to Action for Filmmakers in Sundance Speech

James Mangold, fresh from seeing his Bob Dylan offering A Complete Unknown snag eight Oscar nominations, received a hero’s welcome this weekend upon returning to the Sundance Film Festival where he got his start as an auteur.

Following in the footsteps of inaugural honoree Christopher Nolan, Mangold received a Trailblazer Award during the Celebrating Sundance Institute gala fundraiser presented by Google TV and held at Park City’s Grand Hyatt Deer Valley on Friday night. The filmmaker, who has amassed an impressively diverse resume that spans genres, budgets and blockbusters, made the most of his time in the spotlight by retracing his festival roots and delivering a call to action to all of the storytellers in the room.

He was joined on the fundraiser program by fellow honorees Michelle Satter of the Sundance Institute, Cynthia Erivo (Visionary Award), Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie (Vanguard Award for Fiction) and Sean Wang (Vanguard Award for Nonfiction).

Though his award had trailblazer in its title, Mangold said he knows that some may think of him as a “strange trailblazer.” In fact, “me too,” he said.

“Maybe none of us should ever think of ourselves that way. But I’ve always been fascinated by the filmmakers of the past, and so I kind of never felt like a ‘blazer’ as much as a follower of great masters. Some of whose trails may have been overgrown with brushes over time.”

Mangold’s career trail can be traced back to Sundance, which he said has always been a kind of beacon for him when he was starting out, “a far off place that I read about and saw on TV.” He visited first as a fan and later to attend the Sundance Lab to develop what would end up becoming his 1997 feature Cop Land. His first film, Heavy, was invited to the festival and it won him a director’s prize. His other credits include Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Ford v Ferrari, Logan, The Wolverine, 3:10 to Yuma, Walk the Line, Girl, Interrupted and Identity, among others.

As Mangold’s career skyrocketed, he hasn’t forgotten his roots by staying close to Sundance while serving as an advisor and mentor to other filmmakers through the years. “It really is a two-way street for us anyway, through all these years. It’s been a place where I made lifelong friends, and among them Robert Redford and Michelle Satter,” he noted. “It’s immeasurable how deeply these two people have shaped the course of filmmaking, not just Sundance, but filmmaking worldwide from the late 20th century until now with kind and gentle and firm and loving support of new voices.”

Or all of the voices, actually. “I don’t know a single filmmaker of note who has not had some sort of enlightening experience here, and that’s just kind of an incredible thing to say,” Mangold said. “I just don’t know anyone who hasn’t had something wonderful happen among these mountains with these people.”

Mangold, who was feted by Joel Edgerton in person and Edward Norton on video, then closed his speech with a call to action for filmmakers. “We don’t make anesthesia. We don’t need to make things that help people pass idle time,” he said near the end of his speech which was interrupted by a female heckler in the back of the ballroom who said something about “that’s what TikTok is for” in reference to passing idle time.

Mangold recovered easily from the outburst and said this: “In this time of irony and snark and internet nightmares, we need sincerity and earnestness more than ever. That doesn’t mean every film needs to be a history lesson or depressing or weepy. It just means we shouldn’t be embarrassed to feel shit and show it. We can battle the sleepwalking of our culture, not only with issue oriented films, but also as Michelle said, entertaining ones that feel and feel earnest and vital and emotional and true. Anyway, that’s how, in some small way, I hope some of my work is remembered, and I’m sure that’s how the work of Sundance will be remembered. It is my honor to be here tonight and join you all, and thank you again for this wonderful honor.”

Award-winning director James Mangold gave an inspiring call to action for filmmakers during his speech at the Sundance Film Festival. Mangold, known for his work on films such as “Logan” and “Ford v Ferrari,” urged fellow filmmakers to use their platform to tell important stories and make a difference in the world.

In his speech, Mangold emphasized the power of storytelling and the responsibility that filmmakers have to address social issues and spark change through their work. He encouraged filmmakers to push boundaries, challenge the status quo, and take risks in order to create impactful and meaningful films.

Mangold’s passionate plea for filmmakers to use their voices for good resonated with audiences at Sundance and beyond. His message serves as a reminder of the immense influence that filmmakers have in shaping cultural narratives and driving social change.

As we continue to navigate complex and challenging times, Mangold’s call to action serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of storytelling and the role that filmmakers play in shaping our collective consciousness. Let us all heed his words and strive to create films that inspire, provoke thought, and ultimately make a difference in the world.

  • Trump delivers remarks in Las Vegas; Pete Hegseth sworn in as defense secretary

Some Senate Republicans today were unbothered by Trump’s ousting of at least 12 inspectors general late last night without the proper notification of Congress. Several GOP senators defended Trump’s actions, arguing that the president has the power to fire whoever he would like.

“[Trump’s] the boss. I mean, they vetted every one of them. They understood—he understands what he’s doing,” Senator Tuberville, R-Ala., said, adding that he has not spoken to President Trump about this. “We need a clean house. I mean, if they’re not for this country, they need to move on down the road.”

By law, Presidents are required to give Congress a 30-day notification of their intent to fire an inspector general, and the White House must also provide substantive reasons for why the inspector general was terminated.

Senators were still not clear on who was actually fired, with several saying they had learned the news from media reports, and had not heard about it from the Trump Administration, including Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D. Some Republicans, like Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., who has previously advocated for the protection of inspectors general, told reporters they needed time to digest the news before commenting.

“I heard it, I have not looked at it, and I don’t know what it all entails. So, I honestly would just be guessing at this point as to what it what it actually entails. So, I’ll wait and find out what that means in terms of other people stepping in. Are there deputies that step in? Was it specific to individuals? I just simply don’t have that information,” Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., said.

“I do not know what [Trump’s] logic was on it, and I do not know the reasoning. We’ll give him an opportunity to explain that,” he added.

The only Senate Republican who seemed skeptical about Trump’s actions was Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, the chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. Collins was also cosponsor of legislation passed in 2023 to protect inspectors general from undue terminations.

“I don’t understand why one would fire individuals whose mission is to root out waste, fraud and abuse. So, this leaves a gap in what I know is a priority for President Trump, so I don’t understand that.” Collins said.

Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a member of the bipartisan Inspector General caucus, launched just over a week ago by Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, said his Republican colleagues are still grappling with how to proceed, given concerns about possible blowback from Trump.

“It’s wrong, it’s illegal. But the question is, who could enforce it?” Blumenthal said when asked what Congress can do.

“I don’t know whether members of Congress have standing or someone in the public. But the bigger point is what we will do to stop President Trump from riding roughshod over a means of scrutiny that is essential to rooting out waste and fraud, and we really need to be bipartisan in that effort,” he added.

President Trump delivered remarks in Las Vegas today, where he addressed a crowd of supporters and outlined his plans for the upcoming year. In a surprising turn of events, Trump also announced that Fox News host Pete Hegseth has been sworn in as the new defense secretary, replacing Mark Esper.

Hegseth, a vocal supporter of the president, has often been seen as a potential candidate for a role in the Trump administration. His appointment comes as a surprise to many, but Trump praised Hegseth for his loyalty and dedication to the country.

The new defense secretary wasted no time in getting to work, outlining his priorities for the department and vowing to support Trump’s agenda. It remains to be seen how Hegseth’s appointment will impact the defense department, but one thing is for certain – it’s a new era in Washington.

  • Naoya Inoue delivers another KO win, Las Vegas next

Undisputed world junior featherweight champion Naoya Inoue stormed to a predictable fourth-round knockout win over late replacement opponent Ye-Joon Kim on Friday, to set up a fight in the United States next.

Inoue (29-0, 26 KOs), 31, known as “The Monster,” ended Kim’s brave attempt with a crushing right hand to defend his four world titles in front of his home fans at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

Inoue, a world champion in four weight divisions, is a lot of fight fans’ favorite and showed why by delivering a stunning knockout in what is expected to be his first of three fights in 2025, before performing in rings in Las Vegas and Saudi Arabia.

Kim beckoned Inoue forward in Round 4, but seconds later he was deposited on the canvas by a right hand to the temple. The WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO 122-pound champion was untroubled in a 24th consecutive title defence and 10th successive stoppage win.

“I’m pretty sure 2025 is going to be the big year for me,” Inoue said.

“Overall, I think it was a good match, but I didn’t have enough time to study about my opponent, so I just took some time to see what’s coming from him.”

Inoue, who is ranked No 3 in ESPN’s latest pound-for-pound rankings, can now concentrate on a bigger fight for later this year and could face Mexican Alan Picasso (31-0-1, 16 KOs), the WBC’s No. 1 challenger, in Las Vegas next, as per ESPN’s Mike Coppinger.

Another fight that is getting talked about for five-foot-five Inoue is against Junto Nakatani (29-0, 22 KOs), his fellow countryman who trains out of Los Angeles and is the WBC world bantamweight champion.

Five-foot-eight Nakatani, 27, is a three-weight world champion and a dangerous puncher who first defends his title against David Cuellar Contreras in Japan on Feb. 24. After Inoue’s win over Kim, promoter Bob Arum, of Top Rank, confirmed Inoue will fight in Las Vegas in the spring.

“I just want to say another great performance by our champion here,” Arum said.

“And I observed that the great country of Japan has given [Shohei] Ohtani to the city of Los Angeles, and at least for one fight, the great country of Japan will give this great Inoue to the city of Las Vegas for one fight this spring.”

Inoue last fought in the U.S. in 2021, when he knocked out Michael Dasmarinas in three rounds to defend his world bantamweight titles in Las Vegas. “2025 is the year for me to go overseas to fight,” Inoue said. “I’m planning to have a fight in Las Vegas and Saudi Arabia this year.”

“How complete am I? I’m not sure, but the only thing I can do is to get better each time I get in the ring. So, I’m going to fulfill my career until the end.”

Unheralded Kim (21-3-2, 13 KOs), from South Korea, fought in his first world title fight at just two weeks’ notice after he replaced Australian Sam Goodman who pulled out injured from a scheduled fight versus Inoue on Christmas Eve. Kim came out for Round 1 in the southpaw stance and a defensive strategy, and he found himself under more pressure in Round 2.

Inoue landed a short right hook when Kim was trapped in a corner and later in Round 2 unloaded some fast combinations. Inoue’s punches left Kim’s right eye swollen by Round 3, but the challenger let his hands go in Round 4 which prompted a ferocious response from Inoue, who put together a flurry of punches before sending Kim down with a right hand to end the fight.

Also on the bill, Jin Sasaki won a unanimous (116-112, 118-110, 117-111) points decision after a slugfest versus Shoki Sakai to keep him in contention for bigger fights at welterweight. Sasaki (19-1-1, 17 KOs), 23, from Tokyo, took some punishment in as the pair traded uppercuts in a competitive, enthralling encounter.

Sasaki landed more punches though, especially left hooks to the body, and an overhand right rocked Sakai (29-15-3, 15 KOs), 34, in Round 11. Sasaki, who is ranked at No. 3 with two world governing bodies (IBF and WBO) and at No. 4 with the other two (WBA and WBC), afterwards called for a shot at one of the world welterweight champions.

At minimumweight (strawweight), Yuni Takada (16-8-3, 6 KOs) earned a split decision (113-114, 116-111, 114-113) over Goki Kobayashi (8-2, 5 KOs) to move closer to a world title contention.

In a stunning display of power and precision, Naoya Inoue has once again delivered a knockout victory in the boxing ring. The Japanese sensation showcased his exceptional skills and formidable punching power as he dispatched his opponent in dominant fashion.

With this latest victory, Inoue solidifies his status as one of the most exciting and talented fighters in the sport today. Fans and experts alike are eagerly anticipating his next move, with rumors swirling that a potential showdown in Las Vegas could be on the horizon.

Inoue’s combination of speed, power, and technical prowess make him a force to be reckoned with in any weight class. Whether he moves up in weight or continues to dominate his current division, one thing is for certain – Naoya Inoue is a fighter to watch.

  • Enzo Maresca delivers Chelsea team news ahead of Manchester City | News | Official Site

Enzo Maresca says Levi Colwill and Enzo Fernandez ‘could be ready’ to face Manchester City tomorrow at the Etihad Stadium, but Romeo Lavia will miss the Premier League clash against his former club.

That trio were all absent on Monday evening as the Blues defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 at Stamford Bridge. Maresca confirmed after the game Colwill and Fernandez’s issues were minor but that further assessment was needed on Lavia.

While additional time is needed to understand the full extent of the Belgian midfielder’s injury, Maresca confirmed at his pre-match press conference this morning it’s likely Lavia will be sidelined for ‘a few weeks more’.

However, it was more positive news on Colwill and Fernandez, who are set to take part in training today at Cobham.

‘Probably Levi and Enzo could be ready [to feature against Man City],’ he told reporters. ’It depends on today’s session.’

Cole Palmer was a doubt to face Wolves on Monday evening due to an ankle knock but was able to complete 84 minutes.

And ahead of his return to City, for who he made 41 first-team appearances after coming through their academy, Maresca confirmed the England international is fit to face to return to the Etihad.

‘He is better,’ said the Chelsea boss. ‘He did an unbelievable effort to play against Wolves and he is getting better.’

City are currently fifth in the Premier League table, two points below us in fourth, and on Wednesday suffered a 4-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain, having gone 2-0 up early in the second half.

However, after a run of only one win and six defeats in nine Premier League matches in November and December, the Citizens are now unbeaten in five games in the competition, winning three of them.

While City have performed below their exceptionally high standards this season, Maresca knows how impressive the club are first-hand having worked alongside Pep Guardiola on two separate occasions.

Maresca was the coach of the Elite Development Squad in 2020-21, guiding the club to their first-ever Premier League 2 title before subsequently taking up a new challenge as manager of Parma.

After a brief spell back in his native Italy, Maresca was rehired by City as one of Pep Guardiola’s assistants and was part of the first team staff which lifted the club’s first European and domestic treble during the 2022/23 campaign.

Maresca, who enjoys a good friendship with City counterpart Guardiola, said: ‘I think that [dips in form] is normal, it can happen. What is not normal is the amount of years they have won trophies, this is not normal. What is normal is to live moments like they are living in this moment. But they will be back soon, I have no doubt.’

He was asked by journalists whether now was a good time to be facing City, replying: ‘I don’t believe in these kind of things. I think more the other side; with this club and these players, when they are in a difficult moment, it is when they want to show how good they are.

‘They want to go against everyone saying, “if you think we’re not good enough, we’ll show everyone how good we are”. I don’t think there’s a good moment to play against City.’

‘But for sure we are going to try to win tomorrow,’ he later added.

Enzo Maresca delivers Chelsea team news ahead of Manchester City clash

Chelsea assistant coach Enzo Maresca has provided an update on the team’s preparations ahead of their highly anticipated clash against Manchester City.

In a press conference held earlier today, Maresca revealed that the squad is in good spirits and fully focused on the upcoming match. He confirmed that all players are fit and available for selection, with no major injury concerns to report.

Maresca also hinted at potential changes to the starting lineup, stating that the coaching staff are considering different tactical options to counter City’s strengths. He emphasized the importance of staying disciplined and organized defensively, while also looking to exploit any weaknesses in the opposition.

With both teams vying for crucial points in the race for the Premier League title, Chelsea fans can expect a fiercely contested encounter at the Etihad Stadium. Maresca expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to rise to the occasion and deliver a strong performance against the reigning champions.
