In a video posted on Instagram, the hiker, Heather, alleged that she was pulled aside by security before her flight to Rishikesh.

“At around 10.30am this morning, I was passing through security at Delhi Airport with the intention of taking an internal flight to Rishikesh, I innocently placed my Garmin Inreach in the tray to go through the scanner and at that moment I was promptly pulled aside by security and told to wait,” Heather said in her post.

She said the security personnel subsequently told her that the Garmin Inreach device is banned in India and that she was being handed over to the police.

“I waited and waited, wondering what on earth was going on, I was eventually told that the Garmin was illegal here and that they were handing me over to the police, I called the Embassy whilst waiting for the Police but was told there was little they could do since they were unable to intervene since I was in the hands of the law in this country…,” she wrote.

Heather claimed that she was later taken to a police station for questioning and was made to sign some documents.

“I was eventually taken to the police station, where I was questioned in a fairly friendly manner and made to sign document after document. I didn’t take the ‘no comment’ stance, foolishly or not; it is my nature, to be honest, and after all, there was absolutely no intent on my behalf,” she wrote in her post.

“… At 9pm, I was finally released from the police station, but I am required to return to attend court,” the tourist added.

In a similar incident, a Czech national was booked in Goa last month for allegedly carrying a Garmin Edge 540 GPS device, news agency PTI reported.

The device, banned in India, was found during screening at the Manohar International Airport at Mopa in North Goa. He has been booked under provisions of the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933 and has been issued a notice to appear before the Goa police.

In a shocking turn of events, a foreign hiker was detained at the Delhi airport for carrying a banned GPS device. The hiker, who was on his way to explore the scenic landscapes of India, was taken into custody after security officials discovered the prohibited device in his luggage.

According to reports, the GPS device in question had the potential to compromise national security and was on the list of banned items for travelers entering the country. The hiker, who claimed to be unaware of the restrictions, now faces legal action for violating the regulations.

This incident serves as a reminder to all travelers to familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations of the country they are visiting. Ignorance is not an excuse, especially when it comes to matters of national security.

  • Scottish Hiker Carrying Garmin inReach GPS Device Detained At Delhi Airport

Scottish Hiker Carrying Garmin inReach GPS Device Detained At Delhi Airport

A Scottish hiker was detained at the Delhi airport on Thursday for carrying a GPS device, which are banned in India. Heather was headed to Rishikesh when the security at the Indira Gandhi International Airport handed her over to the police for carrying a Garmin inReach GPS.

Heather shared her experience on Instagram, asking other travellers not to bring devices like Garmin inReach or any satellite communicator to India. “Do not try to travel to India with a Garmin inReach or any other satellite communicator,” she said in her post, adding, “They are illegal here.”

In a video on Instagram, Heather said that she even contacted the embassy but was told there was little they could do since she was now in the hands of the law in India. Heather also claimed that during her detention, the police denied her access to water.

In a detailed caption, Heather wrote, “At around 10.30 am, I was passing through security at Delhi Airport with the intention of taking an internal flight to Rishikesh. I innocently placed my Garmin inReach in the tray to go through the scanner, and at that moment I was promptly pulled aside by security and told to wait.”

She claimed that after being made to wait for a long time, she was told that the Garmin was illegal in India “and that they were handing me over to the police.”

“I was eventually taken to the police station where I was questioned, in a fairly friendly manner, and made to sign document after document. I didn’t take the ‘no comment’ stance, foolishly or not, it is my nature to be honest, and after all, there was absolutely no intent on my behalf,” she wrote.

After several hours in police custody, Heather said she was released around 9 pm but was told she would have to return for a court appearance.

She added, “I am not the only person who has fallen victim to this law. Hence, I felt compelled to write this post.” She also referenced a recent case involving a Canadian runner arrested in India in December for carrying a similar device.

Though Heather claimed the detention overwhelmed her, she hoped sharing her story would help others avoid a similar fate. “I don’t know what the outcome will be,” she said, adding, “I guess I will just have to wait.”

Take a look at her post here:

A month ago, a Canadian woman was detained on December 6 at Goa’s Dabolim International Airport. She was to fly to Kochi, carrying a Garmin GPS device. After placing it in the scanning tray, security approached her, questioned her, and armed guards then escorted her from the line. Missing her flight, Lewis was held for four hours and interrogated about the device. Despite receiving a fine of just $11, she paid over $2,000 in legal fees and bail.

Recently, a Scottish hiker was detained at Delhi Airport for carrying a Garmin inReach GPS device. The hiker, who had been using the device to track their trekking routes in the Indian Himalayas, was stopped by airport security and questioned about the device.

The Garmin inReach GPS device is a popular tool used by hikers and outdoor enthusiasts to track their location, send messages, and call for help in case of emergencies. However, in this case, the security officials at Delhi Airport were concerned about the device and its capabilities.

After thorough questioning and inspection of the device, the hiker was eventually released and allowed to continue on their journey. The incident served as a reminder of the importance of being aware of local regulations and restrictions when traveling with electronic devices, especially in countries with strict security measures.

While the hiker was ultimately able to continue their adventure, the incident highlights the challenges that travelers may face when carrying certain types of technology in foreign countries. It serves as a cautionary tale for hikers and adventurers to be mindful of local laws and regulations when traveling with electronic devices, even something as seemingly innocuous as a GPS tracker.

  • 4 injured, 2 detained in shooting inside Phoenix Sky Harbor on Christmas

4 injured, 2 detained in shooting inside Phoenix Sky Harbor on Christmas

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Four people were injured in a shooting and possible stabbing incident that stemmed from a fight inside Terminal 4 of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport on Christmas night.

Phoenix police and fire officials responded to reports of gunfire at a restaurant within Terminal 4 outside of the security checkpoint around 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday. Officers quickly arrived at the scene and found three people who had been shot.

According to police, it began as a fight between three adults and two teenagers who knew each other. Authorities say one of the adults then pulled out a gun and fired multiple rounds, hitting a woman and a teen who were involved in the altercation.

The injured teen was armed with a knife and reportedly cut the armed man.

Police say the woman was rushed to a hospital and stabilized, but remains in critical condition. The injured teen is also hospitalized along with another man involved in the fight, who suffered minor injuries.

Additional officers responded and detained the armed man and a teenage girl in the parking garage. The man was hospitalized with at least one cut or stab wound and is also in stable condition.

Everyone involved in the incident was located and identified. Police say no one has been arrested in connection with the altercation and that a charging decision will be made once the investigation is complete.

The Terminal 4 security checkpoint and the PHX Sky Train were temporarily closed during the investigation and have since reopened. Airport operations returned to normal on Thursday morning.

Cole Elliott Nenon, 21, reportedly came to the airport two hours after a shooting occurred and aggressively approached a Phoenix police officer.

Arizona’s Family was on the scene when, just two hours later, an armed man arrived at the airport after a relative told him about the shooting. Court documents identify the man as 21-year-old Cole Elliott Nenon.

“This man received a text message that he believed there was an active shooter at Sky Harbor. This was not an active shooter. There never was. And he arrived at the airport with firearms,” Sgt. Reeson said.

According to court documents, Nenon handed his weapons to other people at the airport before approaching one officer. An officer witnessed an airport operations employee holding a small gun and a rifle, repeatedly asking police, “What do I do?” At that point, Nenon walked up to the officer at “a very fast pace” as the officer was standing near the crime scene barrier.

Nenon reportedly held his hands out to the officer and said, “arrest me,” in a loud, aggressive voice. According to documents, the officer asked him to step back when Nenon began raising his voice and repeating, “kill me, kill me.”

Court paperwork says Nenon began “acting irate” and yelling at the officer, who then forced him to the ground. During the scuffle, he reportedly spat at the officer and hit him the face, knocking off his glasses. Video shows him attempting to roll over and get up when he was tackled with the help of a good Samaritan.

Authorities stressed that Nenon was not involved in the original shooting.

“That is unrelated to this [shooting]. He got into an altercation with a police officer. The officer was not injured, but there was an altercation.” Reeson said. “Again, not related to the incident. Nobody was injured in this incident.”

Multiple officers detained Nenon, and he was booked on one count of aggravated assault on a police officer. Three firearms were recovered.
