  • Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko will not return vs. Seattle Kraken

The Vancouver Canucks announced that goaltender Thatcher Demko will not return to tonight’s game against the Seattle Kraken

Demko exited midway through the second period and was replaced by backup Kevin Lankinen. Conor Garland had just scored to make the game 2-1 for Vancouver when Demko left for the locker room.

Including tonight, the 29-year-old appeared in six games this season, going 2-1-3 with an .879 save percentage and 3.43 goals-against average. Demko missed the first two months of the season rehabbing a knee injury he suffered in Game 1 of the first round of the 2024 playoffs against the Nashville Predators. He made his 2024-25 season debut on Dec. 10 against the St. Louis Blues, a 4-3 overtime loss.

The Vancouver Canucks announced that goaltender Thatcher Demko will not be returning to the game against the Seattle Kraken. Demko left the game in the second period after sustaining an injury and will not be able to continue playing.

This news comes as a blow to the Canucks, as Demko has been a key player for the team this season. The young goaltender has been a standout performer, consistently making big saves and keeping his team in games.

It remains to be seen how long Demko will be out of action, but the Canucks will have to rely on their backup goaltender to step up in his absence. This injury is certainly a setback for Vancouver, but they will have to rally together and continue to compete in Demko’s absence.

Canucks’ Thatcher Demko leaves game vs. Kraken

Starting goaltender and 2024 Vezina Trophy runner-up Thatcher Demko left Thursday’s game against the Seattle Kraken and was replaced between the pipes by Kevin Lankinen. He was ruled out by the team prior to the third period, but did not specify his ailment.

Though it was not immediately clear when Demko was injured, he did make a sprawling save on Oliver Bjorkstrand just minutes before leaving the ice. Canucks defenceman Noah Juulsen also skated into Demko earlier, and the netminder was slow to get up off of the ice.

Demko, 29, missed the first two months of the season with a knee injury that he suffered in Game 1 of the playoffs. He made his season debut on Dec. 10 against the St. Louis Blues and has started in six games prior to Thursday, with a 3.43 goals-against average and .879 save percentage.

Sportsnet’s Dan Murphy reported during the intermission that the Canucks would be dressing an emergency backup.

Demko, the 36th overall pick by the Canucks in the 2014 NHL Draft, owns a career 2.81 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage.

In a surprising turn of events, Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko was forced to leave Saturday night’s game against the Seattle Kraken due to an undisclosed injury. Demko, who has been a key player for the Canucks this season, was replaced by backup goalie Jaroslav Halak in the second period.

The loss of Demko is a significant blow to the Canucks, who are already without several key players due to injuries and COVID-19 protocols. Demko has been playing some of the best hockey of his career this season, with a .918 save percentage and a 2.85 goals against average.

It remains to be seen how serious Demko’s injury is and how long he will be out of the lineup. In the meantime, the Canucks will have to rely on Halak to hold down the fort in goal.

Fans are hopeful that Demko’s injury is not serious and that he will be back on the ice soon. In the meantime, they will be keeping a close eye on updates from the team regarding his status.
