Boulder will experience snow and freezing temperatures for the next few days. Whether you’re staying in town or leaving for the weekend, here are some tips to be prepared.
1. Prepare your home for cold temperatures
If you live off campus, take these steps to prevent damage and frozen pipes:
- Disconnect hoses from outside spigots. It could be your responsibility to remove hoses after each use in freezing weather to avoid pipe damage. Any damage could be your financial responsibility.
- Keep your space warm. Use thick curtains or weather insulator film to prevent heat transfer through windows and doors, and make sure furniture, rugs and clothing are not blocking air ducts and heat vents.
- Set your thermostat to at least 62 degrees. Keep the heat on, especially if you’re away for the weekend.
If pipes freeze and leak, shut off the main water supply immediately.
2. Tend to snowfall
After heavy snow, remove buildup from trees and bushes to prevent damage.

Myles Garrett would rather ‘mess up’ Ravens’ division title hopes than earn sack crown
The Ravens would clinch the division title with a win. A loss would give the Steelers a shot to retake the AFC North with a win in the later game.
With two sacks Saturday, the 29-year-old Garrett would tie his career-high with 16 (2021 and 2022).
Garrett has notched five and a half sacks against Jackson in his career. He said those are the hardest out of his 102.5 career sacks.
“Absolutely. It’s not even close,” Garrett said. There are definitely some other special cats at the quarterback position who are shifty. I mean, Pat (Patrick Mahomes) himself, he has great contact balance, but, I mean, Lamar has that. But he also has speed, he has quickness, is shifty, so he has that tremendous running ability, and he can also throw the ball pretty much anyone on the field right now.”
Garrett sees Jackson’s improvement as a pocket passer as a game-changer for the quarterback, making him much more dangerous for defenses. The pass rusher was asked if it was possible to take Jackson completely out of the game.
“Completely? Hell, no. The man’s amazing,” Garrett said. “A couple years back, you would say, ‘Try to keep him in the pocket.’ I think even beginning of the season we were like, ‘Try to keep him in pocket, make him throw as much as possible,’ and now you’re like, ‘S—, we don’t know what to do.’ He’s been steadily growing year after year. He lost that baby weight. Now he’s back to being lean and fast as hell. So now, whether he breaks the pocket or he stays in the pocket, you’re going to have a rough day because he can do everything.”
The Browns defeated Baltimore earlier this season in a 29-24 shootout. Jackson threw for 289 yards with two touchdowns and rushed eight times for 46 yards. Cleveland sacked the QB three times (none by Garrett). Jameis Winston threw for three touchdowns in the win. Bailey Zappe is set to start Week 18 for the Browns.

Browns’ Myles Garrett prefers to ‘mess up’ Ravens’ division title hopes over winning NFL sack crown

(Photo by Jason Miller/Getty Images) The perfect scenario for how Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett sees Week 18 unfolding is simple: A Browns win over the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday afternoon followed by a Pittsburgh Steelers victory versus the Cincinnati Bengals that night.
Even though Garrett has a chance to win the NFL’s sack title, he’s ranking spoiling the Ravens’ AFC North division title hopes over an individual accomplishment.
“I mean, I’d rather upset them and mess up their playoff hopes,” Garrett said on Thursday. “And if the sack title comes along with that, great. Definitely going to do what I can to be disruptive and take [Lamar Jackson] out of the game as much as possible. If that comes along with it, outstanding. But at the end of the day, I want to win.”
Garrett enters Week 18 tied with Trey Hendrickson of the Bengals with 14 sacks on the season. He’s the only player in NFL history to record at least 14 sacks in four consecutive seasons and has 102.5 in his seven-season career.

“I feel like I faced much more difficult odds this year, and offenses have done quite a lot to try to take me up the game and made it blatantly obvious,” Garrett said. “But I feel like the guys around me have really helped me thrive as much as I have at this point. Just got to continue to add on to what I’ve done with this last game. But I couldn’t have done it without all the guys with me, the other 10.”
Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II has taken over as the betting favorite for the award with Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt — the 2021 winner — right behind him.
When asked why Garrett believes he’s the best defensive player in the NFL right now he had a simple response.
“Why? Go check the tape. That’s why.”

That means the winner will get a bye in the opening round of the playoffs while the loser will be forced to hit the road for the wild-card round.
What’s the difference between getting a one-seed and a five-seed? Glad you asked. There was no fifth-seed in the playoffs until 1978 and since then, they’ve almost never made it to the Super Bowl.
Basically, if you lose this game, you don’t just lose this game, your chances of getting to the Super Bowl also take a major hit, which is not what you want when you’re a team that’s never won the Super Bowl before (In related news, the Vikings and Lions have never won the Super Bowl before).
I feel like this is going to come down to who plays better out of Jared Goff and Sam Darnold. That might seem obvious, but all you have to do is look at each’s team passing defense to realize why the QB battle will probably decide the game. The Lions are surrendering 250.4 yards per game through the air, which is the second-worst number in the NFL. But Vikings fans, don’t laugh, because your team isn’t much better: The Vikings have given up an average of 243.6 yards per game, which is the fifth-worst in the NFL.
So you have the two of the worst passing defenses, and they’ll be going up against two quarterbacks who both rank in the top-five for passing yards per game this year (Goff ranks second overall with 274.9 yards per game while Darnold ranks fifth overall with 259.6 yards per game).
These two quarterbacks went a combined 7-17-1 in 2020, and somehow, just four years later, they’re going to be duking it out for the top seed in the NFC.
Darnold has never played in a game of this magnitude, so I’m going to take they guy who’s won multiple big games in his career, and that’s Goff.
The Minnesota Vikings may be entering the upcoming division title battle with the Detroit Lions as underdogs, but they are not to be underestimated. If the Ravens lose and Pittsburgh beats Cincinnati, the Steelers will win the division by virtue of a better division record, the second tiebreaker.

The Rams won the division and a playoff berth during a fortuitous holiday weekend. They beat Arizona 13-9 on Saturday to get a leg up, and four other results fell their way Sunday to give them the tiebreaker edge over Seattle (9-7) and render their game at the Seahawks this week meaningless except for seeding purposes.
The Rams are the NFC No. 3 seed and will remain there with a victory or tie against Seattle or a Tampa Bay loss.
This Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions will battle it out for their respective NFL division titles. With the season coming to a close, these teams are looking to secure their spots in the playoffs and make a run for the Super Bowl.The Steelers will face off against the Cleveland Browns in a crucial AFC North matchup, while the Ravens will take on the Cincinnati Bengals. Division Rival Coming for Vikings DC Brian Flores…?
One of the best things to happen, or not happen, last offseason was Brian Flores not receiving a head coaching offer. The Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator has been a significant difference maker for Kevin O’Connell.
Hiring him is complicated given the pending lawsuit against the league. That said, it’s impossible for owners to overlook just how talented of a coach he is. With new perspective since his time with the Miami Dolphins, it’s possible this is the cycle where he gets another shot.
Brian Flores could stay in the Minnesota Vikings division
There is no division in football that is better than the NFC North this season. Minnesota and Detroit both have 13 wins while the Green Bay Packers have 11. That leaves just the Chicago Bears in the doldrums, and they will be seeking new leadership this offseason. Insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport believe Flores may fit the bill.
“But the Bears aren’t locked in on anything yet. They want someone who embodies the city of Chicago at a critical time for the franchise to set itself up for years to come. Other names to watch include: Mike Vrabel, Vikings DC Brian Flores and Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury, among many others.”
The Flores tie to Chicago isn’t new. It would be disappointing to lose such a strong coordinator, and an additional gut punch for the new team to be a division rival.
Chicago drafted quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He has had a shaky season but plays behind an offensive line that has had him take 67 sacks. Williams is to blame for plenty of those results. A new head coach has to shore up both sides of the ball.
Flores needs to make sure that his next destination is mutually beneficial. While there are only 32 head coaching jobs in the NFL, it doesn’t make sense for him to land in an unstable situation. Flores has a good thing going with the Vikings, and will ultimately have additional opportunities present themselves.
The Minnesota Vikings may soon have to face off against a familiar opponent within their own division, as reports have surfaced that former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores is being targeted as a potential defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers.Flores, who was recently fired by the Dolphins despite leading them to a winning record in his final season, is considered one of the top coaching candidates available and could be a valuable addition to the Packers’ coaching staff.
If Flores does indeed join the Packers, it would set up a fascinating matchup between him and the Vikings twice a year as division rivals. With his defensive acumen and proven track record of success, Flores could pose a significant challenge for the Vikings’ offense.
