  • Johnny Depp, Jude Law keep Heath Ledger’s legacy alive

Heath Ledger is famous for playing ‘Joker’ in ‘The Dark Knight’

Heath Ledger, who died due to accidental overdose of prescription medications on January 22, 2008, was already working on some projects prior to his demise.

Soon after his sudden death, the ventures he was working on were left in the middle.

For instance, Ledger was working on The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus before his death.

After he died, director Terry Gilliam feared that it might tank the project as the late Australian actor was playing a very significant character in the fantasy adventure.

This is when, Terry came up with the idea of recasting Heath’s role. Therefore, he took on-board three actors and close friends to The Dark Knight actor to portray the act with all having the same character.

Therefore, he first approached Johnny Depp to feature in the film, who happily agreed to do the role as he was quite a good friend of Ledger.

Later, the creator turned to Jude Law and Penguin star Colin Farrell to continue the late actor’s legacy in the movie. All happily agreed to do the movie.

Gilliam first thought to use CGI to supplement Heath’s appearance, but he ditched that idea himself and came up with another brilliant plan.

There is a scene in the 2009 movie where ‘Tony’ passes through the mirror and changes shape. The director felt he could infuse the three superstars in that part.

As the character passes through the mirror three times, therefore it seemed logical as well to use three different actors.

Surprisingly, Jude, Colin and Johnny all three gave quite wide ranging performances, reported Collider.

Johnny Depp and Jude Law, two talented actors who were close friends with the late Heath Ledger, continue to honor his legacy in their work and personal lives.

Ledger, who tragically passed away in 2008 at the young age of 28, left behind a lasting impact on the film industry with his iconic performances in films such as “Brokeback Mountain,” “The Dark Knight,” and “A Knight’s Tale.”

Depp and Law, who both worked with Ledger on various projects, have spoken fondly of their friendship with him and have expressed their admiration for his talent and passion for acting. In interviews, they have praised Ledger’s dedication to his craft and his ability to fully immerse himself in his roles.

In recent years, both Depp and Law have continued to pay tribute to Ledger by taking on challenging and diverse roles that push the boundaries of their acting abilities. Depp’s portrayal of eccentric characters like Captain Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise and Law’s transformative performances in films like “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” are a testament to their commitment to their craft, much like Ledger’s own dedication to his work.

As fans of Ledger, Depp and Law have also taken steps to keep his memory alive by supporting initiatives and projects that honor his legacy. Depp, in particular, has been vocal about his admiration for Ledger and has spoken out about the impact that his friend had on him personally and professionally.

In a time when Hollywood is constantly evolving and changing, it is heartwarming to see actors like Depp and Law continue to remember and celebrate the life and work of their dear friend, Heath Ledger. Through their own performances and actions, they are ensuring that Ledger’s legacy will never be forgotten.

  • INTERVIEW|’It’s everything I dreamed of in a character’: Lily-Rose Depp

Distancing herself from the ‘nepo-baby’ tag may not be easy for Hollywood actor Lily-Rose Depp. Born to Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, the 25-year-old actor debuted in Kevin Smith’s Tusk in the year 2014. The following year, she became the face of the iconic brand Chanel.

Her relationship with the fashion world has grown strong over the years. However, her recent performance in Robert Eggers’ gothic reimagining of Nosferatu is getting her the attention of critics and audiences.

Is it true that playing the role of Ellen in Nosferatu left you with nightmares?

That is true. I would say this was probably the most demanding role I have ever played, both physically and emotionally, so by the end it did take a lot out of me. So yeah, this is a character that did linger with me for a little while, but that’s what you dream of as an actor. Ellen has so many layers; she’s so complex. It’s everything I dreamed of in a role.

There is some real Oscar buzz around Nosferatu. How does it feel to be part of that?

I think that comes with a filmmaker as talented as Robert Eggers. This is his vision. I’m just so grateful to be a small part of it and for people to see this film. But the fact that it is already resonating with so many is really exciting. I know everyone involved with making this movie is proud of it.

What was it that first made you want to be a part of this film?

The first thing was the chance to work with Robert Eggers, a director I have always wanted to work with. It could have been any role, any script, and the answer would have been yes, but it just happened to be something as iconic as Nosferatu. It’s a story I knew and have always been fond of, but then when I read this script and understood how this is the story of Nosferatu through the eyes of Ellen Hutter, I was really so excited at the prospect of playing the role and being part of what is a really scary and twisted love story. It felt like a dream come true.

Interview with Lily-Rose Depp: ‘It’s everything I dreamed of in a character’

In a recent interview, actress Lily-Rose Depp opened up about her latest role and how it has been a dream come true for her. Depp, who is known for her roles in films such as “The King” and “Yoga Hosers,” has been receiving rave reviews for her performance in her latest project.

“It’s everything I dreamed of in a character,” Depp said. “I feel so lucky to have been able to bring this character to life and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.”

Depp went on to discuss the challenges she faced while preparing for the role and how she was able to overcome them. “It was definitely a challenging role, but I was determined to do my best and give it my all,” she said. “I worked hard to prepare for the role and I’m really proud of the work I did.”

Fans of Depp are eagerly anticipating her latest project and it’s clear that she is excited to share her work with the world. Keep an eye out for more updates on Depp’s latest project and be sure to catch her in action on the big screen soon.

  • Lily-Rose Depp Reveals 1 Of Her Dad’s Most Beloved Movies “Traumatized” Her As A Kid: “I Got Really Upset”

Lily-Rose Depp reveals which Johnny Depp‘s movie scared her the most as a child. As the daughter of the actor who famously portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and French singer and actor Vanessa Paradis, Depp grew up immersed in culture, art and cinema, splitting her time between the US and France. She would make her acting debut with Kevin Smith‘s Tusk before going on to star in everything from Netflix‘s The King to HBO’s The Idol.

The 25-year-old actor recently starred opposite Bill Skarsgård in Robert Eggers’ 2024 Nosferatu, a remake of the 1922 classic vampire movie of the same name, alongside Willem Dafoe, Emma Corrin, and Nicholas Hoult. Her entry into the supernatural horror genre isn’t a surprise, given that her father has worked on several gothic horror fantasy films that share a similar dark appeal, including Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd,…

Lily-Rose Depp Reveals 1 Of Her Dad’s Most Beloved Movies “Traumatized” Her As A Kid: “I Got Really Upset”

In a recent interview, actress Lily-Rose Depp opened up about a childhood memory that still haunts her to this day. The 22-year-old daughter of Johnny Depp revealed that one of her dad’s most beloved movies, “Edward Scissorhands,” left a lasting impact on her as a child.

“I remember watching ‘Edward Scissorhands’ when I was younger, and I got really upset,” Lily-Rose shared. “I couldn’t understand why my dad’s character had scissors for hands and why he was so lonely. It just really stuck with me.”

The 1990 Tim Burton film, which starred Johnny Depp as the titular character, tells the story of a gentle man with scissors for hands who is taken in by a suburban family. The movie is known for its whimsical yet dark themes and has since become a cult classic.

Despite the emotional reaction she had to the film, Lily-Rose acknowledged the impact that “Edward Scissorhands” had on her father’s career. “I know how special that movie is to so many people, and I’m proud of my dad for being a part of something so iconic,” she said.

While the movie may have traumatized her as a child, Lily-Rose has since come to appreciate the beauty and artistry of “Edward Scissorhands.” It just goes to show that sometimes, even the most beloved movies can leave a lasting impression on those who watch them.

  • Lily-Rose Depp says it ‘sucked’ to see Sam Levinson receive hate for ‘The Idol’

Lily-Rose Depp says it ‘sucked’ to see Sam Levinson receive hate for ‘The Idol’

Lily-Rose Depp is opening about the most “upsetting” part about the divisive reaction to her and The Weeknd’s sexed-up music industry drama The Idol, explaining that it was difficult for her to watch director and co-creator Sam Levinson receive hate for the highly-discussed HBO series.

“I think the thing that sucked about that was to have people talking s— about Sam, who is a great friend of mine and somebody that I consider family,” Depp told Josh Horowitz on a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “I’m super close with him and Ashley [Levinson] — his wife who’s a producer on the show — and they are such wonderful people, like, so incredible, so kind, and really kind of took me under their wing in a way.”

Levinson took over directing duties on The Idol after its original director Amy Seimetz departed the series in 2022. In March 2023, Rolling Stone published an article that saw 13 production members criticize Levinson’s direction of the show, which underwent rewrites and reshoots, with some claiming that he “weaken[ed] the show’s overarching message by dialing up the disturbing sexual content and nudity to match — and even surpass — that of his most successful show, Euphoria.”

Depp publicly defended Levinson — who also served as a producer and writer on the series — in a statement to Entertainment Weekly at the time, calling him “the best director I have ever worked with” and stating that she felt “seen, heard, and appreciated” on set. Still, while reflecting on the series, she noted it was difficult for her to witness the negative reaction toward him and his career.

“The only thing that was upsetting about that whole time period was people talking negatively about him, because the things that they said about him, particularly, as a filmmaker, just couldn’t be further from the truth than from, at least, my experience working with him,” she said on Happy Sad Confused. “So that sucks. You just never want to hear people talking s— about your friend.”

Depp also noted that she still has a lot of love for The Idol and her popstar character Jocelyn, who infamously strikes up a complicated and toxic relationship with self-help guru and cult leader Tedros (The Weeknd) on the show.

“People are always gonna make their own opinions of things, and so you just have to be steadfast in your conviction of, like, ‘I know why I’m doing this,’ and I know why I did that,” she said. “That was a period in my life where I feel like I learned so much, I was pushed so far out of my comfort zone, in the most beautiful way, and it gave me so much growth that I will always look back on that as one of the most special times of my life.”

She continued, “In a way, it was surreal, and not because we always knew it was going to be controversial… you’ve gotta be expecting that in a way, and that’s okay. I’m interested in that kind of work. I’m down for that. I think we were also, like, pushing society’s buttons intentionally a little bit, in a way, and of course, it was received in the way that it was, but it’s okay.”

The 25-year-old also noted that, despite the show receiving negative reviews and being canceled after one season, people still come up to her and confess that it’s one of their favorite shows. “I’m always like, ‘I love that.’ It makes me so happy,” Depp said. “It’s beautiful and I wouldn’t change anything about it.”

Listen to Depp discuss the series in the video above.

Lily-Rose Depp recently opened up about her feelings towards the backlash director Sam Levinson received for his film “The Idol” and expressed that it “sucked” to see him face hate.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Depp shared her thoughts on the criticism surrounding the film, stating that she believes Levinson is a talented filmmaker and does not deserve the negative attention he has received.

Depp, who starred in “The Idol” alongside Austin Butler, went on to defend Levinson’s work, highlighting the importance of art and creativity in the industry.

Despite the backlash and controversy surrounding the film, Depp expressed her support for Levinson and his vision, emphasizing that everyone is entitled to their own opinions but that it is important to respect the hard work and dedication that goes into creating art.

Overall, Depp’s comments shed light on the challenges and criticism that filmmakers often face in the industry, and serve as a reminder to appreciate and respect the creative process.

  • Johnny Depp ‘considering Jack Sparrow return in Pirates of the Caribbean 6’ | Films | Entertainment

Johnny Depp ‘considering Jack Sparrow return in Pirates of the Caribbean 6’ | Films | Entertainment

It’s been almost eight years since Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow sailed off into the sunset at the end of the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Since then, the 61-year-old star has been dropped by Disney after domestic abuse allegations by his ex-wife Amber Heard, which the actor strongly denies.

Yet having won a US libel case against her, fans are ever hopeful that he will make a return in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, which Depp had planned to be a proper send-off to his much-loved character.

During the court proceedings, the A-lister said he wouldn’t reprise Sparrow with Disney for even hundreds of millions of dollars.

Yet a couple of years after the dust has settled and with all the fan enthusiasm surrounding the idea, it now feels all the more likely, especially as the star says he doesn’t hold grudges.

The insider told us at the time: “The future is as deep and dark as Jack Sparrow’s mysterious, murky waters of the deep blue sea. The future with the Disney production is as cryptic as a pirate’s treasure map. Putting Johnny Depp in the role again and properly promoting it would be hard to top, and a windfall for the franchise. I’m sure Jack Sparrow longs for his desert islands. The character longs to continue his journeys into uncharted oceans but the incredibly talented actor has many scripts that he has to navigate through, and has to decide if Jack Sparrow deserves a second life.”

The source also warned that Disney studio bosses need to listen carefully to what fans of their franchises want, following recent misfires with Marvel and Star Wars.

Johnny Depp, the iconic actor known for his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, is reportedly considering a return to the beloved role in the upcoming sixth installment of the series.

Depp’s portrayal of the eccentric pirate captain has been a fan favorite since the first film was released in 2003, and his absence from the fifth film, “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” left many fans disappointed. However, recent reports suggest that Depp is in talks to reprise his role in the upcoming sequel.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, fans are already buzzing with excitement at the possibility of seeing Depp back in action as Captain Jack Sparrow. The actor’s quirky and charismatic performance has become synonymous with the character, and many believe that the franchise wouldn’t be the same without him.

As we wait for official confirmation, fans can only hope that Johnny Depp will once again don his pirate hat and set sail on another adventure in Pirates of the Caribbean 6. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the world of entertainment.

  • ‘Nosferatu’ director Robert Eggers said he knew Lily-Rose Depp was his star ‘as soon as I met her’

‘Nosferatu’ director Robert Eggers said he knew Lily-Rose Depp was his star ‘as soon as I met her’

Many films have taken on the classic Dracula tale, but a woman is at its center for the first time in the new Nosferatu movie. Lily-Rose Depp stars as a newlywed who is haunted by a vampire.

“As soon as I met her, it was clear. She really understood the script. She really understood the character,” writer-director Robert Eggers told Yahoo Entertainment. “Then she auditioned, and it was every bit as powerful as I expected and just as raw and ferocious as you see on the screen. I’m so proud of what she accomplished in this film.”

Eggers has been working on this film for so long that the cast has switched around a few times. But as soon as Depp auditioned, he knew she was his star. Her initial performance moved him to tears — as well as the casting director and the videographer.

Depp told Yahoo Entertainment that she “really, really, really wanted” the role, so she gave it her all.

See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories.

“Auditions are always weird, especially over Zoom. It’s not the ideal lens to show someone your best work,” she said. “You just try to throw things to the wall and hope it’ll stick … so I thought the least I can do is get there emotionally and physically. Somehow, it worked!”

To say the role is physical is an understatement. Depp’s character, Ellen Hutter, is often emotional — she’s devastated when her new husband leaves her amid horrific nightmares to travel, then wracked with mysterious seizures that leave her in full-body spasms, shrieking and crying with her eyes rolled back in her head.

Depp did extensive preparation with movement coach Marie-Gabrielle Rotie, who helped her “find those movements” and “make sure they were telling a story.”

“As the story progresses, so does Ellen’s situation and what she’s going through … her internal war, if you will,” the actress said. “We wanted to make sure those physical movements not only looked right physically on camera, but that they were … telling the viewer something about what’s going on. In a way, the physicality and emotion kind of went hand in hand.”

Lily-Rose Depp, in character as Ellen Hutter, looks up at the ceiling in a dark room as she screams and rips at her clothes.

Eggers said that the 1922 version of Nosferatu shifts its focus to Ellen at the end, but it was important for him to follow her perspective from the beginning. Count Orlok’s mere existence is terrifying for the viewer.

There’s been a “long journey” through “the evolution of the cinematic vampire,” Eggers said. He named a wide range of them: Max Schreck, who starred in the 1922 film Nosferatu; Bela Lugosi, who portrayed the titular vampire in the 1931 Dracula film; Christopher Lee, star of the 1958 film Dracula; and Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen from the Twilight book and movie franchise.

For Eggers’s vampire, played by Bill Skarsgård, he wanted to depart from the typical onscreen adaptation and focus on “folkloric vampires” to create a new villain.

“They’re putrid, rotting corpses. So the question is, what would a dead Transylvanian nobleman look like, and how would he behave?” he said. “That’s what informed the design of the makeup, the costume and Bill’s performance.”

His Count Orlok has a distinct mustache like Vlad the Impaler, though onscreen vampires are frequently bare-faced. Eggers said he had to “tip [his] hat” to Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel for that one — the original Dracula had a mustache.

    Nosferatu is now in theaters.

Robert Eggers, the acclaimed director behind the chilling film “Nosferatu,” recently revealed that he knew Lily-Rose Depp was his star “as soon as I met her.” Depp, the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, has been making a name for herself in the industry with her captivating performances.

In an interview, Eggers spoke highly of Depp’s talent and presence, stating, “Lily-Rose has a magnetic quality that draws you in. She is a true star in every sense of the word.” He went on to praise her dedication to the role and her ability to bring depth and nuance to her character.

Fans of Depp and Eggers alike are eagerly awaiting the release of “Nosferatu,” which promises to be a fresh and haunting take on the classic vampire tale. With Eggers’ visionary direction and Depp’s undeniable talent, this film is sure to be a must-see for horror enthusiasts everywhere.
