Negreanus turn detectives in latest Mania podcast episode
Daniel and Amanda Negreanu dropped hints on Twitter/X throughout the week, teasing a ‘HUGE’ episode of the Mania podcast, and when episode 10 of the podcast released yesterday it explored the topic of the OJ Simpson case. Guest Alex Tome appeared on the podcast with an alternative view on the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.
During the episode, Tome claims to have evidence that an unidentified (but still alive) person may have some culpability for the murders, which are at the heart of one of the most famous crime stories in US history.
The OJ Simpson episode continued a theme of eclectic topics and unfiltered discussion for the Mania podcast, which the Negreanus launched in November. With a focus that often shifts away from the poker world, other recent topics for the pod have included the Menendez brothers murder case.
Shocking new evidence?
During his appearance on the episode, Tome contended that some of the evidence found at the crime scenes involved with the murders suggests that OJ Simpson’s blood might have been planted in an effort to frame OJ.
Tome points to the fact that EDTA, a blood preservative, was found in some of OJ’s blood samples collected at the scenes.
“It’s a preservative,” Tome said. “When you get your blood taken, they drop a preservative in that test tube so that it stops from coagulating the blood and getting it to clot and stick together. That preservative does not occur naturally in the blood. You will not find it in amounts that you can detect in your blood at any given moment.”
At the beginning of the episode, Negreanu admits that OJ’s guilt is something that he and most people accept as fact.
“I’m 50; my whole life, OJ did it,” Negreanu says. “Period.”
He’s willing to keep an open mind about anything, however.
“So you’re saying that this doesn’t happen naturally with blood,” Negreanu says in response to Tome. “So somebody else tampered with that piece of evidence.”
A deep dive
The nearly two-hour episode goes in-depth into the possibility that OJ might have been innocent of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole and Goldman. While OJ Simpson was found not guilty in the criminal trial that ensued, the court of public opinion wasn’t quite as kind when it came to OJ’s actual innocence.
The Mania Podcast Episode 10 takes a deep dive into the theory that OJ really was innocent. Tome takes center stage throughout, with Daniel and Amanda Negreanu listening intently.
Tome (a childhood friend of Amanda’s) became keenly interested in the case in his adult years and says he listened to every interview OJ ever granted, trying to find the truth about what happened.
The episode goes into everything from possible suspects, motives, connections, and conspiracy theories surrounding the case.
